It came with this amazing chimichurri sauce! They were all tasty! For steak, we got filet mignon, ribeye and skirt steak! We LOVE their filet mignon! The sauce it comes with is super rich with flavors and very savory! The chimichurri sauce with this dish is just out of this world! Skirt steak and ribeye were all amazing but it is just not comparable to the filet mignon! If it's your first time here, definitely get the filet mignon!! Overall good here is pretty good! Service was not great all. I understand that some restaurants are not known for service and that's fine. But the service here on this particular night was bad. We asked for table salt 3 times and we never got it. The server kept forgetting it. The restaurant wasn't even busy. There were several empty tables. When our server was approaching our table with our salads, he spilled salad dressing on our shirts. He didn't bother to offer us napkins to clean up the spill. He just didn't care. He clearly saw the spill of the dressing... We told the server to box our leftover food but he ended up just throwing everything away. The service was extremely disappointing. The servers were very careless and not professional. This issue needs to be addressed by the restaurant. I've never had service this poor in my dining experiences. I love coming here at Tango Sur, I enjoy the ambiance and service. The items on the menu are very unique. You won't find another place like this. I recommend that you try the empanadas as a starter. I'm not really sure what the hype is around this restaurant. I moved to chicago 3 years ago and heard great things and finally got to try it and was less than impressed. The meat is low quality. I got a ribeye cooked MR and it was so hard I could barely use my knife to cut it. I then took a bite and it would've take years to chew that rock of a steak and finish it. The waiter was extremely understanding and took the steak back and got me a filet. It was okay, nothing crazy. The Chimichurri sauce was oily and lacked flavor. The empanadas are amazing! We live in the neighborhood and this great restaurant is basically our dinning room for years. Whether it's a special or ordinary occasion or just merely our carnivorous cravings, this is our go to place. We keep coming back here because of the friendly atmosphere, excellent service aside from the great food and ambience. We always have fun and enjoyed our time eating here each time. Never for the longest time, that we have experience these rudeness by the seater/usher until today. Two of us (party of 4) happen to arrive early so might as well get seats while the rest are on their way. There was no line, only us , theres a lot of empty seats and tables , and this guy on the front door who seems to be so busy on the phone, im not even sure if he's a greeter attendant or what, was not really attentive to guests , eventually asked us after several minutes standing in front of him, how many and i said 4 , only to be told to wait till the entire party comes . Thats ok so we waited. By the time my party came we were greeted properly and seated by a different familiar guy smoothly with no problem. Our waiter Pedro was attentive and pleasant too. When we finished our food , the guy that asked us how many party we are initially came to our table again to ask us to leave!!!? but we are waiting for our dessert, we said. And there are still empty tables behind and in front of us. I already forgot about how unpleasant he is at the start but coming back telling us to leave after we just finished our food is a bummer and compounding. Came to this restaurant on a Sunday for lunch. Although they open at noon, it would appear that they are not quite ready for their guests. They gave complimentary rolls (which were fresh from the oven) as well as a small salad. I felt they could have done better with a lighter touch of the vinaigrette dressing. Ordered the el filet and the salmon. The el filet was tender although perhaps my version of medium well is medium for them. They were more than accommodating when I asked them to cook the steak a bit more. I did feel it was a bit salty to my taste. The mashed spinach was good - nice touch that was just a bit different from regular mashed potatoes. The salmon sauce was great as well as the asparagus. The asparagus was both crunchy and tender at once and went very well with the mushroom sauce. Waitstaff was friendly although they did not top our water until we are ready for our check. While everyone gapes over their massive servings of filet or perfectly cooked t-bone, I am in chimichurri chicken heaven, all but licking my plate to get every drop of the oily green sauce and juicy Pechuga de Pollo. Oh, and the empanadas are to die for, my absolute favorite in the city. I recommend the chicken, corn, and spinach & cheese. While I personally haven't tried any of them (yet), there are always many different vegetarian options that look and smell just as heavenly as the meat, so everyone is sure to find something here. I always loved Tango Sur before but had a bad experience last night for a Monday night dinner date with my husband. We got the Parrilla for 2 and asked for medium. The meat was a bit tough, I feel like the quality of their meat has gone down compared to the past few years The worst part was one of the 2 sausages was completely burnt, black and unedible- almost charcoal form, we couldnt even get it off of the hot plate it was served in, it was just stuck on it. The other sausage was a bit burned but not as much. Since everything is candlelit, and service was so slow, took us awhile to realize to even say something. Service was suprisingly super slow for a Monday night. It took a while for someone to notice our candle was not even lit so we couldnt read the menu. Waiter only came by once to give us a refill and disappeared. Only nice thing about the service is that the waiter offered for us to take home fresh chimichurri sauce when we were packing up our leftovers. 2 stars are for the ambiance and the mashed potatoes. For a $100+ meal, it was honestly disappointing. I dont think we'll be coming back for a long while. read more

