I came here with a friend from the east coast who hadn't live out here in about 5 years. And all he could say was, "this place aint no Coco Renos". Then I said to myself, "Self, this aint no Brite Spot neither". I had finally come to the realization that the food here sucks. I had always enjoyed going to the Taco Surfs in Seal and Sunset. For years, I was just in denial about this one. No matter how nice everyone is, I just can never finish my food because it doesn't taste good enough to. I don't know if it's the lack of freshness or the greasiness or what, but I have officially chosen to end my relationship with this one. Thanks for I don't know what. read more

I'd give it a 1 star but the waitress was right on time and the cooks got the food out quick. They also were always by to fill up the chips and salsa and you did not have to ask. What was I thinking? I saw all the kids all over the place. That should tell you something.. basically kid food. But, we were starving and thought what could go wrong with beans and rice and some tacos.. and "surf" tacos mean like fish tacos which you cannot always get. We ordered the fish tacos and the chile rellano. Anyway, they use flour tortillas for the fish tacos. They put a ton of sour cream and quacamole and iceberg shredded lettuce and cheddar cheese and a little piece of fish that you could smell not so fresh. The rellano they just ruined. I guess they must make up their own recipes but I know that it cannot be some strange place in Mexico where they are from. It's definitely beyond Americanized.. Pretty good, Taco Surf, pretty good. You're that combination of cheap, kitschy, and gigantic that I look for in a hooker. I mean, restaurant. I mean, hooker, too, but that's neither here nor there. Unless you also offer hookers. Now, I can't really gauge the authenticity of this place based on my limited experience with real Mexican food, but I guess I don't really have to for this review. This place is good. They have tasty things, and you should just go with it. Also, a kickass happy hour with hella cheap beers and dollar tacos. Like, every day. Taco Tuesday & Taco Thursday!!?? Does it get much better? The staff......super friendly. The food.....great for the price. So of course I come here often....Okay I come here at least once per week usually for the taco tues/thurs. My typical order? The Baja Fish Taco which (for the health conscious) is breaded (with an extra side of baja sauce) and a side of Beans and Cheese (extra cheese of course!) Local Tip: Ask for the Extra Extra Hot Red Sauce they have hidden under the counter! It's burn your mouth off yummy! The only reason I don't come here more often is because they do not have a full bar....but then again a lot of the eateries/restaurants on 2nd street don't have a full bar :/ When partaking in tacos and/or taco Tuesdays I prefer to enjoy a nice margarita (or 2) but when ordering the margarita here please be aware that you are getting Soju instead of actual tequila. My daughter (30 years) and I had an early Dinner here today after enjoying the Bay and was most pleasantly surprised by the attentive and positive employees! Atmosphere was beachy and adorable! I WANTED to like it, but the service was slow, and the food was just okay. I ordered wrong - that was my fault, I ordered fish tacos that were fried, and that was yuck. I like my fish healthy! Came in for taco Tuesday, as our regular spot had an hour long wait. Seated right away. Nice little location with both inside and outside seating. A little clustered in my opinion, but not awful. The taco Tuesday specials aren't anything special, and they don't have liquor. They only serve beer and "winearitas" We started off with cheese fries, and beef nachos from their taco Tuesday menu. Both pretty awful. Just plain chips and fries with canned cheese on top. We then had tacos which were also mediocre to say the least. Lastly the "winearitas" were actually pretty good. Wasn't sure what to expect since they were made with wine but they were actually not too bad. The bill came out to 64 dollars for a party of three. I can easily say it was not worth it, and doubt I would come back for taco Tuesday. read more

I will tell you, the way Taco Shore has adjusted to the way our world must now look and work is spot in. We dined on the outdoor added on eating area, which is now a part of second street itself. I've heard pretty good things about this place from several Long Beach natives, so I decided to check it out. The interior of this place is pretty awesome. It's very beachy and reminiscent of Rubio's or Wahoo's, but a little bit more upscale. We got seated on the patio, which was enclosed and heated, as well as decorated with some lights! I liked the casual, but cozy atmosphere. The fiesta fries are pretty freaking amazing...just imagine a generous portion of fries, loaded with lots of cheese, sour cream, jalapenos, and salsa! Mmm, can you possibly go wrong with that?! Unfortunately, I really regretted my dinner order. I got the fish burrito, which sounded pretty good, but it ended up having way too many black beans for my taste! They didn't add much else to the burrito, other than some pieces of fish and a bit of light salsa, so unfortunately there were no other ingredients to redeem the black bean overload. I highly recommend avoiding this dish at all costs, unless you like beans! If I ever come back here, I'll probably just eat chips and salsa, plus the fiesta fries. I came in the other day to get some soup. As I walk in, the hostess and another girl are just talking and when I walk up to the counter they look really annoyed that I am there. I asked about the soup & what was in it, and the dark haired girl mumbled what it had, and I asked her to repeat herself and she repeated with an attitude. I work in a restaurant, and this was not the way to interact with a customer. There was no smile, no "hello what can I get for you" no type of friendliness at all. I've eaten at Taco Surf for over twenty years and ever since my family and i started ordering Take Out at Taco Shore our orders have been consistently wrong. I order a regular quesadilla and it is kid sized. I order a side of rice and beans and they put it inside the quesadilla. Perhaps their ordering tab on their website isn't working properly when they receive orders or they've lost quality in their customer service. The quality of the food has not declined, the takeout service makes far to many errors to where our experience from Taco Shore has declined. Either way, it's unfortunate because my family who has been going to Taco Surf for twenty years will go to Supermex now. read more

My friend expressed her positive past experience with "authentic" food here. I could not agree with her. The taquitos were oozing with juice or fat from the meat and the tortillas did not stay crunchy as they should. The flavor was palatable.
