The flavor of the pad see ew was soooo delicious. There wasn't a ton of broccoli in the dish, but the beef was so tender! The papaya salad was refreshing and crunchy. Not too spicy, just right. I would 100% recommend this place. I would go out of my way to get takeout from here. I can't believe I've been sleeping on this place! Pretty decent food although when you tell them you want it mild it is still spicy. So I would say three stars for food quality but I am leaving one star because they are always closed for some reason and no one is ever sure if it's a temporary or permanent closure. Wow, how did I never hear of Now On 9 Thai Bistro? I've driven by it so many times on Riverside Drive, but clearly never opened my eyes and looked in their direction. In search of a quality thai restaurant's chicken pad thai for a New Years Eve gathering, I called in an order. Their line was busy, but I'm glad I called again. Service was amazing to say the least, with direct communication to ensure that they could complete the order within 20 minutes - thankfully I had 45 minutes. They do keep a credit card on file for in-person payment, as is standard; I ordered a large pad thai tray, and despite working alone, the staff member offered to carry it for me to my car. Now for the interior, it is on the darker end, featuring shades of dark brown. Though I didn't dine in, I know I'll be back after trying their delicious chicken pad thai. Unlike normal pad thai, the ones served here dished out a mean wok air, as Cantonese people call it. Unlike normal pad thai, the one here was also more balanced in flavor, not overly sweet, and pleasantly tangy and savory. Despite costs, they provided a generous portion of egg and chicken. And without even asking, they even provided lemon and crushed peanuts on the side. A+ service, A+ food, will be back! read more

I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, it fell short. I ordered the tofu cashew nut dish, and while it wasn't horrible, it wasn't great either. The dish lacked flavor, the vegetables seemed undercooked, and the cashews tasted almost raw. My side of white rice was stale--not the fresh, fluffy kind you'd expect. On top of that, none of the food arrived hot, which was a big letdown. Everything was already lukewarm. There are too many great Thai restaurants in Los Angeles for me to consider coming back here. Comparing it to another Thai spot I visited two weeks ago, the difference in flavor and food was apparent. As for the ambiance, there's outdoor and indoor seating, and they had nice Christmas decorations, which I appreciated. The decor is cute, and a big front patio. The food was mostly good - the garlic noodle sauce is incredible but could use more bot choi (like 3 pieces and then tons of noodles), and the rice chicken egg dish the egg IMHO should be runny so it gushes over the dish instead of fully cooked. I'm bummed by use of disposables (yuck) for everything - water, cutlery, plates, etc. I don't get take-out for this very reason and part of the appeal of sitting in a restaurant is proper plates and silverware. For starters, you need to try their Roti Bread with Yellow Curry Sauce which is Asian pita bread slightly pan grilled served with yellow curry sauce. Great flavor and starter to your meal. Their Bangkok Fried Fish which is Golden Fried hand-battered fish are stir-fried with garlic, onion, scallion, and dried chili has a crunch and freshness that will have your taste buds flowing with joy. Stayed at the hotel a few steps away and this place did not disappoint! Our waitress was so nice and accommodating. We had a little group of 3 adults and 2 kids, sat outside and had a great meal. Dishes ordered: NOW fried rice (chicken, beef, onions, shrimp, tomatoes & scallion), red curry chicken w/ rice, golden wontons, NOW on set (chicken satay, sticky rice & papaya salad), noodles, Thai iced tea & a couple of waters. Huge portions, so we had enough to share and even took some back to the hotel! The food here is great BUT there are a lot of negatives. #1 is they are always closed. Like they close for half the year while they travel back to Thailand. Every time I drive by it's closed and now I just saw they are closed until April (it's January!). How can you run a successful restaurant if you keep shutting it all down? #2 is they used to use nice glass and porcelain dishware to serve their food. Porcelain plates and bowls, etc. However, since they came back from their long trip in 2024 they have been using disposable paper plates, plastic bowls, plastic utensils, etc. Food is served to your table in disposable plastic and paper bowls. This just takes away from the feeling of being in a nice restaurant plus everything is contaminated with hot plastic. I'm giving them four stars for the food in case you are ever able to eat it. We made a new run for thai. This time it was Now on 9, which is in a tiny strip on Riverside. Parking in the back. Onto the dishes 1. Tower Tofu Crunch- my friend loved it. Me? Fair. The design amazing. It has Tamirand with crushed peanuts and Tofu. The Tofu was firm but it needed to be soaked in the sauce and it wasnt. Thus it was not a win in my book. Yes you can slather it in the sauce, but it just didnt soak it up. 2. Coconut Soup - if you like sweet soups you will br in heaven. My friend got it and LOVED it. He went with chicken as the protein. The soup also had mushrooms and bay leaf. I tried the soup, it was well, Im not a fan of sweet soup. 3. Pad See Ew - WInner. It is not spicy, so the flavor profile includes sweet black soy sauce. Okay that is the sauce. Comes with broccoli and egg. I went shrimp. Good size for the dish. Its a large portion, so leftovers are essential. 