Finally made it to this place after hearing so many great things about it. I missed restaurant week, but still wanted a good meal and my partner was craving steak so we decided to come here. We found street parking right in front, paid the meter, and arrived just a few minutes after opening. Inside was reserved, so we sat outside in the heated, covered area which I didn't mind. The service was very good, our server was very attentive and gave great recommendations. I had the pork chop and O.M.G. Sooo much flavor, and so tender! I was so happy with my choice. My partner got the steak and it was only ok in comparison to my pork chop lol my partner said he was jealous of my entree and would order the pork chops next time ;) The dessert menu comes out on a tray, and the visual presentation is smart bc we were on the fence about desert but once we saw the dolce de Leche, we got it. It was tasty and the caramel hit the spot. Overall, our meal was pricey but not when compared to any other steakhouse. The portions are huge her though. The shared empanadas and melon with prosciutto were lovely appetizers, but I ended up regretting devoting that room in my stomach to anything other than my entree. So happy Tango Sur exists! Conveniently located right on Southport. Service is friendly and attentive. You get served bread and butter before your meal. All entrees come with a small house salad that is delicious. It is BYOB (?!?!crazy?!?!). We were looking for a place to have dinner with The Doctor's cousins that was BYOB, had meat and we could get into for an early dinner since the cousins had to gt up early to drive to Michigan. The place ticked all of the boxes. This is another one of those places that I have passed a million times but never noticed. Well on Jan 31st, 2020, Tango Sur got my attention. We didn't have a reservation because they don't do them for parties less than six, but there were nice enough to take my name to put it on a wait list. However when The Doctor and I arrived, Rob was already there and sitting at the table, so that was great to know we didn't have to wait. The main dining room is small and intimate; there is another space off from the main room, but couldn't see how big it was. Our server was on top of things, bringing out bread and glasses for the wine, bubbles and beer we brought. He gave us some time to look over the menu and answer questions about some of the cuts/preparation of the meats. We started off with empanadas: beef, chicken, & spinach & cheese. The pastry used for the empanadas was excellent, nice and flaky, not dry at all. The beef and chicken were very good with the chimichurri sauce. The spinach & cheese was okay, just didn't seem to have that much flavor. Could have used a little salt as it was on the bland side as far as taste. Joan got this amazing salad...don't remember the name of it as it was on a separate menu, but it was huge and amazing! It was big enough for 2-3 to eat off of and loaded with seafood (octopus, calamari, etc). It was just loaded to the gills with seafood. This could have been a meal all on its own. I wish I had taken a photo of the menu we ordered from as we were so busy talking and laughing that I did not pay attention like I normally do for reviews. My entree was a huge piece of steak stuffed with cheese and spinach, served with vesuvio potatoes. The steak was cooked to perfection...again, perfection! The cheese and spinach in the middle was delightful, with it just oozing out so wonderfully delicious. Everyone got meat and I can't tell you what the got because I was all into my meat. The Doctor got something with mashed potatoes that was medium rare and lovely, no idea what it was called, but it was good. All I am going to say is we all got me and that meat was goooooood! Me, The Doctor and Joan ended up taking half our meat home with us. Gotta say The Doctor said his was great as he ate his while watching the Super Bowl. We opted for dessert....asked for the dessert menu, we got a dessert tray instead. Love it! Me and Rob got the coconut leche cake and The Doctor got something that looked like red velvet. The cake was ok, a little on the dry side for me and Rob, but not bad. I love coconut, so I was okay with it. It was cold...next time I would ask to have it warmed in the microwave if I get this again. I am not a fan of cold cake, The Doctor and The Queen loves cold cake. The only downside to the meal was the bread for all of us. The presentation looked amazing, but it didn't live up to the hype. It was super crispy with not much flavor, so we passed on it. Which was a good thing as we did not fill up on bread like we normally do. So it was a blessing in disguise. The service was great and I didn't feel like we were being rushed, even though people started showing up left and right for dinner. Tango Sur might have missed the mark on the bread, but man they know how to rock a piece of meat. And being BYOB makes it all the more enticing for an enjoyable night out for a big ole slab of deliciously prepared meat. read more

