I've never really had Thai food before but I stopped in with a friend one evening to try it out. I'm a very picky person so I usually end up getting some sort of chicken meal. All in all, it was pretty basic. I got the cashew chicken and it was good. Not amazing, just simply good. My friend ordered the panang chicken curry...I ended up dipping some of my chicken in her curry. It was tasty. The highlight of our meal was the pot stickers. We ordered them as an appetizer and they were really good. We were terribly hungry and they definitely hit the spot. We ordered some brown rice to share. Overall, it was a decent meal. Slightly aging style inside, but great food and one of my favorite features: a full bar. The feel inside is somewhat cool but very chic. Personally I like florescent lights, but some people will find them too 90's. The service was thorough and appropriately aware of our needs without being oppressive. Love this place. I would have given it 5 stars but it is really expensive. I don't go here all the time (probably less than once per year) so when I do, I get a lot. 2 favorite things, Hidden Treasures and Mee Grab (sp?). Do not go to this restaurant! It is the worst, the very worst Thai food we have EVER eaten. The soups chicken soup was so watery, and the chicken so rubbery, it's disgraceful. The Martinis are glasses of ice cold water with chips of ice floating around, and the bottle of Vodka must have been passed over the glass to make it smell like a Martini. We sent our GREY GOOSE martinis back and asked for a Martini with some vodka in it. The waitress returned with the same drinks which she had added a little vodka to...sufficient to pretend you were having a Martini. Talesai is one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to. And I've been to a good amount. The portions are a bit surprisingly small at first, HOWEVER, we Americans need to get used to eating proper sized meals, not SUPERSIZED meals. I typically never order an appetizer when I go out to eat but I always get veggie rolls to start here and an entree. I'm full up after this and don't feel the need to nap off 500 extra calories of food. The food is wonderful. Someone mentioned the wait staff as being rude. Furthest thing from it. Oh my god!!!! The food here is amazing!! All i have to say is "hidden treasure". such a delight. The salmon was too die for. The sticky rice with the sweet sauce was over the top. The first restaurant i have been to where the price isn't on the menu. only seen that in the movies. If all restaurants that do that have food as wonderful as this place, It's alright with me. this will be my new birthday restaurant from now on. My eight year old loved it and he is pretty much only a mcdonald's conniseur. The staff is very professional and nice. The owner Chai is wonderful. Had my first martini, a thai lychee martini that is, and it hit the spot. Please visit this place and keep it open. But you must have the "hidden treasure". This is a great find, and yes, it is much nicer than most of the generic thai places in the Valley and littered all across L.A. It is quiet for a Ventura Blvd spot, but the quality of the food is very good and the prices are reasonable. Tonight they had almost a full house, so perhaps the word is getting out. The best thing about the food is the flavors to be subtle, and I don't mean bland or mild, but well chosen and combined. I would concur with another review that medium to hot is a good choice here, as they don't go overboard on the heat. I also found the food less oily than many thai restaurants. My favorite dish is the vegetable curry. The only slightly disappointing dish I've had is the green papya salad, which had some heat, but the flavors were a little bland, but maybe that's because I got it vegetarian and there's not a true alternate recipe, they may just leave out the shrimp and components of the sauce. You can get a hot sake for $4, which is less than a coffee at Starbucks. Most of the vegetarian dishes are $6-$10, which is the same price as fast food like Pick up Stix, or the many cookie cutter strip mall places, but this is a casual, white linen table cloth experience with a full bar, fresh flowers on all of the tables, and the food presentation is nice. A neighboring table ordered what appeared to be scallops and they came out on a plate with little compartments for each scallop, each presumably drenched in buttery/saucy goodness and covered by individual Hershey kiss shaped caps to keep them hot. Clever dinner. The martinis run about $12 and look enticing, but I haven't tried any yet - the $4 sake is too hard to turn down. Check it out. read more

