During this entire COVID-19 pandemic it was difficult to find someone to cater an event which is all the more reason we are super thankful they were able to come through. The staff members were super friendly, the food was amazing, they even added eggs to the menu as a courtesy so we could offer breakfast burritos to our staff. The price was very reasonable. I hired Tacos El Gabacho for my son's first birthday party. There are a lot of good reviews on Yelp and a lot of bad ones. Having read a few of each I saw that they charge more at the location then what is quoted. So when I had my husband call, I made sure we asked about service fees and extra cost to get a correct quote. We agreed on a price, time, and food. From the moment Devin arrived he complained about having to get into our backyard by going around the back side. He then complained about previous customers.. the location, another one stole his cone, etc. He did get to our location pretty early. Great! We said you are welcome to set up but you are early. He looked confused and said his Wife Maria must have gotten the time wrong. No worries he said he would stay. Then he said oh by the way the service time is an hour not two hours as Maria quoted us. He said he would leave the left over food. Eh- okay no biggie. We let that slide as well. Devin started to cook the food and prep for the party. Luckily not too many people came early because as he was prepping he was on a call being rude and disrespectful. He was talking on the phone complaining that his wife got the time wrong, and she got the service time wrong. Then he proceeded to say that this party is all full with "your people" the girl on the phone who was on speaker phone said "mexicans? Let me see". Not sure if he was on FaceTime or he took pictures of us. Again, we didn't say anything. Finally, we got to the eating part. I ran around and told all the parents that there was quesadillas for the kids. When the parents approached the taco stand, there was NO CHEESE. When I asked about the cheese he said his Wife again did not put that on the order. I was furious at this point. I told my husband to make sure there was cheese. After all it's a kids party. My husband pulls the invoice from his email sure enough it says 1/2 pound of cheese. Devin just kept blaming his wife. We had to scramble for cheese in my moms fridge. Okay - now it's time to pay. Oh what do you know after asking if there was any fees Maria Devins wife must have been confused again because he added on a service fee! Omg. Seriously. My husband at this point took over because I was way too mad. At the end of the day he charged us what invoice said and made it right only having to argue about how many things went wrong. I do have to say that the food was good and guest were for the most part happy. If Devin and Maria were more professional, it would have been a great event. I would even maybe hire them again, but way too may things went wrong. It would have been a lot smoother if he would have just owned up to mistakes and made it better. Business is family run and we chose TEG based on their 5 star Yelp reviews. Once again, Yelp was correct. Our communications with TEG and ordering process was very easy. They arrived almost three hours early to set up and prepare the food so it was ready to be served once people arrived. We were looking for a taquero for my 60th birthday party. After looking over Yelp reviews and messaging taqueros for prices and availability, we decided to choose Tacos El Gabacho because they met our criteria for price, high review ratings and availability. I messaged Maria a few times to update/confirm number of guests and the menu we wanted. Maria responded promptly and professionally. On the day of the event, Manny called to inform me that they were on their way (about 2 hours before serving) to set up and prepare the food. Food was served between 12:30pm to 2:30pm. They prepared carne asada (beef), pollo asado (chicken) and adobada (pork). As well as cheese, Spanish rice, pinto beans, tortilla chips & aqua frescas (horchata and jamaica). The aqua frescas were delicious! The horchata had a hint of cinnamon taste to it and the jamaica was perfect and not too sweet! Forks, spoons, napkins and plates are provided as well as red and green salsa, guacamole, limes, cilantro, white onions and hot carrots. Make sure you bring containers for leftovers. Manny and Tracy did a great job preparing the food and hand made tortillas as well as packing away our leftovers. I'd give this place 0 stars if I could. We had reserved them for a teacher's end of the year party. I had arranged for payment the day of with their owner Devan, explaining that it was a group of teachers pitching in to pay for their end of the year party. He assured me that would work fine. When I hadn't heard from him about a time to check our our backyard, I reached out Wednesday morning for a Saturday party. He did not reply until Friday stating that his father was in the hospital and he couldn't do the party. I felt horrible that his father was ill. However, having dealt with family emergencies myself and time sensitive guidelines with my own around the clock work, I wish he would have replied sooner to my messages. It was the 48+ hours waiting that put me in limbo. I didn't want to double book taco cart services, but I also didn't want to be without this option for our large party. Needless to say, we hired another company and I used that reliable company for 2 events I arranged with my work for 250-300 guests. OMGoodness! So good! We had my 50th birthday on Saturday with about 45 people. They arrived and set up their commercial grill and within a few minutes the smells had our mouths watering. The food was delicious and everyone raved about it! They brought 3 kinds of meat (carne asada, pollo asada, and adobada) rice, beans (whole pinto), salsa, chips, plates, silverware and napkins. More than enough for everyone, so much leftovers. Have your own containers for the leftovers! Only complaint is the email communication. It was a little lacking. I sent emails asking what was included and responses were delayed and incomplete. I'd ask a couple of questions and only one would get answers. I ended up buying chips and salsa because I asked if it was included and that never got answered. Not a big deal but it would be best to get an email that tells you what is included, what time they are showing up and what time they are leaving. We loved that my parents were able to relax and enjoy their party! For those in search of a taco caterer, look no further. Here is my consumer overview: 1. Communication is prompt and detailed. Devan responded to my quote request within 10 minutes ( shocking because my e-mail was sent at midnight!) and was attentive the entire transaction (he even came to my work so we could plan menu). 