100% one of the worst experiences I have had in San Diego. I would never recommend any business that is as unprofessional as Tacos Al Gabacho. We had made reservations with Devan a Month in advance for the Raider/Charger game for 25 people. Devan gave me a long winded explanation on how he collects money and basically it was because someone had put in a large order and never paid. I let him know that would not be an issue with our group. At the end he asked if we could do a ticket exchange for his catering service. We purchased 2 additional tickets ($220). Two days before the game everything was confirmed we were set to meet at 8 am with another group he was catering for as well. Will 8 am game day we could not get a hold of Devan, I called the other group he was catering (group of 50 traveling down from LA) and they too could not get ahold of him. I finally go a hold of his wife/business partner and she could not tell me anything. It's been over a couple weeks since the game and I have not heard back of course he does not take my calls. So disappointing and unprofessional! There are a lot of great Mexican Catering companies out there, don't use this business if you don't need to. read more

Once again, we trusted Devan & Maria to provide their excellent service & fabulous food for a third time this fall! Each event was different and all were scheduled and handled very professionally. They arrived well before the San Diego Rose Society's Annual Holiday Luncheon & Awards event. As members started to arrive, caterers were prepped, meats were cooked and fresh tortillas ready to be filled! The flow of guests moved steadily past the taco cart and on to the separate table for homemade salsas, guacamole, cut limes, onions and peppers. The freshly cooked, seasoned rice and beans that had been slow cooked overnight were also a hit and rounded out the meal. Of course most people went back for seconds and raved about the quality, as well as the new experience of a Taco Truck! Mariachis Real De San Diego topped the afternoon off, wandering through the guest tables taking requests for their excellent music, both instrumental and vocal, inside and out! Oh my gosh ! Soooooo I got married a couple of days ago on 1/21/17 Devan and his wife were one of if not the best part of the reception. If you are thinking about a taco catering hire them immediately! My parents were nervous when I was going to hire a white guy to cater our event with Mexican food ... I contacted devan because of his yelp reviews, but I hired him because of who he is. When I contacted him and spoke with him I had already spoken with other caterers and devan was the first down to earth, HONEST and kind person I had spoken to in my search for a caterer. He made every effort to help me and I couldn't have asked for better! The rate was fair and good ! The chicken was moist the adobada savory , and the fish tacos were on point ! My wife and I actually had some troubles come up and were late to our own reception ! But when we did arrive everyone was raving about the food! Devan was so understanding and accommodating , I can't even begin to express how in the face of everything going wrong with the weather and my health and problems how refreshing it was to never ever have food or catering be a problem thanks to devan his wife , the homemade tortillas and the wonderful tacos ! I booked Devan's team for my son's graduation party. We ordered the chicken, carne aside and fish tacos with all the trimmings. I can't say how wonderful everything tasted. Jeanine and Emmanuel (Devan's wife, Maria's, adult children) were fantastic. They showed up on time and had everything ready. The food presentation was clean and extremely inviting. They were so kind and courteous. I had many guests that didn't eat meat but they eat fish. The fish tacos were a huge hit. They were not made with tilapia or catfish. They were made with fresh red snapper and it was made in Devan's homemade batter. His sauce was also amazing. The carne asada was seasoned nicely and was so tasty. I really like the recipe for his beans also. Aromatic and delicious. Another huge hit was his homemade tortillas made right on the spot! Tacos el gabacho cooked up delicious food for our wedding rehearsal dinner! All of our 70 guests enjoyed the food and said it was top notch. The carne asada, pollo asada, and adobada were awesome and the rice was some of the best we've had. Devan was very flexible, nice, and a pleasure to work with in planning the event. For the day of, Jenine and Leon were accommodating to our guests and even stayed a little longer to cook up extra tortillas to go with the extra meat they told us we could take home. This review is long overdue. This is our third time using Devan and Tacos El Gabacho and we were thrilled with our experience as usual. Let me say we have tried multiple taco carts in the San Diego area and this is our go to from now on! Devan starts the experience by coming to visit in person to help set the menu and tailor every detail of your experience. He is one of the friendliest people out there and a Navy Vet which I love. He and his team go above and beyond to make sure everyone enjoys their time. Today, he and his brother in law even helped us unload our car full of stuff while they were hard working away behind the grill. The cart itself