    OMG, what an amazing find. Food is so unique and flavorful and cooked perfection. Our server Aviev was amazing and knowledgeable as well. Plus it was nice and warm in there on a chilly day I definitely be back

    The food was amazing. This location has been so many things but it has never been this and that's.......delicious! I travel to Oakland for Ethiopian food and I don't ever need to cross the bridge again. My favorite dish was everything that was served. Delicious! So glad I took a chance. And the babygirl that served us was beyond delightful to talk to.

    It'll make you full and I love how it's vegan AND gluten free friendly. Their combo dishes are my favorite and it looks not only colorful and pretty but also delicious. There are street parking or park in the restaurant complex near for free. I take my friends/guests there.

    We eat Ethiopian food often, and Queen of Sheba in Sacramento is one of our go-tos. Unfortunately, Taffach was a completely different experience -- and not in a good way. FOOD The sambusas were inedible -- overcooked, flavorless, and hard enough to break a tooth. They were paired with two sauces that reminded us of honey mustard from a squeeze bottle and sweet and sour sauce borrowed from an Asian fusion restaurant. The vegan combo and shiro wat, normally one of our favorite orders, were the pièce de résistance of disappointment. The injera wasn't nearly sour enough, the lentils were mealy and undercooked, the shiro wat tasted like liquified baked beans, and the red and yellow lentil dishes were strangely off in flavor, expertly under-seasoned to imperfection. Even the "hot sauce" tasted like grainy powder mixed with water. I even considered taking it home to doctor up with my own spices, but it was beyond saving. SERVICE If the meal had simply been mediocre, I wouldn't have bothered writing this review. But when I politely explained to the waiter that the flavor wasn't agreeing with us and asked to take it off the bill (after one small bite of each element of the combo plate), the manager came out and turned it into a spectacle. She insisted the dish was "world famous," that "everyone loves it," and that it was their "special blend of spices." I told her I was glad others enjoyed it, but it just wasn't prepared well. She then told me I needed to read the menu before ordering -- which was insulting, given that we know this dish well and order it regularly elsewhere. She even claimed she used to work at Queen of Sheba and that this was their special take on it. No matter what I said, she refused to accept that I simply didn't like the food. I finally told her flat out that it was disgusting and would be reflected in my review. PAYMENT To add insult to injury, they only charged me for the sambusas (barely edible as they were), but their Toast Tab QR system wouldn't accept Apple Pay, despite the receipt and a prior phone call confirming that it would. I had to go to the register just to get out of there. OVERALL What should have been a pleasant dinner turned into a truly memorable experience -- for all the wrong reasons. Between the terrible food, the argumentative manager, and the payment hassle, this is a place I cannot recommend to anyone.

    I was excited for Davis to finally have an Ethiopian restaurant. They have outdoor seating so I was able to bring my dog. Wanted to try a bunch on my first visit so I got a combo platter for 2 (for one!) Chicken tibs: B Beef tibs: C Misir Kik Wot (Red Lentil): A- Gomen (Collard Greens and Spinach): B Key Sire Wot (Beets and Potato): C+ Standouts were the chicken tibs and red lentils. They both had great flavor and were very pleasant to eat with the injera. The injera is a bit more sour than I'm used to. The beef tasted fine, but was not very tender.

    My husband and I stopped by here for dinner on a whim after a long workday and as someone who lived/worked in the East Bay, I'm so glad that we have Ethiopian here! When we entered, the service was immediately warm and friendly. We were promptly seated and quickly serviced. The restaurant patio is so adorable and gives you a cute little street view with dinner. We got the meat sambusa and 2-person combo with red lentils, collard greens, and yellow peas.The food itself was good. Everything was a little salty for my taste, but that's just a personal preference. Spices and seasonings were good, portions were amazing. The veggie dishes really were the star of the show along side the injera. Injera was so solid. A little bit fermented, nice and fluffy, and such a generous amount. Highly recommend for those who want to try Ethiopian food or those looking for an authentic experience.

