Delicious brunch spot in downtown Paso! Cute cafe and friendly staff and quick service. I got the Denver omelette with added mushrooms. It came with avocado and choice of bread and either country potatoes or hash browns. They have a bunch of sauces at the table to top your breakfast the food was delicious. Will definitely come again!
Monarca has escaped me, seems to be closed everytime I'm looking for a place. They have breakfast and lunch hours M-Th, and longer days F-Su. As it turns out, I've lost out until recently. So damn cute inside, especially during the holidays. So damn nice and helpful, service and management. So damn delicious, owner is also the chef and he knows what he's doing. So damn fresh, from the homemade chorizo, fish, and all the vegies. Basically, they have Mexican food...with a steak & a few seafood options for dinner. I'll be back, and often. Their 3 salsa's made fresh everyday are nothing short of magnificent.
Solid option for breakfast/brunch right in the center of town, Monarca is delicious. A cozy setting nestled among several businesses and yet it's comfortable and even something of an oasis once you enter. Holiday lights, for now, but still it's pretty inside. The options are many: Skillets, omelets, sweets, salads and more. I could not resist the carne asada (including rice, beans, squash, carrots, jalapeños, avocado and French fries). All so good and fresh. The rice cilantro built in; the beans were creamy and smooth and delicious. The meat was cooked pretty much to order (MR), and it comes with your choice of corn or flour tortillas. It's huge, and I nearly finished it all! My dining companion got the breakfast burrito which looked good and was, in due time, demolished. There is such a deep menu here that I imagine you probably can't go wrong with whatever catches your eye. I also liked the coffee; a good bodied, non-acidic brew worthy of a few refills.
We did a quick look for sit down breakfast places we could walk to, and this one popped up as interesting. The place itself was clean and well decorated. When we arrived it was fairly empty, yet somehow we were offered the 2 worst tables - right at the door, and then in the corner where the wasn't enough room to sit. Third try and we got one against the wall. Hubby got an omelet and potatoes. Bread didn't seem buttered, but he enjoyed the egg. I got the California burrito with maduros. Not much meat in the burrito but it was ok. Maduros were awful and I was sad to have to pass on them. We laughed on our way out, noting they had specials advertised outside but not inside. The menu seems like it has an identity disorder - Peruvian? Mexican? American? My guess is that the food etc would be better if they leaned into one. Giving this a genuine "meh". I've had better, but I've had worse. And no real need to return.

First, my boyfriend made a reservation for us, but when we arrived, no one came to the front to meet us for several minutes (we were at the podium outside but the doors are clear glass), and when we walked in the door to try to grab someone, no one made eye contact or greeted us again for several minutes. I had to wave someone down and ask about our reservation, one of the staff members said to hold on, and we proceeded to wait awkwardly without guidance for several more minutes. Once we got seated, our waitress came up and immediately asked us if we were ready to order, without having opened the menu yet. Further, we waited about 30 minutes for our food to come out once we did order. My boyfriend ordered one of the breakfast combos with scrambled eggs, ham and hash browns. His meal was cold and the serving of ham was pretty small. On the other hand, I had the Monarca breakfast burrito, which was hearty and flavorful. I really liked the chorizo! I thought the breakfast burrito was very good, but the service experience here would probably prevent me from going back before trying other places in the area. I hope others don't have this same experience, as it looked like they had many other good items on the menu!
The green and red chilaquiles were AMAZING. Beautiful plating, served over whole pinto beans with sour cream and cheese. Perfect crunch (not soggy), and the red chilaquiles were my favorite, super flavorful and authentic. I also tried the sopes and WOW. They stayed crunchy, the chorizo wasn't spicy, and the sauces were sooo good, especially the green one. The service was great! The restaurant was cute inside! Lots of butterfly decorations! Cute! Definitely coming back!

