This was my second time at Fort Greene's Tacombi, the first time during Covid and it was great! I had tacos the first time around and they were yummy, but this time I had the beef burrita ($12) and it was absolutely perfect. Our waiter let me know it was a little spicy, which was super helpful because I am NOT a spice girl (lol), so I asked if they could de-spice and she said not a problem. True to her word, the heat-free burrita was delicious with crunchy onions, soft potatoes, and melt-in-your-mouth beef. My friend had her go-to avocado tostada and carnitas taco ($4 each) that were equally delicious. We topped it off with a margarita apiece ($13). A great mid-week dinner! The staff were amazing and all wore masks. They have a good amount of outdoor seating and we didn't have a wait (a place down the street had an hour and a half wait so this was great!). Extremely disappointing meal, considering the positive reviews. The fish tacos were dry, overcooked and stringy to the point of being unrecognizable as fish. The guacamole may have been good, but the saltiness of the chips was overpowering. The chicken burrito was dry and overcooked and 3/4 of it was left uneaten. When the waitress came over to ask if we wanted to take the left over burrito home, I told her no, that it wasn't very good. There was no response. There is no ambiance to speak of, which would not have bothered me if the food was good. read more

I've been to another Tacombi location before but this was my first time at this one. When I went on a Sunday afternoon there was plenty of seating outdoors, indoors and at the indoor patio. We had chips and guacamole, some tacos, margaritas (ask for it spicy!) and the elotes. Everything was so delicious I was in heaven. I asked for my tacos with no onions because i don't like onions and they did that for me with no problem which i really appreciated. Came here after climbing for 2 hours at a nearby gym. I really was in the mood for tacos and a tasty strong margarita- I got everything I craved here! Ordered the chips and salsa which comes with two options for salsa red and green- green salsa is my favorite- chips are delicious and not stale tasting which happens way too often. I got a spicy margarita which was strong and not too spicy where you cough per sip- second was a recommendation by the server, pineapple margarita with Smokey mezcal- freaking delicious! This lovely restaurant is excellently placed across BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music); an area hopping with excitement and loaded with activities near Barclays Center. The service was pretty good, though I felt like a dumbbell given that, since this was my first time coming here, I didn't realize that their ordering (a list of items next to which you jot down your interest to order that menu item) should've been tallied up! I am not accustomed to this ordering style, so we space-cadetted on it in that we all took a sheet for ourselves rather than just using one. Duh! The food was stellar and pretty cheap too. The catch is that you get small portions, so it kind of has a "tapas" characteristic (i.e., just order more later if you desire more food). The drinks were pretty sweet and the vibe very decent. I did feel that where we sat was not very comfortable; it was spacious, mi d you, and it certainly was warm, which was fantastic. However, the chairs had no back, so I had to put my coat on my lap and even got some food dropped on it. Bummer. So this was my only gripe; replacing this kind of seating would be one of my tips. Came in with my mom for the first time. Customer service did not seem to be their strong suit, as we had to ask several times for the sever to explain what the menu items were served with. I'm not sure if she did not know, but she gave one word responses and walked away a few times which left us confused. I'm assuming they're used to having regular customers, as they did not cater to first time diners. I was quite fond of the decor and ambiance of the restaurant, the staff just seemed really young and not too knowledgeable about the menu items. The food was a little dry... I wish they would update the menus to be a little more descriptive. read more

I visited Tacombi-Ft. Greene for the first time Fall of 2019 and I remember having a good experience. Nothing stood out in particular, but it was good. I was in the neighborhood on Monday afternoon and decided to walk up and grab a beverage. I decided on the Mezcal Mule which is conveniently packaged in a to-go bottle which is extremely convenient for these quarantined/isolated times. The drink also came with a complementary bag of chips which was packaged together in a paper bag for consolidated, convenient carrying. When I was presented with the bag and not simply the bottle I didn't think it was mine; I was so shocked my the packaging. Although a small gesture I really appreciated it. We were seated immediately, on a Tuesday around 8p The menu is printed on a long piece of paper and you write down the quantity of items you'd like. Although we didn't get any juices, our waitress mentioned that they are all squeezed fresh daily. The quesadilla's come open faced and you just fold them over to eat. The tacos were AMAZING. Very fresh, and very yummy. I see some of the other posts mentioned that they were salty, however I didn't experience it. Our waitress recommended we start off with either 1 quesadilla or 2 tacos and if we wanted more, we can order more. I had 2 tacos and it was plenty with some chips and guacamole that we ordered for the table. Rumor has it that the tortillas are made fresh in house daily. If I'm in the area, I'll be back. If you are ever in the downtown/ Fort Greene area this place has decent tacos with ample fillings. We had the chicken and pork taco, shrimp quesadilla, guacamole and chips, and esquites. The Al Pastor (pork taco was really good which was topped With onions, cilantro and pineapple. The pineapple added the perfect sweetness to the taco. We also had the chicken taco and the shrimp quesadilla. That shrimp quesadilla was tasty and flavorful. The guacamole was ok could've had more salt or something else to give it flavor, however you can tell they make their own tortilla chips. They have outdoor heated seating which will be perfect for the cold days to come. The service was fast too. read more

