They had a decent selection, alot of vegetarian options like chickepeas lentils n veggie curries along with some fried stuff, had goat curry,butter chicken, tandoori chicken and some fried fish. Their naan was pretty good, soft and crispy, they didnt refill it. Also had mango softserve! It had pretty good flavor, it was very soft tho, like very melty. Food overall was decent, good flavoring, goat and chicken some pieces were tender some werent. I would def rec coming early for the food to be fresher? I didnt see them refill much so idk. Tonight was our night on the town. My husband wanted something close and a place we haven't been to in a long time so we decided on Pooja. It's close by and they have a private lot so I had no issues parking. Parking is a big thing in my life when it comes to my turn to drive. I knocked another of his suggestions as parking was questionable there. When we arrived we were able to get the first parking spot. I though the place was going to be empty as we got the prime parking spot. As it turns out there was a party of 8 already seated when we arrived and another person picking up a to go order. A couple more people came for to go orders while we were there. While we were there we weren't joined by any additional diners. It may be because we at so early. We arrived at around 5:15pm. Early for a Warm and Sunny Spring Day. We ordered the Maharani Dinner. It included Samosa, Chan Masala, MatterPaneer, Navratilova Korma, Naan, Rice, Raita, and rice pudding for dessert. It was plenty to share and only $19.99. We also ordered the Lamb Saag Wala with the creamed spinach. He thinks there was a whole pound or more of spinach in that dish. We ordered the Dinner Medium Spice and the Lamb Saag Wala. I think we should have gotten them both medium. They were really good. My favorite dish was the Chana Masala. I've seen some people order this Dinner on there own and them and their companion both get a Dinner, but we feel that is too much food so we share a Dinner and still have some to take home as we always order an additional dish to go with it. If we didn't order an additional dish we would finish the Dinner. The Dinner is such a great deal. Soon as we discovered it we've been ordering it every time. They also have the Maharaja Dinner for $24.95 and that is the non veg variety so it comes with Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Seekh Kebab, Butter Chicken, ect. Both are good choices. For drinks my husband ordered the Mango Lassie, it came warm, he asked for a glass of ice half way through and poured the rest over ice and it was much better. Glad I found an Indian Lunch Buffet for under $20 with a good variety of dishes. During my visit, they offered Butter Chicken, Chana Masala, Dal Makhni, Saag Panner, Zucchini, Rice, Biryani, Bature, Mini Vegetable Samosa, Vegetable Pakora, and Fish Pakora. They had salad options on the side with Pickle, Chutneys and Raita on the side as well. Desserts included Kheer, Gulab Jamun and Mango Ice cream. Everything was delicious. Pooja Indian Grill has a pretty cool story. They were originally on Florin, then closed, and later reopened here. From what I understand, even after the previous owner sold, the food still carries a lot of that same flavor, whether through the recipes or because he still cooks there from time to time. Either way, the food is still really good. The naan is excellent, and the chicken tikka masala is absolutely bomb. The atmosphere is okay and nothing too special, but the food is what brings you back. My mother especially loves their malai kofta and shahi paneer, and both dishes are amazing. Overall, this is a really good spot if you care more about flavorful, satisfying Indian food than fancy atmosphere. read more

I just had lunch here with my sister. This is our favorite go to Indian food spot. The staff is so nice and the place it well kept. The food is alway so fresh and I leave here in a food coma. We tried the buffet. However we arrived at 2pm unaware the buffet would close at 2:30pm. There was no warning until 2:30pm that the buffet would close and no further access. That was fastest buffet ever. One plate for each of us. Not really a buffet at all. Recommend arriving by at least 1:30pm or ordering off menu if arriving after 2pm. ok- here's is another update. 2 years ago when it reopened after the pandemic, the food was just so-so. Hence, why i didn't return until today. So the food has improved. Many dishes were no longer cold, there was actual some "spice" , "flavor", "distinction" between the dishes. The goat was very good, the butter chicken were pieces of breast meat - a little dry but the sauce helped, the tandoori chicken consisted of legs/thighs, but were a little dry but had flavor, the cauliflower entree was very good with tender and flavorful pieces of cauliflower, the fried pieces of fish were warm but a bit over cooked, and the naan bread were the best thing: hot, full of flavor, and quickly devoured by all of us. Their mango soft serve ice cream was the perfect ending to our meal. overall - much improved. will return again and will provide pics next time. read more

