Friends recommended Tamarind Kitchen and it did not disappoint. We arrived early and they were able to seat us promptly. Service from start to finish was exceptional. We ordered the Chef's Tasting Menu and it was quite good. I found the butter chicken was slightly bland for my tastes and the pepper sauce for the prawns was not my favorite. Everything else was spot on and delicious. I had a Hibiscus cocktail to start; a glass of Valpolicello with my meal and a glass of Sauternes with dessert. It was a bit too easy to hear the other tables around us, so a bit noisier than I'd expect for an upscale restaurant. I would gladly eat here again.

You can't find Indian food like this in the States! Every dish was beautifully presented, with flavors that are bold yet delicate. Truly a unique and unforgettable experience.

I just have to start off by saying that this isn't the best Indian cuisine I've tried in London; that being said, it's also not the worst. It really depends on what you order. They have just about everything you could want on both the drinks and food menu. The problem is that only a few of the items really stand out and make you feel like you're getting what you paid for. This restaurant also encourages sharing, so you may want to bring a friend or two to get the most out of your experience. I only tried 2 of the cocktails, and while they didn't taste bad, there was something missing in both of them. If you like a good Old Fashioned, however, they have a Ghee-Washed Old Fashioned with fig liqueur that went down smoother than most I've had. Wine is also available by the glass or bottle. The food menu is almost panic-inducing with how many options there are. You can either go for one of their fixed menus where you get to choose one of a few items as a starter, a main, and dessert. Or, you can opt for the À La Carte and enjoy a bit more variety. Most of the things my friend and I ordered were pretty good, but nothing enormously special. Most things were either too spicy - mind you, we both like our spicy foods, so this was a bit much - or just underwhelming, like the Venison Kebabs that lacked a balance in flavor. The best thing I had was the spiced broccoli. As weird as it sounds, I've rarely tasted such a crispy and satisfying vegetable. The space itself has its own charm. It's part restaurant, part kitchen. So, if you like to watch your food being made, you're in for a treat. If not, you'll most likely find this place distracting.

This was a pretty solid dining experience, though given the choice between here and Jamavar, I would probably choose Jamavar. Still, service was good, the setting was nice, and most of the dishes were quite good. And the Ghee-Washed Old Fashioned was spectacular for a pre-dinner drink! Cheers!

We went to Tamarind for dinner last night and they had some of best food I've had. Ever. The Kebabs, the Lobster, the Lamb Chops, and the Chocolate Cake. All amazing. The Prawn Curry, however, was too hot and slightly watery.

Lobster... amazing and just a bit spicy... the perfect amount ...

Excellent experience. Incredibly helpful staff. The food is great and the ambiance is lovely. Centrally located, easy to get to.

Delicious one Michelin star experience! The food here was fantastic, the drinks were creative and delicious, and the service was great. My spouse is Indian and we were both pleasantly surprised with how delicious and authentic the cuisine was, I guess to be expected from a one Michelin star restaurant! We especially loved the cocktails. One of the cocktails we ordered was fat washed with ghee which lent the drink an incredibly complex flavor profile. We will definitely be back next time we're in London.

Awful that they don't allow kids under age 10 for dinner. We were so excited to have Indian for dinner. They should really rethink this!

We had a private downstairs room that felt very classic London--cozy, intimate, and with ceilings low enough that the "watch your step/head" warning is definitely real. The food was fantastic across the board, and the cocktail I ordered was just as good. What really stood out was the service. They handled a large group effortlessly and made the whole experience feel special. Pro tip: if you're deciding between lunch and dinner, the lunch feast is a much better value and still feels like the full Gymkhana experience. I'd absolutely come back.

For me, Gymkhana absolutely lived up to the hype. Although they offer a set lunch menu, I went à la carte to try exactly what I wanted: Chicken Butter Masala, an Indian Onion & Green Chilli Salad, and Garlic Naan (which I appreciated they offer in single pieces). For drinks, I started with their signature Masala Margarita, paired the meal with a Salty Masala Lassi, and finished with a Masala Chai. It was more food than I usually eat, but it was too good not to finish. Every dish was outstanding--bold, layered flavors with distinct character. It really highlighted how exceptional Indian cuisine can be. The drinks had creative twists and complemented the food beautifully. Service was warm, attentive, and efficient without ever feeling formal or rushed. I could tell the staff would gladly accommodate special requests if needed. It was all very deserving of its two Michelin stars. Total bill: GBP 94 including drinks, service, etc. One tip for first-time visitors: go easy on the rice and bread. The other dishes are far too good to fill up on carbs.

I went for the bottomless chai , which is an absolute must and it was really good. They serve it in a glass , which to be honest feels a little bit convenient since it's piping hot. We got the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan (nothing to write home about here). We also got the Samosa chaat as an appetizer, which me and my sister both enjoyed. I also decided to get the chicken ruby curry, which seemed to be very popular across all the review platforms. It was.... OK. lol. Overall, none of the food here is bad. It's just I think this establishment gets so much hype for what it is. This location is particularly historic as it was built on a trade spot between Indians and the British; the place maintains most of the architecture from more than 100 years ago. Service here is pretty good too. We walked in on a Sunday afternoon and were able to get high table seatings.

One of our group has a tomato allergy and we weren't sure how much of a selection he would have. The waitress went back and redlined the menu to show what he could have, what he couldn't, and what they might be able to alter. Super nice and it didn't take more than a few minutes. As for the food, a-maz-ing Indian. I recommend their prawn special - not too spicy but very flavor forward. The naan was a nice side to order as well. This location is fairly big with seating on the main floor, downstairs, and outside in a cover lounge area. We had a reservation, although they probably could have handled us if we didn't. My dining companion ordered a margarita that came straight up with a smoky paprika, sort of rim. I ordered the Mojito. They make their own Mojito mix and it was exceptional. Just a little hint of mint, but the excellent drink. Our bartender did not steer us wrong. We sat outside and ordered the okra appetizer, tikka masala, lamb chops and naan. Our wait staff said we were ordering a very small amount of food. I thought it should be enough, as we had a large lunch. She was kind of insistent, but maybe she was just trying to be helpful. The fried okra was amazing. It was like french fries but with okra. There's just a hint of spice very very crunchy and delicious. The rest of our meal came. I really should have asked about the spice level, but I did not. The menu didn't say my dish was spicy, but it was far too spicy for me. Since our wait staff did not come back to check on us there was not much I could do. However, I did flagged down another waiter and asked for some raita. This helped but I don't like the burn so I was pretty much done eating at that point. My sister's lamb chops were very tasty but overcooked for my preference. But we weren't asked how she wanted her lamb chops so there you go. I bet this is a phenomenal restaurant if you like a high level of heat. And maybe on a night when they weren't so busy and the wait staff stretched so thin. I will say I thought the cocktails were exceptional. And our bartender was great. I would really give it a 2.5 but there are no half star so I'm rounding up

They had the perfect amount of grill flavor and were very saucy and well seasoned. There was no classy way to eat them--they were that good. For our entrées, we ordered the goat shoulder and the half rack of lamb chops. The half rack is more than enough for one person, especially with naan and rice. The reviewers were not lying when they said you must try the lamb chops. They came out sizzling, and we laughed because it took us back to dining at Chili's (iykyk). Perfectly seasoned and incredibly tender. The same goes for the goat shoulder. This was my first time trying it, and I was very impressed with how good it tasted. While I'm not usually a dessert person, you must try the carrot pastry. Think of it like a McDonald's apple pie (the old-school one), but with warm carrot filling on the inside and a sprinkle of pistachio on the outside--just 10x better. Everything here tasted spectacular, including the chili naan. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes.
