    Round 2

I finally got a chance to try this place out! Looks like Guy Fieri approved at the Phoenix location. I can also put my stamp of approval here! I had some excellent tacos!! So fresh and tasty! Each taco was full of flavor, marinated meat, and fresh vegetables as well. We tried the Pastor, Lengua, Calabacitas, Barbacoa, Tacos Chiwas, and Asada. No complaints from me on these! I also really liked that my lime was fresh and I could squeeze juice out of the freshly cut lime. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We did outdoor since it was a lovey day out. The mango margarita was an added bonus. They have some other fun drinks available. I also got the watermelon in a can! We ended with a Tres Leches carrot cake. This was not my favorite as it was just a carrot cake with the tres leches drizzled on top. The strawberry on top was old. Aside from that go all in on the tacos! You won't regret it!

I've been here many times, having worked in downtown Mesa until recently. This place is fast casual, where you order at the counter and they'll bring your food to your table. There is a great patio out front with seating along Main Street, right through the open rolling "garage doors." Inside there is A long bar, tables, and a lounge area with a sofa and coffee table. There is a nice mural and a wall with dried red chilis hung on strings. They used to have a drink fountain, but that's home. You now have to buy sofas in a can or bottle. I am not a fan of that because a) they are quite overpriced and b) I like drinks in a cup with ice. The menu is mostly different types of tacos and quesadillas, plus a few other things. I ordered an asada taco and Apollo quesadilla. Both are good, but this is definitely not my favorite place for an asada taco. The polo quesadilla was, however, delish. There is a small salsa bar and I live the creamy jalapeno salsa--yum. All in all, this place is good. There is a lot of hype, so if you like hype-y places, you have to come.

I truly wanted to love this spot because my friend REALLY hyped it up. But In my opinion, it fell short. I had an asada taco and found it somewhat bland and the pieces of meat I received were really chewy. I also ordered a classic marg that was overpoweringly sweet. They were super busy inside this evening so I'm going to assume this was just an off night! I've heard great things and I'll still try out this spot in the future and order different things.

Strong margaritas!!! Normal sized but I'd say a little overpriced. I'd say all the drinks are priced a little high. I did enjoy the flavor of the hibiscus margarita with tajin rim. Tasty tacos for sure. I enjoyed the asada and camarón taco. They are kinda small sized so I'd recommend getting at least 3. They have a good salsa bar that you can grab and serve for yourself. They'll get you a table number and bring the food out to you after you pick your own seat. Decent sized seating area and a cute patio outside.

Super fun street taco restaurant. Three tacos more than filled me up. They have great cocktails too. Full bar. This is a casual, walk up to the counter and order type of service, but they do bring the tacos to your table. The tacos were so good that I forgot to take pictures of them. The price is right at Tacos Chiwas! Also, I noticed that Yelp Elites voted this as a top place to drink in Mesa, Az. Their margaritas were excellent. They use real fruit in them.

Great taco spot in downtown Mesa! Didn't know this place was here! Looks like Guy Fieri came here back in 2018! For those who haven't been here, there's parking in the back of the restaurant and there's a back entrance to the restaurant so you don't have to walk around! Great pricing too! I was surprised they don't do combo plates, so everything is A la carte. I ordered 3 tacos, asada, lengua and Barbacoa. Barbacoa was my favorite. Street corn is delicious too! I can't wait to come back and try all the different items! They also have a salsa bar so you can load up on the sauces for your tacos!

If you are looking for a consistently delicious and affordable taco spot, this is the place to go! The staff are kind and ambiance is hole in the wall taco area. It is dark and it can be hard to find seating on weekends but otherwise one of our favorite places to hang out and get some good food!

Still my favorite Taco shop in the Valley. Whenever my friend and I are in Mesa it is our must go-to spot for lunch. All the employees that work there very friendly and nice. My friend and I always try to sit at the bar, where you can directly order from the Bar Tender. We are a creatures of habit and pretty much order the same things every time, the Street Corn, the Asada, Carnitas and Tripe Tacos. My friend loves the Picadillo (Ground Beef) Burrito. This time past, we shared an Asada Quesadilla. The Quesadilla was so good, huge and filled with meat and cheese. Excellent place to stop by and grab a bite or two or three LOL along with a few beers.

Having just moved to Phoenix I've been super excited about the taco scene and Tacos Chiwas did not disappoint. It's located in the downtown area of Mesa so lots of walkability to nearby spots & the light rail. There's street parking in front or a small lot in the back as well. During my visit I tried an al pastor taco, carnitas taco & the elote in a cup. I loooooveed the al pastor taco and paired with the green salsa was a solid 5/5. The carnitas was tender and juicy but I didn't care as much for the flavor. Elote - simple easy & delicious. I'll definitely be back again & bringing friends who visit with me too.

Tacos Chiwas is hands down one of my favorite local taco spots. Since moving to the Mesa area, this location has quickly become a go-to for me--and for good reason. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the vibe is consistently great--casual, upbeat, and perfect whether you're dining in or grabbing something quick. When they have specialty drinks on the menu, don't sleep on them--they're always on point. Their tres leches carrot cake is the true hidden gem. Moist, flavorful, and absolutely unforgettable--seriously, I dream about it. The Jamaica and horchata are also top-tier and deserve an honorable mention. My personal favorite is the carne asada quesadilla--cheesy, crispy, and loaded with flavor. But the tacos are just as impressive, with bold, authentic flavors that never miss. If you haven't been yet, go. If you have--then you already know. This place is a local treasure.

Visited Tacos Chiwas while in Mesa. The atmosphere was lively and casual, and the service was friendly -- you order at the counter, grab a number, and the food comes out quick. Tried a few of their tacos and one was solid: flavorful, a nice hit of heat. Overall, a fun, no-nonsense spot that delivers good tacos and is absolutely worth a return visit. Saluti

I was visiting a friend in Arizona and we decided to check out Tacos Chiwas. I ordered the pastor tacos and a Mezcal mule. The Mezcal mule was definitely the highlight--delicious, well-balanced, and had a nice kick to it. If you're into mezcal, I'd recommend trying it. The pastor tacos, though, were just OK. The meat was decent but didn't really stand out flavor-wise. As for the salsas, I appreciated the variety and the effort to label them by spice level (mild, medium, hot), but honestly, they all leaned pretty mild--even the one labeled "really hot" tasted more like a medium at best. Overall, it was a decent experience.

Shrimp, calabacitas, barbacoa, & chicken tacos.

The quality really stands out--especially the homemade tortillas, which take everything to the next level. The al pastor and carne asada are both incredible, packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. I also love that the al pastor is cooked authentically on a spit, which really adds to the flavor and experience. There's also a great variety of options on the menu, so there's something for everyone. Service is consistently quick, even when it's busy, which makes it a great spot whether you're grabbing a quick meal or sitting down to enjoy your food. Their Taco Tuesday deal is also a huge win--great value without sacrificing quality, and it keeps us coming back regularly. And the salsa deserves its own shoutout--absolutely incredible! It's packed with flavor and honestly good enough that you could enjoy it on its own. It really takes everything to the next level. If you're looking for authentic-style tacos with great flavor, fresh ingredients, fast service, and awesome specials, Tacos Tijuana is a must-visit. Easily one of my top spots in the area!

Sometimes the best meals happen because your original plan falls through. That was exactly the case…read morehere, and honestly... I'm not even a little mad about it. I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.
