Taka remains a long-standing favorite in the Gaslamp area of downtown San Diego. The fish is fresh, the menu expansive, and the restaurant offers a nice dining experience both inside and outside. As many sushi restaurants come and go this one remains a constant.

I had the omasake experience here and it was amazing. If you're a sushi lover, I highly recommend you to do the omasake. We were seated at the bar right in front of chef Taka himself. It came with an appetizer, 10 plus pieces of sushi, miso soup, and dessert. I was so full. This personalized experience was one of a kind. I will definitely be back. Everything was fresh and unique. People did tend to rush and sit at the bar when the restaurant had opened. But it's big enough for large groups as well.

Really fresh delicious high quality sushi at a reasonable price. It's pretty small inside so not great for large groups of more than 6 I would say. Our server was friendly and attentive. My husband and I came for dinner on a Friday night and were seated immediately. Very fast service. We were in and out in an hour.

Omakase sushi was delicious and filling. I was seated at the bar with Chef Taka himself! My favorite was the SD uni, so plump and juicy. I could barely make it to the end, I was stuffed! Everyone was extremely attentive. I LOVE that there were hangers for your bag under the bar. There is outdoor seating, but keep in mind street smells (exhaust, sewage, smokers) that might ruin the taste.

Always the best!!! We Always come back here for their oysters shots, it's the best! Thanks TAka especially to Mario, he's great!

I've been coming to Taka for years with friends, and it's consistently one of my favorite spots in the Gaslamp. The sashimi is always fresh, the rolls have great flavor, and you can tell they take real pride in what they serve. If you go, definitely try the house special sushi roll. It's honestly amazing and one of those things we end up ordering every time. The sake and soju are always a hit too, especially if you're there with a group. What really makes the place stand out is the staff. They're beyond friendly, super helpful, and they make the whole experience fun and relaxed. Sitting at the sushi bar is a great move because the chefs are fun to talk with and it adds a lot to the night. If you're looking for a reliable sushi spot downtown with great energy, this is it.

Taka Sushi is easily one of my favorite spots to dine in downtown. The quality of the fish is always top-tier -- fresh, clean, and beautifully presented. You can really taste the difference. Their rolls are amazing, and the Box Sushi Roll is hands down my favorite. Perfect balance of flavor, texture, and presentation. Every bite is consistent and well executed. Service is just as impressive -- attentive, friendly, and efficient without feeling rushed. The restaurant itself is also very clean and well maintained, which makes the overall dining experience even better.

This is a nice place to get some delicious and fresh sushi. They offer different options to cater to many tastes. We were here for a company convention and a group of us decided to check this place out. Service was friendly and the environment was good!

What a great restaurant. I came here on a Friday night with my parents and was pleasantly surprised by the interior. They do leave the door open, so bring a jacket. There is a sushi bar and tables, as well as an outdoor patio where you can sit. Now let's talk about the food, especially the fish. They brought out mini soft shell crabs as a starter, which were like little crunchy snacks. It was something new for me, and I really enjoyed trying them. We ordered salmon nigiri and golden eye snapper nigiri with yuzu sauce, and both were melt in your mouth delicious and full of flavor. For rolls, we had the negi toro roll with fatty tuna and green onion, which was amazing. The fish was buttery and the green onion added the perfect balance. We also ordered the salmon skin roll and the spicy scallop roll, and both were delicious as well. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. I would definitely come back.

So I was back for the second time in a week. I can't praise this spot more. I love the service, the vibe, and the food. I get treated like family every time I go no matter how long it's been since my last visit. I missed it up this go round and tried some new nigiri, which were amazing, but my got to(salmon) will remain my favorite. The best sushi restaurant I've tried in SD hands down.

Visiting from out of town for work, and this place was easily the highlight of my trip to San Diego. The nigiri was exceptional, so fresh and beautifully prepared. You can truly taste the quality. Highly recommend if you're looking for outstanding sushi. Toro, golden eye snapper, cod, yellowtail belly, must try. Thank you!

Great and friendly service at this gaslamp gem! Outdoor seating, makes it pup friendly if you have your furry in tow. Tasty Sushi and the chicken fried rice was REALLY good!

