Our son wanted to take us here for an early Mother's Day dinner and I have to say I was surprised at how good the food was! I wasn't expecting it to look so pretty and taste so good! Dorothea's is a nice white table cloth restaurant that feels upscale but still homey enough to bring our soon to be 2 yo grandson. We had: Steamed clams 5/5: The clams were prepared, presented and flavored well. There were 2 clams that didn't open so it would have been nice if they just removed them instead of tempting us to pry them open (which would be bad clams) but the other clams were so good we wanted to open them! The sauce was a little too wine-y for me but I can see how some people would enjoy dipping the bread they give you into it. Crab mac and cheese 5/5: Wow. The bechamel sauce was so rich and creamy! Good chunks of crab made this mac and cheese so decadent! Greek salad 4/5: This was fresh and tasty but I was a little surprised by how small the salad was considering all the other dishes have such an amazing price point! It would serve once person well. Lobster pasta 5/5: Nice spicy kick that hits you later. Good chunks of lobster and the pasta was so light! I forgot to ask if it was fresh pasta or not. Maybe a question for our next visit! Niko gyro 5/5: the meat was good but what made it amazing was all those nice shoestring fries on top! The fries also had some kind of spicy pepper on top that gives it the extra kick! Traditional gyro 4/5: This was just your traditional gyro with fries. It's good but it doesn't seem fancy! Overall I love this place! The price point is amazing and if we have the time I would definitely like to come again with the family. Overall: Dorothea has decent food but there are definitely better restaurants in Albuquerque. What sets it apart is the ambiance. Food: 3.5 We ordered just about appetizer on the menu. My favorite were the little neck clams, lamb lollipop, and Greek plate. The Saganaki, crab stack, and tiropita were just okay. Lamb Shank: This was one of the best entrees ordered. The meat was fall apart tender and flavorful. The orzo was a little watery but was cooked to the correct doneness. Branzino: I assumed that this would be a whole branzino fish but they had already taken it apart which was nice. However, there were a couple of bones that were missed. Crab Mac: This was cheesy and very good. My only grip is that the pasta was a little overcooked. Service: 5 The servers were patient with all the questions and orders from a big group. They did not make any mistakes and food came out at good intervals. Ambiance: 5 The restaurant would be perfect for a date night. I had been eyeing this place for a while now and ended up going here for my birthday dinner! We ordered the long stem artichokes for an appetizer, they were okay. I wished it was the actual artichoke, missing those being from California. I got the whole branzino with the lemon caper butter and broccolini and it was very good. Flavorful, cooked well and good portions of both. My guy got the lamb shank with tzatziki and lobster mac n cheese. Both were great. He was disappointed that the lobster wasn't mixed in the potatoes, but I thought it was better that way so it wasn't over cooked. For dessert we ordered the vanilla cake with orange marmalade. The cake was warm and had a bruleed crust under whipped creme. Was very nice end to the meal. The ambiance was nice, fancier than what I was expecting. The waitress was great and the guy filling up my water was killing it! The place was super loud on a Friday night, definitely not a great place for date, can't barely hear anyone at the table. Dorothea is beautiful inside. We were really excited to eat here. But we struggled with the food/service. There was very under cooked (uncooked) food that we asked if they would cook. The sever did not seem pleased. It's so embarrassing to ask a restaurant to cook your food. That kind of set the tone for the night. None of us really wanted to eat after that. Favorite date night spot! If you haven't tried the food and cocktails at Dorothea you are missing out on an experience! We loved the duck confit tacos that are served on slices of jicama. The Grilled artichokes with Meyer lemon aioli were smokey, zesty and earthy. The lamb lollipops were perfectly seared and well seasoned, juicy in every bite. The traditional Greek salad topped with delicious feta was a great addition to the meal. My Husband raved about his pork chop and broccolini. Every morsel was gone. Wine list could be improved upon but is understandable being that NM has controlled alcohol distribution, would be nice to see more CA reds that pair well with the amazing lamb shank (Syrah) We started with clams to share, they were a little heavy on the white wine, wasn't cooked off, could have used a little more EVOO as they mention on their website; Bread had nice texture, salmon was fresh, lobster Mac should have a good Guyuere bechamel, this sauce was a little flat. Overall, the lamb shank so far is probably one of their star dishes. read more

The food is incredible, and honestly the only reason this review has 3 stars. The food carried this experience. The remodel is beautiful and the restaurant has an upscale feel with food that is on par with the ambiance. The praise ends here, however. Nothing else about this experience was on par with the prices. After being seated we waited 15 minutes before someone dropped off water at our table and told us that a waiter would be with us shortly. In another 10 minutes, someone who still wasn't our waiter came and asked for a drink order. When the drinks came out 20 minutes later, they were missing ingredients as listed on the menu, so we had to wait another 10 minutes for them to ask us how they were before we could ask for them to be fixed. Note that this is almost an hour into our experience and we have not met our waiter. When our waitress finally arrived she seemed less than enthusiastic to be there, and didn't really come back after taking our order - someone else dropped the food each time. When our appetizer plates got pulled they took our silverware, but when our entrees got dropped off, we had to wait another 10 minutes to ask for silverware to eat our food. Basically you should expect to do a lot of flagging people down aggressively and asking for attention, even by doing these things you will be at the restaurant a long while. It really made the experience a poor one despite the fact that the food was great. I hope that they are working out opening kinks, though it seems like these should be ones they've already worked out. They have the same advantage as Vintage 423 - they don't really have any competition in this area. So here's to hoping that the service reflects the prices and is on par with the food soon. read more

