Came here to eat and catch up with a friend by their recommendation when I was visiting New York - definitely one of my favorite places I got to visit while I was there in terms of food. I love homey traditional Korean food, but I thought this was also a fun take on Korean food as well. My personal favorite dish was the crepe wrapped pork belly - that stuff was so soft, melt in your mouth and had great flavors. I'd definitely say it's a great comfort food and I could've eaten loads of that. Also the cheesy kimchi stew I thought was fun. I'm usually not a huge fan of cheese in anything that doesn't traditionally/ HAVE TO HAVE cheese in it as I'm lactose intolerant, but I thought it went well with the stew and gave it a more rich and mild flavor. Also the crispy rice went well with it although I let mine go soggy so I'm not sure if I'm just sacrilegious for liking it like that. Also, they gave complementary ddukbokki which is some really good ddukbokki to be giving for free - but I like that they have that Korean restaurant "service" thing. Makes it seem more homey and nice! In terms of desserts we got the vanilla toasts and the matcha brioche toast thing. The vanilla toast was nothing special -- it almost just seems like the batter is undercooked (? although I think that's just how the melting translates to) but I really enjoyed the matcha brioche toast - it got a bit sweet toward the end as the toast itself was really syrupy. But I liked the sticky texture and the hot and cold of it. But you got to eat the ice cream fast or else it all melts into the hot plate! read more

I would give this place 5 stars for the pork belly platter alone, but the other dishes weren't as good as they sounded on the menu. We started off with complimentary platter of spicy rice cakes with fishcake. It was alright, really sweet at first, but then the spiciness kicks in a bit late. We ordered the pork belly platter, spam mayo rice balls, jjapaguri, japchae, half and half wings, and a seafood hot pot. The pork belly is a must get dish every time you come here!! At first, the layer of pork fat might seem like it'll be greasy and chewy, but boy are you wrong. The pork nearly melts in your mouth, which is a perfect indication that Take 31 definitely has their pork belly game on! The spiciness of the raw spring onions really compliments the pork and gives it that spicy kick to balance out the savory flavor profile of the pork. The charred edges was also beautifully done. Could easily come and order like 5 of these! Now for the other dishes: the spam mayo rice balls were honestly a huge disappointment. I expecting an elevated combination, but to be one honest, it tastes exactly like the listed ingredients: spam, rice, and mayo, nothing special. Japchae I would say was my 2nd favorite dish of the night, but the sauce was a tad bit too sweet and overpowering for me. Jjapaguri was not spicy as I thought it would be, tasted more like seafood Ramen. The hot pot was decent, had a LOT of mussels. I do wish there were more noodles though. Too much broth, the soup didn't really reduce because the fire died out. The red things for fuel aren't meant to last long. With a great dish and mediocre dishes, there's always going to be a worst dish. The wings I would have to say was the biggest disappointment and regret. The garlic half got soggy, and the other half was all stuck together. The flavors were also really lacking. It's one dish I don't recommend getting at all. It has amazing vibes, delicious food, and delicious drinks yogurt makgeolli: it wasn't too strong with the alcohol and was really sweet and tangy with the right amount of yogurt! it was a delicious drink for a lightweight like me to enjoy budae jjigae: right amount of spice which went along well with the drinks. Also had a good amount of vegetables and ham. ramen noodles are a must have in budae jjiga! pork belly rice roll: MY FAVORITE like please get this when you come. who wouldve thought of rice paper around pork belly to be this delicious. my favorite dish by far. the flavor of the savory meat being wrapped by the stickiness of the rice paper is amazing. you may not think it's that amazing but it is AMAZING cod roe seafood udon: very creamy and was delicious. I love creamy pastas and seafood, but was a bit disappointed by the small amount of seafood in the dish. How yummy! Love the unique Korean menu. Great dishes and even more that I want to try next time, especially their desserts. We had the corn pancake, spicy crispy chicken, braised pork belly, budae jjigae and a few other dishes that I don't remember. The real winner here though is the peach makgeolli! I went here with two friends to get light food and some drinks. It took about 5-10 minutes to get us seated which wasn't bad. We ordered the yogurt soju cocktail, corn pancake, some kind of red bean dessert and japchae. The yogurt soju cocktail was really delicious. I like that it was a little icey. Corn pancake was just okay. The red bean dessert was pretty good as well, especially with the toasted rice cake. The reason I'm giving this place two stars is because of the horrible service. We first got seated in a tiny corner table that didn't even look like it was supposed to be for 3 people, which we were okay with. However, we noticed that the table next to us was enough to seat 4 people. There were only 2 people there and they were almost done so we asked the server if we can move there after. They said no because other people were gonna sit there. We were fine until they sat another table of 2 there. At this point, we were thinking like wtf, why didn't they let us move there instead of having us sit in a tiny ass table? It just didn't make sense. Also, when we were trying to pay, the girl server ignored us so many times. I was holding my hand out so she could notice, but she just rudely snatched the check out of my hand without a single word of thanks. Another reason was that we noticed that table (Korean girls) got complimentary dukbokki while our table did not. I was informed by my friend that when she came here last time, they gave her and her Korean friend dukbokki. I really dig Korean fusion places and I LOVED Take31's aesthetic. Their vibe was really chill and the restaurant design was cute. I find it to be a great location for a date/chill night out with friends. My friends and I first looked into going to Her Name is Han, but saw that Take31 stayed open longer and had better prices (but def want to check them out next time we go to NYC!) Their soju cocktails are great- if you're in the mood for something sweet, I'd go with the I'm Berry Pine, and for something less sweet, the grapefruit is pretty refreshing. What I thought was interesting/cool about Take31 was that they give you (spicy rice cakes) as a free side dish! I HIGHLY recommend their Korean Fried Chicken!! It comes in a box with dried garlic pieces on the bottom- I can't stop thinking about how crispy it was... Fried pork belly was standard and the salmon cake rice bowl was pretty good (if you're in the mood for something sweet). Also, we started with a pajun (seafood pancake), but I found that to be relatively standard too, so when I go back, I'd like to try something different. Number of visits: Two too little. Let's start with - the serve you unlimited dukbokki and it's not one of those dishes that are like meh, I pass. It's actually super bomb and if you get lucky, you'll get some fish cake drowned in that sauce as well! The drink menu changes through the seasons and I definitely had a not so yummy yuzu drink where the lost me on that last star, but this season the white peach makgeollli was a redeeming factor. It really didn't taste like there was much alcohol in it though since it was a frozen drink. All time favorite dishes (in addition to the dukbokki of course) would be the crispy chicken, they have a new special with a wasabi whip cream, shrimp popcorn, and budaejigae. Surprisingly, their green tea brioche was top of the line dessert that I did not expect. I would say skip the pajeon (Korean pancake) since you can have it just about anywhere else, just about the same and there is just way too much other good stuff to have! The cod roe udon was creamy and had a decent amount of clams and squid. The sauce is slightly sweet and not too heavy. The corn pancake was so good, we ordered a second one. It's the perfect amount of crispy and reminds me of Mexican elote. The rice crepe pork belly was tender and I loved the flavor, although I was confused by the multigrain powder. I definitely recommend these three dishes if you end up going. We also ordered the budae jjigae, which I tend to prefer homemade but this one was pretty solid. I don't really like the taste of alcohol, so the sweet potato makgeolli and peach soju were ok for me. The soju came in a cute bottle with a couple slices of peach on the bottom. Don't expect to find Korean bbq, tons of side dishes etc. I've been here a handful of times now. I'm always excited to go to Take31, but after I dine, I'm not as satisfied. Drinks are standard price - variety of soju, beer, rice wine options. Some menu options are better than others; bossam is one of the popular options. While I like this, sometimes the pork is not marinated well, has an odd smell to it, which most likely signifies not fresh meat. Chicken dishes are average. When you order soup dish, they do not give you rice, must order separately. If you do order one, they will give you on scoop of rice in a tiny bowl, meant for toddlers. Compared to other gastropubs in Koreatown, Take31 is quite different hence the 3 stars despite the mediocre food. If you are looking for fusion Korean food that still retains that Korean spiceness, explore Take31. If you want don't want to venture too far out from your good ole boodehjjigae, ddukbogi, clam soup, I would try Bangia or Sojuhaus. read more

