Keepin it real out here in UWS I might be biased but i had these tacos (take out) at about 10PM, skipped dinner and ate those so they were really good from what i remembered. A server literally diverted from bringing water (I had requested); when he finally deposited the water, and I was ready to order, he ran off to bring a plate to a table that had just sat down and didn't even have food. The Brisket platter with rice and beans was good, it seems ordering a platter is the way to go here, the portion is way bigger than just the individual pieces.( individual tacos are miniscule) The roasted corn was ok, the shrimp taco was not fresh and the shrimp tasted rancid. I did not eat it other than one bite and spit it out. I also had stomach issues afterwards from just one bite or maybe it was all the food from here. I ordered on-line, the delivery came pretty fast and the food was still hot when it arrived. I'm so glad we finally got to check this place out. It is SO CUTE. The service was amazing and I loved being able to write my order on the menu. The food came out so quickly and everything was so tasty and authentic. The piña and hibiscus tea were SOO GOOD. But most importantly, the fish tacos. This is pretty simple. This was some of the worst service we've ever gotten in recent days, which is saying a lot, especially since there may have been about three tables at the time, and at least double or triple the staff. We I'm not even sure what our server was actually serving since pretty much the only time we saw her is when she had the difficult task of picking up the paper from our table to put the order in. And even that she seemed annoyed to do. We had to get up a few times to ask for things like a straw or silverware or beverages ... The backwaiters were awesome. Friendly. Attentive. The managers were hanging out over at the door with the host. But it was very annoying that our server was literally not doing much except talking with the other servers and not attending to the floor. We were missing things. An item we got was wrong. Food is typical Tacombi, but not up to par with other Tacombi's. Suffice it to say, we will probably not be back to this one even though one of us works literally a block from here. read more

I was born and raised in Mexico and this is my honest opinion about this place: The ambiance actually took me to a taqueria back in my hometown. Loved the metal tables, the mosaic walls and the vibe inside and out at Tacombi. They did a good job making you feel you are in a real taqueria. I went with a group of girl friends all from different countries tho and they all were pretty happy with their food but me, maybe because the friend that took us told us it was probably as good as Tacos n1 but wasn't true at all. We tried a couple of things: what I was excited the most was the esquite corn, which was flavorless. The rice and beans, chips and guacamole were pretty good tho, really tasty!! In the other side, the pastor quesadilla was a fail. Didn't like the flavor of the pork, it tasted like really bad quality pork plus it was served with flour tortilla, they didn't give me the choice to pick. (In Mexico they only use corn tortilla) Finally, I got the taco asada which wasn't bad at all but it just looked like a sad poor taco with something missing. My friends ordered birria tacos which looked good but didn't get to try them. For the record; I liked that they came with the soup. Finally, we ordered a Margarita pitcher which saved the night. We paid 55 dls for it and we each got two drinks (8 total) and I'm pretty sure we could probably have had more if they wouldn't have added that much ice. It was an average margarita but I was happy w the price. The waitress was making sure our table was clean all the time and pouring us water continuously and cleaning dirty plates which we appreciated. The prices were normal compared to other taco places in New York. What a really good restaurant to include in our Empire State Building tour package! There is nothing like having tacos and margaritas after going to the very top of this historic landmark! Everything was good. No complaints. Just a lot of fun, drinks, and a lunch that will make your mouth water for more. I liked the simplicity of the dishes. Nothing too fancy. Average causal Mexican spot on the UWS. They currently have covered outdoor heated seating; mostly tables of 4 but I was able to call and update my reservation to 6 people. All servers wear masks and gloves, barriers were up between tables and there did not appear to be a time limit on the table. We ordered a few pitchers of margaritas ($52 each) however I would not recommend. The pitcher was filled with mostly ice and the drink itself was very weak. Each pitcher was about 5-6 drinks. Cost-wise, this was the cheaper option than paying $13/drink. The tacos were small but filled well. I enjoyed the Baja Crispy fish taco. The meat in the Al Pastor taco was dry with little flavor and the Carne Asada taco was soggy. Food came out very quickly; within 5 minutes of placing our order. If you order multiple of the same taco, they place them all on one plate, leaving our group to have to pass plates around to distribute tacos (covid times; so make sure you have hand sanitizer and trust the people you're eating with). Since Playa Betty's had a wait, we decided to walk a couple blocks north and try Tacombi for the first time! We had about a 10 minute wait on a Saturday afternoon. No wait time if there was no preference for heater. Guacamole was good. Nothing memorable, but satisfied my taste buds! I think the Baja Fish and Carne Asada tacos were my favorite. Savory and packed with flavor! Not greasy and tasty toppings/sauces. My husband's favorite was the Carnitas taco. Not pictured: side of beans & rice was nothing special, kind of bland. I started eating it with the guac. The heaters in our sectioned area were warm enough we could enjoy the outdoor seating without our jacket on. Tacos come out as they finished cooking so we got them nice & hot. They came out pretty fast with the baja fish coming last. Kind of nice to have a mini break before the last tacos came out. We all live in the UWS, the restaurant has the perfect ambiance - fun , lively , colorful and it's good for groups . Loved this place so much! Yelp suggested it after trying