    Tandoori Paneer

This was our second time dining at Tamarind and we've been highly impressed both times. The food is absolutely delicious. This time around we tried the Tandoori Paneer, the Palawan Chaat and the Paneer Pasanda. All were absolutely spot on. Great quality, spiced perfectly, good portions. This is the first place I ever tried a Lychee Martini and I instantly fell in love with it. So yummy! My now 12-year old son was with me on both visits and they were very attentive of that. The owner even came by last time to talk to "the young gentleman", my son of course was staring at a screen at the time and received an under the table poke to get him to pay attention which I hope went unnoticed. The owner and staff were all very nice. The restaurant is nicely decorated, but definitely got busy. We were seated near a couple of big groups and they could get a tad loud but that is to be expected. Whenever we make it back to NY, we'll for sure plan another visit. Or if the kind owner is open to expanding and adding a restaurant in the Bay Area, we'd for sure be regulars.

Should have been warned by other reviews. Everything is fine but nothing extraordinary, but not fine for the price. Any other regular Indian place is better. Lamb Vindaloo - fine, very spicy. Shrimp Tandoori (not on menu) - it was good but nothing special. Vegetarian Nargisi Kofta - prob the worst kofta i have ever had, so mushy... Zameen Doz Sole - tasted very similar with Kofta, I'd appreciate they told us that. The Sole was thin and deep fried. Chicken Tikka Masala - maybe the best thing! Onion Nan, Garlic Nan, Roti - were all not outstanding. For the price, it's for the area.

Tamarind Tribeca continues to impress, even 15 years after opening, and remains one of New York City's premier destinations for refined Indian cuisine. Founded by Avtar Walia, Tamarind was conceived with a clear and ambitious vision: to elevate Indian dining to the same fine-dining echelon as Michelin-recognized French and Italian restaurants. That vision first took shape at the original Flatiron location, which earned a coveted Michelin star and helped redefine how Indian food was perceived in the U.S. When the Flatiron restaurant closed, Tamarind's legacy carried forward seamlessly to its expansive Tribeca home at 99 Hudson Street. The Tribeca space is both elegant and inviting, with high ceilings, large windows, and an open tandoor kitchen that adds energy to the room without sacrificing sophistication. The menu reflects a deep respect for regional Indian traditions, executed with precision and contemporary finesse. Each dish showcases thoughtful technique, balanced spices, and a level of polish that is still surprisingly rare in Indian fine dining. And the service is world-class. For anyone seeking an elevated, nuanced, and consistently excellent Indian dining experience, Tamarind Tribeca remains a benchmark--proof that great restaurants don't just endure, they evolve.

Our experience ultimately didn't line up with the solid reputation this place has. The place is upscale with a great atmosphere and ambiance. We were welcomed by half a dozen staff as we were led to a room at the back. Service was good. While our server didn't check-in regularly and I just had to make the slightest gesture and someone would notice and either come to us or send our server. At one point, one person came in and said they were going to adjust the table, which was rocking although it was not something we had noticed ourselves. The point of failure for us was the food. We ordered the Shrimp appetizer, which had a mild tikka masala-like sauce. The big shrimps themselves didn't have the flavor and it was clear they weren't even cooked in that sauce, only dipped in before serving. Add it would turn out this was one of the best of what we had. We got the Kerala Fish curry, Punjabi kukkad, which is just chicken curry, the Okra, the Pulao and garlic naan. The Punjabi chicken curry was completely uninspired. It was large unflavored cubes of chicken in a basic chicken tikka masala like sauce with a higher spice level. This would not be found in any Punjabi household, I'm sorry to say. It got worse with the Kerala fish curry. I had one spoon and my mouth was on fire. Now, being of Indian background, I've grown up eating curries and spices. No one would accuse me of not being able to eat spicy food. I'm happy to go eat Dave's Hot Chicken, and I joke with my friends that I could drink Sriracha. This wasn't the case of too high heat level. The combination of spices was just overloaded. The bhindi and Pulao were also too high in spice levels but weren't as bad. We asked for Raita to balance it all, but this was a meal that was ruined. We got the Ras Malai, which was really nice and helped things cool down. Even as we were leaving the restaurant, my stomach was getting upset. I could make it only 10 blocks before needing to get to a bathroom. Both of us were not well. We couldn't understand what happened. Was it only our food that got double, triple spice levels? Other people seemed just fine. My partner would go back because of the solid reputation and to give a another chance. I'll go to Edison NJ myself if I want good food! I'm not doing that again at $200. 4 stars, for the ambiance and service. Minus one for awful spice levels, minus one for making me go the bathroom twice.

