The Al Pastor burrito here is really average. When the meat is not freshly cut from the spit you can tell. I usually look around the kitchen to see if they actually have the al pastor on rotisserie before ordering it. I guess it was my mistake to order it anyways. read more

When this place first opened up years ago it was much better. I think it has been sliding downward in food quality for some time. Also the Plus must mean all the price increases every time I have been back. The price of the combo plates went up as has the price of anything with Carne Asada, and also the price of the Burritos. Somehow, I just don't see the great value here anymore. I think you can get better tacos elsewhere to be truthful. The only reason I still go here is for convenience. The parking situation here is pretty much non-existent. There are days that you can't even get in there so you best find street parking. They have another location over on National Blvd. in Cheviot Hills where the parking is better. I have found another place for good Mexican food that is of better quality so I am not certain how often I will be returning here. read more

My first time trying this place out. Walked up at 9:57pm on a Wednesday. "Open" sign flashing. Sign on front door saying Monday-Saturday open until 10:30... Taco plus is great if you're craving yummy Mexican food but don't feel like going to a sit down restaurant. I'll usually call in my order ahead of time and pick it up, and I'm pleased to say that they get it right every time (yes, I'm one of those annoying people that can never order a dish exactly as it comes). The Burrito Gigante is just that, it's massive! And so good! I can usually only finish half and eat the leftovers the next day. Everything I've had from here is good, and it's a really great option if you don't feel like making dinner. I have happily been coming here for many years but they seem to have a new policy of putting less chicken/pork/steak in their burritos and dishes to save money. I even had to ask the cook to put extra chicken in the $9 burrito i was buying and he said - only for a $1 extra!! Sadly the last time I will visit. First the parking!?! Don't even attempt it! The flow makes no sense at all. You walk to the end of the counter to order then what? Everyone is supposed to stand blocking the soda machine because that where you pick up too. You can try that and be nut to butt squished. Then the service sucks and it is overpriced for the really really crappy food. Go somewhere else!!! Don't waste time or money! Just make a PB&J for lunch instead!!! I ordered the #2 chicken burrito combo. It came out fast but the burrito was mostly rice and really dry. Not to mention that I almost ate a 1 inch long chicken bone that was in the burrito. I got rice and beans on the side. Rice was dry and had very little flavor. The beans were obviously from a can, but were the best part of the meal. I used to live across the street from this spot and I don't think I ever had anything apart from the carne asada burrito. I just noticed that about my eating habits in general...I'm pretty loyal to one thing everywhere I go for the most part. Interesting isn't it? Oh yah, i'm going to rate this a whomping 5 stars! Because it's close to my work and I have been going to this joint for the past 2 years. I usually try to go healthy by ordering 2 carnita tacos, and they also give a bag of chips on the side. So damn good . The only downside is that they don't serve beer... but i'm going to give them a 5star just because i'm not tempted to drink. Another thought, if one is jonsing for a drink while eating - 7/11 is just right there - i bet this place will let you drink. My roommate and I thought that this place was going to be awesome due to the very high ratings so we came here on our craving for shrimp tacos. This was a time that we shouldn't have followed our gut instincts... It was pretty disappointing. Upon arrival, we find that Taco Plus is kind of a hole in the wall - which should actually be a great thing because hole-in-the-walls are awesome. The parking is mayhem because it's tiny and the lot is shared with 7-11...who has signs that restrict people from parking in their section. Anyway, it was pretty dead when we went in but a handful of customers did come in to pick up their orders to-go. I knew that I definitely wanted shrimp tacos so I had an order of that and a carne asada taco. The taco was wrapped with two flour corn tortillas and the tortillas were very dry. It left a gritty taste in my mouth. The shrimp wasn't fried like the usual baja shrimp tacos but rather plainly cooked. Meh. It was topped with pico de gallo and I wasn't too satisfied after finishing this taco. The carne asada was a little better than the shrimp taco but not by much. I was glad that the carne asada was juicy and flavorful but other than that - same thing with the shrimp taco. Dry and standard. All in all, it was really just meh to OK. I'll just go to Baja Tacos or some place else next time to avoid the parking issues and bland tacos. read more

