Their food is very good, but they are very unscrupulous!! I usually pay by credit when I pick up my food and the owner gives me a receipt from the register, which reflects the total price of the food. But on my credit card statement it appears as a different amount, usually about $3+ more!! I do not pay tips when I pick up the food as a matter of principle. The first time this happened, I was able to get the extra charge reversed, but since then I have been unsuccessful!! If the restaurant wants to charge extra for paying by credit card, they should display this information at their cash register!! This is a very sneaky way of doing business. I've eaten here and picked up take-out multiple times. The food has always been authentic fresh and tasty. Our favorite dishes are Chicken Briyani, Daal Palak and Tandoori Chicken. We've had other items and they seemed solid too. However, we have notice the portioning getting smaller. It's happened twice that we had very small portioning for take out. For their prices, it's not worth it. Rice should come with the meal(as it does at other Indian restaurants I've been to) and the meat to bone ration, well the meat should come out ahead, instead of being all bone and tomato sauce. When you order online or by phone , pick the food up and was being told shortage of chicken this why prices is higher and also there is additional charges if pay by credit card. Went out to try a new Indian place and ended up at this place. Ordered curried chicken and it was very spicy. Also there were many bones, chopped up like Jamacan, that I had to pick out so I could eat it. This may be normal or authentic to the customs of the Pakistani owner, but it was not my personal liking. Also many religious (Muslim) flags and symbols all over the wall behind the register counter. I was not uncomfortable, but if I wanted a Mosque I would go to one, not a restaurant. On the positive side the place was clean and the portions were on the large side. Would I go back? The food was delicious, and staff was friendly and helpful. We got the Tandoori chicken salad, Chaat fries, and the Mix grill platter - the salad and chicken were delicious even after a day sitting in the fridge, and the sauce that comes with the fries is to diiiie for. I decided to give this place a try after all the raving reviews. Customer Service: When I ordered over the phone, the man that picked up sounded uninterested in taking my order. Then when I arrived to pick up my food, I was waiting at the register for a few minutes until someone finally emerged from the kitchen with food to serve to a table. I said hello to this person, but he stared straight at me and said nothing. I thought okay, rude, but at least this food should be great... Food Safety: After he dropped off the food and walked over to the register, he asked if I was there to pick up the order that was sitting on the counter next to the register. I said yes and confirmed the contents of the order. I noticed that his hands were stained a reddish-orange color that you get when cooking with certain spices (i.e. turmeric, paprika, etc.). I do plenty of cooking and am all too familiar with the struggle, but this made me realized he had not been using gloves when preparing food. Then as he's swiping my credit card, I noticed a bug crawling over the same countertop where my food was sitting. The man noticed too and quickly tried smashing it with his goddamn hand. He missed, as the bug crawled underneath the register. It's important that I also note that I've never seen that type of bug-- it was brown and very strange looking, similar to a cockroach but about half the size. Food Quality/Taste: I scanned my takeout bag and contents of food when I got home because of what I had just seen. Everything seemed fine, and I figured if this food is going to give me food poisoning or kill me, at least it will taste great... There it was again, my assumption that this food would taste great, in fact, better than other Indian/Paki restaurants nearby because of these Yelp reviews below mine that tricked me. I had ordered the chicken makhni, two orders of tandoori naan (because I'm a lover of naan), and plain basmati rice. The naan was tough and difficult to chew, so I was left over with hella naan. The basmati rice was meh, it was plain, but I think they may have overcooked it just a little. The chicken makhni was utterly disappointing. It wasn't terrible, but didn't live up to the reviews, and I wouldn't order it again. Price: Yea it's affordable, but not worth the food safety violations and poor quality. I would rather pay double at Himalayan. Needless to say, I won't be returning and the Health Department may or may not be paying Tandoori a visit soon. read more

Ordered mutton Biryani. Came home to find that it didn't have any masala and tasted like white rice. Called them to replace it. They said they don't replace nor refund. Asked for a different dish of equal value. Denied again. They said to bring the Biryani so they can give masala to mix. Worst service. $13 in drain. read more