Food was and service was great. I usually do Brunch for breakfast decided to try something new. Loved the guava mimosa and how it was presented. The shrimp chilaquiles were delicious had the red and green sauce. Yummy. Will be back. read more

Simply amazing! This small quaint restaurant in the heart of downtown is cranking out amazing food. Had the chilaquiles with eggs and chorizo. Let me tell you this chorizo was probably some of the best I've had, I tried the half green and red chilaquiles both were great. Service was great, she was very polite and guided me through the menu. read more

Very cute spot with a good variety of breakfast items. I opted for the homemade breakfast plate which was two sopes with beans, chorizo, avocado, and eggs. The door was very good and definitely tasted homemade. The service was hit or miss, but they were very nice. read more

Pretty good! I ordered the chile relleno and an Arnold Palmer. The Chie was EXCEPTIONAL. The service was pretty quick too. We sat outside, so there wasn't much of a view except for the park. My one lil nitpick was that the tortillas were a bit greasy for my taste. read more

Was shopping in Paso Robles and needed lunch. Ordered a Club Sandwich, which came on a roll. It also came with some criss-cut fries. I ordered a soda. The sandwich was really dry, and the fries lacked flavor. Might come here again if I am in the area, but would order something else. read more
Stopped for Sunday brunch in downtown Paso Robles. We were lucky to get seated fairly quickly considering most places were packed, including this one. Pretty generous serving and the food was delish! We all liked what we got. :) read more

Monarca seems like the new kid on the block in Paso Town Square, and it is a welcome addition. The menu has lots of options and the interior of the restaurant is charming! The food prices are good and the presentation of the food is spectacular. I tried the garlic shrimp and the steak with an enchilada. The steak was a little bit tough, but the flavor was excellent! read more

GIVE THIS GEM A TRY!!!! I visited Monarca Restaurant on a Saturday while I was solo in the Paso Robles/Atascadero area, and I couldn't have made a better decision by popping in when my first choice was closed. From the moment I arrived the staff welcomed me with genuine warmth and kindness. As someone who eats very health-consciously, I appreciated how clearly their menu shows a commitment to scratch-made dishes and fresh ingredients. There are plenty of options that feel wholesome without sacrificing flavor. Highlights from my meal: * The chilaquiles were vibrant and perfectly prepared with the combination of green and red sauce. * The maduros were soft, sweet, and beautifully presented * The cauliflower taco was a clever, tasty option... actually hitting the spot for something lighter but still satisfying and flavorful!! * And the guava mimosas... lovely and refreshing! What really struck me was how comfortable I felt dining alone, the staff made me feel very at ease and the atmosphere was just right. The presentation of the food, the variety of protein-and-healthy-option choices, and the visible effort in the kitchen all add up to a very strong experience. I wish Monarca Restaurant the very best in their journey. I'm already looking forward to my next visit and highly recommend it to anyone in the area looking for delicious, mindful food in a warm setting. It's a quiet place very casual in a great spot downtown Paso Robles. Price is typical for the area. Our server was friendly and polite. My wife enjoyed the avocado toast and I had the meat lovers omelette. All the food was good. read more

On our way to the Central Valley for Christmas, we had to stop and charge in Paso Robles. The map unexpectedly routed us to a charger near downtown Paso, and since it was Christmas, we weren't sure anything would be open. We ended up at Monarca, right in the heart of downtown Paso Robles--and I'm glad we did. From the moment we walked in, the place felt welcoming. The host, server, and waitress were all genuinely friendly, which immediately set a great tone. We started with freshly squeezed orange juice--and I don't mean squeezed earlier that day. It's squeezed when you order, and you can absolutely taste the difference. For food, we ordered the Eggs Benedict and the Monarca Chorizo Benedict. While the yolks weren't as runny as we prefer, everything else more than made up for it. The food was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. The homemade chorizo stood out--nicely spiced, not greasy, and very well balanced. Overall, great flavors all around, a warm atmosphere, and for the area, the prices were very reasonable. Definitely a solid stop in downtown Paso Robles, especially when you're not even sure places will be open on a holiday. read more
We were greeted with a smile and were lucky to get a table quickly for a large party. It was early Sunday morning but quickly the restaurant filled up. It took quite a bit to get the drinks out to us and a re-fire on the wrong food item took a while as well BUT the food was good. Get anything that comes with chorizo. It was tasty and portion size is good. Another note worthy item is the Monarca Breakfast Burrito $17: Two scrambled eggs, beans, sour cream, jack cheese, three color peppers onions, bacon, and pork sausage with a side of country potatoes. The burrito was delicious and filling. Cozy familiar spot for breakfast. read more

