First time visit, wasn't impressed with the service from the waitress Rebecca. I had the sangria, it was ok. I ordered the chips n salsa from another waitress, Rebecca was NO where to be found. The sauce definitely tasty. I received my dish, Chicken with Pipian, and was highly disappointed. The broccoli burnt, charred and inedible. The Pipian sauce was in the side of the dish and a huge piece of chicken dumped on top of coconut rice which contradicted the Pipian sauce. Did I mention the chicken had no salt or flavor? And it wasn't in the sauce because it was grilled separately. The second half of the boneless thigh chicken was hardened and inedible. I'm regretting paying $24 for the dish. After complaining to the hostess because Rebecca want around, (I wasn't asked How's it going. And then she tried to lie to my face that i said it was ok. I am in love with Tacuba - my husband and I came here on a Thursday after work, showing up early for an existing reservation. We were seated right away, and the interior drew me in right away. Lots of wood, gorgeous tile, and industrial looking chairs, with a bar situated in the center. The bar highlights all of the tequilas available, which had me in love from the get go. The next aspect that had me loving Tacuba was the service - our server Pilar came right over to take drink orders, and wisely convinced me to order the Pina Para La Nina cocktail (a skinny margarita with pineapple puree) in the double size, which comes inside of a pineapple - the regular drink is $12, it's $20 for the double, and she said most people get two drinks throughout the course of the evening (plus, the Instagram opportunities for the pineapple were gold). It was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully. Seriously, just get the pineapple. I cannot speak more highly about Pilar, as well as the whole staff - was surprised to see any review about rude, impolite service because we raved about the level of service and professionalism of the everyone we encountered at Tacuba. For food, we started with the guacamole, which was the perfect amount for two people (though I probably could have put one down on my own). For dinner, I ordered the avocado fries, because guac obviously isn't enough avocado, and the quesadilla de flor (burrata, zucchini flower, and a kale pesto). My husband ordered the fried Brussels sprouts and short rib quesadilla. We left absolutely nothing on our plates - everything was so delicious, so fresh, and so different from the Tex Mex that we're accustomed to. I wouldn't change a single thing about what was ordered - it was all that good. Also, one of my friends told me that she ordered from here on Seamless and it was also delicious, so keep that in your back pocket if you're in the mood for delicious food, but don't feel like leaving your apartment. Love this place but the owner insists on keeping the door open during 49 degree weather. The bartender said she doesn't mind because she has a heater, meanwhile a direct breeze is coming in and hitting my legs, and I was far from the door unlike most of the guests. People are wearing their coats inside. Why? I love the burrito I tried the tortilla soup and I'm pretty sure it is canned tomato soup with some toppings. The torta is stacked too high, nobody wants 3 layers of bread. It falls apart when you pick it up and I end up eating it with a fork. That's not a sandwich. Came here with a friend before a Broadway show and it was perfect We got the grand Cadillac to drink and with how fast they came out even though it was quite busy we were able to get a second order in and drank and still make to the show on time I got the shrimp tacos and he got the skirt steak. We each swapped one with the other so we each had both. They have Happy Hour Margaritas ($9-10) and Nachos ($10) until 6pm on saturdays (unsure of Friday & Sundays). The Food was extremely delicious and beautifully presented on the plate !!! The food here is great but a bit disappointed at their taco prices and steak tacos. The tacos are $15 for tiny appetizer sizes. You would need to order 6 to get full. The steak and cheese tacos were pretty salty and tiny which knocks off one star. Besides that, the other food is GREAT. Their steak is cooked wonderfully and is a big portion. It's served with a flavored rice and with green sauce packed with different flavors. Truly authentic Spanish steak. The shrimp entree with creamy rice also tastes amazing. I liked the rice with this entree more than the steak rice but they were both good. I wish there were a few more shrimp pieces since it's about $30 for the entree. The pepinada drink is my favorite!! It's light and refreshing with lovely cucumber hints and a Tajin rim. All of the drinks are presented nicely and about $14. The pineapple one comes with a pretty flower, definitely instagram worthy if that's what you're going for. Came here for dinner with my cousin and my oh my... so delicious! The atmosphere is chic and cozy. Great natural light coming from the skylight and the outdoor indoor theme is awesome (I personally am not an outdoor eater). We decided to start off with the guacamole with the side of spicy sauce and chips. For dinner, I got the chicken tacos with a side of rice and beans, and he got the pork tacos (I forgot what it's called but it had avocados in it) and man those tacos were delicious! The chicken tacos were so flavorful and tasty- it was amazing. Sadly the chips and guacamole can the same time during our meal but our waiter apologized and said it was on the house since they forgot about it. The drinks were amazing!!!! Went to this place only because the place we wanted to go to (Normas across the street) which by the way, if you can get into, go there instead. But it was an hour long wait and we saw this spot so we thought we'd check it out. I can honestly say this place should be embarrassed and ashamed of how small their entrées are. The tacos weren't even normal size tortillas. They literally used mini taco tortillas. I got the steak and I can say that I don't think that there was even an ounce of steak in my tacos. It was supposed to have avocado in there, and it looked like someone spit a piece of avocado into it, and they gave me the smallest wedge of a lime, and I asked three times for limes, and no one brought it . If you're gonna charge $20 for three tacos, at least put something in them, because that's just bogus. Oh, and their beans are not beans at all. It's literally just the Juice that comes from the beans. What a disappointment. I also got a frozen margarita, and it tasted like it got poured out of the sewer. Although the food I ordered had good flavors they were over cooked:( Ordered the oyster tomato based ceviche (I was feeling adventurous) although the tomato base grew on me the oysters weren't fresh and the shrimp was over cooked as if it was precooked (pink almost orange). The suadero (brisket) taco unfortunately was also well(over) cooked making the chewing experience last far too long. This was a shame because the masa is so freakin good. The dessert too was a miss :/ the meringue on the tres leches is yummy and thankfully not too sweet but something went wrong with the cake. First there was no lemon taste (to me. My partner claimed they tasted a hint but said they tasted it in the merengue...). People don't come here for the food. My partner and I came here once. Won't again. When we arrive, the greeter was less than friendly. An awkward first impression. We came to try out the food. I've lived in HK most of my adult life. But when we were told there was a wait for a table, and we were fine with that, and asked to sit at the bar for drinks - and I told the greeter "we don't drink" that's when the service part of our experience ended. It was basically an "oh...". The suddenly has a table for 2 against a wall. Uncomfortable for dinner. More like a "bar food" corner". The servers basically ignored us. It was obvious to us both. I was hoping the food would make the experience of the poor service make things equal out - but the food was even worse. I can't even remember what it was I ate because it was unmemorable in any way. But the whole experience makes this the one of very few spots on 9th Avenue I'll gladly avoid. Nobody comes here to eat. They come to drink.
