Haven't been to Tacoma boy on sixth Avenue before and just always going because of the sales, I decided to try their sister store out since it's close to where I just moved. Love the fact that it's open 24 hours but their prices are absolutely insane unless it's on sale. They're at least 40% more than Safeway & Whole Foods and of course 60 to 70% more than Costco for the exact same item! So sadly, unless they have something on sale that I want I won't be back. read more

Drove by for weeks looking at the buy one get two free pottery sign. Finally the wife convinced me to stop. The conversation went, "How much are these pots. " " They are 90 dollars each, but if you buy one it's get two free." " Yeah I just don't think we have the room for three." "Oh! Well if you just want one pot, it's 30 dollars... If you want the buy one get two it's 90..." "So you're not actually getting two free, three pots at 30 dollars is 90... You're charging the same price..." "No it's buy one get two free." " It is t tho, if I say I am buying an individual pot and I buy 3...it's 30 each.... That's 90 dollars...But if I say to you I want the buy one get two deal... That same pot now becomes 90 dollars.." Very disappointed with my groceries this last trip to H & L Produce (that's their name, it is part of Tacoma Boys). I bought some mahi mahi, and the fish was not wrapped up properly. I brought my own shopping bag, which the fish leaked all over my other groceries. DISGUSTING I threw away the vegetables - didn't even want to wash. I'm not going to eat a salad of lettuce & broccoli DRESSED WITH MAHI MAHI JUICE. WHAT THE HECK. GET BETTER BUTCHERS or people behind the counter that knows how to wrap meat & seafood. I wasted $44. I'm not sure if I'll even go back. What a big disappointment. Oh, yes I forgot to mention, the skin was still on the fish, so as I tried to remove the skin when I got home...the meat ALL FELL APART. So, now it'll be extra protein for my chickens. This is something the butcher normally does, before selling it to the customer. Idk what kind of people they have behind the counter. read more

Komo boys have been around for as long as I have lived in Tacoma and then left and then came back. Very nice place to shop for real.

My mom had been mentioning this place to me for a while and I finally decided to swing by before a lil mom's day get-together. One thing I like about Tacoma Boys stores is the large outdoor plants & pots "welcome mat"; you just see so many wonderful foliage of many colors & sizes as you approach the entrance plus the just-as-cool vessels to nurture said foliage. Wandering past that, I always enjoy finding new varieties of products, especially of the healthier, newer innovative and natural variety. European oat milk powerhouses Minor Figures & Oatly are here. True Made Foods, one of my fav new condiments, is here. Super decent selection of organic and sustainable products; mixed in are the obligatory novelty junk foods, lol. The store has neat hand-made signs with delightful penmanship. I'd come here often if I lived in the area. Coming from Seattle and knowing my travels, it's like a melting pot of a Co-op and QFC, it felt like as far as vibe goes. Location is a prime busy corner; I didn't realize how long it's been here. Parking has a few dead-end strips so FYI for those tight turn-around spaces. Thumbs up! read more

I'm absolutely done with this place. H&L's overnight produce guy who rings me up (40s or 50s, tall/lanky, clean-shaved, glasses) asked me to *remove my mask during a pandemic* so he could see my face to see if it matched my ID when I bought liquor tonight. This after having sold me liquor on multiple occasions. This is part of a pattern of inappropriate behavior that started a few months prior when, after asking me to pull my mask down, he then proceeded to ask me invasive questions about MY GENITALS. I literally had to tell him that this was not okay. Let me repeat: I had to tell a grown man that it is not okay to ask a woman about what's between her legs. After I told him I would not be removing my mask during a pandemic, he simply said sorry and sold me the liquor anyway. I have no idea if he does this to all customers, just women customers, or just me in particular. read more

Was reminded here that racism still exists, I know no one will care about my comment. the store and it's employees will continue to follow and profile paying customers. That's the cruel world we live in. I'm putting it here anyway. I walked in and immediately got the "feeling " people of color know what I'm talking about. I grab my basket and just begin shopping ignoring my intuition telling be I'm being profiled and watched, and stalked by this employee, just waiting for me to either run out the store with a cart full of produce, or fit it all in my Fanny pack, (smh) or whatever judgmental prejudices that were here. I felt it from all of the employees here. Watching me, like I was some thief. I ended up confronting the man stalker and asked him " are you following me?" He proceeds to say " oh no mam' I'm im part Mexican I would never" when I said nothing about race I simply asked if he were following me. He continued around corners making eye contact and looking at random items like he himself was shopping . Immediately I wanted to get outta there but I didn't want to leave cause I didn't want them to think I stole if I just walked out without anything. (Crazy thought I know) and I also wanted to prove them wrong and show them look I'm not here to steal anything!! I wanted to scream it out loud so they would just stop judging and let me shop in peace! I hate to say it, it's been said so much but it's 2023 out here why do we still hold these horrible stereotypical judgements against regular people. I'm just a girl trying to eat healthier so I decided to go here to get fresh organic fruits and veggies to start my journey. ended up feeling like less of a human leaving all for some warped minded people. This place has fresh turkeys! Such a life savers for Thanksgiving, not having to thaw a bird saves so much time and refrigerator space! This was my first time here and they have everything you would expect from an up scale grocery store. All the meats at the meat counter look superb and fresh. Drove up there today to pick up a product (Gnarly Garlic) that they said they carried. Was planning on buying other stuff while there. Got there and found the stuff I came for and was pleased up until I looked at the "pull date" on the packaging. It was past the pull date so I asked an employee if they had any that was good. They acted like it was all good and why should the pull date matter. All of the product in the cooler was past the pull date and they did not care. Lakewood's own version of Tacoma Boys! This place is just as awesome as the Tacoma Boys location(Which is in Tacoma)! H&L is quite a bit smaller though but the quality is still there and a wide assortment of merchandise is there! I noticed a few items that I did not see from their other location like I saw several different kinds of chocolate bars, a bomber of a Rouge Hefe and a few other things. Produce is just as awesome and fresh! And it would not be a true Tacoma Boys experience if you do not get samples of their salsas? I found a few new things to sample like their tomatillo salsa and hummus! Parking seems ample since H&L is located in a strip mall. Wow! I love Tacoma Boys! read more