Woooooow. Everything is delicious, so, so, so delicious. I got a reservation on a Tuesday night at 8pm, and it was packed. Beautiful patio space - we sat outside. There was someone playing flamenco guitar, even. We ordered the provoleta, empanadas (sweet beef & spinach/cheese), berenjena (eggplant) special, and the parillada para dos. The sweet beef empanadas were so flavorful and juicy; the parillada para dos was a heaping serving of high-quality, delicious meats (short rib, filet mignon, sweet bread [fried fat], sausage, blood sausage, with chimichurri on the side) - we especially liked the short ribs and sausage on that platter. Those 2 dishes were definitely our favorite. The meat dishes come with a chimichurri sauce that cuts the grease and fat beautifully. So - the parillada para dos is a lot of food. For 2 people, we'll probably just stick to the para uno and one sweet beef empanada!!! The wait times on the weekend look like they'd be long if Tuesday was packed. I'd call for reservations. On a Tuesday, I called and left a voicemail morning of, they got back to me by the afternoon and we were set by the night. They're BYOB, and also have a sister restaurant as well as an adjoining convenience store that sells Latin goods - we didn't get to go inside, but it looks so cool inside!!! read more

Honestly not sure how I feel about this place. The two meat dishes we got were pretty tasty, I will say the skirt steak had a great texture and the rib eye had really good flavoring, wish I could've combined the flavor on the rib eye with the texture of the skirt steak. Everything else fell kind of flat. The service was really stressful, the server kept trying to tell us that if we got things medium rare it would bleed and be chewy and acting like he was advising us against ordering it like that? They also charge a $10 fee to share entrees but we were going to eat family style and the waiter made a big deal of assigning a plate to each person. Each entree came with a really bad salad that no one ate. The tortilla was bland, the eggplant Parm was alright. The empanadas are great, some of the best in the city I think, but you can get the exact same ones for a dollar cheaper up the street at the market on the corner. Loved my experience here! The atmosphere is dark, candle lit, and sexy and the food is delicious! We started with 4 empanadas and all were great but my fave was the sweet beef. We shared the El Filet which is actually 2 steaks with mashed potatoes. The perfect amount for 2 people! The meal also came with a house salad that had a delicious tangy dressing. I have been here a few times over the past three years, the last time being a year ago. We came right at 3 pm when they opened on a Saturday to celebrate my mom's birthday. The food was not good, I actually wanted to ask for something else or just return it altogether but my dad convinced me to take the meat home and that he would give it to the dog later. I ordered the churrasco, it lacked flavor and was tough. My parents shared a meat platter and they thought it was okay but not great. Argentinian Steak is definitely one of the most delicious things to try. Tango Sur has managed to bring all these flavors from over thousand miles away, right here to Chicago. Meat is tender yet does not lose the texture of a real steak. Everything is well thought of from the bread (which is super fluffy and unique), to the desserts. I was visiting from out of town for a concert & decided to stop in for a quick bite to eat beforehand since they had great reviews on their empanadas. I wish I just had gone straight to the concert though. Firstly, there isn't a typical Host stand in the front (nor any sign or person directing guests)- not an issue but since I was confused I decided to go to their register towards the back & when I asked if I seat myself or wait for someone- the two men looked at each other like they were confused also?? Then asked me to have a seat along the wall. The ambiance was intimate, the lights were low, & it wasn't too loud in there nor busy at the time. Plus it was a Tuesday around 4:40pm when I arrived but it took them awhile to hand me a menu & took them even longer to take my order. My server (Daniel) was quite short with me & all of our 3 interactions seemed forced & unnatural. I got the "vibe" that they did not want me there & felt far from welcomed. I was not checked on after I received & ate some of my food. Plus I had to ask for the bill since no one came by for so long. To add insult to injury- the sauce that came with the empanadas was extremely oily with a strong taste that was not pleasant & the empanadas themselves (at least the chicken ones) were not that great. I loved how crispy they were but whatever they used to season the chicken was just not that great. The only person that made me feel welcomed was the busser (whose name I did not catch) so I gave him more of the tip than my server. The busser smiled when speaking to me, refilled my water, & was just more pleasant to interact with. We love this place and always come here when in Chicago. This time we tried several starters. The empanadas were amazing - crispy and stuffed with different fillings of meat and cheese. The provoleta was an Argentine provolone cheese cooked over the grill, all melted and yummy. The Berenjena was a great eggplant dish, like a lasagna layered with cheese and spinach in tomato sauce. This was just so extremely good and tasty. We took El Filet as main. The steak is just perfection. I have no other words for it! However, I recommend to order the sauce on the side it is quite salty and takes away the taste of the meat. Absolutely amazing! It comes with mashed spinach-potatoes and separate salad.
