Taka is a Merrick sushi haven! This is one of those 'overdue reviews' since I've been coming here for years; it was last night's meal, though, that inspired me to type up their praises, once and for all, hehe. I am a sushi fanatic, and we shared the sushi and sashimi platter for two that was SUPER fresh and silky and smooth and honestly just what the doctor ordered, to say the very least. We were also able to choose two special rolls off their menu for this platter as well, and it was all so luxuriously lovely and accented by wasabi mayo for that extra special touch. Plus, I must shoutout their yellowtail sashimi in this platter! They paired it with delicate jalapeños, which was a treat since I know that can be a whole appetizer in and of itself. Speaking of appetizers, we also indulged in their tasty rock shrimp tempura (the shrimp was such good quality, and it's hard to go wrong with spicy mayo) and their special Taka roll that featured salmon, spicy tuna, avocado, and lobster salad... and it was topped with jalapeño for the most PERFECT bite. The ambiance at Taka is cozy with mood lighting, too, and I think it's safe to say that this Asian Fusion restaurant is very high on my favorites list. Always such a hit and absolutely love that they take my gluten allergy (celiac) very seriously! Whenever I'm craving sushi for dinner (more often than not), I don't even question whether the ~20 minute drive is worth it. If you ever went to taka before the pandemic, you know their happy hour was fire. They stopped it for a while but it's back. I was so excited, but it's not as good as it was. They took a lot of items off their menu and they also raised the prices by a lot. We sat at the bar and took a while to take our order. I will say once we did get the sushi it was very fresh and well presented. We got the Black Angel Roll, the twins, sex on the beach, and crunchy spicy tuna. For drinks we got he lychee martini and the zombie which were also very good. It's still worth it as I don't know many good sushi happy hours around these parts but I wish they had the old menu. Came here for the first time was not impressed. Definitely don't get the merrick Mall roll unless you like soggy cabbage/lettuce in your roll. I think our waitress was on like speed or some thing she was running around dropping things off taking orders but never asking if there was anything else we needed or if we had any questions just running off ....at the end she came back and asked if we'd like dessert , we said yes, but she was so quick to run off. Meanwhile they close at 9:30 to get us out of there so when we left, we were chatting in the parking lot and noticed not only did they leave at 9:30 sharp but another couple walked out at the same time with them. How rude to not even allowed that last couple to walk out before them, I just think the owners are rude or whoever runs the restaurant on a Tuesday night is super rude and they have no manners in terms of allowing customers to take their time and finish eating when the restaurant closes at 9:30 not 9:18. They do not make You feel like they want customers . Meanwhile it was a hot night and you should be grateful people even want to eat here cause outdoor dining is where it's at . The manager/ hostess with ash blonde highlighted hair, had a horrible attitude and did not greet us which is fine however a couple that's privileged came in she greet them nicely with a big nice smile. My 9 yo daughter asked me why was the lady so rude to us? I said I don't know maybe cause we look poor ? or we are not the privileged people ? I don't know what was it but this establishment have some rude workers the hostess or manager. Her attitude absolutely changed when other privileged people walked in. I am not a person of color, so I don't know what was it picks and choose who she should be nice to ? I am not going to give my business to such establishment. My bill was $40.20 gave her a $50 she decided not to give back the change which was 60 cents which is not much but she didn't even ask if I wanted it which I thought was rude , is that how establishments are now ? Keep the change without asking ? don't know any establishment that does that. This lounge is amazing! It's located in a strip mall so you might not know its there, but it's a gem in the rough! Bartender Teddy makes them quick and strives to be fun. They have psychic Wednesday's with a special that comes with dinner and Kareoke Thursdays. Happy hour M-F 5-7. Delicious zombies and really great sushi. If you want to try it out sit by the bar and order some sinfully good values off of their happy hour menu. Waitstaff was great when I sat to dine, very accommodating. I came here for lunch with a friend recently. The decor is trendy inside, with leather booths and different lighting. We both ordered the three roll lunch special which came with our choice of three rolls, soup and salad for $11 ( two roll options for $9). Food is pretty good. I didn't love the miso soup, it was a little under seasoned but the salad was very good and the sushi was fresh and delicious. The sushi pieces were pretty substantial and the spicy mayo on the side had a nice flavor. The tea was also pretty good. I recommend this place and do plan on returning again. read more