to find an affordable place to eat after a trip to the Met. My friend had heard good things about it so we trekked across the park, it's not far from the edge of it. In a part of the upper west side where everything seems to be increasingly more expensive, it's not at all bad and a really great experience as a whole. The restaurant itself has amazing decor and a great aesthetic that you can tell they worked hard to curate. You can either order directly or mark what your table wants on the slips of paper they pass out. We ordered a breakfast taco, sweet potato/black bean taco, a fish taco, and a carnitas taco, and esquites on the side. The esquites were pricey but delish, and the sweet potato taco was slightly skimpy, but everything else was great. Super cute atmosphere and decor. A nice fast/casual place with a large venue. Great for larger parties as they can push tables together for anyone. Was able to get pitchers of margs for the group, guac, and various tacos. I personally had carnitas, fish, and sweet potato. Surprisingly this was my first time eating here. We came for a quick lunch and it was QUICK. We started with guacamole and chips which were good and a decent size. Everyone else had a mix of quesadillas and tacos. I went with the crispy fish burrito. We all enjoyed our food. Mine was very filling. Although my fish was no longer crispy, I got the texture from the cabbage and nice flavor from the beans. The tortilla was very good and was wondering if they made their own. I had an Al Pastor and two birria tacos, which came with salsa and a tasty consumeé, averaging about $4.75 a taco. While this was steep (even considering the Upper West Side prices nearby), I felt like it was worth it. The tacos came out piping hot, incredibly flavorful, and only in a few minutes. Wonderful experience on one of the hottest days of 2023. The portion size was perfect. All the items tasted very fresh. The watermelon and hibiscus aqua's were the best on this hot day. The Al Pastor & Beef Birria Tacos were so good topped off with some rice and beans to compliment the lunch. I really felt comfortable here and the service was good. I was feeling like Mexican food and I really honestly can't believe I hadn't eaten here before I moved back here. With 3rd party delivery, I generally do not order tacos because they are not as good or hot as when you have them fresh. So, at first I really wanted a quesadilla but the al pastor quesadilla isn't served with pineapple (only the platters or the tacos itself). I decided to get two al pastor tacos and a small guac and chips. I also added on pico de gallo and the red chile salsa. My food arrived and as I expected, the tacos were not hot. However, they were DELICIOUS. I added a squeeze of lime, and dollops of the red salsa and a green salsa which came with it. The meat was so tender and seasoned really well. The tortilla didn't fall apart, which was a good thing. It was served with cilantro and diced onions and a small slice of pineapple. My only qualm is that I wish they gave more pineapple and onions on it. The tacos were a little messy but I honestly didn't care. The chips were ok, not my favorite variety (stone ground corn, so crunchy but not what I typically enjoy). The guac was very good, creamy but could use a little heat. Probably one of the best pico de gallo, they put diced jalapeno in it which to me is important in pico de gallo. I would absolutely order from here again. So happy that they have a location on LI, even if its a little far from me. read more

Love the avocado tostadas! I was in town for 4 days and ate here twice because I couldn't leave without enjoying the food one more time. The Taco Gobernador is very tasty and I loved the carne asada tacos too. I don't recommend the carnitas since my taco was dry. A complaint I have is that I ordered a Diet Coke knowing it would be $3.98, but I didn't know it would be one of those little bottles. Not a full size. I was day a few days ago and the tacos were good. The tortilla was a bit cold and it crumbles easily but still delicious. The guacamole was not good at all. Is basically just smashed avocado, no flavor at all. I ordered the fish taco, baja chicken and steak. The steak was the best of the 3 in my opinion. My date liked the steak burrito. I had a mezcal margarita that wasn't great, I was expecting more flavor. My date has tried the Aguas Frescas before and told me they were really sweet. Tacombi is an amazing option when you are looking for some classic tacos. The Carnitas was super juicy and the pork was cooked perfectly. I did not taste or see any fat chunks in the meat which I was really happy about. The Carne Asada had a different shape than I usually see when I get this type of taco. It's usually cut up into small chunks, but this one was long, thin and flat. It still tasted great, but I think I preferred the Carnitas taco over this one. I'm not sure if it is an uncommon taco or maybe I just never paid attention to it on previous menus, but the Black Bean & Sweet Potato Taco by far exceeded my expectations. I am a huge fan of sweet potato, and I would not have thought to put it in a taco. Great vegetarian option! The Mexican street corn, or Corn Esquites, was delicious. It was a bit watery at the bottom of the cup, but the warm corn itself with the sauce and cotija cheese was a great way to start off the taco night. Would definitely recommend this restaurant! Coming from California and lived briefly in Mexico, my review of the food is gonna be biased. Overall good tacos for what you can find in New York. What I did not like was how they cheap customers off of their money. If you look at the photo, there percentage is def incorrect. If you opt for 18%, you'd pay for nearly 27%. And so on. I've gotten takeout many times because their elotes is addicting, their breakfast taco (not available right now, or is it off the menu?! NOOOOO) is my favorite thing to crave. Their outdoor space right now is so festive and their tables are nicely spaced inside. Their quac is very mild and creamy, which I love. Great chips. They just have a very hit-or-miss on the rest. I had an amazing baja fish taco. And a very sad and dry al pastor one. My friend had a fairly bland beef burrito that he wouldn't order again. But I love this place, and the drinks. So I'll be back.
