I got the steak tacos. They were decent and I'm glad that they came with complimentary rice and beans. The waitress asked me if I wanted cheese and didn't inform me it'd be additional money (only $1, but still, she didn't tell me that). My table shared chips and guac and as any Mexican restaurant in NYC the portion size of the guac is really small. We were able to ask for another round of chips, which was nice, but we had to add a lot of salt into both the guac and the chips. A little flavorless. Overall, I thought the tacos were alright, and given that there are so many Mexican restaurants around this area in Hell's Kitchen, I don't know if I'd say this is my favorite one. Such a great spot! We went pre theater and we loved it. The salsa was texturally light but bold in flavor. The hamachi was fresh, well portioned and well seasoned with a balance of citrus and heat. Not sure what all the hype is about this restaurant. Had an early dinner here on a Friday night with two friends. Crowds of people were coming in. Music is too loud to have a conversation. For drinks, I had the pepinada - was more sweet than spicy. Too much cucumber. Then I had just a regular spicy margarita which also wasn't very good - too much mix in it. Drinks were more expensive than what is on the menu online. For dinner, we shared guac which was tasty but small portion. We had the cheese dip dish which was weird - hard to pull apart. We shared the fish tacos and the brisket tacos. Brisket was good. Fish was okay. Very tiny. We also had the avocado fries which weren't that great. Came here when looking for something to eat and it looked promising from the outside. My BFF and I brought our kids to the city via train to see Wicked (again) and unfortunately someone jumped in front of the LIRR to off themselves???...we had to exit the train early (in Queens) and ended up missing too much of the show so we saved it for the next night. I can't quite remember how we ended up in Hell's Kitchen with 4 kids, but we did and decided on Mexican food for dinner. The restaurant is dark and trendy, but still pays homage to Mexico with decor. The service was really slow for sure, as they were probably understaffed. But they were personable. The server recommended up the chips and salsa for the table and Arroz con Camarones for me. They have tacos which is typical but then they have other entrees like roasted chicken or mole enchiladas. We tried the veggie nachos and mole enchiladas. The nachos were okay and had some sort of fake cheese on it which I didn't like. The mole enchiladas weren't that bad. They were smoky and not sweet. The margaritas were okay, could only taste lime not tequila. Now for the service. The server took our drink and food order and never showed up again. Loved this find in the Hell's Kitchen area of New York, free of the Times Square tourist traps. Tacuba had great service as everyone was friendly, accommodating, and gave great recommendations- even despite it being busy. They had expanded outdoor seating and so we were able to take in some of the sites and people watching - Bar Nine across the street had live music so we were able to benefit from that. Cocktails were great and the food was really tasty and reasonably priced. We enjoyed the mole enchiladas and octopus and chorizo tacos. Great find! read more

It has been few months since we visited this location. We were so disappointed about the food (even though we eat it). The aguachile has no flavor and the presentation was not the same like before, the sauce was so thick and not the way it's suppose to be. We only saw shrimp and few small pieces of I believe was lobster:. We also order the molcajete and it was so much sauce and 3 small pieces of steak. Before it used to have a bigger piece and better presentation I also ordered the sweet plantains and those were so bad, swimming in oil and overcooked. I wonder if they change the chef ? Having this spot so close to me is dangerous! I am a sucker for their tacos and chilaquiles!!! They are mmm mm good!!!! I really can't have enough of them. Let me warn you, their order of tacos are small despite being three but they are soooo scrumptious. Their chilaquiles are mouth watering good, which is a big deal for me because it's rare I come across chilaquiles that are that authentic and delicious. I had a great time at Tacuba with friends! The COVID setup was fantastic, with private cabanas for each party- it was a warm spot on a cold night. Came here on a date night and had only an average experience, at best. With plenty of reservation options available on a Saturday night, we took a table at 8pm with most of the restaurant filled. Ordered a few appetizers (including your standard chips with guacamole and salsa) and settled on a few entrees. Our waitress was very nice and immediately served us drinks including a frozen margherita and mojito. We could hear ourselves talk and managed to have enough time to breath before having our food finally arrive, a huge relief for dining in a place like NYC. But after ordering our drinks, it took us a while to order food given how overstretched the waitressing staff seemed to be. Their menu is fairly small with few selections for vegetarians besides the Chile Relleno entree- a dish containing roasted poblano peppers filled with quinoa, mushrooms and kale, Oaxaca cheese, crema, tomato and habanero salsa. Their appetizers include sopa de tortilla, queso fundido (melted Mexican cheeses, flour tortillas and tomatillo salsa) and taco options including the "chapulin" (with oxacan grasshoppers). Our dishes came in a timely fashion with fairly big portion sizes, but the quality just didn't feel up-to-par as other Mexican restaurants in the area. Finally for dessert, we were quite pleased to have had a second dessert "on the house" (chocolate cake with pop rocks) to complement our chalupas. Overall we ate well but the ingredients didn't taste the freshest and our service wasn't the greatest. This place is so fun for a weekend dinner. As soon as you walk in there is music playing and beautiful colorful decor everywhere. We walked in and were lucky to be quickly seated in one of the outdoor cabanas with no wait. The servers made sure to clean and sanitize the