We visited this upscale Indian restaurant in NYC for a special lunch to celebrate my in-laws' 37th wedding anniversary and were thoroughly impressed. The ambiance is elegant, spacious, and inviting--with soft Bollywood music playing in the background, adding a warm and pleasant vibe. The staff was incredibly humble and attentive, which made the experience even more enjoyable. What we ordered: (Ratings are mentioned in brackets out of 5) Drink: Cucumber Gimlet ($14) - Refreshing but didn't quite stand out (3/5) Appetizers: Palak Chaat ($16.5) - Great balance of spice and sweetness, less oily than usual (4/5) Hara Bhara Kebab ($18.7) - Decent flavor, though not extraordinary (3.5/5) Main Course: Paneer Lababdar ($28.6) - Soft paneer with flavorful gravy. We requested medium spice and it was just right (4.3/5) Breads: Malai Naan ($12.10) - Soft, filled with malai, and very satisfying Pudina Paratha - Fresh and nicely spiced (4.5/5) for the breads overall Dessert: Complimentary Mango Cheesecake - A thoughtful and sweet surprise from the staff to mark the occasion. Though prices are on the higher side, the quality of food, warm service, and relaxing ambiance made it well worth it--ideal for a memorable celebration.

Little broccoli tempura with mint sauce

Tamarind was a wonderful lunch spot. The setting felt warm and welcoming, and we were seated comfortably at a booth. We were given a small broccoli tempura in a mint sauce, a light and flavorful way to begin the meal. For mains, we ordered garlic naan, laccha paratha, chilli crab, nalli gosht, mutton champaran, and masaledar chop. The lamb chops from the tandoor stood out, cooked perfectly with juicy, well seasoned meat. The chilli crab had a nice zing that built with every bite. We finished with kulfi falooda, and the pistachio ice cream was incredible, packed with fresh, intense pistachio flavor. Get either the sweet or salty lassi. Highly recommend for a memorable meal in the city.

The food was amazing! Everything was delicious and the staff was very attentive. As we had a larger group we decided to do the tasting menu which gave us samplings of various dishes, it concluded with various desserts. They were even nice enough to give us more of a particular dessert that was our favorite.

I loved this place! It was so classy but still felt like south Asian cultural elements were done really well. For cocktails, I ordered the Tikhi Margarita and the Sunrise in Mumbai. The latter of which was so rich and delicious, especially if you enjoy whiskey that is the drink you should order. For food, I ordered the Malai Halibut and I'm so glad I was able to try to the signature seafood options offered at this restaraunt. Everything was really well done, the only thing I would say was service was a bit slow.

Came here for a client dinner and food was very solid. The restaurant itself has very nice aesthetics and an upscale yet casual ambience. Service was attentive and did a great job of explaining the foods/drinks and recommending the dishes for our table. We got the Prix Fixe menu, which had a variety of different dishes for the table to try. I enjoyed being able to sample a bit of everything that the restaurant had to order, though I would say that it wasn't the most filling meal that I've had. Price wise, it's on the most pricey side for Indian in NYC, but it's expected for Tamarind. Solid restaurant if you want to eat Indian in an elevated ambience.

One of my most favorite restaurants! Once you enter it is a majestic site to behold. Probably the most beautiful and well decorated Indian restaurant in the city! The service is very quick and friendly! The food is incredible, the tandoori items found here are a league in their own and the halibut truly lives up to the hype! Must haves: halibut, tandoori platter and anything from the apps because they never disappoint!

