Well, where to start... I'm starting a new adventure and possible career change and was in need of new "work" clothes. (Right now, my work clothes consist of hospital scrubs.) Other than that, my "wardrobe" consisted of t-shirts, cargo shorts, jeans, a few off-the-shelf dress shirts, and two "Mr. Warehouse" suits... I started doing some research on how best to spend my money and get the best value when starting the foundation of my first real wardrobe... I found a YouTuber that made a lot of sense to me in his videos about bespoke clothing. He explains the value of material, fit, and attention to detail that only a bespoke clothier can provide. I was convinced now that if I was going to spend any more money on clothing that it would be on quality, timeless, and well fitted items that I would have for years to come. Fit is paramount in my opinion. I am a larger male in both height and width ;) and have NEVER found shirts that fit me... If I go to a department store and find a shirt that fits my neck size it will drown me like a canvas tent. The diameter of the sleeves is so large that raising my arms causes the shirt to untuck from my pants every time I lift my arms. So frustrating! On top of that, the quality of fabric (or should I say lack of) is so poor that I might get a few months of use before the collar and sleeve ends start to deteriorate and becomes unwearable. This is where I decided to put my trust into the hands of Chelsea, my personal tailor at Tailor Cooperative... Chelsea made me feel so comfortable during my initial visit! I felt like a fish out of water when I first walked into the shop because this was a totally new experience for me. That feeling was short lived after meeting her and her friendly and professional demeanor... She took time to get to know me first and found out what I had in mind in starting my first, proper wardrobe. As we looked over fabrics and discussed design ideas, I was overwhelmed by her knowledge, expertise, and ability to truly listen to my questions and walk me through the process. I was then measured from head to toe. I remember being "measured" at other places that I have shopped in the past and it consisted of 4-5 measurements at best... This fitting was on an entirely new level and I knew that I was starting down the path to clothing nirvana! I have been to my second fitting and received my items this week. (Thanks to Adam for filling in on the second fitting for Chelsea when she was out of town. He was equally impressive!) I could not be more impressed! So there I was, less than two months away from my wedding and began my journey to find a three piece suit. Having never owned a suit previously and knowing nothing about them I made my way to the Men's Warehouse. Needless to say if felt like the McDonald's of Men's Wear, if you could even call it that. I walked out discouraged and without attire. After doing some digging I found out about Tailor Cooperative. I decided to give it a go. My first interaction was making my appointment over the phone. I was asked detailed questions about my event, what I wanted, and what my expectations of the product would be. My first appointment was scheduled shortly after. I made my way into Tailor Cooperative and immediately was greeted by George and Ralph. The shop was extremely neat, organized and visually brilliant. Sample product was arranged throughout the area for the customer to view. George sat down with me and we began. Did I mention I knew nothing about suits? Well don't worry, George was extremely knowledgable and humble about the process and walked me through the design, fabrics, cuts, collars, stitching, you name it. From the overall style of the suit down to the exact thread color used, George walked me through every step of the way to put together exactly what I was looking for. Throughout the process he answered all my questions professionally and provided exceptional insight on areas I lacked knowledge upon. When all was said and done, George had helped me put together the exact suit imagined wearing to my wedding. I attended my first fitting several weeks later and Every piece off the suit was gone over meticulously by both George and Ralph. To me the suit looked great, it fit great. But George and Ralph wanted to make further alterations to make it perfect. I returned for my final fitting and was blown away. The suit fit perfect. It looked great, it felt great and I immediately felt proud to have my first suit. It was a work of art. George and Ralph spent extra time with me showing me how to tie ties, and trying on several shirts to come up with the best color combination. From my first phone call to my final fitting, Tailor Cooperative exceeded my expectations throughout the entire process. Dress clothing and formal attire have always been uncomfortable and binding for me so the prospect of being an attorney and living in a suit for the rest of my life filled me with dread. I decided to get a custom suit because, while not being the most fashion forward person, I do have particular likes and dislikes and I felt like I deserved to give myself something that looks and feels good. I met with the men at the Tailor Cooperative and it became very evident from the get-go that this was the perfect place for me. Surprisingly, the process was not overwhelming and I had a lot of fun selecting cloth, buttons, lining, and style. I am a woman that identifies as a woman, but I've never actually liked the fit and look of women's professional clothing so I opted for a masculine 3-piece suit. I was never made to feel embarrassed or weird at this decision and in fact, the guys at the Tailor Cooperative gave me the confidence I needed to rock that herringbone jacket-vest-pant combo! It went off to be made and then I came for a second fitting where we made some minor adjustments on the pant and vest length. I could not believe how comfortable the suit was and it wasn't binding and uncomfortable and I actually LOVED wearing it. I was also astonished to realize how poorly a lot of my other clothes fit/felt and wish I could just live in custom tailored clothing! If you're buying formal wear and want to look AND feel good, you really do need a custom suit! Derek was great working with my schedule to find time that I could go in for fittings. I worked primarily with George for my suit and he was amazing dialing in my personal style and balancing it with the traditional formal wear I would need