Katsu Plate
Holly C.

Stopped here for a quick bite with my husband. We ordered the Pork Katsu Plate and the Spicy Chicken Sandwich with a side of fries. Food took a minute but it was super fresh and cooked well. The Katsu Plate has a little of everything. The egg on the rice was a tad overcooked so we didn't get that runny yolk I was hoping for. The pork katsu was well flavored and yummy. I could leave the weird slaw though. Fries and the sauce that come with it were excellent. The star really is the sandwich. All of the components go well together. Also really love that they have the Stubborn soda. We caught a girl on her first day. She did great with answering my questions. Music was nice. Place was clean.

Stopped by after a walk nearby. The atmosphere was modern, with lots of wood. Service was very friendly. I went with the pork katsu sandwich with fries and a drink. The sandwich was good, but I think next time I'll try the spicy sauce option. That seems like it might turn up the flavor a notch. The fries were crispy and delicious, and the curry aioli was great as a dip. I can't remember what drink I selected, but I remember it was good, if a bit overloaded with ice. This place is good, and I'm curious to try their other offerings next time I'm in the area.

Love the strong matcha flavor here, and they have so many options the strawberry matcha was rich and refreshing. I did add Splenda to mine to make it more sweet!

My first time trying this place and it was fine. The chicken curry was a large serving and the pickled cabbage and pepper were a nice complement to the heavy curry gravy and fried chicken. The tofu katsu sandwich was heavily sauced to the point where all you could taste were the sauces. The kale slaw was awesome -- very flavorful with a nice spice at the finish. I was alarmed to see that the plastic bag of curry sauce was just sitting in a hot pot of water; definitely a situation where the bag plastic would break down into the sauce. Seems like a poor food prep situation.

Recently visited Tanaka's location in Bridgeport Village. It is a new modern store, really beautifully decorated and well laid out with plenty of seating. Staff took a second to greet me, but were polite when taking my order at the counter. Food came out quickly and it was well packaged for a to-go order. I have not tried their curry, nor their sweets. I got a chicken and egg sandwich, as well as a tofu sandwich, and a side of fries. I think the sandwich could've used a hot sauce or some additional flavor to give it a wow factor. But everything was good overall.

Tired from shopping?? Stop by Tanaka for Japanese-inspired sandwiches! Located at Bridgeport, this location is great with plenty of seating. They are known for their katsu sandwiches - chicken, pork, fish, shrimp, and tofu options - there is lots of variety. Service is counter service, but they are efficient and fast. I got the chicken sando and it was great! The milk bread was soft and held up well - not soggy. The chicken was thin, lightly breaded, and not too oily. They also sell various Japanese pastries, but they didn't look too appealing. I'd stick with their sandwiches. I don't think they are better than the competitor in town - Tokyo Sando, but Tanaka is a great option for a quick bite in the area!

Strawberry matcha latte was okay! Needed a bit more sweetness. However the drink was 8.00 and the oat milk was 1.50. That's a lot for oat milk

I have very mixed feelings. On the one hand, the location, the seating, especially when the weather is nice gives a wonderful outdoor ambience, especially if there's live music playing across the way. As for the food, the highlight was the egg salad for me. While I thought the sandwiches were unique and the curry rice plate was tasty. I'm just not a fan of the overall execution. 1. Curry was way too strong. I get one has to enjoy the curry with the rice or protein, but when you have to consciously pursue the mixture and can't enjoy the curry on its own, then something is off. 2. Why some people complain the curry is lukewarm or even cold is because they serve on a metal plate that is extremely cold to start with. I don't claim to know the reason, I just can feel the edges are very cold. As a result the curry cools down far too quickly, same for the katsu when initial contact is made with the plate. If you're going for make-to-order for goodness sake, have it piping hot... it should be part of the charm and experience. This is simple management not looking at every detail... the workers do what they are told. Totally brought the experience down several notches. 3. The ebi fry was not available. Prime Lunchtime on a bright sunny Sunday and you don't have a menu item? Hey it happens, but it shouldn't happen if a place is striving for excellence... so there you go... Enjoyed it, just definitely not a place I'd trek all the way to Bridgeport from Beaverton to visit often with this lack of execution. I've had my fair share of katsu and this style of sandwiches across the globe. This just isn't memorable.

The curry aioli with fries is SO addicting. I could eat... way too many of those. The yuzu cream donut was also delicious and had great texture. The chicken katsu sando was decent but definitely not the best I've had. The meat was a little dry and was pretty thin/sparse in the sandwich.

My wife and I are headed to Japan later this year; it'll be her first time, and I cannot wait to show all the wonderful sights, sounds and, of course, tastes! As a "preview of coming attractions", we stopped in for lunch at Tanaka while in the area; similarly, she had never had a katsu sando before, wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but was eager to find out. As she surprised me a bit and went with the chicken sando (which I WAS going to order) with a side of hot sauce, I switched to the potato korokke instead. Each of them was utterly incredible: in the case of the chicken, a delicious crispy fried chicken fillet with kewpie mayo and katsu sauce (which, for those who do not know, tastes like a BBQ soy sauce) and cabbage is pretty much to die for; as for the korokke, it's definitely softer (the potato/veggie "innards" of the croquette are creamy and smooth) punches above its weight with a tangy dressing drizzled over the cabbage. We couldn't decide upon our favorite among the two, and repeatedly shared bites of each. I would order either of them again (or both) in a heartbeat! Service was prompt, friendly, and extremely polite! The décor within is minimalist in true Japanese style, and benefits from natural light and gorgeous surroundings: at least during our visit, it was quiet, serene, peaceful...and when paired with the perfect weather, was like a silent oasis sequestered away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the shopping arcade. Even more than she was before, Tanaka has made my wife more excited for our trip to Japan, thanks to its authenticity (and deliciousness)! If you can't make it yourself to Japan, Tanaka will get you half way there, flavor-wise.

