They begrudgingly informed us that their competitor, Los Tamales Oaxaquenos, had what we wanted. However, these tamales are different than what we had expected: flat and square in shape, and wrapped in a plantain/banana leaf instead of a corn husk. I guess these are the regional tamales of the Oaxaca state - and they are really good! I don't think they will dethrone Tamaleria Munos for me, but they are available throughout the day and are delicious. Our second time here we ordered some more tamales, and some other things as well. We ordered the tlacoyo, topped with cactus salad. This was a surprise hit, and we'll definitely be ordering it again. It had a great depth of flavor, and was light and refreshing. I tried the horchata. It was all right, but nothing to make a pilgrimage for. My husband got a chorizo quesadilla, and this was a serious meal; very large, and contained onions and cilantro along with the usual cheese. Finally, my parents ordered tostadas and they were suitably impressed. Several times they remarked on how good they were. I think that the other restaurant may have made a mistake cluing us into this place. ;) Sometimes when you try something new, it really pays off!

I got the pambazo and it was actually the worst pambazo AND Mexican food that I had ever tried. The bread was super soggy and there was barely any filling, the ratio was like 70% bread 10% toppings and 20% chorizo con papa. On top of that it was cold, and the guy who served me sneezed directly into his hand before handing me the food which honestly should've been the first red flag but I tried to look past it. Thought I feel rude writing this, this place is just so bad I felt the need to even leave this review so maybe it can save someone from spending money here and get something better instead. I didn't take a picture of the food because I didn't plan to even write this but think twice before eating here

Instead of being the canned stuff you can tell they put both a lot of care and seasoning into it. We moved out to the burbs and I saw this one on Yelp...but was it related? I mean, they have two different websites, and the one for this location literally has on their website "Serving you at one location!" We weren't sure, but we were willing to give it a shot. We came early on a Saturday, and inside they had a picture of the one in Chicago, and street signs for Ashland and Roscoe, where the Chicago one is located. So it HAS to be related...right? But the menus looked a little different... We got started with the chips and salsa, and the salsa has a real kick. Note that you only get the first chips for free and more chips would cost more. My wife got a torta, and I got tacos with steak and eggs on it, while my kid got the kid's quesadilla meal. And sure enough, there were those beans. Not dry at all and super flavorful. Next time I need to do my wife's play and order double beans instead of beans and rice. My tacos were messy but cooked well, with lots of bits of steak. I was a little confused because I thought my kid's meal would come with a drink, but they charged for his lemonade. I assume it's because it was a special blended drink and not just from a soda fountain. Now that we know this is here, we'll definitely be back, especially seeing that they have a patio for warmer weather. Glad to see we have an option when we're missing our city days.

If you like my reviews, consider "following" my profile for reviews all across the SF Bay Area . Why "follow" someone? It causes the person you follow's reviews to tier to top when you pull up a business. I find this very handy when researching venues. Rod's Review grading scale explained. Essentially I personally base it on the likelihood of a return visit and I try to be stingy with 5 star reviews since they should be "special" in my eyes. Price/Value also play a role obviously but there are $ and $$$$ littered across my grading scale. 5 stars - "I'll go out of my way" (approx 6 % of my reviews) 4 stars- "If I was in the area I'd go here and would recommend", (approx 38% of my reviews) 3 stars "Maybe if was nearby", (approx 37% of my reviews) 2 stars -"Would likely not return, Only if you want to go", (approx 16% of my reviews) 1 star -"No thanks, even if I was hungry", (approx. 3 % of my reviews)

Our server, Am B, was friendly and attentive. When we had issues with our food, she handled it well and even brought us two shots as a nice gesture for the inconvenience. Manager Miguel was especially outstanding -- he came over right away the first time, stayed positive and helpful when we sent the food back a second time, and was happy to remove the problematic items from our bill. The whole staff was super nice and made us feel taken care of. Unfortunately, the food did not match the service. I ordered the ground beef taco dinner. The first plate came out cold, so I sent it back. The second attempt still lacked flavor -- the rice and taco I ate both times were bland. For a Mexican restaurant, it was disappointing, especially when compared to places like Chipotle that deliver hotter and tastier food for half the price point. My son ordered the steak burrito bowl, and his first one was also cold (not even warm). He didn't enjoy it either. Overall, the hospitality was 5 stars, but the food was not worth the stop. We appreciated how the staff made it right, but I probably wouldn't return for the food. I'd recommend going if you're in the area and prioritize friendly service, but temper your expectations on the meal itself.

If you are looking for a good ol Mexican place, this is the place for you! They do take reservations and are pretty sizable. We went on Saturday night which was a bit crazy. It was very crowded and we were concerned about the service. While the service was a little bit on the slower side and we were there for almost 90 minutes, all the food came out hot and delicious. I got the Enchiladas in Mole Sauce which was excellent. It also came with a soup or salad which was a nice surprise. I went with the black bean soup which was great! If there was any downside, my House Margarita tasted a little weird. I probably could have complained, but I kept with it. Pretty good size, but I think there was a little too much tequila in it! Either way, this place isn't inexpensive, but you do get quite a bit of food and everybody at my table enjoyed their meal. Sometimes thats enough! This is a great icon in this part of Chicago/Rosemont.

Maria's has gone downhill!…read more Very disappointed with Maria's today. I'm never going back after what happened today. First of all, there's nothing vegan on the menu. So when I usually order veggie tacos or they're called vegetariano I used to have a good time with them. This time, I ordered the vegetariano tacos and I said no cheese and I also ordered the black bean soup. The black bean soup came with a whole bunch of grated cheese on top of it. She dumped it on the table and left. She just walked away. In my mind, the waitress was telling me to uck off. I could be wrong. Instead of waiting for her to come back and sending the soup back, I scooped up all the grated cheese and threw it on the plate next to me and ate the black bean soup. When the veggie tacos came, there was no salsa. So I waited for the waitress to come back, and I said, I want some green and red salsa, and she brought me two bottles of hot sauce and left. So my sister asked the busboy in spanish, "green and red salsa" and he said, okay, I'll get it for you. He didn't, the waitress came back, and we told her I wanted green and red salsa, and she told me the green salsa was very hot. I told her to take back the veggie tacos cause they're cold already, and I can't eat them. Wth all this back-and-forth, I'm now in front of naf knaf grill, and I'm gonna get some falafel there. What a waste of time I'm never going back to marias, again, never, never never never! I think the waitress did not speak English that well too bad. So sad, i'm never going there again and I eat veggie tacos several times a week, and many other places which are better than maria's. If you're thinking about going there, forget it, there's much better places out there in this world that are vegan friendly.

We decided to sit outside on the patio, which honestly wasn't much different from other restaurant patios. Our server, Trayana, was exceptionally kind, cheerful, and truly wonderful -- nothing but compliments for her service. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the food and drinks. The cocktail Paloma was marked on the menu as "the most popular," which is why I ordered it, but I simply didn't enjoy it. The same goes for the food. I ordered the Salsa Verde enchiladas, and I can't really say they were good either. They tasted somewhat sour to me. One great touch, though, was the complimentary chips with three different dips served as an appetizer. While we're not huge fans of that kind of snack, many people are, so it's definitely a nice addition while waiting for the main course.