for school, court rooms, and job interviews. I also had equally valuable input from Ralph that made me feel like every decision I made was spot on. As a trans man--especially one early in his transition--shopping for clothing is a stressful event. Going to get a custom suit? Even more so. But my experience with Tailor Cooperative was so validating and affirming. When I went to the shop, I walked into a warm, welcoming environment. I was offered drinks. My fitter sat down with me, and we had an in-depth conversation about exactly what I wanted out of a suit. When I wasn't sure about something, or wanted a suggestion, my fitter wasn't condescending but instead was excited to share his opinion and his knowledge with me. And when we got to the actual measurements and how I wanted the suit to fit, my need for a male pattern as the base was never questioned. When my suit was ready, it fit perfectly. I'm a little curvy, so I was nervous about it fitting right in the seat. But the people at Tailor Cooperative must be magic because we didn't have to make a single alteration. When I saw myself in the mirror, I almost cried. I had a perfectly-tailored suit, and I looked and felt incredible. Everyone in the shop was as excited as I was about the suit. Tailor Cooperative was my first attempt at buying bespoke clothing. I chose them based on their rave reviews and reasonable pricing. My experience with them took longer than I anticipated, but it was well worth the time and effort. I ordered several items at once, and I had very specific expectations for how I wanted the items to look and fit. Because of several changes and adjustments that I requested, and also because of a few mistakes on their part, it took several fitting appointments and re-makes over the period of a few months to get things right. While I was slightly frustrated by some of the mistakes, I was very impressed with how the professionals at Tailor Cooperative dealt with those mistakes, and how they treated me overall as a customer. From the very first visit I felt welcomed and comfortable, and I was very surprised how much one-on-one attention I and the other clients received (and at some visits, I had multiple tailors helping me). When I kept bringing pants and jackets back for alterations, they never once acted annoyed that I was again requesting a change, but were quick to help and friendly as ever. If you're looking for a custom piece (or several pieces) of formal men's wear that will make your friends, family, and boss all say "Wow! That guy REALLY knows how to dress!" then look no further! Tailor Cooperative built my custom tuxedo for my wedding from the ground up. The friendly, helpful staff was very involved in making sure I got exactly what I wanted. I showed up and they offered me a drink while we picked out the various fabrics and patterns that I wanted to use to build a one of a kind yet still classic ensemble. Once I had selected each pattern, texture, and fabric we took my measurements. This process was very thorough which left me confident that my tux would come back perfect! In a few short weeks, I came back into the shop for a fitting. As usual the gentlemen there offered me a drink while we discussed the fit and any possible alterations that we would make to the piece. If you live in Salt Lake City then you know well it has been nearly impossible to buy a suit unique and that fits perfect. Yes, you can go to London or NYC and get one -- but -- not SLC. So I was very surprised when I was given a gift certificate by my wife to have a new suit personally made for me at the Tailor Cooperative in downtown SLC. My surprise went to shock when I visited their place and began looking through all the potential fabrics for a one of a kind suit I wanted to create. I quickly moved to extremely pleased being taken care of by George Spencer at the Cooperative with his meticulous measuring and in depth discussions about exact pockets, lining, vest length, etc... Everyone who has bought a suit off "the rack" knows it does NOT fit like a glove and so always needs tailoring. The problem in that equation is your limited by the selection in the small number of high end men's stores in SLC. Tailor Cooperative provides the answer. I will NOT buy another suit in Salt Lake City unless I go to Tailor Cooperative and choose the exact fabric and style I want, and then proceed to have it made to fit like a glove. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a well-fitted suit but doesn't have thousands of dollars to spend. I don't think of myself as a very fancy guy, but I like this place. The minute you walk into Tailor Cooperative, it feels like you're transported into an old-fashioned club. The guys are friendly, offer you a drink and invite you to relax. When it comes to the actual suit shopping, they make it so easy. They take all your measurements to make sure the cut is perfect, and they'll walk you through all the different fabrics. If you've got something in mind, they listen and don't try to upsell you on a costly fabric you don't like. Prices are fantastic, comparable to a "good" suit at Men's Wearhouse or Jos A Bank, but the fit is so much better. They know how to design to your body shape. And the customization is really cool if you're into it. If not, they'll make suggestions for you. They really take care of you -- I needed the pants a little longer after the first fitting, and the tailor accidentally had them shortened. They corrected this quickly after the second fitting when we figured it out, and they got them back to me with express service so we didn't lose any time. The Tailor Cooperative is far and away the best place to get your bespoke suit, work attire or formal wear. Their custom clothing design experience is top notch on a global, high fashion level. This is exactly what the greater SLC area has been missing and I'm excited to have a new custom tailor in town. I originally approached Tailor Cooperative to upgrade my work wardrobe, but after the first visit ended up walking away with a new blazer, 5 custom shirts and a 3-piece bespoke suit for my wedding this fall. I'll admit, I was skeptical. But, "Support Local" right? So, with some trepidation, I scheduled me first fitting. The experience the first time was somewhat surreal. So many options I had never considered. The pockets, the buttons, the lining, the lapel, etc. I ended up with a 3-piece suit that I just loved. It's a little more snug