Tacombi fort Greene is very similar to the one in Manhattan. The food is good and the staff is very kind. They have a really cute heated solarium to give you the full Brooklyn vibe . I recommend coming here. Get the vegetarian avocado tostada I think that's what it's called... I love it. read more

I recently moved to the area and was thrilled to see an authentic Mexican restaurant so close by. After picking up an air mattress I decided to stop by to take a look at their offerings. The decor is lovely, reminding me of the many visits Ive taken to México over the years. It was also packed - another very good sign. However I was greeted by a man (the host perhaps) wearing glasses with a rather gruff "Yes?!" I brushed it off and asked to look at a menu. He pointed to slips of paper in a cup. Cute little paper menu where you make your selections - similar to that of a sushi restaurant. As I started to make my selections, the Host barked "You dont have to do that I can take your order here." I explained I needed more time, and that i would let him know when i was ready to order. I want to note that his tone did not bother me at first, as I work as a flight attendant - another high paced customer facing job. On the workers end, urgency and efficiency are important. However his tone/standoffish demeanor continued throughout our interaction and i believe resulted in the mistakes made in my order. I ordered a few items to try from the menu: a Pineapple agua fresca, an avocado tostada, equites, a side of rice and beans and a carne asada burrito. About 10 minutes & $40 later I was handed my food by another worker - he was infinitely warmer than the Host. This gentleman even looked to make sure the agua fresca was in the bag. I was then out the door. I walked around the corner to my new place, and sat down to eat. The food was labeled and well packaged in colorful containers. Unfortunately, everything I ordered was COLD. The $13 carne asada burrito barely contained any filling and was rather tiny for the price I paid. Typically Mexican restaurants give you large portions so this was a shock. My pineapple agua fresca was a watermelon agua fresca. The highlight was the avocado tostada though, so delicious. I really wanted to like this place. Hopefully this was just an off night for Tacombi. Disappointed in the quality of service and the quality of the food overall. read more

I have always thought tacombi was overpriced but I'm fine cause the drinks are strong and they are good with the experience. But my latest visit to a tacombi at this location was horrible. The restaurant was basically empty and they sat a party of 2 at one of the only 6 tops in the restaurant. We asked if they put tables together, and they said they couldn't? Well if you guys don't put tables together, then your front of the hours should do better about sitting tables of 2 on tables of 2! Our party had to wait there when the restaurant was practically empty. So then the food comes and there's absolutely no pacing. The restaurant is empty so I guess they decided they wanted to fire everything at once! They dropped our apps and all the tacos and quesadillas and there was no room on our tables. We had to put our plates, napkins, hot sauces on another table. We are maybe two hot tacos and by the time to got to the rest, they were already cold. Our raw tuna tostada (which, mind you is nearly $10) was sitting out for 15 mins and soggy. The food again is decent. Not spectacular and over priced. But this location is particularly bad. You walk in and you can already tell the staff has an attitude problem. read more