is very unique and a perfect setup for any event. Easy to fit almost anywhere and really adds to the authentic feel. Devan was just telling me today how he had it custom made down in TJ. Very cool. Any review would be remiss if I didn't talk food quality. There is no real way to summarize awesome food in a post but I have yet to meet a person who couldn't help themselves from going up for seconds or thirds. Just be warned, the red sauce is very hot! I thought I was a tough guy with hot stuff but I was proven wrong. Lastly, you will be getting a bargain considering all the food you will get (usually with leftovers) and the hard work these guys put into their product. The only thing that makes me nervous about an awesome review is they will get so busy that they won't be available for my next event! Haha. But seriously. Great food. Great people. Don't go anywhere else. I think they also do some cool stuff like TJ hot dogs and burgers, we just haven't tried it yet. I'm sure it is just as delicious as everything else. We had them cater my dad's retirement party last weekend, we had about 65 guests. My mom found them on yelp and went with them due to the 5 star rating. The food was Excellent! Everyone raved about how good it was. We had carne asada, pollo, adobada, and veggies. Everything was fresh and the handmade tortillas were outstanding. The pinto beans my husband said tasted like how his mom used to make them as a child. We were very pleased with their food and service. We hired Renee and her crew at Tacos El Gabacho to provide food for our guests at our welcome celebration for our three grand babies born in 2017. We were SO lucky to find them online, and from the first email contact, we were impressed with their professionalism and timeliness. But that was nothing compared to meeting them in person! They were all such great people, in addition to being great cooks!! They began cooking 3 hours before serving, and the aromas lofting through the air had everyone, including children, salivating!! The food was freshly prepared and very tasty...we had chicken, pork, beef all of good quality......accompanied by wonderful rice and beans....Maria made the taco shells fresh on the grills. Everyone had ample and there was a lot left over for people to take home :)). Really nice people, hardworking, honest and very social. I had no idea where to hire this type of service and really lucked out on first try............would use them again for whatever comes up; a great way to do. We hired Devan to make lunch for our son's first birthday. We had a party of 25 adults and 9 kids. I am SO happy we decided to go with Devan. His food is fresh, authentic and tasty. His prices are amazing too. He came over a few weeks before the party to nail down the details of types of meats, vegetables and quantities. I hired El Gabacho for our son's rehearsal dinner. The food was fantastic. There was about 35 people there and everyone raved about how good the tacos and service were. Devan arrived about 2 hours early and was set up and ready to go when we arrived back to the house. Devan was very professional, friendly and attentive. He was upbeat and it shows that he truly enjoys what he does. His pricing is very reasonable. He offers a lot of different meat options and you get to choose what you want. I chose chicken, beef and pork which were all seasoned wonderfully and delicious. There was also a variety of good sauces. We live downtown with very limited yard space, but Tacos El Gabacho was still able to cook and prepare fresh food on-site without any issues. (Devan had extremely creative ideas!) Devan was very responsive when it comes to communicating the party with you. He meets up with you to discuss what you want at the party such as how many pounds of each meat, what type of meat, if you want grilled green onions & peppers, utensils, plates, etc. I like how he compares your party size order to his previous party sizes and what they order to get an eye ball on what you need to order. I have never order or make tacos for a party of 30 so even if you ask me how many lbs of each meat or how many stalks of green onions 30 people eats so that was my disadvantage because I have no idea what I wanted. If I had known, I would have order more grilled green onions and rice since my party ate all of the grilled green onions and rice within the first hour of service. I took off a star for a few things. My guests said the rice and beans were salty. I thought the beans were really really salty. Nobody ate it. I personally would have like it if there were more meats in each taco and if there were guacamole on top of the tacos. I guess if there were more meat on the tacos, there might not be enough tacos for everybody. When we meet up, Devan mentioned he makes the guacamole the day before but I didn't see any at the party. There were 3 salsas and they all tasted really good. Although one of the salsa has avocado in it, I prefer guacamole on top of the tacos. I also prefer cheese melted on the hamburgers like in some of the party pictures but they were just plain hamburger and hot dogs at my party. I love love the homemade corn tortillas made by Maria! I think this is what makes the tacos stand out. Overall, my guests and I enjoyed and think the food was delicious so I give Tacos El Gabacho 4 stars. read more