    Friendly staff, reasonably priced, many vegan and vegetarian options, huge portions. We ordered the veggie sambusa which was crunchy, dense and paired well with their sauces. The Taffach Vegetarian Combo is huge and very filling. The section in the middle is spicy while the remaining are mild and pretty similar tasting. Overall worth trying and recommend to anyone who has never tried Ethiopian cuisine.

    It was my close friend's birthday gathering and she wanted to try the new and first Ethiopian food in town so naturally we found ourselves in Taffach on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was atheistically pleasing and cozy especially outside with the pretty lights and good conversation floating in the air. As far as service goes, the servers were super nice and gave us suggestions and answered all our questions about the menu. Since we were there to celebrate and catch up we didn't notice the time passing by but we did get our drinks order less than five minutes after we ordered! I really liked my cold Sorrel Hibiscus Tea. This is my first Ethiopian food experience so I don't have a lot to compare it to however we really liked it and my friends who were there with me have tried some amazing Ethiopian restaurants in NY and Sacramento. We'll definitely come back for the Veggie Sambusa--so crispy and the filling was so flavorful! Loved it! We ended up ordering the Taffach Special Combo that serves 4-5 people and it was more than enough for the five of us. It was an experience eating the injera bread and we used the spoons to scoop the dishes into our plates! Everything was so tasty and rich in spices--tasted like the labor of love. It is on the pricey side--justified because of how much work goes into preparing the food and it is a one of a kind restaurant in town!

    FINALLY! I've been waiting for Taffach to open up in Davis. My group had a wonderful time dining here! First thing, they're currently in their soft opening and they are BUSY. It's a popular spot, so clear your schedule and bring good company to yap over their honey wine while you wait for your food to come out. The patio is so lovely, with pretty string lights hanging up above. There's also indoor dining space as well, but with the nights getting warmer as we head into summer, I think you're missing out if you don't dine outside! And the food! I recommend getting a combo platter that you share with your friends. Absolutely delicious. As much as I loved the chicken, lamb, and beef dishes, the Veggie dishes were SO GOOD! You may think you don't like lentils, but you just haven't had them simmered and spiced to perfection. Also, though it's traditional to eat with your hands (using the injera bread as a scoop for each dish), they do ask if you want utensils! So no pressure there. We'll definitely be back!

    I will say that they have the most tender gored gored I have ever had at any ethiopian restaurant I have tried throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento. I cannot speak on the service as this was a take out order and I sent my kids inside to pay and pick it up. However, these same kids came here a few weeks ago and ordered in. They said they waited about an hour for their food. Today we ordered the meat and veggie sambusas as well as the pictured gored gored. The sambusas were very fresh and crispy. I prefered the veggie over the meat and my kids loved them both, having tried them previously when they visited. I would not say they were highly seasoned though. It was more like texture of the filling and the crunch from the wrapping, but no significant spices stood out on my palate. Unfortunately, I have the same opinion of the gored gored. It's just the meat floating in the butter, which was delightful but there is really no taste to it. It is not well seasoned at all. My daughter, who loves gored gored also agreed that it was lacking in flavor. This is the second time we've tried it. They brought some home to me the first time when they went alone. We waited with great anticipation for the opening of this restaurant. Excited to not have to drive into the Bay Area or Sacramento anymore. It saddens me that our experience was as such. I hope overtime as they get acclimated to being open, they will experiment more with spice to enhance the flavor of the food. Even the veggie platter my kids had was lacking in flavor. I did not like how it looked when they brought it home from their visit so I didn't taste it. I wish them well and will try them out again in the fall. Hopefully we will have a different experience.