My rating for a restaurant starts with the welcome and the attention of the staff and then the food. This restaurant is well run and there's never a minute when someone is not seeing if you need anything in a very respectful and non intrusive way. Water glasses were refilled quickly as if they were bottomless which is a sign of a restaurant that has trained its staff well. Our party liked both the jaljeera cocktail and the mocktail. The choice of a 16 oz z kingfisher beer and Taj Mahal was very welcome. The tamarind scallop appetizer, murg malova, lasuni gobi were excellent. We were expecting the palak chat to be great as well but the spinach powdered a lot and wasn't as tangy as the rest. Definitely an opportunity here for the chef. Another sign of a good restaurant is the texture of the bread, the nan, rosemary nan and the laccha paratha melted in your mouth which tells me that the kitchen had some excellent talent. Our main course of Nargisi kofta curry, Barwan Simla Mirch and Punjabi Tikhe kabab were fantastic. The Tikhe kabab is the equivalent of Chicken Tikka and was well marinated and succulent. Vicky and team did a fantastic job with service and explaining the dishes. It was great to see Avatar Walia the owner make his rounds greeting guests including us. A classic move with the owner on the floor. On our way out the lady manager even held the door for us showing that they have a well motivated staff. This is an upscale restaurant and you get more value than your money especially if you are going for a special celebration. It's not your let's drop in if we are hungry kind of place. Reservations are best.

This review is for their special lunch and when we visited, it featured the Kashmir Menu. the elegant Indian restaurant located in TriBeCa (10 mins walk from WTC). we missed Restaurant Week but nevertheless, we had an amazing experience here. The decor is spectacular, the moment you enter, you encounter a bar area, with very high ceilings, modern and very elegant, not at all over the top. it seats 150+ people on two levels, the main dining room and the mezzanine. It was our anniversary, so they offered us a corner booth. Here is a booth in which to sit, quiet and slightly removed from the bustle of the rest of the room, separated from others by a sheer curtain. by the way, it is a recipient of a prestigious Michelin star in the Flatiron section of Manhattan, the Tamarind Tribeca, now at its new home is the definitive restaurant where one can experience Indian Cuisine in its purest form with a contemporary touch. We settled and then gave a glance at the Kashmir menu and ordered- * Gushtaba- two big balls of ground lamb with spices... though it was the appetizer, it was too much for me and I was almost half full. It might be the case while taking the first bite, you won't like it but later on, it will grow on you- 3.5/5 * Kashmiri Machli- not sure why they serve regular Salmon and no, I do not think it was anywhere near to Kashmiri preparation - it was disappointing - 2.5/5 * Dhaniwal Murgh- Oridinary item, okish- 3/5 * Kahsmiri boti: Marinated lamb, think about mutton steak - the highlight of the meal, medium rare - amazing- 4/5 * Kasoor Halwa (Green apple halwa) and Anjeer icecream in desserts - it was good The overall meal was not too great for us except Kashmiri boti... I gave him feedback (being a reviewer, this is something I contribute towards all business, doesn't matter how big or small the establishment is) they served mango cheesecake as a complementary item for our anniversary. Owner Avtar Walia also came and asked their courtesy question - 'is everything alright" and congratulated us on our anniversary. Meat -- especially lamb -- is both sculptural and tender. Price: $35 PP with tax Ambiance: As mentioned above, Dramatic ceiling-high windows face Hudson and Franklin Streets, adding drama to dining at Tamarind, and L-shaped banquette seating in low booths can be found around many of the windows. overall experience - 3.5/5 but with great ambiance, and top-notch service, I will give it 4 out of 5 ratings. Tamarind is a great place and I highly recommend it, if you want to go to an elegant Indian place.

