Sope with carnitas as meat choice
    Fred B.

I made it a point today to seek out this small, hole-in-the-wall taqueria. It's located in a small, very worn strip center, fronted by an Exxon convenience store. The interior is a narrow, rectangular shape with 6 or so booths available for dining in, and though worn and dated, the area is bright and clean. You order at the register, which I did, and my order was quickly taken, efficiently & with a smile. My order consistently of Chorizo Tacos (4) , a single Sope with carnitas as the meat of choice, and an order of Cheese and Pork Pupusas, which comes with a side of spicy slaw! This was plenty of food, at least half of which would travel home with me. And included with my order was a nice quantity of chicarrones de harina (a pinwheel shaped, puffed wheat, very popular, Mexican street snack) along with a small container of the house salsa. These wheat puffs are easy to make, not especially labor intensive, so I assume they, liked everything else, were made in house. I had this many times from street vendors in several different open air markets in Mexico City. These from this restaurant are nice and crunchy, but a bit under seasoned - missing was a healthy dash of saltiness! But dipping them in the provided salsa made them a moot point - this salsa is smoking. and you may, as well! The Sope was layered with a plentiful amount of fork tender, shredded carnitas, and though the traditional outside crust was absent, this was a righteous item. The Chorizo Tacos were equally good with plenty of fresh tasting , ground sausage topped with chopped onion and cilantro, with fresh sliced radish and lime wedges providing additional flavor and texture. Only one tortilla per taco is used here, so there will be more than a little spillage - napkin up for sure! The Cheese and Pork Pupusas were hearty & well grilled, but a bit bland on their own - that's where the spicy slaw and salsa come to the rescue. Excellent food, great service, and nice value - hard to see a reason not to seek this local spot out. Ambiance - 2 Food - 4.5 Service - 4.5 Value - 4.5

Next addition in my hidden gem, don't judge a book by it's cover series, as of late... Tacos Casa Miguel. A place that you'd be making a mistake to pass up. From the outside, it admittedly looks a little rough, and it actually does not face the main road, you have to drive around the side of a small strip mall to access it. That said, do it. And enjoy their awesome food, warm friendly service, and in my opinion the best salsa around! Upon walking in I was immediately greeted, sat at a table, and asked for my drink order. I went with one of their fresh juices, pineapple juice. Truly fresh, there was pineapple pulp and tiny pineapple skin fragments in the beverage. Nothing that would prevent drinking it, and it was so refreshing! I was brought an order of "chips" and salsa, these chips are actually chicharrones de harina, a puffed wheat kind of snack. I really enjoyed this unique taste... and let me tell you, the salsa has a wonderful kick that I really loved! I definitely had to get more salsa to enjoy with my meal. I'd go so far as to say, for those who like a little heat, this is your destination for salsa in the Triad! For my meal, i ordered a single pork and cheese pupusa which came with a nice refreshing slaw, and an order of three carnitas sopes. All of which I would order again! The carnitas here particularly are very flavorful, super tender pork. I agree with the other yelpers, whatever form you choose, go for carnitas your first time! Overall, I'm definitely going to be back here again, and I hope those who read this choose to go a little off the beaten bath to support this excellent taqueria in Kernersville!

Out of all the taqueria's in kernersville I find this one to be the most authentic and flavorful. This is my third time here and the food has been consistent. I tried the Papusas, tacos, tortas, and Gordita's. Everything was delicious and made to order. The salsa has a great kick and is paired with chicharrones. The atmosphere is simple, clean, and nothing fancy. You seat yourself, and immediately greeted with a server. One last important tip- Horchata is a must here. Trust me on this one.

Forgot to take pictures of the food but I will just have to do next time because I will be back!

If you want authentic Mexican food this is your place! There isn't a lot of space inside to eat so I don't recommend going with a big party. I just went in placed a take out order and waited outside for it- maybe took 10 mins max during peak lunch time. I ordered a chicken burrito, 2 steak tacos and it came with Chicharrones and salsas. One of the salsas was super spicy so be careful before you go throwing it on everything.

Best authentic Mexican food in Kernersville. Forget these cookie cutter American Mexican food places. This place is unreal. Real food. Clean people. Delicious. None of that orange greasy out of the box Mexican garbage. All homemade.

