Tandoori Fire is an easy spot to like, especially if you are in the downtown Sacramento area and want something flavorful without overthinking it. The menu has plenty of options, so there is something for everyone. A few dishes really stood out. The chicken korma and tandoori chicken were both incredibly tender and packed with flavor. The tandoori fish was also worth ordering. The garlic naan was especially well done. It was thin, slightly crispy, and had just the right amount of garlic. It satisfied the craving without being overpowering. Honestly, it would make a great base for a pizza. Service was solid, even with a larger group. Everything came out in a reasonable amount of time and the staff kept things moving without feeling rushed. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions. Our meal ended up costing about the same as grabbing a couple of drinks and a snack at a cafe, which made it feel like a great value. Really solid Indian food downtown, the default spice level on the chicken tikka masala was higher than I expected, but it was nice and tasty. The chicken curry was definitely more mild, but flavors were good, naan and chicken tandoori were also pretty good. My food came out on time and prices are pretty good. Tandoori and curry oh so delicious. We got 2 set of those, lamb biryani (this is also delicious) and wash it down with chai masala. The food here was so good! My boyfriend and I stumbled across this whole in the wall and WOW so happy we did! The food was incredible and I highly recommend their lamb dishes!! He went back to the kitchen and talked to the cook and came back and told me no. My understanding is flour isn't traditionally used in the sauces but was thankful that he confirmed. We just had a first takeout order from Tandoori Fire which was sadly disappointing. The naan was overcooked, the white meat chicken was very dry, and the dark meat chicken was chopped into very irregularly sized pieces and fatty. Lastly, we requested mild spice but because the food is clearly prepared in large batches, the dishes were still served at their standard level of heat which was surprisingly high. I usually don't leave a negative review but there were so many issues in this one meal that I am very surprised by the preceding reviews. Ordered the Non Veggie Thali and Dahi Bhalla appetizer and enjoyed them both. I recommend this since you get three dishes (chicken curry, butter chicken, and tandoori chicken) with your meal and biryani and naan. That's why I like thalis. You get to try different dishes. If the average price of a dish is $18, you get more bang for your buck with this. My favorite was the chicken curry. Perfect flavor and spiciness. The butter chicken was on the salty side and wanted more flavoring on the tandoori chicken. Glad I ordered the Dahi Bhalla which are veggie balls/dumplings in yogurt sauce that's sweet and tangy. Drizzled some of the yogurt sauce on the butter chicken and that balanced the saltiness. Food didn't take a long time to come out. Place is clean but a little dim. Been here a few times for to-go grub. Service was pleasant and staff were friendly. The place has nice ambience for quiet dinners & romantic dates as well as a nice lunch vibe. My friend and I were walking by and decided to stop in and check Tandoori Fire out. We had to wait a bit to be seated. It's a pretty decent sized space which is nice. You don't feel like you're sitting too close to other customers. However, that's about the only positive. We didn't really care for our meals which took about 45/50 minutes to come out so keep that in mind. Everything was either way too spicy or dry for our liking. I got the fish and it was pretty hard. My friend got the chicken and let me try some. It was so spicy that I had to drink my water and hers! Service was ok. Definitely seemed like other people that were dining in were treated a little better. I have been meaning to try this place out because it launched recently. Walked by on Thanksgiving and noticed it was open. Went back home and later in the day I placed an order for pickup on Doordash. They never confirmed the order so I assumed they closed early or forgot to click to accept. No problem, I walked over 15-20 minutes later to find out. They didn't have the order ready, but I mentioned what was in it and they took 5 minutes or so to get it together. Walked back home with a mango lassi in hand that was a nice balance of yogurt and fruit. The chicken tikka masala was solid with some garlic naan. Only complaint in terms of the food is that I got 2 samosas and fries for the vegetarian appetizer sampler which doesn't match up with the menu description. I also didn't receive rice or see a way to add it to the order. After they called me twice and left a voicemail requesting to mark the order as complete but I have no way to do that because they didn't confirm the order on Doordash in the first place. Not going to rank them too harshly on that because I suspect they will get this sort of thing figured out in time. We ordered delivery and we couldn't specify spice level based on their DoorDash setting but it was a medium that was great for most of us. Chicken tikka masala: love the fennel, nuts, and range of flavor. Not average CTM. Daal Tadka: so comforting with rice on a cold day. Aloo baingan was delicious. Medium spice. Loved lamb biryani. Higher spice level, like medium-high. Kids loved mango lassi. Salad is tomato, green bell, onion, lemon. Typical for desi salad. Great mixed into stuff but don't expect it as a side salad on its own. Chicken pakora not great. Dry. We ordered chicken tenders for the kids but got pakora replacement. Not recommended. They were out of fries so can't comment but another item we wanted for the kids. Butter Chicken: 10/10, loved it. Again, just a tiny bit of heat, overall great. Basmati Rice: It's rice. Fluffy, no frills, portioned for 3-4 people. Last week there was a $18 Thali lunch plate being advertised in the window, but when I popped in to grab it a few days ago, the paper was missing and they told me they were 'out of it'. I'm guessing it wasn't profitable enough, but still, it would have been a great option for a solo diner. I walked in around 1 PM and the restaurant was mostly full. The staff were very friendly and the food was quick, roughly 15 minutes from the time I ordered. The flavors of everything was spot on and is exactly what you want from Indian food. There are a few reviews complaining about portion sizes and I think that mainly stems from the price. I could be wrong, but I remember the Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala being $18 and not the $16 that's shown on the Yelp pictures. If you're skipping naan and rice, you'll probably need one entree per person, but otherwise, 1 entree is probably enough for two people. I have two minor complaints. I wish there was a Thali option or a lunch plate. Lunch for one (one entree, naan, rice, water) will be about $25 before tip. Second complaint, there needs to be some noise dampening. I had a birthday party here with a reservation for 15 people. I was calling around early the week of and struggling to find a restaurant that could take such a big reservation. They immediately accepted and called later in the week to check in with me and confirm. My party trickled in late and the staff were so kind and always checking on us, but not rushing us in anyway.
