I've been going here since I was very young and I'm so glad it's still around. The owner is incredibly generous and friendly, never had a problem here with any of the drinks or food or service. I normally get one of the fresh fruit smoothies and egg puffs (pandan flavored). I can't vouch too much for some of the other food items that he has here which sometimes rotate often but the snacks and drinks are really good. Everything is overpriced, and the staff aggressively pressure customers to buy more than they want. If you ask for one skewer of fish balls, they push you to buy two and "get one free," which is nothing more than a manipulative sales tactic. The attitude is even worse than the pricing. While I was simply browsing, an older woman snapped at me in a hostile tone: "If you're not buying anything, get out." This is completely unacceptable behavior and shows zero respect for customers. The ice cream, perfection, and I had to relearn to just skip the knife, use the fork to lift up the crepe and take a giant bite, delicious!! I've been coming to Hong Kong Snack House since I was a kid. I remember always asking my parents to get me some pandan egg puffs after trips to Ranch 99. We parked on that side of the mall and came through the entrance near Hong Kong Snack House, but we were going to shops. It smelled amazing. On our way out, we walked through to see what they were making. It's tiny, but the food is delicious. They make everything there. We bought a pork bun, (wonderful), a Chinese donut, and roasted Chestnuts. He told us they were organic, sweet, and small. Sold! We warmed them up at home over the fire. They were so amazing. Haven't been back here for several years! I intended to get a crepe, but they raised the price to $9.95! So I opted to share an egg puff waffle with a friend instead ($5.99). They have lots of stuff, quite a complete list for HK snacks, including freshly squeezed sugar cane juice, fin soup, all the cooked street food you can find in HK, glass bottle Vita soy milk, roasted chestnuts, etc. Sugar cane juice is ok, you can get it cheaper in some Vietnamese places. The fin soup is not good, too much soy sauce flavor and not enough black fungus or rice noodle to make it smooth. They did put in quite some shredded meat. The egg pluff is ok. Not a dine in shop. I've always visited the Pacific East Mall ever since I was a baby but I never bought food from this place until now. I ordered the pandan coconut egg waffle and this came out piping hot! This costed $5.95 without tax. I personally liked this one as I could taste the pandan and coconut flavor. It was very light. Also, it's worth noting that this place is CASH ONLY. This place is a hidden gem in the pacific east mall plaza. This is a small mom and pop shop that specializes in Hong Kong snacks plus Vietnamese goodies, crepes, boba, etc! This is my go to place for sugar cane juice and eggettes over the years! I got the regular eggettes and a large sugar cane juice: Eggettes: I must admit the eggettes this time around was not as sweet and chewy as the previous times. It was a bit cakey this time. Sugar cane juice: I'm not sure if it is fresh pressed, probably not since they have this year round, but I still love it! You already know it's gonna be good because the music from this place was roaring through the plaza!!! It's a small place but full of delicious beverages and snacks. If you see a line, don't worry because it goes by fast! The staff are nice and friendly as they work through each order. Definitely try the egg puffs and the sugar cane juice! There is seating right outside but it does get kind of chilly since it's near one of the plaza entrances. The cook says it's all the same price no matter how many items you pick or with or without ice cream. It's all the same price. Update: After I went and kept complaining to the guy what he charged me wasn't right for 3 crepes and me pointing to his price sign, when he brought my crepes out, he said he made me one extra 2 item crepe ($4.95) for free. It now equals to $22.00. So bull. Good thing I insisted very hard TWICE for him to give me my receipt. He didn't want to give me my receipt. He also didn't give my friend her receipt and she was charged way more than I did for a few items too. She knows she was cheated. Be careful going to this store for desserts in this mall. They cheat. It's very no frills 3) it's a bit pricier than I'd expect street food to be That being said I also think from what I've seen this is the only Hong Kong style street snack stall that I've seen in California. My family supported this shop when it rented a corner of the boba shop that closed down. This place brings back memories of us having dinner in the area (Daimo, Asian Pearl, Saigon) and topping the night off with egg puffs and boba milk tea before we head back to Fremont. Honestly, this is (or was) my go-to Hong Kong snack place since it reminds me so much of home. But the last time I went, they had a buy 3 get 1 free (they always had but I kept forgetting) thing. I went to order 2 orders of fishball and 2 orders of shiu mai, but I didn't know they all had to be the same item, so I told them to only have 1 order of fishball and 2 orders of shiu mai instead. The person who took the order confirmed my order. But I ended up getting what I initally ordered and I told them that's not what I ordered. I really love the pandan waffles here. So why the one star you ask? I go here all the time and like grabbing some waffles on my way home from work. The Yelp page says open until 9:30. It is Wednesday December 5, 2018 7:24 PM and it is closed. :(. No sign or anything that even shows hours. Every time I'm in the area, I make it a point to try and stop by here to grab some snacks. This shop is located inside the Pacific East Shopping Mall - mostly known for ranch 99. Their menu has so much going on and reminds me of all the snack shops in Hong Kong. You just need to know what's good here and order only that. Don't worry, I'm here to help! Mediocre food. They give HK Style a bad name. HK people don't make Banh Mi sandwiches either. It's a snack shop where all the snacks are a couple of levels below that you might get at a school fundraiser. Service is bad. They can't keep track of orders and mix up and miss orders if there happens to be more than 2 people in line. If they miss or skip your order, you won't know until other customers pass you up. Then they seem so confused and ask what you ordered like they have no idea, and they don't because they forgot. It'll take them another 10 minutes to make your order, and by then it's 30 minutes. Asking for a refund is met with a bunch of excuses and lip service. It's just not worth the aggravation. As you can tell, we'll never be back. So many other places all over the bay area with better food and service. Nothing they serve here is special. Nothing. And it's way overpriced. Obama pricing. Double talk. Doubt they even pay taxes. They basically can charge whatever they decide on a whim that day because the price on the wall, menu, signs mean nothing.
