We split 5 dishes between 4 people & it was enough food. The pad Thai is the best pad Thai I have ever had. Obsessed with the crudo's chili lime sauce! The perfect punch of flavor blending sweet, spicy, and tangy in a rich, refreshing taste! Their fried chicken was probably the juiciest I've ever had--literally glistening and driipping in juice. The batter was so light and crispy, paired so well with the extra sauce from the crudo as our server has reco'd! The pad see ew was solid and made well, not as impactful as the other. The Massaman Curry Braised beef was really good as well, rich and cozy with tender soft beef (could be a tad less sweet). Just okay. Tried this place to see what the hype was about & Chase card had a dining offer. We arrived on time for our reservation on a Friday night & were seated in under 10 minutes. The kratong tong appetizer stood out the most, but would not be enough to get me to return. Maybe we ordered the wrong things but the other dishes were definitely not justified by their price tag (panang curry, massaman braised beef, Peruvian scallops). Papaya salad was also extremely spicy so would not recommend if you are sensitive to spice. I typically enjoy mild spice. Anajak Thai on Ventura is one of those places that's literally always busy, and after finally trying it I get why. There's valet parking in the back plus metered parking along Ventura Blvd, but definitely expect it to be packed. We went on a Tuesday for their TTT (Thai Taco Tuesday) and honestly the tacos were one of the highlights. We got the carnitas tacos which come 2 per order on mini tortillas, but they're packed with filling. The flavors were sooo good..very Thai and Mexican fusion in the best way. Tender meat, cilantro, fresh toppings, and somehow everything worked perfectly together. We also got the shrimp coconut curry tostada which was essentially one crispy tostada topped with shrimp and sauce. SO good. That sauce alone was delicious and I'd definitely recommend trying it. Another standout was the Kauai prawns..4 prawns cooked in this spicy/sweet/savory sauce that was honestly incredible. Absolute favorite and would 100% order again. The drunken noodles were also sooo good and flavorful. The only thing that underwhelmed us a little was their famous Southern Thai fried chicken. Maybe our expectations were too high because it's one of their popular dishes, but it honestly just tasted like regular fried chicken. Not bad at all, just nothing super special to us. It came with crispy rice and dipping sauce on the side. I also really wanted to try the mango sticky rice, but apparently only the chef's mom makes it and if she's not there they don't have it so sadly we missed out. Been meaning to go to Anajak Thai since seeing Chef Justin (he's a hoot) at Food Bowl a few years ago, but kept dragging my feet. I was a bit worried because Anajak seems to have very mixed reviews, with lots of people saying it's overhyped. Our dinner here was fantastic. The food was all hits no misses and the service was exceptional (thanks Jose and Carlos!), friendly, incredibly attentive. They constantly changed plates, cleared the table, and paced dishes perfectly throughout the meal. Other people have said the inside is quite loud and it really is. I also didn't realize some of the portions were... quite big lol (fried chicken and fish), so I def got too much food. We've got drunken noodles and crab for lunch! We ordered: - Kanpachi crudo ($25)--the sauce was for sure the highlight of the meal, I think it's a nam jim sauce(?). The fish was delicious and I loved the cucamelons a lot. They save the extra sauce in a small bowl so you can put it on just about everything else - Pork ribs ($26)--coated in a pineapple glaze similar to BBQ sauce. The ribs were tender with just a slight chew, the perfect doneness for me - Southern Thai fried chicken ($39)--this was a whole half of a giant bird lol, I was expecting 3-4 small chunks. Every piece was cooked perfectly, including the breast, which was very juicy and tender. The crust looked thick but wasn't greasy at all. Served with sticky rice, nam jim gai (my favorite), and a sweeter chili sauce (my husband's favorite) - Grilled branzino ($59)--came with nam jim seafood sauce, cilantro, and scallions. The fish was huge, nicely cooked, with crispy skin and a great smoky flavor. That said, it wasn't the most tender branzino I've ever had, dunno if due to the cook on it or the large size - Live Dungeness crab in pong gari curry ($95)--I loved how they served the crab head with rice!! Dump some crab meat inside, add a little sauce, and it's basically a meal on its own. The curry itself is on the sweeter side and went great with the crab, although I feel like it'd be better when they serve it with live lobster - Spicy drunken noodles with shrimp ($29)--not bad, but I'm unqualified to rate this because I don't really like rice noodles in general :D - August ice cream bar ($14)--Thai coffee, dark chocolate, peanuts, and fish sauce caramel. Not overly sweet, and I really wish they had the mango sticky rice (unavailable for a while) I expected an average meal and left with a new favorite Thai spot. I've heard so much about this place and so many people have highly recommended it. It is really good. My only 2 notes are that the papaya salad