Came here on a Friday night. Made reservations at 6pm. Was running a little late and had no issues coming 15 mins late. Ordered the Murgh Malai kebab as an appetizer. The chicken was juicy and tender and complimented well with the sauce. Our entrees was the lobster masala and malai halibut with a side of garlic naan bread. Love the lobster masala. The masala sauce pairs well with the lobster. The malai halibut was also soft and tender. Loved how it tasted with ginger sauce. The garlic naan paired well with the entrees. Finish off the meal, we ordered the Black Forest cake and mango cheese cake. Enjoyed both desserts and would recommend getting both. Service was very attentive. We even received a complimentary appetizer and a hand towel before our meal

One of three lamb chops on the appetizer menu. They also serve a lamb chop main course.

However, sometimes you just take a chance and pray it lives up to the hype. Having a short period of time before our show at Radio City Music Hall, two of us shared a quick bite here after a few snacks on the nearby street fair. Just one order of Chicken Tikka Marsala, Garlic Naan, and a Mango Lassi. I'm actually not a big fan of Chicken Tikka Marsala because it's often too sweet and creamy for me. Though the chicken was overcooked, I did find this version quite differernt, in a good way. It had depth, and definitely a lot of heat, even on the medium level, the spiciness was very noticeable. My dining partner would have died without that Mango Lassi, which was yummy. Lmao On the other hand, the Garlic Naan was horrible. Instead of being a pillowy soft bread with some chew, it was stiff and cardboard-ish. This is one of the worst versions I had in NYC. Not sure how this major blunder can be overlooked. Naan is such an important part of Indian food culture, I can't believe they haven't realize that they need to fix this matter. Btw, service was efficient, almost too efficient that it felt rushed. One minute after we were seated, we were asked if ready to order. Again, we were asked literally one minute later. Then, just as we were finishing our meal, and while I'm still chewing my final bite of food, the bus boy cane to take our plates away. I was technically done, but would have like to have had a minute. Finally, without asking about desserts, another server came by with our check as if to say, "Please pay and make room for the next guests." I know we wanted a quick meal, but never thought we would be in and out of a situation down restaurant in less than 30 minutes. Hahaha Anyway, I live in Queens where we have same quality Indian restaurants at a much lower price point. Portions are bigger too. For me, this is an attempt at finding a gem that everyone seems to suggest. Unfortunately, it's hard for me to return to an Indian restaurant knowing they can't properly make naan.

Because of its location, it may appear unassuming and underrated, but the food is bold, spicy, flavorful, and packed full of rich cultural elegance. On my first visit, I was able to try a few different dishes, both veg and non-veg, as well as one of their signature cocktails. We ordered to start the Kale Pakora Chaat (fried kale, tamarind chutney, with a sweet yogurt) and it was perfectly crispy, flaky, and delicious. Next, for main dish we ordered the Paneer Methi (fried paneer in a fenugreek and tomato blend) and I honestly can never complain when it comes to any paneer dish and I have to say this one was absolutely no exception. The paneer was so soft and tasty with the sauce and other spices that I couldn't help but feel like I was eating a home cooked meal. Lastly, I ordered the Shami kebab because I wanted to try a non veg dish. This item consists of lamb, minced and blackened, paired with a green chili sauce with mint. I have to say this was a complete miss for me; the lamb was so dry and mealy I couldn't finish it at all, on top of that it had too many spices and was a bit salty in my opinion so I needed a lot of water. I would seriously consider altering this dish before keeping it on the menu in its current state or removing it completely. If you're thinking of ordering this, I wouldn't recommend it as I'm sure they have other protein dishes on their menu that are far better. I'm looking forward to trying some of the others the next time I go. Lastly for cocktails, we ordered the Monsoon wedding (Indian gin, lychee, curry leaf, and lime). I thought the cocktail was alright, it didn't stand out too much to me as it was a fairly decent lychee drink that had a slightly muted flavor. I've noticed that Indian restaraunts often struggle to make good cocktails because too often they rely on mixing things that shouldn't really be mixed and adding unnecessary ingredients. Overall though, the time spent there was worth it and I appreciate that it's relatively easier to get a reservation here than at some of the other Indian spots in New York currently. Based on my experience, Dhamaka should be considered highly rated on that list.