2. He was happy to cater a smaller party of 30 and had no problem accommodating us when our guest list hit 70. 3. For what you get, his prices are very reasonable. It's $12. per person for (tender, juicy!) carne asada, pollo asada and carnita tacos plus wonderful, authentic Mexican beans and rice (kept piping hot in steam tray). 4. Included is tons of fresh guacamole, green salsa (milder), red salsa (hot!), grilled jalapeño, grilled yellow pepper, grilled green onion, cilantro and radishes. 5. Also included plates, napkins, cutlery and a tidy waste receptacle. 6. We spent a little extra for quesadillas, grilled vegetables (three kinds of peppers, two kinds of squash and onions...all marinaded!) and fish tacos (fresh fish was lightly breaded in beer batter, deep fried on demand and serviced with shredded cabbage and a delicious cream sauce). Our guests loved these and it was totally worth a few extra bucks!!! 7. Aguas frescas: We sprung for jamaica and horchata (they are an inexpensive add on). They were fresh and delicious! In fact, the homemade horchata is probably the best I've ever had. 8. All of their corn tortillas are handmade on site!!! They are pure heaven!!! The guests went crazy for these. Don't even think of hiring a taco caterer who doesn't make their own (and believe me many don't). It literally makes the meal. My parents were delighted Jeanine made them piles of fresh tortillas to enjoy the next day. 9. The quality: Everything was super fresh and made from scratch (the same day!). Meats were marinated and expertly grilled by the amazing Albert. Veggies and fish were delicately seasoned and cooked to perfection by the lovely Jeanine. The quantity: Portions are very generous. You WILL have leftovers (and they leave it all!!). 10. Jeanine and Albert arrived several hours before hand to set up. They are extremely organized and worked their butts off the entire event. Other than the extra foods we chose, the 25% gratuity is the only additional fee they charge (no travel fees like most other taco caterers). They totally earned it and we made sure to throw in a little extra for taking such good care of our guests. 11. They helped package up all remaining food (it's yours!) and left our home as neat as a pin. 12. The cart is fastidiously clean as was every container they put out. They also kept all the condiments full and kept tidying up the tables the entire party. 13. Get the chips (what's a few more bucks??). We used Tacos El Gabacho for my nephews Repast on April 25, 2024. We fed over 200 people and I must say the caterer planned accordingly and DID NOT run out of food. They fed everyone as planned. The food was really delicious and fresh. They use a Taco Truck which was very appropriate and convenient. Maria was very accommodating when I reserved the date and time and discussed the menu and pricing. Maria's accommodating nature and positive disposition during the reservation process added to the overall professional service provided by Tacos El Gabacho. Our guests were very pleased with the food and the professional service. The one suggestion I would impart would be for the caterer to communicate to the guests about the salsa spice levels, to be sure to let people know that salsa labeled HOT is actually Extremely Hot. We had many people that normlly eat hot salsa and could not eat their tacos because they had placed the Hot salsa on them (and complained that it was exceptionally/too hot). We had 700 associates to feed for Christmas and they were on point to serve them all. Had everything we needed, 3 different meats, hot and mild sauces, we had the guacamole, chips, rice and beans. Do NOT use this company for catering. Recently booked them after seeing the Yelp reviews but I didn't look at any of the bad ones. I had them cater my baby shower and I confirmed via email the day before. (I sent the email to them to confirm). They showed up LATE and forgot to bring the warmers for the food!!! By the time they returned with the warmers guests were showing up which is NOT how I had it planned. They left a cooler with the salsas/onions /etc and did not set it up. I ended up setting this up with family as my baby shower was starting. They also brought tinfoil for the meat even though the warmers are supposed to have steel trays so the flimsy foil was falling into the water with the meat. The beans and rice had the correct trays for the warmers so this is how I know they brought the wrong trays for the meat. Also, part of the reason I picked them is because of homemade tortillas, but they literally brought a PACK OF STORE BOUGHT TORTILLAS. When the guy came to pick up the equipment I explained that I was frustrated with the problems above and that I confirmed via email the time and details the day prior and he replied "I don't read the emails". THIS WAS THE OWNER SAYING THIS! That was his response. Aside from the fact that someone did reply to the email confirming, what kind of owner says they don't read the company emails? No apology! Just "I didn't know". He agreed to take off some of the cost like the service fee (because I set it up) and the meats that fell in the water so I Venmo'd him on the spot. He said he would email a receipt to me but I took a photo of the updated invoice because this company is obviously disorganized. An hour later I started being harassed by his wife, Maria saying I owed money (for the items he adjusted) and when I told her to speak to her husband regarding the update she kept sending Venmo requests and harassing me via email calling me names. Also, they NEVER sent the receipt so luckily I took a photo for my own records that the price was adjusted. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! They did not take a deposit, which sort of scared me, but it all worked out great. They were on time, set up early and started cooking, and were ready to start serving when our guests arrived.
