Even though the site says that they do not take reservations, grateful, they do. Granted I physically went in and reserved a table. I am sure calling in will be fine. The restaurant is called Al Pastor so it has to be the star of the show right? The pastor was marinated and you can taste the char which I wholeheartedly enjoy. The marinate wasn't super super flavorful but I did taste the adobo chilis from marination. I wouldn't claim this to be the best Al Pastor ever but it was definitely good to watch and satisfied my cravings. I ordered Asada tacos as well. I didn't enjoy it as much because it was tougher and chewier than I'd like. Both tacos came with its own container of red and green sauce. Every restaurant is different but for here, red was spicier than the green. For sides, I ordered a cheese quesadilla, Horchata Fresca, and chips with guacamole. The quesadilla was basic, nothing special about it. It had a bit more oil on it than I would expect/like. The horchata was very light and subtle. It was more on the refreshing side. Though it was labeled under a Fresca, I was thinking it would be a bit creamier/more flavorful. It was light in sweetness (could also be from the ice melting from a hot day) and was very Fresca like. I enjoyed it because it was perfect for the weather but if I was looking for a more flavorful horchata, I would wait until I go somewhere else. Finally the chips and guacamole was good. I could tell the chips were made in restaurant because of the oil it had. The guacamole tasted great however it didn't have a freshness to it. I was invited to this restaurant for a lunch I ordered a taco chicken salad ( a classic ) unfortunately the tortilla shell was to oily, The guacamole taste like frozen , no like fresh home made it ( it's what I expected in a Mexican restaurant) The pico de gallo was a chunk of tomato and onion with a little cilantro with out any flavor. The size of the salad is good and the price very reasonable. The service take time and in the end we need to go to the counter to asked for to go boxes and pay the bill. After the waitress served our food we didn't see her again and only 4 or 5 table was occupied in the entire restaurant. The second star is for the basic but edible vegetarian burrito--it has the basics, but is lacking something like cooked veggies to add flavor. We didn't like either of their salsas that came with it, so that didn't help either. This morning we tried the heuvos rancheros -BLAND- and the chilaquiles - INEDIBLE. I was working half a mile away and had time for lunch so I put in an order for pick up. I saw it in the morning when I was driving to work location and felt our paths would cross today. Located in a small shopping center with a decent sized parking lot. It looks very outdated from the outside and the interior had very authentic decor. It's literally named tacos al pastor which is usually the meat I order but I felt a burrito was the best option for me today. Not to mention each taco is about 4 bones while the burrito was under 12 dollars. It was a no brainer for me. The a pastor lived up to its name and highlights but they have onions cooked in which isn't my favorite but I wont complain. One thing that I'd say could use improvement is the rice and beans could use a touch of salt. Which I'm sure would be easy if you dine in. The salsa Verde honestly fixed that problem, very flavorful.. We were in the area to redeem a free birthday drink from 7 Leaves and my wife was craving some Mexican food. This specific place caught my eye on Yelp when I was searching and we went to give it a try. This place seems to be a chain since inside it was actually referred as Tacos Al Pastor #3. Pro Tip* - If you are planning to do take-out, go straight to the register. If you are eating in, just take a seat at any open table. Lots of people (including us) were confused and thought you order and then sit down. [[ Location ]] It's in a fairly large plaza with salons/massage places and lots of parking. It's not an upscale plaza in any case and even the Tacos Al Pastor restaurant had metal bars/slates on the windows and doors. We didn't feel unsafe but I'm not sure if it's the best area as well. [[ Service ]] Service overall was okay. I thought the staff were nice and friendly so no issues there. Minus 1-star for the following reasons: 1.) Got my order wrong - (a) I wanted the 2 Flautas and Enchilada Combo but they gave me only 1 Flauta. (b) I ordered a Large Horchata but the waiter forgot to bring it out but was still included in the bill at the end. I had to make them take it off. 2.) I don't really think they come and check on you very often. When we ran out of complimentary chips and salsa, I had to flag my waiter down to get a refill even though the waiters passed by the table many times. We also never got our water refilled once. 3.) Be prepared to wait. Even though it wasn't super busy, it took a good 15-20 minutes to get our food. [[ Food ]] Despite the not so stellar service, as long as the food is good, I am usually okay. However, even though the store has a "family vibe" to it, the food was just mediocre. However, I guess the price and portions were fair. We ordered: 1.) Flauta and Enchilada Combo Plate I enjoyed the rice and beans and the enchilada but the beef flauta was extremely dry inside. You definitely needed to use all the sauce on the plate. 