I came here twice with friends. One time the wait was extremely long, while another time it was only about 15 minutes (I guess it all depends on timing and how many you have in your party). The food: 5/5 The price: 3/5 The atmosphere: 4/5 The service: 5/5 Braised Pork Belly: the white kimchi and scallion really broke through the fat in the pork nicely. It added a lot fresh flavor to the meat. There was also red pepper paste. The best taste came from eating the pork piece with the kimchi and scallion in one bite. Garlic Crusts and Spicy Crispy Chicken: It's a lot of chicken, big enough to share with friends. Love that garlic flavoring. It was not spicy as in the description. I like sauce so I sort of wish this came with some sauce for dipping, but it was still flavorful. Unfortunately no banchan which I so love, but food came with complimentary dukboki. Almost everyday of the week, this place is full and on the weekends, there is a long queue out the door. If you want to beat the weekend rush, get a table before 6pm! You can also get a reservation if you have a party of 6 or more. This is usually my to-go place for Korean fusion food and to dine in a nicer atmosphere. Everything here is family style, so it's great that you get to sample a bunch of foods with friends. My favorite is the budae jigage (sausage stew)! My friend from Korea said it's the most authentic one she has found in Ktown! The seafood pasta is also really good. It is creamy, flavorful, and packed with seafood! I would recommend coming here early though on the weekends because it gets pretty packed. The food was okay. We ordered the bossam, kkatugi jambalaya and the seafood pancake. The seafood pancake lacked flavor which is probably why they gave us soy sauce on the side. The bossam was good a bit fatty but the scallion salad was a nice addition to cut through the fat. Interesting and trendy menu items collaborating amercan and korean cuisines but they don't taste as good as they look in pictures on their menu.. everything lacks deep flavors and taste like it's quickly made. I was compelled to go to Take31 for their interesting pseudo-fusion menu. The menu, and the actual dishes, lived up to expectations but I was taken aback by the awful service. I reached the restaurant at 10 pm. My friend and I ordered a beer, a specialty drink, and an entree. In 20 minutes, our entire order was on our table. And in 50 minutes, we were told that the table needs to be cleared to accommodate another reservation. Within in an hour, we were forced to gobble up our food and exit the premises for a 'reservation,' of which we did not see a single person outside. I was flabbergasted by how this restaurant treats its customers and hope they change their ways. read more