This was by far the worst Indian restaurant I have visited in the past 20 years. The food was completely unhygienic--cucumbers and tomatoes were nearly frozen, the fruit had an unpleasant smell, and the paneer was extremely rubbery and fake. The naan had a strange taste, and the biryani was completely bland. Every single dish was disappointing and felt unhealthy. By mistake, I walked into the kitchen instead of the restroom, and what I saw was shocking--it was a complete mess and absolutely filthy! To make matters worse, the staff warned me not to let children run around because the floors were dirty and had glass pieces. I looked down and actually found a piece of glass! This is beyond outrageous. How is this place even operating under such hazardous conditions? This restaurant needs to be reported to the local health authorities immediately. This is hands-down my favorite Indian food in the area. Everything is consistently flavorful, much more so than any other Indian food I've had in Sacramento. I've even picked it up or had it delivered for office lunch and everyone flips out over it. It amazes me that more people don't know about it. You can either order off the menu or choose the buffet; we wanted to have the lunch buffet. They will bring water and naan to your table. They have about about 15 items to choose from for their buffet. I am not an expert on Indian food, so I tend to just try a bit of every dish. Chai tea is one of my favorite things to drink, so I particularly love this buffet because it is included. They also have a mango soft serve ice cream for dessert. Their AYCE lunch buffet is back! Hurray! We went to lunch at noon on Tuesday. The place was packed. I was surprised it was so busy. But after trying out the food, I knew why. Their lunch buffet offerings were plentiful. They had 4 main entrees: butter chicken, tandoori chicken, fried fish and goat. The butter chicken and fish were very tasty. They had 2 types of rice, 2 types of pakora, 4 vegetable items, 4 desserts, including mango soft serve. They also had a little salad bar and chai tea. When we returned to our table, there was fresh naan waiting for us. We tucked in and really savored our meal. I'm not able to eat really spicy food, and the food wasn't very spicy, but it had a nice heat to it. I definitely broke out in a sweat after finishing my meal and needed to cool it down with mango lassi. Along with the food, the staff were also very friendly. They brought out fresh naan as soon as they saw that your basket was empty. They bussed used plates as soon as you set it aside. While the food and service were excellent, parking sucks, especially during lunch. The restaurant is also older and has wet mold smell. Luckily, they kept the AC blasting so you couldn't really smell it. But I've been to dinner in the past when the AC wasn't blasting and the smell is very noticeable. Just finished devouring everything! I haven't had Pooja in so long and it is still as good as I remember! The place is huge, and there is plenty of room! The service was fast and the ladies were very nice! We got mango lassi and hot chai to drink. Hot chai was delicious and mango lassi was smooth and creamy. We got Shahi Paneer and Butter Chicken with garlic Nan. Oh my gosh, the Shahi Paneer was SO SO good! The butter chicken yummy as well! GARLIC NAN ugh, wished I got two more orders! Basmati rice and flavored basmati like Briyani but no meat inside. . Dal which us lentils-spicy and flavorful . Sag paneer which is mushy green mustard green with cheese. . Chick pea curry, punjabi curry which is with potatoes and no meat. . There is plenty of sauces such as mint chutney, mango jam, tamarind sauce, and pickled mango I think. Pooja Indian Grill is one of the best Indian lunch buffets in the Sacramento area. They have delicious food, drinks, service, and a beautiful dining room with comfy chairs. Both the goat and chicken curries on the buffet are very delicious and creamy. It is perfect, in my opinion. I like creamy curries, not extremely creamy, but I don't like some curries just like water. The curries are not overly spicy but with all the flavors. The veggies biryani are very yummy too. Plus, many more dishes are available on the buffet tables. Chai tea and the must-have mongo ice cream are included. The young lady who takes care of the dining room is very attentive. She comes to pick up the empty plates as soon as she sees them, and she also brings the yummy naan to the tables. The dining room is very beautifully decorated. Got there about 30 minutes before closing time so pretty much got left over. The naan is nothing like naan. It's soft and fluffy but not naan. The puris were hard. The rasgulla felt like bread soaked in syrup. The vegetarian options were a little bit better. Talking about customer service. My kids were charged the same price as adult. My huaband who is a bariatric patient and has a medical card was also charged the same full price. Whereas indian and also American restaurant in the bay area charge him kids price. We were rushed because they wanted to clean up. Which I think they should have told us before we got a table that its closing time so you only have say 20 minutes. Finally dropped back in recently for lunch on a weekday. During COVID, they do not have the lunch buffet. Ohh that was a glorious site to behold. But the food is still darn tasty. The waitress was cordial but not very informative. She asked if we wanted the lunch special. There was no menu or explanation of what is in a lunch special. So we were game to be surprised. It is served on a stainless steel divided tray. I got two pieces of tandoori chicken, basmati rice, 2 pieces of naan, spinach, butter chicken, and chicken curry. Mmmm... everything tasted soooo good. Each dish had its own flavor profile. So tasty! Heavenly! The bill came to $13 combo and they charge for extra naan. So when the waitress ask if you want more bread, you will be charged. During lunch, they offer their full menu as well but keep in mind that will take longer to prepare. read more