is not made of the sweet fruit papaya but "green papaya" so you have been warned. Our server also said it was 8/10 on the spicy scale. Incorrect. It is in fact a fire 10. Where your tongue will literally be LIT on fire from the spice. It HURTS. My husband and I could not continue to eat this dish and enjoy our meal. We sent it back and they were kind enough to take it off our bill. My other note is that the hyped up Thai fried chicken is a little ... dry. The crispy flavor of the skin is delicious but once you get inside... it's not to my standard of juicy chicken. And I ate a thigh. The hamachi was good, loved the sauce. So much flavor. The pad Thai was exquisite probably one of the best pad Thai's I've ever had and the portion is decent without being overwhelming. The drunken noodle is also delicious I just wish they were able to add the same egg they added to the pad Thai. That would have made my night! But alas they said no. The tom yum also is super creamy and really good. It comes with a fish collarbone as well. All in all, we came at 9pm on a Friday night and they close at 9pm but they still let us in with our reservation. It's booked and BUSY inside and so loud. But it's a vibe and def good thai food. If you can score a reservation for ttt, you will be rewarded with some imaginative creations. Fried Soft Shell Crab: The small Maryland crab has a light crispy batter and the soft shell provides a nice snap. Dunk it in the excellent Pad Pet sauce, a sweet and sour mix of red curry and lime leaves. Striped Bass Fish Tacos: The flaky slab of bass slaps with its firm and juicy flesh and crispy edges. The red cabbage is fresh and crunchy and the blue tortillas are thick. The green chili lime is sweet and tangy, yet the great fish flavor still shines through. Laab Tots: This northeastern Thai minced pork dish has been fashioned into meatballs. The herbs and lemongrass add wonderful texture and flavor. Like a plate of meatballs in a red sauce, the jaew sauce perfectly complements the tots. In fact, this is the best sauce of the night with its roasted tomatoes, shallots, garlic, and chilies. Southern Thai Fried Chicken: The plate contains crispy and juicy pieces from half a chicken. The sweet dipping sauce gives a good contrast to the savory and tender meat. The sticky rice is firm and chewy with crispy fried shallots. Actually, without all the sauce, the skin is nicely seasoned with turmeric and other spices. Dungeness Crab Fried Rice: Dungeness crab and fried rice is always a crowd pleaser. The sweetness of the crab, scrambled eggs, and firm rice are all you need. We finally made here after all these years! We sat on the patio/side of the restaurant. Nothing special but it was a nice night, they had music, and they tried to spruce up the table with white linens. So not as bad as it sounded when booking. The southern Thai fried chicken was probably my favorite although the papaya salad was also good and usually I don't love that dish, even when in Thailand. I would slip the Noodles Supreme, it was a good dish but I enjoy more bold flavors and spice. Wine only, which is fine, but be ready to pay a premium. I was excited to try Anajak Thai as I had frequently heard and seen how popular it is due to its unique menu items and quality ingredients. We were lucky enough to secure a reservation for a Friday evening just a couple of days prior-- checking in and being seated for our reservation was very smooth and the service from the staff was friendly and attentive throughout our dining experience! I especially appreciated how our server went through the menu with us as first timers at Anajak! Also, I was a little worried about being seated outdoors due to the chilly weather, but I can confirm that there are plenty of outdoor heaters set up throughout their outdoor space that I honestly forgot it was even cold outside to begin with! As for the menu items, I really appreciated the uniqueness of the platters-- for example, the Grilled Cabbage with chutney was something I had never seen or tried before and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it! My favorite dish had to be Panang Curry and the Laab Moo, which I would recommend to anyone who likes a little kick of spice in their dishes! This place is hype... and falls short of expectations. Was able to make a reservation 2 weeks in advance, for a 8:30 seating on a Thursday (they close at 11 despite what google/yelp indicates). We were told by the hostess that they were running 10 minutes late, and that our table was getting set up. We ended up having to wait 20-25 minutes. The server put the rest of the sauce in a bowl for us to use for the other dishes. 