Let me tell you this chorizo was probably some of the best I've had, I tried the half green and red chilaquiles both were great. Even though our waitress was nice, we waited a fair amount of time while the entire staff was in back room chatting extremely loudly even over the loud 50/60's music early in the morning. There was only one other customer in the cafe. We had the Eggs Florentine Benedict which was good despite the slight odd taste of the toasted English muffin. The orange juice was very fresh as you would expect from California. The setting is nice although the lack of people sitting might have been a good indicator. This is a place where you believe is a cute place to go. Perhaps just an off day with lack of attention to tourists. Even though I understand that most restaurants do not prefer offering half plates, I would have spent more if they would have done so. read more

The options are many: Skillets, omelets, sweets, salads and more. I could not resist the carne asada (including rice, beans, squash, carrots, jalapeños, avocado and French fries). All so good and fresh. The rice cilantro built in; the beans were creamy and smooth and delicious. The meat was cooked pretty much to order (MR), and it comes with your choice of corn or flour tortillas. It's huge, and I nearly finished it all! My dining companion got the breakfast burrito which looked good and was, in due time, demolished. The green and red chilaquiles were AMAZING. Beautiful plating, served over whole pinto beans with sour cream and cheese. Perfect crunch (not soggy), and the red chilaquiles were my favorite, super flavorful and authentic. I also tried the sopes and WOW. I did not have a great experience here! First, my boyfriend made a reservation for us, but when we arrived, no one came to the front to meet us for several minutes (we were at the podium outside but the doors are clear glass), and when we walked in the door to try to grab someone, no one made eye contact or greeted us again for several minutes. I had to wave someone down and ask about our reservation, one of the staff members said to hold on, and we proceeded to wait awkwardly without guidance for several more minutes. Once we got seated, our waitress came up and immediately asked us if we were ready to order, without having opened the menu yet. Further, we waited about 30 minutes for our food to come out once we did order. My boyfriend ordered one of the breakfast combos with scrambled eggs, ham and hash browns. His meal was cold and the serving of ham was pretty small. On the other hand, I had the Monarca breakfast burrito, which was hearty and flavorful. I really liked the chorizo! I thought the breakfast burrito was very good, but the service experience here would probably prevent me from going back before trying other places in the area. On our way to the Central Valley for Christmas, we had to stop and charge in Paso Robles. The map unexpectedly routed us to a charger near downtown Paso, and since it was Christmas, we weren't sure anything would be open. We ended up at Monarca, right in the heart of downtown Paso Robles--and I'm glad we did. From the moment we walked in, the place felt welcoming. The host, server, and waitress were all genuinely friendly, which immediately set a great tone. We started with freshly squeezed orange juice--and I don't mean squeezed earlier that day. It's squeezed when you order, and you can absolutely taste the difference. For food, we ordered the Eggs Benedict and the Monarca Chorizo Benedict. While the yolks weren't as runny as we prefer, everything else more than made up for it. The food was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. The homemade chorizo stood out--nicely spiced, not greasy, and very well balanced. Overall, great flavors all around, a warm atmosphere, and for the area, the prices were very reasonable. I had breakfast at Monarca twice during our recent stay in Paso. The food was fresh, simple and made to order, thus took a little longer. I don't mind the wait because quality is apparent all throughout. On the drink menu - fresh squeezed orange juice, iced tea, expresso drinks made to order (no decaf however), Bloody Mary cocktails, Mimosas, and a wide array of local boutique wines. Entrees range from Mexican to traditional American fare. The shrimp tacos were super! My kids enjoyed the chicken nuggets and French toast. My older daughter said the breakfast burrito was " the bomb" and the best she's ever tasted. Service is solid and friendly. He insisted I try his french toast, and even though I was already stuffed, I ended up eating half a piece. It was that good. The mimosas? So smooth. I usually don't love mimosas because of the aftertaste, but this one was perfectly balanced and easy to sip. And the coffee -- let's talk about the coffee. It was phenomenal. We came here for a late lunch on our way to Pismo. We wanted a brunch place in hopes our picky toddler would eat. The restaurant is small but very cozy. Love all the little touches with butterflies. They offer high chairs and also a coloring sheeting with crayons with a kids menu. We ordered shrimp tacos, beef tacos and a kids French toast with an egg (scrambled) and a choice of sausage or bacon. Unfortunately, our Kiddo refused to eat but we really enjoyed it!