2.) I wanted to talk about the amazing service I received on Sunday. There were two amazing servers that went above and beyond for me and my family. Their names are Gabriela and Daniela. I know it was very chaotic and my family likes can be a lot, but they treated us so well. Anything we asked for they brought it back very quickly which let us eat our food warm and properly, like we like it. I did not have to ask twice for anything. We packed up the toddler, hopped in the car, and made the drive. To my surprise, I didn't realize this tiny strip of business even existed and it was so close to home!!! Menus are conveniently placed underneath a layer of glass that tops each table and we waited for a server. Lunch consisted of: -Complimentary Chips & Salsa -4 Regular Tacos [2 Carne Asada, 1 Chile Verde, 1 Al Pastor] -Carnitas Plate served with rice, beans, & salad Yays: Cost is a pricier than other taquerias but the portions are very hearty. Meats were cooked very well leaving things extremely moist and juicy. While a few employees weren't as friendly, one in particular really stood out and made our visit memorable. Special thanks to the older female employee who checked up on us and made sure we were doing well. Nays: Employees legit seemed to overlook our table. It was hard trying to get service even after multiple attempts to make eye contact. Although the soda was very carbonated, the drink tasted watered down and needed an adjustment regarding the syrups. Food was grand in size, cooked well, but was extremely bland. Salsa is absolutely needed!! Lastly, the business was unfortunately out of lengua. 4 stars overall. I assume there are refills included, but I didn't get one, so I'm not sure. Great tortilla chips and good salsa, but the salsa portion is small. You can ask for more. The breakfast burrito with chorizo came out piping hot, so you know it was fresh. It's overall good, but the chunks of potatoes were a bit too large and overpowered each bite. The machaca was good. Beef and scrambled eggs. The refried beans were a bit stale; maybe I received a bad batch. Spanish rice was just ok. Friendly staff; lots of parking in the lot. They even made veggie fajitas which were not on the menu, especially to cater to our vegetarian needs. Here is what we catered: Rice/beans: reasonable price and half trays served 15-18 people. Taste was amazing and they subbed corn oil for lard in the beans so it was vegetarian Cheese enchiladas: served around 15 people, taste was amazing - loved the red sauce on top! Veggie fajitas: like I said before these were off menu and tasted absolutely amazing! The veggies included carrots, zucchini, onions, peppers, and potatoes. They came with tortillas (corn or flour, we got all corn and it was great!), salsas, guacamole, cheese, sour cream, pico de gallo, salad Chips/salsa: standard app, chips were crunchy and not oily so they were addicting!! The amount of toppings for the fajitas was very generous so we used some salsa/guacamole for these chips as well All the catered food was amazing! Even if you are not vegetarian I recommend trying all these items! The ordering and pick up process was really easy as well. All ordering was done over the phone and Gabriella, their main point of contact was really patient at explaining the different options as well as customizing items to make it vegetarian friendly! Now that we are left with limited choices of outdoor dining and mostly relying on takeout and delivery -- I finally land on a really good Mexican restaurant close to home. Scored. We ordered one Taco Plate (two tacos with your choice of meat, rice, refried beans, and a side of salad) and one large Chicken Soup (which comes with a side of rice and corn or flour tortillas) for about $32. #SupportLocalSmallBusinesses I can't even describe how delicious the tacos were -- topped with freshly made pico de gallo and in crispy tortillas fresh off the grill. I had a couple samples of the Chicken Soup and it was much better than the versions I have tried at other Mexican restaurants (not too salty or oily).