that I'm used to off the rack, but I've never had anything custom fitted before. I love the way it looks. I also love the details like the extra fabric at the back of the pants where your shoes rub, the sweat pads in the under arm, all the pockets. I got a ton of compliments on the suit, which is not a usual thing for me. I've since bought 3 shirts that I'm also very happy with and am planning on getting a sport coat made. The 6-8 week turnaround needs to be kept in mind if you have a deadline, but it's worth planning for. Update: I stopped by today to get my suit adjusted. I'd lost some weight over the past 3 months. I was told the alternations were free of charge. I was floored. All part of buying a suit from these nice people. My husband thought it would be nice for me to have a taylor-made Vietnamese traditional dress made for me while on holiday in Vietnam. I was so blown away by how fast they were and their fantastic workmanship. It took about a minute to get all my measurements and despite only coming in later in the day it was still ready the next day. I was so impressed by how smooth the whole process was! Originally the material I chose would not have been appropriate because I hadn't considered that it would have been heavy and not been breathable for the style but Tu advised me straight away. It is really apparent that they know their stuff here and they don't just rush out a product, they are fast but they really ensure that it is done well and that you will be happy when it is done. A few months ago I came here and got my measurements taken. I left a good review saying that they know their stuff and is a good place to get a suit. Now I got my suit back and was able to try it on. To say I am pleased with their product and service is an understatement. If "How I Met Your Mother" was filmed in Salt Lake City, Tailor Cooperative would've been where Barney Stinson goes to get his suits. I have had various jobs in the financial services industry to where every day for the past 5 years I have worn a dress shirt to work. I have bought all of them at Men's Warehouse for about $60-80. The second I tried on the shirt that they made for me, I realized what I was missing out on. The way the shirt feels amazing. I bought the suit for my wedding, but when I put on the dress shirt the first thing I did was head over to the prices to see what it would be like to get more dress shirts. My girlfriend got me an amazing gift for Christmas this year. I had the opportunity of getting measured for a custom fitted suit designed to the contours of my body. Not only were Adam and Ralph experienced in their suggestions, but they also took the time to explain every detail of the suit. I had the option of choosing from any type of fabric, to adding canvass material to the inside of the suit in order to add a more structured appearance and longer lifespan. I was also able to choose the amount of buttons I wanted and their specific color and much more. The entire experience was very enjoyable and in a comfortable setting. It was more than I had expected. After kicking back a few local beers, I had a fun time choosing every little detail of the suit and will definitely be returning to buy my girlfriend a suit and she cannot wait. I live in Seattle, Washington, but it is important enough for me to travel to SLC to work with the good people at the Tailor Cooperative (TC). A few years ago, my Seattle-based tailor retired. I tried the online custom clothiers, and had varying degrees of success, but what I really want is to work with a team that knows what they are doing, and help guide me. While on other business, I stopped into the Tailor Cooperative, and I am very glad I did! I greatly enjoy working with the people there, and they have helped me move beyond my rather stodgy, traditional, american-style (fit) clothing, into something slightly more modern and kind of pushing my clothing perception boundaries, a little. Quality of materials is exceptional and fit specialists curate a remarkable experience whenever you are in the shop. Sequan is a brilliant fit specialist. She is very professional, communicates everything I need to know and she is keenly focused on all of the little details that define a perfect fit according to me. ('You are the one wearing the garment after all' I've heard her say.) In the spirit of full transparency, I had a bit of a rocky start with a less-experienced fit specialist. He was professional and very well-meaning (he even came to my house once to save me a trip to the shop), but we had to remake some things. My overall experience has still been a 5 star experience. Sequan made adjustments to some of my measurements and my last few fittings have been awesome. She and Adam went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. I loved the suit I got from Tailor Cooperative. I got a custom 3 piece suit for my wedding and it looked and fit flawless. My wedding photos turned out awesome thanks to the suit. George was my Tailor and he did a great job and guiding me when I had questions or needed suggestions but giving me enough room to make the suit exactly what I wanted. I also order two white shirts to go along with it, and they are my favorite white shirts and fit my physique perfectly. They are my favorite to wear. I order one button up and one French cuff, however they made two button ups for me on accident. So they rushed order my French cuff and I was able to get it the day before my wedding. And they let me keep both button up shirts, also on top of that they threw in some extra pocket squares and socks for the mix up and stress. Phenomenal customer service and excellent expertise. I am so mad for waiting for so long. The thought of designing my own suit was a bit overwhelming. So I allowed myself to put it off for months. When I finally did, I cant believe how simple it was. Everything came out amazing. I am a broad shouldered, warm bodied guy. I hate wearing suites. I feel like I just put on uncomfortable layer, after layer. The shirts they made for me, the bamboo blend, it is NOT coming off for sex! STUPID COMFORTABLE! Having a vest with a collar allows me to take my jacket off as early as possible, while maintaining a clean, cool, professional look. I have a narrow waist, and a "prominent seat". Having pants that do not NEED a belt, but still accentuating my curves, cannot believe I made it this long without them! I love the culture and atmosphere!
