We thought it was happy hour, as the outside sign was misleading, stating it was HH from 2-6 PM. After we are seated, we discover HH ends an hour earlier on Friday and isn't consistent with the rest of the week. It's Friday after 5PM, we stay anyway. What made me happy about Taco Surf: *Complimentary bottomless basket of freshly fried tortilla chips and great salsa *Dos Equis amber on draft Reasons why the rest of the food experience was mediocre: *My friend orders the grilled fish tacos, and she says "I keep eating waiting for the flavor to kick in" as she pours on the hot sauce (and she doesn't even like hot sauce). *My combo plate was missing some key ingredients. -The spanish rice was sparse and dry -The cheese enchilada could of used some cheese inside. Honestly there was more cheese on top of the enchilada than in it. I've eaten here a few times in the past, but have definitely had more memorable meals. Killer happy hour w/ $1.50 tacos and $3 beers. Filling burritos, killer carnitas, great chips and probably my favorite salsa in Long Beach, heavy on tomato and onion. Super casual. Old-school lollipops on your way out. Unlike the other 4 Taco Surfs, this is the only one with a patio, and it overlooks the busy 2nd street sidewalk, so eat there or the bar. This is our go to spot after running at Marina Vista Park. Today was no different. We love the lunch specials and the unlimited mimosas.... and their customer service is top notch and Pepe is the man! Nice restaurant on 2nd Street on a popular stretch of the street. Friendly and helpful staff and a good mix of customers. People bring their dogs while eating. Very good Lime and other Margaritas. It was really mixed well and nicely flavored. Refills on the ice tea. I had the nachos with Asada. It tasted good and was a large plate. We also had the taquitos. They were a bit over cooked and the shell was kind of soft. One thing, I found a hair in my nachos..... hey, sometimes it doesn't always go your way. I'm writing a review solely for the fact that I feel like it deserves a better rating. I found them on Postmates and ordered. Had I looked on Yelp I might have not, BUT I'M SO GLAD I ORDERED. I like their tomato base style tortilla soup a lot, and their clam chowder was surprisingly tasty. There was plenty of meat in their burrito, and it was tender and flavorful. We've only had these 3 things, but based off of that alone, I am definitely going to order more in the future. Side note, I went on their site and learned the owner started off as a hostess at the Taco Surf location that this restaurant is now at, and worked her way up. I ordered some food from this spot because of their drink special. They were selling micheladas to go, and my girlfriend really wanted one (I'm not a huge fan of tomato juice). We ordered the drink, a veggie tostada, a breakfast burrito, and some vegan ceviche. Unfortunately, they were out of the vegan ceviche but they were kind enough to give us a call and let us know. They gave us the option of choosing another item or getting a refund. We decided to get a potato taco rather than ask for a refund. According to my girlfriend, the michelada was awesome. As for the food, it was a bit bland, even with the red salsa on the side. Since it was a to-go order, I can't comment on the restaurant itself. However, I will say that the wait staff was really awesome. I was happy that they contacted us to let us know they ran out of vegan ceviche. There are benefits and setbacks with Yelp and UberEats. On one hand, we are now able to order delicious food to enjoy in our own homes, but we miss out on the ambiance of the restaurant. With busy lives and multiple responsibilities, UberEats ends up being a big player in the convenience world and we decided to order from Taco Surf in Long Beach (there are also other locations in Seal Beach and Los Alamitos). I ordered the al Pastor wet burrito with beans on the side instead of in the burrito. You also have the option of making it a "Killer Burrito" which adds some more veggies and second protein of your choice. My husband order the three taco combo and the menudo. The burrito was big but don't expect the wet burrito to be covered in sauce. It was a dry sauce that stuck to the burrito. The pork came in large chunks, chewy, and not overly marinated. I finished about 3/4 and threw in the towel. The burrito is good but not the best that I've had in SoCal - it can come down the preference too - I prefer a saucier wet burrito and pork that is moist and you can taste the marinade. However, I have to give points to Taco Surf for being super organized and putting beans on the side along with sour cream and tasty salsa. That I will definitely give points for. I'll give Taco Surf three stars with the option to retry something else on their menu. The stars are mainly due to portion size (they give a good amount of food) and accommodating customer requests. Horchata here is legit. Review done. 5 stars lol. But giggles aside, the complimentary chips and salsa here were really good. The fresh fried kind that go stale in a few hours legit. The salsa was your regular pico de gallo with a nice spicy bite to it. We kinda wanted to just eat that the whole night, maybe whip out some Tupperware a d bring it home. Their cheese sauce was also amazing lol. Perfect for nachos. I had the 3 taco combo, which was really good. They're not your regular small tacos on tortilla. Oh no, these were pancake sized tortillas with plenty of fillings and generous portions of meat. I had a hard time eating them without all the stuff overflowing. I would recommend the Baja fish taco. The low carb taco was fun but it's just a lettuce wrap lol. Service was great and kept those chips and salsa coming! And you can use your receipt for 10% off your next visit. Marginal Mexican food, I was going to give it only 2 stars, but I'm giving an extra star because of the service. I ordered a Baja Fish Burrito and I was super disappointed that the fish was too crusty, crunchy and fried. There was no flavor to the fish. There was waaaay too much white rice in the burrito and I paid extra for the fresh avocado slices on top. However the avocado was not ripe yet, so the avocado was a waste of money because it was HARD and inedible! Since it was Taco Tuesday, my friend ordered a variety of tacos - both friend and soft tacos. The soft tacos were better than the oily fried taco, but not by much. They put a pile of shredded cabbage that looked like they were trying to fill the taco to look bigger, because not much meat (beef, pork and chicken) were inside. Just all around disappointing and we won't be back. There's far better Mexican food out there. This place seems to be going downhill. read more

Different name but same good food and service. I haven't been here since it was reborn as Taco Shore. But other than the minor name change it had basically the same feel as before. We had some beer, baja fish tacos and refried beans and they were pretty much as before. Tasty and reasonably priced in a prime locale. My only real complaints...I wish they had real margaritas, not the wine variety. And the music kinda stunk. Lionel Ritchie and REO I can do without. Otherwise all good and good to be back. read more

Fun place for authentic Mexican food! Their breakfast and lunch special menus are served all day. Creative presentation with a BIG vegetarian burrito; their shredded chicken and meat choices for my flat tostada were delicious too. Our waitress Melanie was lovely and all of the servers were very accommodating. The service was excellent. I've also been to the Seal Beach location too. I'd recommend The Scorpion Chowder Soup, 12oz. The Mexican cuisine is average, but the portions of the burrito are HUGE, so that's where you can put your feed bag on and get filled up. They do give complimentary tortilla chips and salsa, in a world where their peers may charge, it's refreshing to experience gratis table snacks. It's a great location on the main strip along Long Beach's busy 2nd Street. Parking can be easy if you're willing to walk a little, even FREE parking (no meters) in the adjacent residential neighborhood side streets too. 2nd Street is a nice place to stroll and shop too. read more

Always great service here! I work next door and I always love to come in on my break for a quick bite to eat. Some of my favorite dishes here are the Alambre, cheese dip, and you of course can't go wrong with the horchata. EVERY staff member here makes me feel right at home. For example, if I had been reviewing this place solely on the fish tostada I had today....I would have to award a generous 1/2 star. Yes HALF a star. The delicate fish was breaded too heavily and then deep fried to a very hard crisp. My friend ordered a chile verde burrito and I was totally envious. I should have ordered that. A margarita might have helped the tostada taste better but that's just me. I really like the relaxed casual vibe of this place and I would totally come back here to hang out after work or at the end of a hot summer day to enjoy something to drink at the bar.