9/10 only because I wish it came with more fish. Next we got the pork ribs with pineapple glaze. This was an 8/10. The meat was nice and juicy and the glaze was perfectly sweet but not too sweet. It was a 10/10 with the crudo sauce tho! After we got the fried chicken and this was a 6/10. It was good but nothing to write home about tbh. Even with the sauces it came with, it was still okay in my opinion. With the crack sauce I would say it was a 7/10. There was not much flavor with the chicken itself but still good. Our last main was the pad Thai and it was good! Very similar to the ones I've had in Thailand. Anajak Thai has been on my must-try list for a long time, and now I'm mad at myself for waiting so long. I didn't book far enough out, so I could only get a 5 PM reservation, and the restaurant was already packed when we arrived. Even so, our table was ready and the service was phenomenal. Our server really helped us figure out a good balance of dishes based on what we were interested in. We ordered the papaya salad, crispy garden rolls, panang curry, drunken noodles with shrimp, jasmine rice, sticky rice, and a scallop dish that I cannot remember the name of but was absolutely freaking amazing. The papaya salad was spicier than I usually go for, but it was so delicious that I'm really glad I had it. The crispy garden rolls were good, though they didn't totally blow my mind. What did blow my mind was the curry and the scallop dish. Both were eyes-rolled-back-in-your-head delicious and absolute must orders. Our waitress was such a sweetheart, and the sommelier took the time to let us taste a few different wines so we could find something we loved. Finally got a chance to try out Anajak with some friends and had a lovely time sitting on their patio, which had decent music. The food was good, though I wasn't wowed, especially at the price point. I do wish they served some Thai beer to go with the food; they have an extensive, and pricey wine list. For food, we ordered: Papaya Salad ($15), which had good heat, but was a small serving Pork Ribs ($26) very tender and flavorful Laab Moo ($19) decent flavor, but similar to your local Thai take-out Southern Thai Fried Chicken ($39), good flavor and a pretty substantial side. Wish they gave more of the sauce and sticky rice Noodles Supreme with shrimp ($29, plus an extra $10 to give us 4 shrimp). This dish was highly recommended by the server, stating it was the chef's favorite. It was just ok, to be honest. We ordered a bottle of a very tasty Piemonte Sparkling at $110, though we did get a 10% discount on it since they lost some liquid when they opened it in the back. I do wish they would have opened it in front of us, which is usually standard practice. Glad we finally got to go, but I'm completely happy sticking with Lum-Ka-Naad for my Thai needs. read more

I've heard so much about Anajak over the years and wasn't sure what to expect or whether the hype was real. Very glad we tried (and loved) it. From the get go the staff was fantastic. Everyone who tended to us was eager to make recommendations, and was always there for anything we needed. They were also genuinely happy to find out it was our first time at Anajak and steer us to the best dishes. The atmosphere was fine... it was very busy and very loud, but that was OK with us and part of the energy. There's also a nice, more intimate outdoor seating area if you prefer. Ok, now the food - We had the pork ribs with pineapple glaze, and they were excellent. There was a nice caramelized crust on the ribs and the sauce was amazing. A little bit of crunch, and very tender meat. Definitely ordering those again. Next, we had the fried chicken and that was equally satisfying. The sauces that the chicken comes with were really unique and delicious, and the chicken was perfectly crispy and moist without being dry or fatty. Some of the best fried chicken we've had. Next up was the Dungeness crab fried rice, and surprisingly, there was an equal ratio of crab to rice. Salty, savory, and the best crab fried rice I've eaten. Finally we tried the pad siew with chicken and loved that as what well. Often times with pad see ew, the noodles might be a little bit al dente, or they come mushed together. Not the case at Anajak, where the noodles were cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of sauce, moist chicken, and fresh vegetables. We had so much delicious food here and also loved the wine we tried. For anyone interested, their wine list is insane, featuring a more extensive wine list than I've seen anywhere. Considering the aspect that this restaurant is recognized in the Michelin guide, the food lives up to the hype and the service is beyond anything else you'd find in the LA food scene. As someone who has been eating southeast Asian food all my life and spent a small stint in Bangkok, the flavors here are better than your average Thai restaurant. The papaya salad was small, but the spice and addition of sliced fruit really packed a punch. I was obsessed with the sauce from the Crudo. I actually saved the sauce in a small saucer when they were clearing the plates for next dishes and kept using it for dipping. The branzino was so good with crispy skin and fish that fell apart with each spoon jab. The Chinese sausage fried rice was incredible and I liked that they put a whole sausage on the side so you can compare the meat flavor versus the flavor combined with the rice. With the ribs, each bite was perfectly coated in sauce. They provide small wet hand wipes so you can toss your worries to the side and just dig in. The star of our meal was the wagyu steak. It came sizzling on the hot plate and we got to cook it for additional time if we wanted, or eat it as it came medium rare. You can really taste the quality of the steak and I loved dipping it in all the sauces we collected from the other dishes. We had to get the mango sticky rice but ate it so fast before we got a picture. Speaking on