Pellegrino Sparkling Water, Sada Bahar, Paneer Cheese Rolls, Steamed Basmati Rice, Mutton Sukka, and a Limca. For us, the Butter Chicken Wings were the best dish 5/5. The Paneer Cheese Rolls were also really good 5/5. Those were definitely the two dishes that stood out the most. The Braised Nihari was around 3/5. The meat itself was good, but there were so many spices that it was hard to really taste the flavor of the meat. The Laal Ishq was also about 3/5 for us. We like flavorful food, but we felt that the amount of spices in several dishes covered up the actual flavor of the ingredients. The Mutton Sukka was okay, but again, we felt it was pretty heavy on the spices. The Naan was good, especially the garlic naan, but nothing particularly memorable. The Steamed Basmati Rice was probably 2.5/5. It was just okay, and we felt it was overpriced for what it was. The drinks were actually one of the better parts. The Sada Bahar had a really good flavor, and we enjoyed the Limca and sparkling water as well. Our biggest issue with the food was that the spices seemed to overpower the actual flavor of the food. We don't mind spice or heavily seasoned food, but we would have preferred a little more balance so we could actually taste the meat and other ingredients. Sometimes it felt like we were tasting the spices more than the dish itself. We also got so full from the food that we didn't have any room for dessert. Overall, we can see why GupShup is popular. It's a beautiful restaurant, the service is excellent, and it has a fun, upscale atmosphere. We also know it's a popular spot with celebrities, which probably adds to some of the hype. For us, though, the food just didn't live up to all the positive reviews we had read. Nothing was terrible, and there were definitely a couple of dishes we really enjoyed, but overall we expected more from the food. Beautiful restaurant, great service, good drinks, but the food was just okay for us.

However because Indian food has complex flavors in general, I feel like fancy chefs tasting version was less impressive than other cuisines (bc Indian food is already sho good lol). Still this was really delicious, like legit the best Indian food I've ever had for sure for sure. Some notes on food: - pumpkin & coconut shorba SOOOOO GOOD... i've had starter broths and consummes but this was probably my favorite, it was warm and hearty and flavorful. - jackfruit: decided to give this a try and it was most definitely worth the try.... not sure how tf they cooked this but it was so good - lobster tail: cooked to perfection but more importantly the sago and the sauce were very delicious. i told sam he could have most of da lobster but i just wanted more sauce - then when I was thinking i was pretty full they gave us these 4 dishes. the naan(??) was just ok a lil too doughy but holy the dal moradabadi was so good just on its own too - makhan malai: SO FAT AND HUGE AND JIGGLY LOL. at first the saffron & cardamom flavors were a little too sudden but it grew on me almost instantly and the texture is actually godly like so airy and soft and whipped as hell. I could've had another fat bowl of it but also it was comical how much they gave lol.

Very good food. Interesting Indian dishes and for the quality and quantity, the 3 courses is pretty…read morefair pricing and also definitely enough food for 2 people. The starters were the pumpkin soup and the blue cheese naan. The soup was very yummy and had a nice flavor. The blue cheese naan was very potent. For the starters we chose the tofu and the potato sphere. The tofu was crispy and had a really nice texture. Never had tofu like that before. The potato sphere was also super interesting. I wish it had a filling though. The middle dish we got was the yogurt kebab. The texture of the yogurt was very interesting. The sauce was pretty spicy but again another dish that was super interesting. For mains we got the lamb and the paneer. The paneer texture was good and the sauce was very yummy as well. The lamb was very tender and was very delicious. The roti it came with was also so soft and delicious. The green chutneys were my favorite. The chicken kulcha and black daals were also good. Personally loved the black daal and the garlic naan the most. I think these two dishes could have had more flavor. For dessert we had the black rice cake with the rice pudding. The black rice cake flavor wasn't my favorite. The rice pudding was great. They also surprised us with an extra birthday dessert which was the saffron foam dessert. I really liked this one and the flavor was super interesting. Service was great all night. The only thing throwing me off was the b health rating. If you're looking for an upscale Indian restaurant to celebrate something this one is great.