After reading the Yelp reviews, I decided Tacos El Gabacha would be perfect for my husband's birthday celebration. I requested a quote and Janeen was very timely in getting back to me. I booked my date and was told that someone would get back to me in the next couple days to firm everything up. I never heard back. I have called no less than five times to try and confirm that my event was booked and they were still on to cater, but no response. Now it is a week before my party and I am scrambling to find other catering arrangements. Not the experience I was hoping for after such great reviews. Very disappointed and stressed. read more

Instead of him being up front about not having the insurance requested, he simply gave me the "run around". Dishonest and unprofessional. Wasted my time. Devan responded quickly to my initial inquiry for 30-35 people and quoted $13 per person. Once I confirmed we were interested and wanted to set up the final cost he made an appointment with me and came out to review the location and finalize the details of the order. The final bill was based on $13 per person x 30 people ( included 5lbs of each carne, pollo, adobada). I believe the total was calculated as follows: $390 x 10% service fee = $429 x 15 % tip = $493.35. Price also included was beans, rice, plates, napkins, salsa, guacamole sauce, set up, clean up etc. We asked for another 3lbs of fish since our party was on Good Friday 4/14/17. Fish was excellent. He uses red snapper, breaded with panko crumbs. On the day of the party Devan and Jeanine came out as promised 2 hours before the party to set up. The party was a success, the food was excellent, and the handmade corn tortillas by Jeanine were amazing. The masa they use for the tortillas I believe was made by her mom. We actually had about 40 people from our company show up (this was not expected) so we ended up getting charged for those extra people even though the amount of meat brought was for 30 people. We ate all the food- there were almost no leftover - expected with 40 people. We had a great time so I definitely recommend Tacos El Gabacho just beware the price is per person and you will get charged for extra people for the same amount of food. read more

I am writing this review as I am enjoying the delicious leftovers from a super fun party that Devan and his daughter, Janine, catered for us this past week. You know when you have just had the most amazing experience with someone and you want to tell everyone?? Well, I can't say enough good about this group! I agree with the other reviews that give them 5 stars!! They could not have been better! From the first contact, Devan was responsive and communicative. Because of this, the whole process was a breeze! It was easy to decide on a menu, venue and price. On the day of the event, Devan and Janine arrived early to set everything up. He sent me a text when they were on their way to the venue. The food was fabulous! I was concerned because I have had food from taco carts in the past where you wonder what 'parts' you are eating. Again, I could not have been happier with the food! We had three types of meat- all flavored differently and so deliciously! NO scary parts! All of the accessories: salsas, peppers, rice, beans, fresh-hand-made-as-you-are-watching corn tortillas were all super yummy. And yes! they give you the leftovers, so bring containers just in case. Overall, the experience was first rate. I cannot recommend TACOS EL GABACHO highly enough. They were completely fabulous! read more

On the day of the party, Janine & Maria came with the cart & all their equipment, setting up about 2 hours early, so they could hand-make the fresh tortillas & get the meat cooked & ready for our agreed-on serving time. They were ready to go as promised, and everything was delicious! The beef & chicken was tender & tasty, and the pork was spicy (just like we like it!). The sides were great as well. As it turned out, we ended up with 50 people at the party, and there was enough food for everyone. There would have been a lot of leftovers if only 40 people showed up!
