This is a small little Indian restaurant in Oakhurst. I always order food from here every time I come up to Bass Lake. The samosas are delicious. They are huge. Both of the sauces that come with the samosas are full of flavor. I always order the dal tadka and the mixed vegetable korma. The food is consistently fresh and flavorful. Were full of cream and hardly tasted any spice. Complained about it and a 42 yr old Indian got schooled about how a Korma tastes. Wasted $50 here. This is only the second place that I've ever visited for Indian food. Compared to the first place this place was a bit of a let down. Honestly I have no complaints about how the food tasted or the service. My main complaint is the price to quantity ratio. I had the chicken tikka masala with a side of rice, garlic naan, and a coke. For the whole meal it cost $25. The portions were pretty small for the price. I feel like it should have been at least $10 dollars cheaper. The other place I went to the naan was like a fluffy bread but this place the naan was more like a tortilla. The food did taste pretty good though and that's the only reason I'm not giving it lower rating. Side note: This location is in Oakhurst up in the mountains. I understand that things cost a bit more there due to the inconvenience of shipping goods there vs a bigger city in the valley. 1) Food - really delicious and authentic Indian food. We ordered goat curry with traditional Indian sauce and chicken biriyani - both are superb. Their meat both goat and chicken are so tender that you can't stop eating them. 2) Staff - nice and friendly but not being able to explain the menu clearly. For their curries, you have to choose 1) meat, 2) the type of curry sauce, and 3) the spiciness level. 3) Environment - the restaurant has a very strong spice smell inside. While visiting the area, stopped here for dinner. Unsure what to expect, we ordered Chana Masala & Chicken tikka masala. We also ordered the garlic naan. The dishes were served with a side of rice. The food was splendid. The Chicken Tikka Masala was tender with delicate sweetness. The Chana Masala was delicious ( if you like chick peas). It had a mild flavor and I especially enjoyed the hint of cilantro. We ordered both of our dishes "mild" spicy and it was perfect for us. Not too hot but with a hint of heat. The naan was perfectly toasted, buttery, and with a great garlic flavor. Service was friendly and attentive. Nothing over the top. Casual but willing to provide anything you needed or asked for. What more could you want?!! The ambiance is simple and casual. I loved the little Indian decorations throughout the restaurant. It was friendly. The day we visited it was a little warm inside, but clearly not enough to deter us. We would certainly come here again. Delicious Indian food!! I called in for a takeout order of the chicken curry (traditional) and vegetable samosas. The chicken in the curry: so tender and juicy, I was really surprised. There were no fatty or stringy pieces of chicken, which I greatly appreciated. The vegetable samosas were fried perfectly, it was my first time trying them and they were really yummy! Had a job in Oakhurst so stopped here for lunch with my partner. Almost empty restaurant so immediate seating, average food, with good service. The goat cheese naan didn't really taste that different from regular naan, so I'd definitely save the money next time and just get regular. The korma was really good, but pretty light on the meat for the price. The saag was the most disappointing. Lamb saag is usually one of my favorite Indian dishes. But the way it was prepared here would convince me to not order it again. There was very little meat and the dish was mostly full of extremely thick spinach puree. The flavor was ok, but it was really overpowered by the bitterness of the spinach. Every other saag I've had is more of a sauce than a porridge. I'll definitely come back, because saag isn't the only delicious Indian dish, I'll just have to try something different. read more

Stopped in for some take out. When staying in the park everything is so far away. While running in errands in Oakhurst we started thinking about dinner. A quick check of Yelp found Tandoori Express. It was easy to find on the main drag. We were welcomed quickly and warmly to place our orders. The staff made suggestions and didn't make fun when we ordered tika masala and butter chicken with no spice like the basic folks we are. Food was done in a quick 15 minutes. Before heading out they were sure to offer us plates and forks to go. Clearly they are used to the to go customer. And, without surprise we loved the food. The onions and garlic flavor of the tika masala definitely beat the butter chicken. Both so yummy, just a small victory of one over the other. read more

In the search of good Indian food we came across this place and thought of trying their food. We ordered Paneer tikka masala with garlic and butter naan. Paneer tikka masala was really disappointing!! They served this very sour and little bitter curry with no character and just 4 pieces of paneer. I couldn't taste anything but sourness. Naan on the contrary were soo soft, very nicely cooked and just the way you expect them! So these two stars for excellent naan and nice staff. We didn't eat rice so can't review it's taste but it did look good to us. I think they need to change the recipe for their curries especially the paneer tikka masala. My one mini complaint is that the garlic naan, wasn't garlicky enough or that they may have gotten my order wrong. Stopped by to grab some dinner for the family after a long hike in Yosemite. The smell was fantastic -- you could even smell it from outside. I ordered for a group of 6. 1. The guy made me pay 15% gratuity fee. I asked him why when I was taking this as a to-go order but he said it's required. So I ended up paying an extra $23 to take food home. 2. We went over the order twice, just to be sure cause it can get confusing. Got home and realized that the meals were not labeled. We all got some type of curry and honestly had to start taste testing to figure out which one was which. We had a variety of meats so distinguishing between goat and lamb was difficult. Chicken was thankfully a bit easier but this could have all been avoided. 3. Overall the flavors were good. Someone in our group did say their mild curry was too spicy for them. Definitely, this place doesn't get anywhere closer to the taste of indain cuisine. Just to give you an idea, chicken was either cooked days before ( it's not juicy, we couldn't cut them with the spoon or even with the knife) or they over cooked it, we had to waste one order of chicken tilka masala. There is no hint of butter in the butter Naan. Don't get fooled with the crowd you see outside. They didn't have enough space by the front desk, and we had to wait outside until the table is available. I think this is such a great tactic by the owner to create an illusion of popularity. Unfortunately, we fell in the trap like many did. Don't expect the tourist place standards should cut low as the restaurants inside yosomite serve better food when compared to this one. One of the supervisors was checking with us about the quality and service of the restaurants and requested us to reach him if there are any concerns. But, look at this one.. The long weekend menu is restricted, only Nan variety and a few curries, and none of them do justice to the taste of indian food. Better go else where. Some of the best food in Oakhurst. Open later than most restaurants, which is smart. This is the perfect place to go after a day at Badger Pass or exploring Yosemite. The heat scale is pessimistic. If you want real spice, you will have to be expressive to that end. The vindaloo is excellent. Butter chicken (off menu, but they will happily make it) is very good. The show-stopper, however is the chicken Rogan. If you get it spicy enough, you will have a perfect blend of ginger, garlic and capsicum. The chicken is fall apart tender. I have yet to have anything here which was not good. This is a sure bet. read more