This is my favorite thai food in all the land. Every single thing you order from here will be top notch. I am in love with the fried rice, the shaking beef, the garlic chicken and the crab noodles. When my office was close we used to order from here at least once a week & sometimes I would order enough for dinner. If you get a lunch special if comes with a salad & a veggie roll. My only critique would be I wish the portions were bigger and some may consider it pricey, but in this case well worth it. Such a hidden gem. I am not a big fan of Thai food, but I love it here. It has never been crowded, and though it has a touch of Miami Vice ambiance, the food is delicious and the service is wonderful. We have never gone wrong ordering the appetizer called the Golden Triangle, the blue moon martini, and the islanders fried rice, we have ordered several other dishes but those are the favs, and then for dessert the mango sticky fried rice is wonderful and not a typical dessert. read more

My wife and I went here and enjoyed a lovely dinner. This is one of the better Thai food restaurants we've eaten at in Los Angeles, but also one of the more expensive. I had the Short Rib Drunken Noodles and she had the Short Rib Green Curry, both were Specials. Neither of us had ever had short rib in a Thai dish before, and we found that it paired really well with Thai spices. Delicious! My boyfriend and I spotted Talesai while driving in Studio City, looking for an interesting place to have lunch. The big neon sign on the building was calling our name. The decor is cool and minimal, some interesting modern art lining the walls... comfy seating and friendly service, too. We started out with Thai iced teas that were to die for!! The best Thai iced tea i've ever had! We both decided on the Chicken Pad Thai. The lunch special was an excellent price: they started us out with a small salad and a (super tasty) spring roll that was the perfect size for a starter. The dressing was light and delicious.. fresh greens and grape tomatoes, a perfect compliment to the main course. Then comes the Pad Thai. EASILY the best I ever had... and have tried it in MANY places. They give the perfect portion size... it's light and clean and just truly perfect as Pad Thai can be. Great place!! Positive experience all around! Fair prices for wonderful food and great service. A nice place to take a date or go with a group of friends. We will be back!! read more

I had dinner here last night. The food was delicious. There are a few things that I order here and would highly recommend. First off, their crab fried rice is so savory and worth every calorie. I am obsessed with their crab noodle, but last night I tried their chicken pad see ew. I would still order the crab noodle over pad see ew, but that is mostly due to my love for crab. They also make the perfect mixture of crab and cream in the fried crab wonton appetizer. I love how thin they are. While some complain about the "small" portions, I was able to split two entrees (1 rice dish and 1 noodle dish) and one appetizer (with no sides)among two people and feel very satisfied. But I also don't like see a plethora of food, that I know I can't finish. As for the drinks, the Phucket (poo-ket?) Dream hits the spot. It tastes like vacation. Wonderful meal. On a Monday night at 7:00 p.m. the place was empty, but I had made a reservation because there were nine in our party. The best thing I can say is that the Martini's were very good! (Lemon Mint was a fave.) However, most of the dishes are on the bland side in flavor, and a bit pricey for the small portions. We ordered a large variety of dishes but the best thing we had all night was an appetizer called 'Hidden Treasure', which consists of shrimp, scallop and crab meat in a broth that has a nice presentation and is served in what looks like mini tagines. Everything went downhill after that. The worst part of the evening was the service! Very indifferent and slow! No attentiveness whatsoever, as empty water glasses peppered the table and we were not asked if we wanted/needed anything else during our meal. read more

If you want true authentic Thai food made with seriously fresh ingredients and a lot of heart, check this place out. Not to be a food snob, but if Talesai were in New York or San Francisco, it would be jammed packed every night. The food is that good and authentic, but with very friendly prices. The lunch specials for $10 are amazing-- Add a couple bucks and treat yourself right with the Salmon Lunch Special cooked in ginger and garlic. The large, fleshy slab of Salmon is caught wild and you can taste the difference. The wine list seems to have been put together by someone who loves wine for the right reasons- enjoying it with food and friends. They sell rare wines at a crazy low price and some wines I've seen around town for a lot more. There's a full bar that makes stiff drinks to wash down the Satay and Dumplings. The white table cloth makes this affordable place great for dates, but the warm atmosphere make it good for a solid meal out with your family or friends, as well. This is the Studio City Outpost of the Talesai on Sunset. That Talesai is for Thai food, what Mr. Chows was for Chinese... Meaning, it built a reputation on taking the American Thai food experience to a new level..