I finally got a picture of these tacos. Oh man by far my favorite taco place in the area. Fast and friendly the tacos never disappoint. I wish could say more but like the food it's so great you blink the tacos are gone and I'm back again the next week. I love tacos casa Miguel he's supper friendly and always brings my order to the car once's it's up. Just love it !!!

Chicharrones de harina. (Fried wheat chips)
    Jim C.

A great addition to Kernersville's growing taqueria scene. This place is a total dive, feels a little sketchy on the outside and is no frills inside. But the warmth and the charisma of the owner shines through immediately. He was friendly and helpful and very proud of his food. We tried the four taco plate with al pastor, chicharrón, asada and chorizo. Not too many places offer chicharrón tacos so I get them whenever I see them. They are an acquired taste for the uninitiated. It's pork fat, simmered in sauce, so they are very soft but full of flavor. All of the tacos were a hit. But I need to go back to try their Tacos al vapor. Nobody offers these anywhere, they are steamed tacos, also known as tacos de canasta, or basket tacos. We also tried the pupusas which were cheesy and comforting. Their chips and salsa are quite different here. They serve chicharrónes de harina. These are fried wheat chips, a common snack in Mexican households, and served with a salsa that packs some serious heat. It's not the hottest salsa ever, it's just hotter than the chips and salsa you'll get anywhere in the Triad. Provecho!

My fiancé had the downeast raspberry cider, which was really good. As far as food, I had the salmon tacos without avocado crema, sour cream, and guacamole. What was left was a juicy piece of smoked salmon. Parts were crunchy and my fear was that there were bones, but once I figured out it was just texture, the food was enjoyable. My fiancé ordered the lil sampler with brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken, and sausage. Chicken was dry, brisket was good, pork was flavorful and his favorite, and sausage was a little dry. Overall, I'd get my meal again but he would not because he knows what he wants. Nevertheless, sampler was great for our first time, so he could try a little of everything. He also ordered the brisket empanadas. They were crunchy, flavorful, and good amount of cheese to meat ratio. Would get again. There would be moments of a lot of people, but the service was still good. We would finish something, and someone would be right over to take it away. They also had cotton candy, even though we didn't get any, it created a nice, fun feel to the place. We watched soccer and had a great time. Even the music was setting the great tone. We will come back if we have time while we're in town.

Update for our 2026 annual visit:…read more We ate in this year and the service and ambiance matched the quality of the food we had last year. I have been looking forward to the World Ninja Championships so that I can eat here again and the team did not disappoint. I had the special, chilaquiles supreme and YES! Flank steak butterflied and so tender that I cut through it easily with a butter knife. They make the chips fresh for each order of chilaquiles and you can taste it. Generous amounts of every flavor that went into the meal and I left stuffed! Hands down, my favorite place and I have a feeling we are making a second trip here this year for sure! First impression as you walk in, or look at images of the menu: AUTHENTIC! First impressions when you bite into your food: They nailed the first impression! I had the lingua, tripa, pez, and Pastor tacos. My family had the California burrito, chicken and beef tacos, and the Enchiladas Mexicanos with mole and salsa verde. We also added a side of guac and chips. Guac: thin mixed avocado and perfectly sized chunks mixed in with the tomato and seasonings. An absolute must! The 4 tacos I ate were succulent to say the least. The tripa was thin and crispy, but you could taste the rendered fat in them. It had the texture of perfectly cooked bacon. Al pastor is one of my favorites and this one did not disappoint. Then there was the pez taco that was just the right amount of crispy without being an iota overcooked. At last I ate the lingua taco. It melted in my mouth and I immediately wanted another. I don't even like mole sauce, but I couldn't stop eating the mole enchilada. Aces, hands down. The California burrito was phenomenal and had the perfect amount of each ingredient and a delectable amount of heat and sweet cream sauce. The chicken was obviously hand shredded and had equal amounts of larger chunks of meat and thin pulled pieces to soak up all the flavor in endless nooks and crannies. If you have not been here please do your palate a flavor and stop in. The value far exceeded the price of our meals and we plan on coming here every year when the World Ninia finals rome to town

Even our family friend who is notoriously picky was impressed by the food. One downside was that it was difficult to understand the lady behind the counter however we were able to order by pointing to what we wanted. One of the meals we got we aren't sure exactly what it was, as we pointed to something someone else had gotten. Our friend got the chicken quesadilla and she said it was really good.