the dining experience, being a patron here is more than just trying to get food in your belly. The staff are so attentive in a way that is genuine and authentic. They care so much about making sure your selections will cater to your tastes, from the food to the wine. The restaurant playlist is fun but also soft enough to keep conversations. Food comes out at a great pace and staff are constantly checking on drink levels and clearing plates for space. Hana was a fantastic server! She made sure that we felt tended to while also asking for our true feedback on the food so she could make further suggestions. Her wine selections for us were almost as if she read my mind. For my friend's birthday, they even brought out a man playing ukelele for the birthday song as the dessert came out. Tables are intimate but not cramped and the space is beautifully curated to feel elevated without pretentiousness. So good!! I was hesitant on getting the Crudo at a Thai restaurant but it was the BEST think we had- Sweet, citrusy, spicy and refreshing. Pad Thai has some of the thinnest noodles but I think that helped keep the sweet flavors. The fried chicken was super crispy and a very large portion. The sauces that came with it were soooooo good and gave it the Thai twist I was hopping for. John insisted on the cabbage and it was good! Apparently it's one of the most popular items. Great atmosphere outside, even in early January! Many heaters so very comfortable and no idea you're in an alleyway. Beautiful lighting and walls separating you from the street and noise. Serve was adequate. Nothing special. Hostesses were a little inattentive (chatting amongst themselves before acknowledging guests). Food was very good but not great, as I remember from past meals of several years ago. carne asada tacos (my friend ordered) shrimp taco - excellent, Thai/Mexican fusion fried chicken - was good but not uber special drunken noodles - portion size overall dish just mediocre Prices, including wines by the glass, are HIGH. I had this place bookmarked for a few months now. Happy to say I got to check it off! First off, definitely make a reservation. I'm not confident you'll be able to be sat without one. It's very busy. The atmosphere was relaxed, plenty of outdoor space. They do have heat lamps outside, which they can turn down if you get too warm ( we did ). Our waiter, Jasmine, was great. She was able to make quality recommendations, checked on us often, and was overall pleasant. The quality of the food is good. Very good, even great. However, the price per portion is insane. The quality is good but the price was not cute. I've been to many a Thai restaurant and I've never seen portions this small and at this price point. It's worth it for the experience, but definitely a special occasion restaurant not an every day one. I see why it topped the lists. read more

The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. It's hard to get a reservation the day of. Walk-ins are also hard to get as well. The space is unique with colorful tables clothes, but the table space might be a bit small if you are ordering a lot of dishes. It seems like they try to pace out the dishes so the next one will come when you are almost done with the previous course. The southern Thai fried chicken comes with 5 big pieces, which is funny because it's described as an appetizer. The Pad Thai seemed to be smaller than expected, after following up the fried chicken. The hamachi is the dish everyone had been ordering around us and the sauce is delicious. Surprisingly, the staff automatically came by, unprompted, after we consumed the hamachi, to put the extra Thai seasoning in a bowl for future dipping needs. Apparently, this is a request that people commonly make, so they take the initiative to bring over a bowl. They have special Anajak Thai wines to try, which can be sold by the glass. I want to start off with all the pluses. All staff are attentive: servers, chefs and hosts. They got great attention to details, notice little detail on the reservation, table, water and what's on the dishes. Everyone is knowledgeable about the dishes. The restaurant carries great selection wine - make it a great date night spot It is super obvious why they get Michelin; they simply just check all the boxes, A+, predictable, super westernized... Portion Tablecloth Cleanliness Friendly staff Fork and knife (instead of spoon and fork) Garnishes To be real and honest as a Thai girl born and raised from the south, the dishes' flavors were underwhelming, again they felt/ were prepared and tasted diluted and westernized. The grilled chicken wings (gai yang) and laab moo were herbal, served as appetizers. They were served in such small portions which seem irrational when these dishes are meant/ oftentimes consumed with family/ in family-sized portions. Thais tend to like dishes that taste more pungent, tasty food especially in laab moo. Serving with lime on the side felt illegal. Laab's 3 main flavors are salty (fish sauce) hot (red chilli flakes) and sour (lime). Sour should be included already rather than separate a sliced lime to the side. I really looked forward to try their parang curry when I thought it was gonna be the star of the show. I was wrong and disappointed in the panang curry so much... Any Thai restaurant can