My group of 4 showed up without a reservation and they added us to the waitlist - super easy process where they send a text when your table is ready. We went shopping at Atlantic Terminal while waiting and for wait time estimate was pretty spot on. Really cute set up for outdoor dining with heaters in each section which really kept everyone warm, there are dividers between you and the diners next to you. The server was knowledgeable and friendly, explaining ingredients to dishes for my pickier friends and offering customization options. The Rubio, our server's recommendation was delicious, refreshing watermelon tequila drink. We shared a pitcher for the table and each got multiple drinks from it. The common theme here for me was that every menu item was beautifully balanced between fat and acidity, the flavors complimented each other and with an a la cart menu, you could try a little bit of everything. I've included photos of what I ate: Baja Crispy Fish Taco - truly the best fish taco I've ever had, which is apparently its reputation? Light crispy batter over cod-like fish with refreshing lightly pickled cabbage and Mayo-based poblano sauce with a quick squeeze of lime (should you choose) *chefs kiss* Carnitas Taco - so delicious, I ordered a second one! Tender shredded pork with a tomatillo based salsa, cilantro and onions. I'm not doing it justice either my description... 10/10, definitely recommend. Corn Esquites - sweet corn served in a cup, Mayo, cotija, lime and chili powder. I ordered it and as soon as it came, the rest of my table wanted it! Avocado Tostada - black bean spread on toasted corn tortilla base, salsa, avocado, pickled red onion, cilantro and quest fresco. Another beautifully balanced bite! Long story short, this place is a cozy crowd pleaser who is handling out door dining right at an affordable price! I hate to write a bad review for small businesses at this moment and this review is only for one experience, not the quality of the restaurant in general. I was the person who ordered a pineapple juice but found a fly in it last night. So you guys must remember me, and thanks for changing a new one for me. I ordered Al Pastor and Carnitas last night but after several hours, I got sick with my stomach (I swear that I didn't have anything in between!). I think you guys should seriously check on your pork supply these days and I highly believe that it's the Al Pastor that was problematic because when I ate it, it tasted flavorless and I was wondering how come. The Carnitas tasted fine. I know this restaurant is super popular in the neighborhood and they bring food to the table very quickly. I totally believe this is just a one-time accident and still want to come back. But please, please, please, check the pork! read more

Move over Chipotle. Tacombi is the place to get some good tacos. I absolutely love their avocado tostada. There's no meat but it's so good and I almost always order 3 when I order my tacos. I also just love the seared fish tacos. Absolutely delish. Their corn is good as well as the fish burrito. And to wash it all down a pina lupita soda or agua de sandia (watermelon) juice. There are so many taco places in Brooklyn but this is one of the taco places that stood out for me (I lived in San Diego for 18 years! and I loved crossing the border to Tijuana for some street tacos). I am big on fish tacos and this is one of the places that makes them the way I like it! I think that's my favorite kind of taco ever. I can vouch that this comes so close to the taco shops in San Diego. Although a bit pricier than what I'm used to, it's super worth it. I got my fish tacos on delivery and somehow it remained semi-crispy which I love. Regardless it was flavorful I wouldn't mind if the 'crispy' batter becomes soggy. Drizzle that with lime and it's even more amazing. Hahaha. I also ordered their esquite and that was divine! I have yet to try their burritos. I will come back and finally in person, hopefully! I ate here tonight around 5/5:30. We asked to be seated inside, but there was also open seats for the covered patio (and heated!) If we preferred. We started off with chips and guac. I loved the chips, but the guac wasn't my cup of tea. It was almost all crushed avocado with salt and lime, which on one hand I'm thinking "duh of course that's essentially what guac is" but I felt like something was missing and I now realize it's all the other stuff. It was missing the red onions, cilantro, tomatoes... You know the works! It certainly wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. My boyfriend got all 3 of their vegetarian taco options. He said they were good, he'd eat them again if they were presented, but he wouldn't go out of his way to buy them again...if that makes sense? I got the crispy fish taco and the gringa (pork) quesedilla. I really liked the fish taco, but that quesedilla... THAT QUESEDILLA WAS FANTASTIC! I wish that was the first thing I ordered. The pork was done to perfection and the salsa was delectable! I'd highly recommend. For drinks my bf got the cafe con leche and thought it was pretty good. I got the pineapple and ginger with mint drink. I thoughroughly enjoyed the fresh juice and I heard they're made fresh onsite. Tl;dr: Get the gringa quesedilla and the fresh juices. Try the crispy fish taco. The vegetarian tacos are meh but worth a try if you're someone that likes to experience averageness for yourself. read more

Oh my God. Stephanie is an actual queen. She is the most attentive, most caring, most I-got-your-back server in the world. She makes sure that you are taken care of in all the small ways--she thinks of everything in the way that normally only a very thoughtful parent would do, yet she doesn't ever make you feel like she's hovering.