4. My friend slso went with some sausage dish which is in the appetizers. Im flexitarian so im a big no on pork. He loved it. It comes with some bean thing and a salad. And yes, it looks like something you are probably thinking of. Again, he really liked it. Service is great. The ice tea had a nice flavor to it, it was almost spice with a bit of citrus. Excellent. I wish they stayed the same!!! I had noticed that they were closed for a bit then saw it was open recently so I had to visit. I guess they switched the setup where you pay first and then they bring out your food in plastic plates. I do have to say I really disliked that because the food is super hot and in plastic didn't feel comfortable eating it. Everything is already in to go packaging doesn't make you feel like you should sit down and eat there anymore. I used to love the authentic silverware they had. Probably one of the best thai food place iv been to in a long time. They have a big parking lot right next to it so you will never have any parking problems. The restaurant has a lot of inside and outside sitting area. The service was great. We were approached immediately and taken care of. We ordered 5 plates of food for 3 people. The portion sizes are great and can feed a group of 5 easily. The food came out in around 15 minutes. Everything tasted amazing. We got wan tons, red curry, ribeye salad, orange chicken and fried rice. Everything tasted amazing but i would 100% recommend the ribeye salad. I started off with the Steam Chicken Dumplings, which were tasty The Curry Noodle Soup was delicious and the flavor of the broth is spot on. This is a fantastic dish. The Pepper Garlic with Beef is loaded with great flavors and the broccoli was perfectly cooked. I also enjoyed the Shrimp Fried Rice. Everything tasted great. We were lucky enough to be taken here by two of my friends from Thailand, who are regulars here. What a thrill, it was like an extravagant feast of food that just kept coming rolling out of their kitchen. My friends told the owner, to bring out whatever they wanted and their friends want to try some really authentic Thai dishes. Well, it was just amazing, the dishes were flowing and I kept looking up towards the kitchen, to see what was next, it was very exciting seeing all the dishes on the table. I have taken photos of everything that was so beautifully presented. I would not know how to order these dishes again I'm sure, since I'm such a regular for Pad Thai and Pad Woon Sen, which are both delicious noodle dishes and never try anything new! Came late on a Wednesday night, around 11pm. There was a couple of tables getting ready to leave. The menu had a lot of options but we decided to go with: 1. Red curry w/ chicken - 4/5 It was great in flavor! It was a bit too watery for my preference but that didn't affect the flavor at all! It had a good amount of protein and vegetables 2. Crispy Garlic Pork - 4.5/5 The garlic flavor was so good! It comes with the classic thai style fried egg and also some steamed vegetables (cabbage & broccoli). The pork was just the right amount of crispness to it as well. 3. Pad Thai w/ beef - 5/5 This is one of my favorite places for pad thai now! I usually never order this because it's so basic but the wok hei flavor was FIRE! The noodles weren't overcooked, so not mushy at all. 4. Tom Yum Noodle soup - 5/5 I've never had tom yum soup so light in color but the flavor was so good! It had a lot of toppings in but nothing that overpowered the soup. I would 100% order again Overall: Service - 10/5 Our server was so nice and attentive! We ordered 4 dishes for 4 people but the space was tight so she offered to add a table for us so we could be more comfortable. She left a pitcher of water at the table for us but kept coming back to refill it for us. Portions: 10/5 The portions were pretty big! The food is excellent. Ordered the green papaya salad and Pad Se Ew with chicken. So much food I brought it home and had it for lunch the next day. The salad was very fresh. I ate inside where people are spread out at wood tables. It a very basic design - a very local restaurant with great food. Server was just lovely - don't know her name. 4 for the food, 3 for the melting plastic packaging Food is good - ran more on the sweet side. I had the tom yum which was flavorful - a little sweet. It's mostly broth - it just had mushrooms and for $2 I added shrimp which was nicely cooked (but not deveined which is my preference). I asked for spicy and it had a lot of chili powder in it which i liked. I do prefer the chopped fresh chilies though. I also had the panang curry - good flavor but also on the sweet side. The tofu was soft and not fried which I didn't love but the curry had a lot of good flavor. And lastly I had the papaya salad that was also pretty sweet but fresh and good and spicy as I requested. My biggest issue with the takeout is that the plastic containers the curry and soup came in were warping from the heat which always makes me worried that chemicals from the plastic are getting into the food. I looked it up online and most sites say if plastic is warped at all, don't eat from it. So I won't be ordering from them again despite the food being good. I'm too paranoid about the plastic.