Excellent food, and a lot of bang for the buck. We got the Chicken Makhni and the Chicken Biryani, and our vegetarian, friend from India got Mirchi Salan. All of the food was excellent. The Makhni was a little bit oily and separated, but that is to be expected of take out food. The Mirchi Salan was very flavorful and had a very nice kick. Everything had a bit of a kick, but thankfully we had some raita to cool us down. We also got the plain naan, which was 1 huge piece per order. Will definitely order takeout from here again. I ordered 3 biryanis from this place for takeout. I had one at night and kept the other 2 in freeze after 2 to 3 hours. And in morning it started to smell and the rice became sticky. When I called them about that, the person who receive the call told me to come and we will give another 2 biryanis. When I reached to the store, there was an aged person who told me that we cant give you. And the shocking part is he told me that you might have kept the hot one in freeze and when I told I kept outside for 2 to 3 hours then he changed his mind and told me that if you take the biryani at night then you have to finish at night only. The food and service were both excellent! We started with a salad of sliced cucumbers, onions and lemon with a tangy yogurt dressing, and vegetable samosas which were absolutely scrumptious! The slightly sweet crust was crisp and flaky, and the filling of potatoes and peas, savory with just the right amount of spice. We also ordered mutton biryani (cubes of mutton marinated and braised in a tomato & yogurt based masala with basmati rice) and bindi (okra cooked in onions, tomatoes, spices and herbs). What we absolutely loved was one of the best Naan bread we have tried in Chicagoland! According to the owners' son (Zahid, if I remember correctly), the Tandoori Naan is made fresh in their kitchen and the delicately charred, slightly chewy and yet soft, flavorful flat bread is worth the trip to Des Plaines! We ordered food yesterday for a party of 10 today. We ordered half tray biryani, half tray tadka dal, seekh kabob and naan. My family and family were so impressed with the quality of the food they all kept asking where I ordered from . It felt like a home cooked meal, made to taste(I had requested everything be spicey) and they met everyone's expectations. The food was packeted very nicely and very timely for pick up time. We stopped here after watching a movie in the cinema nearby. After having quickly perused the rest of the reviews, we decided this would probably be a safe bet as we are quite familiar with hole-in-the-wall type restaurants. As we entered the restaurant around 9:00 pm (on a Friday night) and were surprised by the boring interior, lack of customers, and that fact that there was no one there to greet us. We decided where to sit and waited for someone to hand us our menus. Finally, the server came.. with menus and a pitcher of water in hand. We ordered the chicken biryani and chicken seekh kebab. Much to our dismay, we were informed that the biryani had finished for the day (whaaaat?!). After a little thought, we ordered chicken makhni, chicken seekh kebab, 1 naan and 1 chapatti. We were debating about whether we should order an appetizer.. so, we gingerly asked our server about the stuffing in the veggie samosas have (since we were in the mood for regular aloo samosas). His reply was, "vegetables".. umm, okay. Needless to say, we did not order any. The food came out fairly quickly and was pretty hot. There were 4 small pieces of seekh kebab which is a bit of a rip-off, if you ask me. They were dry and extremeley tasteless. The chicken makhni was a mix of chicken tikka masala and chicken 65. If they were in Pakistan, they would be banished from the kitchen for serving this in the name of the chicken makhni. The serving size was more than enough for two people, however, most of it went uneaten. The naan was probably the only item that we enjoyed. Will we go here again? Definitely not. Tandoori restaurant is an indo-pakistani restaurant that makes a desperate attempt to be restaurant but misses the mark completely. The only decent items on the menu are the pakoras, chapati and veg biryani. I ordered tomato aloo gosh and it was disgusting. It tasted like rotten meat in a gravy. The chicken korma was edible but wasn't flavorful at all. If you really, really, really, really, really can't get to devon or schaumburg, tandoori is a very last resort. Great food for a tiny hole in the wall restaurant!

I love this place! Whenever I'm craving Indian food, this is where I go. The prices are reasonable and they give big portions. I always end up with lots of leftovers. My favorite dishes to get are frontier chicken rice, dal sabzi mix and karahi gosht. My boyfriend loves the green yogurt sauce and can eat a whole tub of it! i'm new to this genre of food (i'm a bit picky, but have started to expand my palate), so i don't have anything to compare it to. having said that, i can still recognize quality food when i taste it. the food at Tandoori is absolutely amazing. a coworker of mine brought me here for the first time, and we have been back probably 8 times in the last three months (which is saying a lot because we work 20 minutes away). the owner is a great guy. service is great. don't expect him or his staff to talk your ear off, but they greet you with a smile and are friendly. he now knows our order before we even place it, so we feel at home here. the Karahi chicken is to die for (my wife's favorite). spicy with a rich tomato sauce that doesn't taste overly tomato-y (i think i just invented a new word). the chicken biryani is amazing. my favorite is the beef Nehari. it's like a pot roast in a spicy gravy of goodness. i am amazed at the layers and complexity of flavors that each dish possesses. spicy on top of savory on top of earthy...the tastes just keep building. the heat level is just right. not too spicy, but enough heat to let you know that you are alive. subtle. each dish is great to stack on the next. the flavors complement each other and really add to the experience. read more