Driving through los Robles at breakfast time. Stopped here for a bite. It's a cute little place with butterflies on the walls. We were quickly greeted and served drinks. We placed our order and it was served fast. Food was fair. My husband loved the bacon, it was thick and crunchy. Eggs were ordered over easy but were served over medium. Potatoes were unusual. The spice was out of the ordinary in a nice way. Pancakes had little flavor and were dense. Toast was like cardboard. Glad we stopped but would not come back. read more
I had breakfast at Monarca twice during our recent stay in Paso. The food was fresh, simple and made to order, thus took a little longer. I don't mind the wait because quality is apparent all throughout. On the drink menu - fresh squeezed orange juice, iced tea, expresso drinks made to order (no decaf however), Bloody Mary cocktails, Mimosas, and a wide array of local boutique wines. Entrees range from Mexican to traditional American fare. The shrimp tacos were super! My kids enjoyed the chicken nuggets and French toast. My older daughter said the breakfast burrito was " the bomb" and the best she's ever tasted. Service is solid and friendly. I observed that each employee has completed a food handler certification training. I like that! Five stars! read more

If you're looking for a spot that delivers flavor, comfort, and an unforgettable brunch experience -- run, don't walk, to Monarca. I ordered the homemade breakfast and swapped out the chorizo for carne asada -- and wow, what a decision. The combination of perfectly cooked eggs, pickled onions, sour cream, and guacamole was absolute perfection. Every bite was a flavor bomb, and even though I knew I was full, I just couldn't stop eating. My husband got Combo #2, which came with eggs, french toast, bacon, and country potatoes, and every bite was somehow better than the last. He insisted I try his french toast, and even though I was already stuffed, I ended up eating half a piece. It was that good. The mimosas? So smooth. I usually don't love mimosas because of the aftertaste, but this one was perfectly balanced and easy to sip. And the coffee -- let's talk about the coffee. It was phenomenal. We had to ask what it was, and they told us it's Peruvian. Whatever it is, it's incredible. Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and visit Monarca. A bit of a wait to get in, but the food was excellent and the service was great! I had the Monarco breakfast burrito that came with a cornucopia of various meats, plus a half dozen other delightful ingredients. I hate to brag, but I ate the whole thing. My wife got the veggie breakfast burrito and daughter got a combo. Both hit the spot and were reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit. read more

We came at around 11:30 am on the Memorial Day morning. Some people inside but not crowded. The restaurant was cozy and casual. Two people shared the steak skillet because we wanted to try something else in the City. The plate came sizzling. The eggs on the top were medium cooked, good for eating with the cheese, potatoes and meat under. Everything inside was well seasoned with pepper fragrant. read more

Great breakfast spot. We got a couple omelets that were pretty big. It's not the cheapest place ever, but the portions make up for that. I got a mimosa that was a little heavy on the orange juice, but otherwise delicious. Service was excellent, and the atmosphere fit our Sunday morning mood very nicely. Will definitely be coming back for our future Paso Robles trips! read more

We came to try this place. I had the red chilaquiles. Was really looking forward to them. Once looking closely as shown in photo. Found a small hair. Waitress was friendly but didn't check on us once. The manager came and apologized and offered a small discount. Will probably not return. read more