Aaaannnd I just housed their veggie burrito (minus the peppers and sour cream). So far the burrito category is winning for me. It was like the soft tortilla just melted in with the the rest of the ingredients which included tomatoes, sliced onions, beans, creamy cheese, and rice. I also sampled all of their salsas this time. This place reminds me of my college days when I lived off a diet of tacos, ramen, easy mac and cereal... I've been looking for a taco joint on the Westside close to where I work for awhile now. Luckily, I stumbled across taco plus. Parking is awful, so go park in the neighborhoods. The joint is a small shop, fits about 20 people; however, it's clean which is good enough for me. I ordered the 2 taco plate combo which comes with 2 tacos and 2 sides and a drink for $8: Carne asada tacos- Really good quality carne asada here. The meat is actually of good quality and not just packed with tendons and other questionable pieces of cow meat. Furthermore, the tacos here are larger than the $1 tacos at the taco trucks. However, if you buy it separately, it would cost $2.50 per taco so I recommend getting the combo. Rice and pinto beans- Fresh and tasty. I can't really complain about any of it. Chips- They even give you free chips with your order! Hot and fresh. Just the way I like it. Soda- I love the variety they have here. Horchata, orange bang, juaritos, and all the usual. I'm pleasantly surprised. Salsa bar- I love places that are generous with their salsa bars. I wish the salsas had a little bit of more flavor (they lacked a spicy kick). However, everything is still fresh. Overall, a non pretentious taco shop. Asides from the crappy parking, and expensive individual tacos. Taco plus es muy bueno. read more

This hole in the wall looks gross, the parking lot is microscopic, and there are always homeless people chillen, out front, but it is worth the adventure. I love their steak taco combo with a side of corn drenched in butter. Their chips & salsa are really good too. We came we saw we pass. The place is small so it can be cramped while waiting for food. Customer service was good and we finished our food so they get two stars. We had the chicken burrito and it was very mediocre. The chicken was charbroiled which is usually great, but it lacked flavor. As did the other ingredients, I don't know seem like everything was cooked fresh but no added seasoning. And when the tortillas are not good it's really over for the burrito. So definitely will not return, as there are 1001 spots for Mexican food. read more

I love their tacos y burritos! The carnitas is so juicy and delicious. Also on weekends they have pozole. You can't beat a nice bowl of pozole on a cold day. They have a great salsa bar that is all made fresh. The salsa is fresh and the combination of the salsa with their freshly fried tortilla chips is to die for. When I considered moving away from this neighborhood, losing the proximity to Taco Plus was a serious factor. I'm not joking. It's fresh, the staff is pleasant, and they literally have the best nachos I have ever had. I like bland, gringo-ish mexican food, so I can't attest to the authenticity, but I think it's amazing. It's still on my speed dial, even though I only go every few months now that I'm farther away. Worst enchiladas ever! The corn tortillas were filled with dry, unseasoned, and mushy chicken. Even with the enchilada sauce on top, the enchiladas still tasted very dry. For $8, definitely disappointing, especially since the frozen enchiladas at Trader Joe's are 10 times better and about a third of the price. read more

Thank you to all the reviews that clarified that the rice is cooked with chicken broth. With that said, when my friend and I were trying to figure out a place to grab food I got really excited when he mentioned Taco Plus, a hole in the wall joint. I feel like the typically Californian is on a constant journey to try and conquer all the hole in the wall Mexican places in LA. If you're lucky, you'll find several hidden gems. If you're not, you'll wind up unsatisfied and loss of appetite, as I did from my visit to Taco Plus. As a vegetarian I typically ask if there is lard in the beans and if the rice is cooked in chicken broth. Before I went here I called in and asked these same questions, just to get a disgruntled employee give me attitude about how they don't have lard or msg in any of there food. OKK but what about the rice?! She didn't care she brushed off my question. Which made me uncomfortable and thanks to the friendly reviewers on yelp, I got my answer. Regardless of that we still came in and ordered a vegetarian taco salad ($6ish) and two vegetarian tostadas ($2.34 each) (neither items has rice in them). First she charged us $26 for our order and didn't notice the error till we spoke up that that doesn't add up correctly. Which I'll give you that human error is inevitable and there was a way to correct it. Getting to the food, the taco salad was all lettuce and a blurb of sour cream. Everything else was in small portions. For some reason I thought there would be beans in there dish, but I must have incorrectly read that part. The tostadas were okay, the shell was thin and not crunchy. Overall it tasted soggy. I guess the saving grace is in the salsa's. Without it, the entire meal would have been too bland. Giving this place a two star and not a one because even though I didn't care too much for the food from here, my friend enjoyed it. Maybe its an acquired taste or I came on a bad day. read more

I usually get my Tacos from a Taco truck, but I gave this place a go the other weekend, and was pleasantly surprised. Service is incredibly slow, and you pay about a buck more per taco than the trucks charge, but the meat portions are very generous, and the tacos not as greasy. I had the Oaxacan taco, which has a layer of black beans and the House Specialty taco with chicken, which has grilled peppers, onions, and spices on a huge pile of meat. Wow, had to run an errand and passed by to pick up a taquito plate. This place is a great deal. The taquito is pretty substantial, and the meat is not dry at all. Plenty of gaucamole and cream, enough for the taquitos and the chips that came with it. It comes with two sides, and I chose corn and salad. The corn I think came from a can, but was too salty, but nevertheless, it was a huge serving which I ended up just watering it down. The salad was a big portion too. When you're hungry for some mexican food, this place is great! Fast service too! The parking lot has tiny spaces, so beware. read more
