I have been a loyal customer of Tamale Kitchen for years. But lately, the increase in prices and the DECREASE in the food you receive is ridiculous. The majority of the staff is not friendly and I can deal with that, but when prices keep going up and you receive less and less product, it's time to move on. I have attached a picture below on tacos I bought today. The lettuce and tomatoes are served separately to be fair, but the meat and cheese that I received is a joke. I will be making the drive to any other tamale kitchen over this one. The food is average until you find out they do not clean or sanitize anything. Gordon Ramsey would be disgusted. On top of that their staff is rude. I witnessed them being extremely disrespectful to a customer for the short time I was there. It was a very uncomfortable experience to say the least. If you are going to offer breakfast burritos all day, then make sure you provide them all day! I arrived at 5:50pm - closing is 7:50 pm Ordered 2 egg/potato/sausage special burritos. Got home and my burritos consisted of French fries on top of very little sausage, NO EGG! Do better! I am still in disbelief that they wrapped this crap up and said it was a breakfast burrito! Went into this tamale kitchen for the first time. To start off with the young cashier is very rude when taking orders and shows she doesn't like working where she's at. Most disappointed part was I kept calling this location since 8:30@ when they open at 8 I called a total of 8 times before driving to this location after placing my order I re called while being in the lobby and watched how an employee (guy with black hat colored hair) silenced the phone after the first ring. I called again (3) more times and watched how the phone was no longer ringing. Service could be better definitely better than this. Could have saved me time plus drive if they would have just answered. Only person actually doing her job was the cook (older Hispanic lady) supper nice when grabbing my order. This place is so so. Customer service is always stiff, never friendly. They give zero salsas with food purchase, tiny tiny cups cost 25cents. My food here is ALWAYS Luke warm, even cold. I've only been a few times but afternoon or morning: it's always cool. This morning I stopped by for a breakfast burrito and the inside was so cool it couldn't even melt the cheese I added to its insides. :( yuck. Frankly this place comes off very miserly with questionable quality. They put nothing but potato and egg plus meat in the burritos. No cheese, sour cream or salsa. No salsas are included on the side, as I mentioned. There are signs instructing customers not to take drinks, not a common thing anyway. And lastly the dark haired cook gets reeeeeally sweaty as he's leaning over the food, cooking it. He needs a bandana or something, it's drippy and the reason I won't be back. read more

Hadn't been to Tamale Kitchen (usually it as the location on Kipling and Bellview), until today! I visited the Quebec and University location. It did not disappoint in the way that only Tamale kitchen can! [Yes the flavor is great for most things. I say this because I was born eating this type of cuisine everyday. Nothing compares with home cooking.] When I say they did not disappoint it is in a completely facetious manner. I hadn't been because1) the takeout containers at the time I was a fairly regular customer ALWAYS spilled out into the bag. I had 1/2 the sauce/chile ended up in the bottom of the bag. 2) The persons who work the counter I have felt have always been on the churlish side and today was no different. It's like they send all their employees to a trainer who may be of the same ilk. I always thought it was the way I set the bag in my car although only TK takeout has ever been spilled over. I took to keeping a box in my car to level out the things I carried strictly from Tamale Kitchen. What do you know. This location put the food in a Styrofoam container. I was careful how I drove around the corner from their store and where I placed the bag on the floor in the box. Once again I arrived around the corner to a bag full of smothering. This place is my favorite for tamales! I see a lot of negative reviews here complaining about pretty much everything but the actual flavor of the food. This is a no frills, counter-service tamale/burrito specialty place, so know what to expect. I come in for breakfast frequently and am never disappointed. No, you will probably not be able to order via phone because usually it's extremely busy inside and they're dealing with in person customers. Yes, there will likely be a line to order again because it's popular and delicious. And yes, you'll have to wait a few minutes while they whip up your order (which is fastest if you don't try to customize or complicate your order). And while there are a few locations, these are still mom/pop style so please cut them a break if they need to close early given even big chains are facing staffing issues. They work hard in there. All of these things = the tamale kitchen experience and I don't mind it one bit. Overall it's still relatively quick (you get your food faster than at a sit down restaurant, but obviously slower than a fast food place). I've loved tamales all my life and these are truly some of the best. Never dry, always flavorful. I also love the green chili here. Less of a stew, more of a sauce style. Literally do not know what's not to like. If you're coming here for a cute atmosphere, date night, or for exceptional service, look elsewhere. If you are coming here for great tamales, tacos, etc, you've come to the right place. The prices are fair, the beans are the best ever, and the breakfast burritos are to die for. My go to is an egg, potato, bean burrito special (chili inside rather than on top) without cheese and with pico. Their pico might be the best I have ever had and I could eat it on its own. I have never had a bad meal at any of the TK locations and I've been at least 100 times. Literally. In short, I would continue to be a repeat customer and would recommend it to others. read more

