It is so expensive for its size and quality. The taco shells are somewhere between crunchy and soft so it ends up just chewy and inedible. I paid 4 bucks for a tiny shrimp taco with 3 shrimps in it. Carne Asada fries were just ok overall. The fries were way overcooked to the point of being a similar texture to wonton crisps and were difficult to stab with the fork. It crumbled into pieces for half of the fries. I'd recommend frying the fries for less long. The guac, sour cream, cheese, and asada were all good though! read more

This place just opened up last year at UCSD. Their rolled tacos are ok. I ordered rolled tacos with guacamole once and it was legit just bare rolled tacos with a bit of guac on top and a little powdered cheese ( i believe it was cotijas cheese). Wouldnt recommend it. I also ordered their hard tacos plate another time and it was pretty good. The california burrito is good too but is just fries, carne asada, cheese. Doesn't include salsa but I'm still happy bcus most places' salsa taste terrible. The best part about this restaurant is the red salsa. House salsa is a make it or break it for me when it comes to mexican food. read more

Food is pretty good but the wait times are horrible. If you go between 12 and 1 for lunch, you'll easily wait 30 minutes for your food. They didn't even get my order right the last time I went, but I didn't say anything because I couldn't afford to wait another 30 minutes to get the right order made. The tacos are tasty but the bean and cheese burrito is a lot of refried beans. I wish they used non refried. Also wish they had some more vegetarian options. read more

Came here one night with a friend and neither of us regretted it; food was pretty damn fine. Prices are decent, and their portions are better than what you'd get most places on campus. I had the fish burrito for $5.99 and will definitely come back for round 2. Some issues I had were that the place was really bland (nothing a couple of decorations can't fix), and there was an awkward smell near where I sat. But other than that, the service was awesome (Felix the owner is terrific and he and his other register person were very polite), and I'd highly recommend this place to everyone, especially if you live on/near campus. read more

I see many people complaining about the wait. If you're expecting fast food, this is not the place. Taco Villa has easily become my go-to place to eat on campus. Had stale, what seemed like month she old chips that I paid $2.50 for. Bring it to their attention, they say, no problem we'll get you new chips. All I have to say is that a restaurant should not have cashiers handling any food after handling cash. It is unsanitary and a huge issue with cross contamination withfood. First visit, no line, easy ordering but it took over 20min to get 3 tacos (fish, potato, & carne asada)... fish taco was ok, carne asada had no flavor, potato was undercooked & bland. How can it be so slow and tasteless?!?! I decided to give it another chance and this time ordered the California Burrito & 3 rolled tacos. It took about 40+ mins to get mine but others who ordered after me were getting their food before me (It was a peak lunch time but still). There were at least 4 people in the kitchen but the food was coming out ever so slowly. Everyone in the kitchen should've been busy making something to ease all the people waiting for their food but no, only one seemed to be actually making anything. The burrito was "meh" with bare minimum ingredients (carne asada, fries, & cheese). No lettuce, no tomato, no avocado, no sour cream. It took 40min to roll that!? The rolled taco thing was ok but the meat was dry and had no flavor. Nothing here is of "gourmet quality" nor "authentic" in anyway. I have been to Taco Villa several times since it's opening and it seems on my last two visits that they are dialed in. Food is very fresh, authentic, and the staff is friendly. I see in previous reviews that people are grumbling about waiting for food on Tuesdays. I've been wanting to eat here for several months because it became very popular with the University community soon after opening in 2016. Recently, my wife and I ate here with our family. Our party ordered veggie mulitas, cheese and chicken enchiladas, and carne asada tacos. We were there a few days before classes were in session so the wait was not bad. The quality of meat, veggies and corn tortillas was definitely better than the typical Mexican restaurant. The taste was great! We look forward to returning. read more

I tried out Taco Villa today for lunch and the food was bland. I ordered 5 rolled tacos. The restaurant seems to be stingy with what they provide compared to an average San Diego taco shop. I was really surprised when I got my rolled tacos and there was no melted cheese on top, just a dusting of the dried cheese and nothing else. I almost laughed when I saw the small clear cup they gave me for my $2.50 drink. They keep the lids behind the counter and there were no straws by the soda fountain. I waited for 35 minutes for my order. The food was edible, but did not taste good. I would not return again. This is disappointing because I have been looking forward to the opening of this restaurant since they started construction earlier this year. read more

I have a dairy allergy. Every time I go to Taco Villa at UCSD I clearly state NO cheese and NO cheese anything. It's a 15 minute walk to and from Taco Villa. Today 04/17/2018 I ordered the "two taco plate". And walked 15 minutes back to my building to eat my lunch. My beans were loaded with cheese. My tacos had specs of cheese on top. So I tried to eat around it and found that there was a significant amount of cheese under the beans, cheese at in the bottom of the tacos and the tacos were sitting in white cheese. Apparently Taco Villa does not care about what they are doing, nor do they care about customers who clearly state no cheese. A simple request for no cheese should be fulfilled by Taco Villa staff. Maybe they think it's funny I spent $12 for food I cannot eat. I'll be asking for a refund. And I will be following up with UCSD to see if there basic standards regarding serving food for persons with allergies and simple requests to omit cheese on a taco plate. Thanks allot. read more