The place was nice and the service was attentive. But the food was just okay. For a dinner meal for 2, I ordered wasabi cream crispy chicken, Bossam () and spicy stew (forgot the name). The wasabi cream crispy chicken was awesome and I would definitely recommend to anyone. The wasabi cream sauce has a nice balance and adds an interesting kick to the fried chicken. Bossam meat (pork belly) was cooked perfectly and the fat was almost melting in the mouth. The problem of this dish is the sauce. The spicy berry vine sauce is not spicy at all and the sweet and sourness of berry flavor was quite odd when it interacts with pork fat, highlighting the greasiness of the pork fat. Even though spring onion () and white kimchi () were served together but the portion of kimchi was small and spring onion does not have any flavor so they did not help to reduce the greasiness. I think there are reasons why the tradition Bossam is served with wrapping veggies, ssamjang () and fresh garlic and this version did not absorb the essence of the traditional version. Spicy stew was so mediocre and the soup tasted exactly like instant jjambbong noodle (). None of the dishes taste bad but none of them actually meet my expectation considering I had to pay 20% more than regular Korean restaurant and high yelp reputation. read more

The spicy octopus was also pretty good, but I definitely have had better. They gave a service dessert dish of misugaru dalgona ice cream. Had a mini reunion with some old friends so we decided to try this spot recommended by my colleague. It was pretty busy when we got there but luckily we only had a 10 min. wait. We decided to order a bunch of different stuff off the menu and just try it family style. We started with the Braised Pork Belly, Shiitake Bulgogi Japchae, and Seasoned Rice Balls with Spam and Mayo. The portions were a lot smaller than we thought to split so we ordered some rice and Pork Belly Cutlets. For dessert we ordered the mouthwatering honey butter green tea brioche with green tea ice cream. Upon arrival we waited a few minutes to be seated but the staff was super nice. The restaurant itself is a little small but packed. We decided to order everything family style and split amongst our group. We tried the Crispy Havana-Style Corn Pancake, Garlic Crusts and Spicy Crispy Chicken, Pork Belly Rice Crepe Wrap, Kunpao Galbi, Garlic Fried Rice, Bulgogi Japche, and tried different Soju Cocktails. Everything was absolutely delicious. I was so happy to have tried such a variety of food and not a single item disappointed. Our crew quickly dug into the food so unfortunately no pictures unless people want to see cleaned plates. One thing to note, we had to pay cash so make sure to being cash. As we left, there was a line of people waiting to come in so that was definitely a sign that the food was great. We'll absolutely be back! A must stop in NYC. read more

I've never heard of Take 31 before until my friend recommended me and her friends to come try it out. The restaurant is located slightly away from the main flow of K-town. I love Korean food and didn't mind walking the extra few blocks for it. My friend's other friends got there about 30 minutes before we arrived so we didn't have to wait too long for a table. The other millennials standing in the cold however, was told they would have to wait another 20 minutes. It was pretty jam packed for a small restaurant. This gave off the impression that either the food was really good or the prices were. We sat down and ordered our cocktails, which to my surprise, came in a plastic cup. The waitress brought over spicy rice cake and said it was complimentary so we began eating that while browsing the menu. Their menu pictures were basically more like American entree style rather than Asian family style (food is ordered and shared by the entire table). We ordered seafood udon, spicy octopus rice balls, garlic crusts spicy crispy chicken, and seafood pancake. We thought we couldn't go wrong with the pancake order but we were wrong. There were too much leek and way too little seafood and there was a surprise spicy pepper (jalapeño I think?) buried in the middle. Plus, it was kind of on the burnt side (you may refer to the attached picture to see the charred and uncharred leeks and scallions on the pancake, almost none of the "seafood" can be seen) and we had to use a pair of large scissors and tongs to cut it up for ourselves. I've never been at a restaurant (other than the widely known exceptions of kbbq and hotpot) where we had to serve ourselves food that usually come prepared and cut but um....ok. I've come here numerous times over the years and it's always an extremely solid meal and one of my favorite places for gastropub-style Korean dishes. The prices are pretty average for K-Town, aka a bit pricier/not great value unless you're ordering effectively. This place is cute and it reminds me of Korea. I had cream udon and wasabi chicken when I went there first time and it was really good. These two menus are definitely recommended! Also, their complimentary teoppoki tastes delicious and you can ask for refills! read more