Visiting Oregon for the weekend and happened to come to Bridgeport Village to visit some friends here. Came by for a late lunch and was pleased to find Tanaka. I like chicken katsu sandwiches and I also like egg salad, so I ordered their sandwich which had both which you can option out with a spicy sauce for a nice kick. The value is pretty great here because you can get the sandwich for around $15, but for $7 more, you can get a side like egg salad or fries as well as a drink like a matcha latte. No sales tax because it's Oregon, but also another 15% off if you're a veteran or a student. It was quiet and relaxing inside when I ate in the afternoon but was pretty packed when I walked by earlier around noon. Service here is very friendly and super fast too, from ordering to table side service. Shout out to Jessica and Ricardo for being really kind and for the dine-in experience. If you're ever coming to this mall, this place is a pretty solid option from a light to filling lunch. Great for a lunch date with friends, family, or even just by yourself.

It's been awhile since I've been to Bridgeport Village and I was surprised to discover this place there. It's a cool concept with good execution. I like the flow of ordering at the counter, selecting your seat and having your food brought to you. I ordered the spicy chicken katsu combo with fries and a drink and then found a seat outside which was great for people watching. The sandwich was good (a hearty portion), fresh and flavorful but had a little too much sauce for my liking. The fries were perfectly cooked and again, I didn't care for the sauce that accompanied them. But service was good and I'd return to try something else from the menu.

Kale Slaw

Stopped in just to grab some of the chili kale slaw to go and was met with friendly and quick service. Easy snack stop whenever shopping Bridgeport and the kale slaw was fresh and spicy, exactly as expected!

Pork Katsu sandwich. Thin fatty pork. Bleh.

It may have just been our experience, but the first impression wasn't great. Location - If you're not familiar with the area, I highly recommend using GPS because it's tucked away on the corner of a large apartment complex and is easy to miss. It's essentially hidden. There are fewer than a small handful of guest parking spots in the complex, and the rest are reserved for residents. Street parking is available, but that's limited as well. Service - This is the primary reason for the rating. The staff member who helped us came across as less than friendly. Since it was our first time, we mentioned we were leaning toward one drink and just wanted to confirm a few things about less ice and size. He responded with "What drink?" and proceeded as if we were ready to order, without really addressing our questions. It wasn't the words themselves, but the tone and approach that felt rude. When I later asked for a receipt, he pointed to the tablet screen where it mentioned receipts would be emailed, though he did eventually hand me a printed copy. Overall, the interaction just didn't feel welcoming. Drinks - We ordered the Ube Vietnamese coffee with less ice, though it still came with quite a bit of ice. The ube was more of a thick cream consistency, which just isn't personally my preference. The Vietnamese coffee was strong, similar to what you would typically find elsewhere.

I'm been searching for strong delicious coffee for a while now…read more I recently was in starbucks near my house, not where I would want to go for coffee. I asked them this question, and they said you could get a latte or americano. How would so much milk equal strong coffee, anyways it didn't work out. I recalled this place, and that they have Vietnamese coffee.... Now that is strong, and also sweet which is just what I've been searching for. So we came by. My wife got a fruit tea which she said was really good, and I got my strong coffee. I was slightly concerned that it would be so strong my stomach would have issues, but this wasn't the case. It was perfect and also not crazy sweet, like I've had before. They really know what they are doing. The guy at the counter was serious looking but also friendly. The people behind us brought him flowers and then he had a big smile. Sooo, I you want to see a smile bring him some flowers, it was also valentines day, to be honest. If you like coffee with actual flavor, come here. I'm wondering if they sell decaf. I do really want to come back and get some salted egg cream!

It's bright from the windows and welcoming. The baristas were very nice and patient. I never felt rushed or felt annoyance from the folks behind the counter. That particular location is a bit out of the way for me, but luckily they have several locations around the Portland area. For my caffeine fix, I got an apple strudel latte with oat milk. My first cup tasted like bananas so I first checked the description and it didn't say banana in it. The person behind the cash register saw my quizzical look and asked me if everything ok. They were very kind and offered to remake my drink. Unfortunately, they made the orange chocolate drink for my remake and so had to remake the drink a third time. My drink still tasted like bananas and I decided to just not follow up. There is a banana drink on their menu and I'm curious if there was just a cross of flavors from the things they used behind the counter somehow, like if the apple syrup is housed in something that used to be for the banana flavor. I'm not a banana person so I really did not enjoy this drink. I can tell the coffee itself is good, but I can't get over the banana. I also got a breakfast melt sandwich. It was cheesy, eggy, and the bread had a nice crunch while still being soft on the inside. Good sandwich, nothing out of the ordinary. I appreciate the packet of cholula on the side.

Not too sweet and you can definitely taste the dark chocolate. It was so good! Lots of room to sit down with plenty of small tables and a large community table. It was a rainy day, but there is also lots of outside seating and a beautiful mural to state out while having your drink. Parking is a bit tight at times as it's downtown Tigard, but we managed to find something nearby. Great place to have a conversation with friends it even get some work done.