New spot we decided to try for dinner! It was very good, did not have reservations so they could not sit us in the main area, but we were able to sit in the bar area. The main dining room is very nice and modern but quite small with not many tables, so if you have a preference make sure to make reservations ahead of time! As far as the food goes everything was great! Food came out quickly, for appetizers we got the Duck tacos and the lobster mac and cheese. Both so good. The duck tacos are a mix of savory with a fresh twist from the jicama. The mac and cheese was very cheesy which we love. For entrees we got the gyro and the lamb shank. The gyro was great and served with french fries which were seasoned very well. The lamb shank was also great, the only thing was that it did not have enough of the sauce. Oops! I just gave a review under the old restaurant! Ok, so this place is fabulous! Don't let the exterior fool you! They have upgraded the interior and the food was incredible! My friend and I got the grilled artichokes, so much flavor! We also got the Greek plate, and I was a huge fan of the SPICEY , whipped feta with peppers! Also the spanakopitas were delicious! This plate was enough for two to share! There is plenty of parking and again, don't judge it by the outside - it is beautiful inside and the food is better than I remember. I ordered the 5 oz filet they sent it out with a pile of feta mashed potatoes that was so salty I couldn't eat them. the amount of potatoes on my plate was laughable. the plate there was no presentation. I can't believe the chef let that plate out of the kitchen. the outside of filet was charcoal burnt horrible! worst meal I have eaten anywhere in Albuquerque! the music was good other than that I will not go back there. read more

We went to dinner here recently and did not realize that this place had replaced Mykonos. The food was very good; the table mostly tried Greek dishes and a lobster pasta. We all enjoyed and liked what we had. The dishes were reasonably priced based on the portions. I've talked to a friend who said they had a fish and a steak dish at the new restaurant and that they were excellent. They were very busy and it took a bit to get waited on but they were very attentive once someone came to the table. It has a very nice ambiance. It's was very crowded and luckily we got the last table in the bar. I highly recommend trying the restaurant and getting reservations to make sure you can get in. read more

It was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Our server took our drink order. We did the signature drinks. Dorothea's dirty martini was to die for...do it! Put in a order for the grilled long-term artichokes on a bed of arugulla...outstanding and a basket of bread. Put our entire order in. Restaurant started getting busy. Came out a little slow from the kitchen but we were in no hurry. Restaurant was filling up. One of us got the wild mushroom pappardelle. Flavor excellent but pasta was way over cooked. Ordered a Niko Gyro...very dry. I had the slavlaki Gyro plate and it was perfect. We were celebrating a birthday and shared a slice of the White cake with raspberries. Delicious as well. The waitress apologized for the slow service, the kitchen was overwhelmed. I will definitely try Dorothea's again. As I said, flavors overall were good. We visited Dorotheas this Friday and the experience was not pleasant. When we got there we waited up front for the host for almost 20 minutes without anyone helping us. However, the waiter and the busser were very kind and patient with us. Our waiter, Daniel, was helpful with the menu and worked hard to make our visit better. The filets we ordered were cooked perfectly and everyone at the table was raving about the crab cakes and the duck tacos! The Greek salad was unlike I'd had before. Not a salad. Just chunks of tomato and cucumber with feta and dressing. Not really a salad. We had branzino which was good but over seasoned. It looks the same aesthetically, which was always nice (though the bar side is very, very dim), but the menu is much more limited now, the food isn't as good, and the prices have gone up pretty significantly...but for what? I think the part that disappointed me the most was what's supposed to be spanakopita. It's an almost burrito-sized hunk of slightly cooked spinach (barely seasoned and leaves almost whole) mixed with what tasted like cream cheese wrapped in filo dough. This is a pleasant venue with tasty food. I ordered the Niko Gyro, but missed that it just came with shoestring potatoes and hotter peppers than I was expecting. I was hoping for a little more vegetable matter with my meal. Regardless, the food was very good. It's quiet enough for a conversation and on Friday night we were able to hear the band. My friend had the souvlaki gyro platter and really liked it. First off, the food is 5-star. Just divine. More details on that later. This is all about the service, which was lacking on just about every front. We were seated a few minutes after 5. We got water glasses at about 5:15. Ok, not outstanding, but understandable. And then we waited. At 5:30, after several waiters walked past our room, one stopped and did a double take. She came back with another waiter and they divided up the four tables that were all sitting with semi-empty water glasses and not much else. Again, understandable if no one told them four tables had been seated... I've given 5 stars to other establishments with rough starts. But this challenge continued. We placed our drink and food orders all at once to hopefully free up our waitress to serve the other tables. Didn't help. At 6, I got up to get water refills by myself and someone took pity on me. Soon thereafter our cocktails and apps showed up and bought the waitress some more time. At about 6:45, I got up again to get water refills. Our waitress showed up soon thereafter with our food and we were able to order a second round of drinks (which showed up towards the end of our meal). No one checked on us, except one walk by of a lady who appeared to be the manager or owner. At that point we had just received our main course, so we needed nothing else. But she had been walking around the restaurant for the last two hours before we got our dinner, most times with empty glasses, and never bothered to stop until it was evident that we finally received our food. Ugh. Now about the good stuff: the food. We got the Greek platter for the appetizer and it had the best spanakopita I've ever eaten. The humus, the tzatziki, and the pita were all divine as well. We had the lobster pasta (fresh pasta with an almost sweet sauce) and the pork chop with feta mashed potatoes and both were superb. Even the cocktails were done well. It was just the services that was profoundly disappointing. The interior obviously had quality lighting and furniture but the paint job was rough and the music that was flowing throughout the rest of the restaurant wasn't extended into our room so the ambiance was rough as well. Add in the women's bathroom that had a big roll of the brown paper towels placed on the counter top and it definitely did not support the price points the menu was asking for. The next time I spend $200 on dinner, we will go somewhere where the details and service are better thought-out. read more