make better parang curry than what was served to us. What stood out to me was the spicy fried rice that they got to the tea. 9/10, still came out a little "wet" than my liking. It's very hard to mess it up Overall if Anajak Thai was a restaurant in Thailand, I don't believe they would be as popular as it is here in LA. I really want to love this place but it just disappointed me after reading all the amazing reviews online that set my expectations higher than usual and hearing all the recommendations. I have heard a lot about Anajak Thai, but I never really considered it because it's so damn far from me. Well, my girlfriend really wanted to try it so I made the long drive over here. The one thing I noted pretty quickly is that is not authentic Thai food. If you can get over that quickly, then it's pretty good. The best thing they have here is the Southern-Thai Fried Chicken. Really crunchy batter and came out piping hot! Also ordered the Laab Moo, BBQ Pork Collar, and Shrimp Pad Siew, which were all good. I did have a quibble about the order of the dishes. You would think that the Laab Moo should come out first and the Southern-Thai Fried Chicken should come out last. Nah, we got our food in this order: Southern-Thai Fried Chicken, Laab Moo, BBQ Pork Collar, Shrimp Pad Siew. I think they make everything in batches, so it just comes out when it is ready. Still, a very peculiar choice. Staff here are very friendly despite this place being slammed. With that said, it felt more like an Asian place than a nice restaurant. Felt like I had to get our server's attention more than once. Glad I tried Anajak Thai. Worth at least one trip. I will still give 5 stars despite having to wait with a reservation. The food was so good! My husband and I went for our anniversary and shared the Papaya Salad and Crispy Golden Rolls which were both really tasty. We also shared the Pad Siew for our entree which was the perfect amount and tasted so good. We wanted to also have dessert and ordered the mango sticky rice. 2025 seemed to be the year of Anajak, given that it was all over social media. Interestingly enough, you either think it's amazing or over-hyped. I think I fell somewhere in the middle. I made a reservation about 2 weeks out for a Friday night 8:45pm slot. They seem to heavily overbook because even though we arrived on time, it took another 20-25 minutes for us to be seated. The outdoor patio had a more casual vibe to it - plastic chairs and backyard heaters - but still cute nonetheless. We were perusing the wine list when we were greeted by the sommelier who asked me a few questions to get a general idea of what we were looking for. He brought us a mid-price Riesling which paired wonderfully with the bold and spicy flavors for our meal. Our waitress Jasmine was wonderful and gave us a run down of the menu and how many dishes we should order. We ordered the Kampachi crudo, Peruvian scallops, Thai fried chicken, Grilled cabbage, Radish & cucumber salad, Grilled branzino, Dungeness crab fried rice, and Spicy drunken noodles. I will say this might have been a bit TOO much for three people, as we did end up taking the rice and noodles home. Highlights for me were the Kampachi, scallops, fried chicken, branzino, and fried rice. The radish & cucumber salad was good for fresh bite, but not something you must have. The cabbage was good but sadly tasted way too much like gas, assuming from the charring. And the drunken noodles tasted like something you would order from a take-out Thai place - so not necessarily bad, just not AMAZING. I think what makes Anajak special is their sauces and emphasis on bold, bright, and fresh flavors. The nam jims were what took these "simple" dishes to the next level. All in all, I think Anajak is definitely worth the visit. There are a few more dishes on the menu that I would like to try, so I see myself coming back in the future. read more

I went in with high expectations for the #10 spot on LA's Best 101 Restaurants list, especially after hearing so many great things and having sampled their food at the Best 101 event a couple of years ago. I was really looking forward to finally dining at Anajak. The seating felt a bit cramped, with tables so close together that it almost felt like we were dining with the people next to us. As for the food, it was good overall, but it didn't quite have the "wow" factor I was hoping for. We ordered some of the classics--southern fried chicken (which had a great sauce), pad Thai, drunken noodles, and crispy egg rolls, which ended up being my least favorite. The service, however, was a highlight. Our water glasses were always full, the staff checked in frequently, and I appreciated having someone guide us in choosing the right wine for our meal. All in all, it was a solid experience--I just expected it to be a bit more memorable. read more

This is literally one of the best meals that I've ever had. Every single item we ordered was amazing. We got the papaya salad, the fried chicken, the Bronzino yellowtail and the grilled cabbage with pad Thai. You will literally go through a roller coaster of flavors and emotions while you're here. The experience you gets here is one of a kind. Our server Hannah was also amazing. She made the whole experience so much better with how sweet and attentive she was.