Worst place in the world to ever buy your fish We bought some fish for an event we bought 4 pounds and when we got home opened up the package of fish it smelled horrible and it was ruined we called them we spoke with one of the managers They told us to throw the fish away and come in bring the receipt and they will give us a refund, And that's what we did went back to get a refund. because we spent over $240 on fish and they thought it was only gonna be $30 so they didn't want to refund us because it was too big of an amount but it was nothing because we spent that amount and got nothing but shitty fish so they told us there's nothing they can do and ignored us read more

I shop here at least once a week. A week ago I came to the meat counter as I always do . A young man asked me "hey bud what can I do for you" I said yes please call me "BUD" again. He said he was being nice to me by calling me that?? Then another young man took my order. He handed to me and the guy that called me bud called me "short cake" Then all three of them laughed? I wish I could give this place a better review as they have a great selection of interesting foods and beer. But I have now caught 3 times I've bought expired food that they slapped a new label on. I have had the chicken meatballs that were like a month past the use or freeze by date, meat they threw in the freezer, and now some cheese. Someone needs to call the health department. read more

Oh.My.Goodness. My only regret in going there was that I didn't have more money to spend and that I waited so long to check them out! They have dry aged beef. They have dry aged KOBE beef! This store is a chef's paradise. Many custom made and blended spice/seasoning products, gluten free section, and an amazing cheese/wine selections. Although their produce is really good, they put reduced stickers over the expiration dates of packaged products. I bought some half price horseradish that was already expired (under the sticker) and still was charged full price. Reduced for quick sale is one thing but completely expired is quite another. And today was charged $4.99 for blueberries that were marked as 2/$5. Life's too short to make return trips to straighten out their mistakes. Done shopping there. read more

Do not shop at this store. The employees are rude and don't know how to treat customers. I've been to this store a couple of times and was treated rudely by a staff member named "Bernie" and when I asked to speak to a manager there was supposedly no manager there. So later I called and asked to speak to a manager when the employee who answered the phone asked "is this about the situation that happened earlier" I said no just to see what they would say and she was like sure! But I thought there was no manager? When I talked to the manager she was studdering as if she did not know what she was talking about. While we love the Tacoma Boys location near our place, when we swung by this location on our weekend errands, to pick up some food for the week ahead, we got a fuzzy green bonus prize! Had to come in and edit my previous review. Here are the reasons we like H&L: Location THE BUTCHER SHOP. The delicious bacon and sausage. If the location wasn't like 2 minutes away, our waist lines might be a bit slimmer. Damn them. They carry Smith Brothers' Farms dairy products at a good price. They're great dairy products. Good deals on seasonal produce. Be careful, though. A lot of their produce is pricey. Some of their cashiers and employees are super nice. One time, I was picking out some apples. Their stocker told me he was about to restock, and he brought me out a fresh box to choose from. Another time, I was being paranoid and was afraid the milk I was about to purchase was bad. The cashier told me to come back and they'd give me a new one if it was spoiled. Some of their teenage-aged cashiers are kind of unfriendly, though. Yep. We like it here! read more

Yummy homemade dehydrated veggie chips, good cheese selection, great freezer section with other homemade goodness, although I wish I would look in there more. Nice flower and plants. We liv nearby, and have shopped at H&L for 10 years; it's quaint, and carries a lot of unique items. The prices are much higher than other stores, but I like to support local businesses. HOWEVER...the clerks are SO RUDE, it's unbearable. Every visit, same treatment. Finally I mentioned it to my husband, wondering if it was just me--Nope, he's had the same experiences!! It's gotten worse over the past few years, so it appears to be the new "normal" . It's frustrating to get "sticker shock" at the register AND be treated rudely on the way out. We've decided to boycott the store...might as well shop at Walmart, where I expect to be treated badly but don't get my pockets picked. read more

When I lived in the Tacoma Area, this is the only place I would buy my fresh fruit and veggies, period. Their apple sausage is amazingly good and they have fantastic cuts of meat. They also carry a variety of pastas, including Gluten-Free (albeit in a small variety)! Different sauces then you find in most grocers. The flowers are bountiful and gorgeous, with decent prices for what they're offering you. There's also wine selections at some of their locations, and their staff is very knowledgeable about their stuff. The hard cheese selection is very indulgent if you're looking for a rare flavor for your palate. The staff also encourages "tasting" or "grazing". It's perfectly normal, acceptable and appreciated to have your toddler swipe a handful of grapes while you are perusing through the store. The produce prices are practically a steal as well. It almost makes me sad not to live in the Tacoma area anymore.....almost. read more

Wandered in for some good cuts of Steak to grill on the BBQ for Sunday dinner:) As always, H&L has a great selection of everything from Meat, Produce, spices etc.... I have to focus when I visit any Tacoma Boys location as I can wander to the wine section, then to the spice section, next all the plants and flowers, then over to the other goodies they have:) Prices always vary due the season but generally speaking they are cheaper than the local grocery store. A little higher than some of the smaller family produce shops but the quality is better, so you decide what's better for you. read more