We tend to be quite regular here - whenever we find ourselves downtown or in the Little Italy area. We often take the trolley, but every so often we'll drive. Each time, we're seated without a reservation (and sometimes as a family of 4) and it's been fun to bounce around their dining rooms as each spot has its own experience. This time, we snagged their bench seats right at the front. It's an open air concept, which I love, because I can enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant, yet outside a bit. My husband and I enjoy their menu and appreciate how it changes up regularly. Every visit necessitates oysters on the half shell, a ceviche, and a shared main. The New England Clam Chowder was creamy and the perfect start to the meal. The biscuit was good too, however it would have been better had it been served hot. The oysters rockefeller were also creamy, savory, and very tasty. It's a little weird how they serve it on a tray built for 6 but they only give 4. The Smoked Cod Toast I'd have to say was the most disappointing dish of the meal. It's basically an eggs benedict with fish on top. However I didn't get any smoky/fish taste and so the hollaindaise sauce overpowered the whole dish. The Rockfish Ceviche was very fresh and light. It goes very well with the basic saltine crackers. But the best dish of the night was definitely the Charred Octopus. So much flavor from the sauce and the olive tapenade, this is a must get. For dessert we got the banana pudding which was served tableside. They come out with a huge container and scoop it in front of you. While very good, I do wish it was a bit colder. Overall it was a great and fun meal that you should check out!

Do note that there is no dedicated parking for Blue Water, so at busy times it may be tricky to find a spot, but we had no trouble today. In the main dining ordering area & on the side patio, there were a few tables that were occupied, but there was no ordering line. All of us wanted shrimp today apparently, so my dad and I both got a shrimp taco with lemon garlic butter & my hungry mom got the shrimp platter also with lemon garlic butter. The platter came with 8 shrimp, jasmine rice, and a lovely, fresh garden salad. The server who took our order and brought it out to us was very helpful & nice. They have a ton of fresh seafood on offer though so if shrimp is not your thing, there will likely be another delightful offering from the sea that will suit your fancy. We sat in the side patio area and it was very pleasant. We enjoyed our experience this evening very much! The tacos were big and had more than 5 shrimp in them, plus cabbage, pico, cheddar cheese & white sauce. One taco was pretty decently sized. If I'd been hungrier, two tacos would've been perfect, but today, I was happy with one taco. Yum! Mom enjoyed her platter. It was beautifully prepared. Blue Water also has a decent soft drink selection and beers and wine, but we all just had their water and it was very refreshing! :) By the time we left at 5:45, a line was forming out the door, so we really came out at a good time. Arrived around 5:15pm, and there wasn't a line, but the restaurant had a good amount of diners. Pretty good ventilation at the front of the restaurant, but the back part of the restaurant, likely the overflow room was where my family and I were seated. It had a funky smell to the area and there was poor ventilation. I wanted to step out but I refrained. Everything felt stuffy in that section. The only nice person was the male staff member at the front for checkin. The rest of the staff were not very friendly. The hostess who walked us to our table was not very friendly and just rushed things. Took our drink orders, and didn't say much. Just walked off. I was surprised to see the pitchers with the beverages were sitting on top of a counter outside where customers are, without any lids. Anyone can just walk by and touch or spit in them. Thought that was not very hygienic... Different sections of food. I never expect food at buffets to be of good quality or taste excellent, so the food items were all mediocre. The teppanyaki grill was... well, let's just say they use the same spatula for everyone's entreés. You load up your plate and the cook throws everything on the grill. Uses the same spatulas to cook everyone's food. If you have allergies or sensitivity to spice, then probably avoid this section. He cooked the meat for someone else's plate and then touched the veggies for the other. Used mod spice level sauce for one, and then same spatula on my entreé. My order was non-spicy, but it had a kick since the neighboring sauce got onto my stir fry. Dessert section isn't even labeled.... meaning, the baked/dessert items aren't labeled other than the gelato flavors. Crab legs were very salty. Lobster claws in the cold section were OK though. The warm lobster they serve is limited to 1 per person per serving. Long line, and if they run out, you have to wait or return when they serve again. People were waiting in line while eating their food... the lobsters are tiny, dry, and with very little meat. It is definitely not worth paying the extra for lobster night. The amount of waiting time is ridiculous and there is no guarantee that you can even get a lobster. Some groups have 1 person waiting in line and then when it is their turn, the rest of the group members (5-7) cut the whole line to each get a lobster. I was trying to get 1 for my mother, and I didn't get to eat one, but didn't mind since it didn't even look good. Rest of the foods were mediocre too. I had 1 plate that wasn't even full... lost my appetite. Wouldn't return. Hygiene.... cross contamination... Some people say this place is like the old Pala casino buffet or Las Vegas buffet- definitely not the case. Parking can be compact. Gets busy around 5:45p it seems as more people were waiting in the lobby.