I find it quite funny how people find their signs of "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" offensive. Smack dab in the middle of an affluent neighborhood, and exposing liberals and their sensitivities. I tried this place despite the hurt feelings of California transplants snobbery. I found the employees very helpful, efficient and personable. The smothered breakfast burrito was enormous and filled with bacony goodness. So much that I couldn't finish it. Delicious! I try not to wander too deep into liberal neighborhoods, knowing how violent and intolerant they are, but I would risk a few bruises to enjoy another burrito from this place. This has been my go to place for burritos for about 7-8 years, fortunately it was a small and otherwise unknown place that no one really knew about; my get away. I went to college and came back and now it's filled with high schoolers who have found the hidden gem, so here I am, boosting this business in hopes they build more locations. I have traveled the world, ate many burritos. But at the end of the day, I know where my loyalty lies. Breakfast burritos are one of my favorite things in the world. Tamale kitchen does it right! The food is cheap, fast, and delicious.. what else can you ask for? I give it three stars b/c I've had better breakfast burritos before.. but for the price, tamale kitchen is definitely worth it. Beware, not all Tamale Kitchens are the same. Several things I would like to point out: For $5 I was able to order ONE Egg, Potato, Bacon, Cheese "Special"(w/Green Chili inside) Extra Hot Burrito. This is where things are financially different; at the Northglenn location I can get TWO of the same aforementioned burritos for the same price, $5. Okay I get it, charge more if you can get it. But this is where things are really different, the food itself. I will give it to the HR location, their burritos are significantly larger, but they are all filler Potato, you easily get lost in the amount of potato inside of this burrito. Whereas the NOrthglenn location serves a smaller burrito, it is filled with the good stuff; more egg, more chili, more bacon and less of the filler potato. I wont be going back to the HR location unless I am desperate or craving a large expensive Potato burrito. read more

i'm giving a higher star rating because i feel like it was just not the persons day. So i love this place! i rave about the breakfast burritos because they're scrumptious fast at delivery, and never had a complaint until just last week. I came in, in the afternoon and asked for a breakfast burrito. The woman asked me if I wanted sauce on the burrito. I told her no I wanted the sauce on the side. i asked her if it was possible to actually make the tortilla a little crispy because nobody likes a soggy burrito. when i picked up my order i got to my car and it was all dumped into the plastic bag it was placed in. She had actually smothered my burrito with the sauce that I asked her kindly to please place on the side. My husband went back in and told the women the burrito was wrong and the women yelled at him saying no she ordered this. My husband proceeds to tell her that I didn't order that I ordered it with the sauce on the side she then raised your voice at my husband who mind you is a doctor and doesn't really do well with confrontation. He just kindly left the bag on the counter and walked out. She didn't even make me a new burrito. The thing is, is she needed to listen to what I said because what I had said was put the sauce on the side. Not on the outside of the burrito on the burrito in a Styrofoam box. It meant no sauce on the burrito at all place it on the side in the plastic 2 oz cup that ya'll give me every other morning. He was completely embarrassed with how he was spoken too. I'm not quite sure why she asked me what I wanted if she never intended on giving me what I wanted in the first place. Next time please don't raise your voice to my husband and actually pay attention to what your customers really are asking for. They also sell rice and beans in pints and quarts and makes it convenient for take out. I use to buy breakfast burritos from here...they were just ok. Today I was shopping near by so I ordered a smothered chicken burrito. What a mistake! First let me say that I am long time customer of the Lakewood location.. been going there at least 15 years. We go every Saturday morning for breakfast burritos and Mexican egg rolls and love it! I went to the Highlands Ranch location to get 2 dozen Mexican egg rolls for a potluck at work. I've been bragging about them to my coworkers so I thought I would treat them. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. The egg rolls were WAY overcooked, nearly burned. I was embarrassed by the quality and didn't want to serve them to my work family. In addition to charred egg rolls, the taste and smell from the oil was awful. My guess is that this location doesn't change the oil in their fryer very often, if at all. One of my all time favorite places for quick, not fancy, Mexican. I think the food deserves more than two stars but I'm very discouraged that every time I call to place a phone order - not a soul EVER picks up. You would think phone orders would be in fact "welcome" as their menu indicates but it's super hard to do if no one answers the phone. Instead we have to battle the soccer crowds in the middle of a Saturday when it could just as easily be a quick pick up. Definitely think this is an easy fix - management, do it! We had eaten here before because my grandson liked it. It was fast and ok, but hadn't been in for months because the food wasn't good the last time. Yesterday we stopped in for a quick after school burrito before his wrestling match. We stood at the counter for 6 minutes while the cook waited, also, to make our food. The counter person was on the phone standing right in front of us on the Phone taking an order for 2 days away. There was a woman behind us also waiting. We left regretting we ever stopped in. We had used up our time for a quick 5 minute burrito to go & he had to go to his sports event hungry. I couldn't believe how rude the counter person was! He looked at us several times and just ignored us for 6 whole minutes. He could have asked the caller to hold, taken our order, gave the cook something to do, and my grandson would have eaten. In my check in status I made the comment they had run out of cheese. Well, the cheese arrived seconds before our food was ready. So we did get that cheese. The lady taking orders was slightly nicer when I went to order another taco for my kid. We had a ground beef taco, meat was very dry and looked like chopped up pre made hamburger patty. The little container of sauce was spicy and really good. The meat needed it! Enchilada, ordered the ground beef because remember, when we ordered they had no cheese. I really wanted to try the enchilada sauce. It was spicy and had a slightly tart taste. It was good but I could understand why some might not like it. Crispy chili rellano, it was cooked a little to crispy. The green chili made for a good spicy dish. I don't think a single person I came in contact with was polite or at least a little warm.