    I had the pleasure of trying Taffach Ethiopian Restaurant the day after their grand opening, and I'm so excited to have discovered them early on! We ordered the medium combo, which is meant for two people--but honestly, I feel it could easily serve three as we ended up having a good portion of leftovers. It came with beef tibs, tofu tibs, and three veggie entrees: brown lentils, collard greens & spinach, and beets & potatoes. Normally, the combo includes both chicken and beef tibs, and you can sub lamb for an additional charge. They had run out of both chicken and lamb when we visited. We were still content with what we got! Each dish had its own unique flavor, and most of them were tasty. If I had to rank them (most fav to least fav): 1. Collard greens & spinach - perfectly seasoned and comforting 2. Beef tibs - tender and packed with flavor 3. Beets & potatoes - earthy and slightly sweet 4. Brown lentils - hearty and filling 5. Tofu tibs - a bit under-seasoned compared to everything else There's both indoor and outdoor seating, and the patio is a great place to sit--especially as the weather warms up. The staff were super friendly, attentive, and took the time to explain the menu items to us, which we appreciated.

    I'm excited to see a new Ethiopian restaurant open up here in Davis since it's a great addition to the local dining scene. The restaurant just opened this past Saturday, and I was looking forward to trying it out. Since the weather was nice, I chose to sit outside on the porch, which was quieter and more comfortable than inside. The staff was very friendly and helpful in answering all of our questions about the food. I ended up ordering the "Combo: Serves Two Guests with Beef Tibs, Tofu Tibs, Brown Lentils, Beets and Potato, and Collared Greens and Spinach." They had run out of the chicken and lamb tibs, so we went with the tofu tibs instead -- something I didn't mind since they were a new spot. Overall, most of the food we had was flavorful, especially the beef, vegetables, and lentils. That said, I found the tofu tibs to be a bit bland and lacking the depth of flavor found in the other dishes (I wouldn't order this again if I had the choice). The food presentation was amazing and made for some great pictures. However, this place still has a few things to work on, which is expected for a new restaurant, but I'm hopeful they'll continue to improve. I'm looking forward to coming back and seeing how things evolve as they get more business.

    I wish I could say I enjoyed this restaurant, but where is it ever acceptable to have a 45 minute wait for an appetizer to come out, then an additional 20 minute wait for the rest of the entrees? That's on top of a 10-15 minute wait just to get your order taken. I came with my partner on a Saturday night and, sure it was busy, but waiting 1 hour 15 minutes for your meal is insane. It's painfully obvious that nobody working knew what they were doing. Tables in our section and the section next to us that had been seated before us were also frustrated, and we could overhear them voicing those frustrations with the 2-3 overworked waitstaff they had for the whole restaurant. One of the servers, when stopped by the table next to us, even voiced his own frustrations with how management was running the business. Poor guy was stressed out! Out of the 3 servers, only 1 of them stopped by to let us know our entrees were coming out shortly (after already waiting 1 hour). If you can't handle the flow of customers and orders, be transparent and let us know the estimated wait time for food. I would've dined somewhere else if I knew how long it was going to take. We'd even had after dinner plans for dessert, but those were cancelled because of how long dinner ended up taking. We got there at 8:10, and left around their closing time. Was the food even worth the wait? No. It wasn't. There's better Ethiopian food in Sacramento, go there instead.

Unfortunately I bookmarked this place because ratings were high but it was lacking in almost all areas: customer service, ambience and food. Tried the vegetarian combo plate but Holy spicy Batman, 3 out of 5 were way too spicy like at a 3 Alarm level. This cook doesn't like vegetables because they feel they need to add shit load of chili to cover up real vegetable flavors. Too bad, the cabbage was the only vegetable dish that was good and like typical Ethiopian food is supposed to be. I've never seen or tasted other dishs prepared the same way elsewhere as they do here. Spinach is spicy here, not elsewhere, lentils are half cooked here. As for the other brown mush, it's extremely spicy and inedible. While asking for add on, ala carte, this woman wasn't willing to accommodate. No one is asking for free but not willing to accept an extra order off menu isn't the smartest business decision. Lastly their overhead menu prices aren't up to date and I wasn't told so. I asked after I was charged why the price discrepancy and she simply said the overhead menu isn't up to date. Well yes it costs money to update so invest in a monitor where you can adjust the price easily, but this needs to be done because it's dishonest to your customers! Not greeted with the usual warmth of the culture, so I'm only left with the impression of the Unkind Bean experience.