cabana before seating us. We decided to order the guacamole to start off with. The server asked if we wanted mild or spicy and we chose spicy! It ended up being pretty mild despite having some jalapeño in it. The guacamole was served with chips and salsa. I definitely appreciated that the guacamole and salsa were fresh and homemade, and did not taste like something that came in a package. For drinks we both ordered frozen margaritas: regular and passion fruit. They were well made and were pretty strong. For entrees, we chose the steak burrito and torta. They are both large portions, but I felt the torta was a better value because it had more steak. The burrito had more filler like beans and rice. Lovely spot that we made reservations for a pre-show meal. We need the energy and some drinks before a concert at Terminal 5 and my friends found this spot nearby. They were able to accommodate our last minute change in reservations with ease and sat us at our table the moment we walked in. Rarely does that ever happen! The taco was pretty good, a little on the dry side. For sides we went with the Brussel sprouts and the plantains. Those plantains were amazing! The Brussel sprouts were very Brussel sprout-y. Lovely restaurant with indoor or outdoor dining, the staff through and through is so attentive, nice, and friendly. We didn't have a reservation but were able to be walked in and seated no issue. This food was disgusting, and the service was terrible. Prior to 2020, Tacuba was one of the more refined Mexican restaurants in Hells Kitchen. Last night proved to me that things have changed. The enchiladas were bitter and covered in a grotesque sauce. The cheese on my friends tacos had gone bad, and the chicken in my replacement dish was not seasoned. The service took about 30 minutes between drinks and ordering. Then, they brought me a replacement dish after the party had finished eating, I asked for it to go and that took another 20 minutes. Rozena got herself the fish tacos which were some of the best I've had since moving from the west coast. Delicious tacos and they don't skimp on the tequila! Love the rustic decor and groovy music. We started with the guacamole, which was super creamy, tasty, and just the right amount of spicy. Generous potion for two and the chips tasted like they were fresh out of the fryer. So salty and crispy . The margaritas were sensational! Nice and strong, flavorful, and the tajin salt added the perfect kick! However, my favorite parts of this fiesta de sabores were the chorizo and pulpo tacos. What an amazing combination!! What I love from this place is the food and the time. I always have a good experience. However, today my dinner, it wasn't that pleasant. It was my first time sitting at the bar for dinner. My friend and I ordered only food, not drinks. The bartender who was a lady never came to check how my friend and I were doing, there were also two other bartenders and they as well never asked if we needed anything. It seems like they only check on people who order drinks. Like I said food and time it was great, service not great. I will come back again but I will not sit at the bar. I like Tacuba a lot, I've been a handful of times and have always enjoyed the experience. Their food is delicious, I really like their brunch options and their tacos. Pictured is the suadero, served with rice and beans. Delicious with a tiny hint of spiciness, can't go wrong. And the tangy house sauce they serve with their tortilla chips is awesome. Their margaritas are another draw, as the place seems to pride itself on its tequila selection. I have yet to try a margarita I didn't like, and I've had several on different visits. The space is great, very open and airy, with lots of light, especially in the back. Service is solid, if not a touch slow sometimes. So why four stars? As with a lot of my NYC dineout experiences, I can't get over the sticker shock. Some of the menu items are just too expensive, it feels like there are limited options if you're trying to eat at less than $25 per person (without drinks). Took a shopping trip to the upper Eastside. I decided to walk around Manhattan aimlessly. I ended up in Hells kitchen and stumbled upon this eatery. I went into Tacuba with high hopes of a 5 star experience given their menu and vast selection of tequilas. If it were just about the food and drinks, then Tacuba did not disappoint. The party in our mouths should have translated to our table; however, we barely had any space where we were seated by the bar to fit all of the platos and bebidas. Forks kept falling on the ground as we tried to rearrange everything like a game of Tetris. We should have been seated at a proper table for our group of 3 especially since I took the time to make a reservation noting our family night out. I didn't come to realize that where we were seated was actually meant for people who wanted to drink and have snacks until 30 mins into our service still waiting for our drink order to be taken. We felt forgotten until this treasure named Rebeca happened to pass by our table and hear our call for help. She was amazing. Managers note this - Rebeca made our experience what it should have been from the get go. KEEP THIS WOMAN!!! While other staff ignored us or dismissed any questions we had about Tacuba trio options, she listened and made drink suggestions accordingly after the fact. Her recommendation of the Pepinada was on POINT! She apologized for the lack of space for us to enjoy our meals, removed things that didn't need to be there, replaced the things that SHOULD have been there, and made sure our meals were not delayed like our drinks and appetizers had been. She came over to wish us a Merry Christmas with the warmest smile and complimentary shots of Espolon. She showed genuine care that made us feel welcome. A very solid lunch spot in midtown in you are looking for some great Mexican food. I highly recommend the shrimp over rice with Cajun sauce or the steak over avocado, rice, and arugula. The only issue that I had with the restaurant was the price. Definitely not a cheap meal, especially for Mexican: the small guacamole was about ten bucks and both entrees that I mentioned above were over twenty bucks. read more
