This is my local watering hole when it comes to coffee shops. And it's for that reason it pains me to give it a 4 star and not a 5. One of my favorite things about this place is that it's a low key chess haunt where really good players will come to challenge each other. These guys are better than any of your friends, I got destroyed by a handful of them and had a great time. Tanners also just nails that local coffee shop vibe, it's the kind of place you can spend a couple hours to relax which I love. The coffee is strong, pastries are decent, staff is usually friendly, but man the furniture here really bums out my bum. I like coming here to work, but it can be tough to find a good spot because everything feels a bit unbalanced. No shade to the couches that are located near the front that give the place a homey vibe. Definitely stop by if you're in the area. Just an update of my previous review. I was able to figure out why it feels like a nice time capsule. Some of the interior design elements seem to be in the Global Village Coffeehouse style. Always on the lookout for cool coffee shops to get some work done, and Tanner's Coffee delivered. Definitely has down-to-earth vibes, this isn't your $10 cup of pretentious coffee. My reasonably priced mocha was excellent. Plenty of seating options, couch, tables, high tables and counter top inside, plus plenty of outside seating. Lived here for years and I can't believe I just tried this place until yesterday!!! Went with a friend and the vibes were cool. They had a comfy couch and a bunch of books to read. I've been meaning to try this local spot since it seems pretty popular, so I looked up their menu on Google and saw they had food. I went in planning to order the spinach wrap, but when I tried to order it, they told me they no longer carry it. Then I asked about the bagels that are advertised in the shop, and they said they didn't have any bagels available that day either. They really need to update their website and in-store signage. I ended up ordering an iced hazelnut coffee that was being promoted, but it was terrible. I order hazelnut coffee often, and this didn't taste like hazelnut at all. Stopping by for grabbing my to-go afternoon coffee and Tanner's coffee came up as highly rated one on Google map. I could see the place was pretty busy with people hanging out, working, as well as playing board games on Sunday afternoon. Plenty of street parking around were available. The venue was okay-ish, though probably more like neighborhood coffee vibe than recently hyped aesthetic ones. The barista was so nice and friendly, which was probably my highlight from this place. The coffee drinks are really not that good here. Service depends on who is there. Every so often I try Tanners again, hoping for a better outcome, and I always say it's the last time. Solid coffee. Inexpensive. Nothing impressive but nothing egregious aka it does the job. After covid, they only sell coffee in to go cups instead of porcelain/ceramic. A bit more milky than I'd like and was a tad over roasted/bitter but overall not bad. Pastries were highly enjoyable but nothing to write home about. I could pass on the pastries next time unless needing a quick bite to eat. $3 for raisin swirl. $7 for cheesecake square and small apple pie. $3 for berry cobbler. They no longer offer their seasonal menu (Eg. lavender and rose lattes). Personally I would pay the extra $1-2 extra for a quality cup and go somewhere else with high quality, specialty coffee. After all, if you're a coffee snob you probably can make your own solid coffee at home. This spot is good for people on the go needing something close and quick but can't stand poor coffee. Parking was a struggle as there was only street parking and it was NOT metered. Instead, after curb parking you have to walk to a self service station to pay for your spot. I have only had their espresso-based drinks and I found them to be top notch - none of that sourness that I sometimes find in underextracted brews. I am still relatively new to LA but so far this is my favorite coffee shop based on drinks alone. Ok it's not all the time that I'm impressed by coffee shop food.. I ordered an iced coffee (cold brew) and plain bagel with egg and cheese.. it was excellent. I had to go back in and say thank you to the staff for that most delicious bagel. It's not something out of the is world right but it was hot, crispy, and hit the spot. It was an egg white bagel and I don't think they make regular eggs just whites as I didn't specify egg whites but I love eggs regardless so keep that in mind. They also have an option for cream cheese, pb&j and just a butter bagel. I doubt you'd be disappointed. Coffee was standard tasting, not worse than the big box brands so I'd rather come to tanners over those guys. It was mildly noisy inside as it was full but nothing crazy. I would assume that they have a steady flow of customers as it seems like they would so don't be surprised if there's a line for breakfast hours. Really like it here but they really need more than one person working at a time. Lines can be 20 min long and I feel bad for the one barista having to take orders and make the coffee. A great study spot with a lot of indoor and outdoor seating + outlets (a necessity!). They have an extensive menu of coffee and teas in addition to smoothies and other fun drinks. Note: They do not have soy milk as a milk alternative. Unfortunately, they did not have any food besides the pastries that were on display in the case. They completely ran out of bagels which was quite disappointing since I was hungry and wanted a meal while I was studying. However, the staff was very kind and let me buy food from across the street and bring it in instead. A little disappointed. Great location known for their coffee. Street parking and a small parking lot in the rear. Came inside to a dark rather large café and a showcase with some muffins pastries. They also have outdoor seating with tables and chairs. The customer service is not great. Yes they were funny and making jokes and talking to each other but they weren't friendly and way to their actual customers. We ordered a strawberry Italian soda and an Americano I can say with full confidence that neither one of them were made correctly. Sadly, my Americano had too much water to espresso. In fact, I don't even think two shots were in my large Americano because it tasted like water with a splash of coffee and this was not iced. It was hot. Next the Italian soda was basically soda, water, and ice with a splash of strawberry. They have a self-service where you can add your own half-and-half which I did but after tasting it it again just tasted like soda water with half-and-half I went back and said, can I get more strawberry syrup? The response was oh I've never made one before and I've never had one before. Yes, I can add more. I was just surprised that the person working there had no idea. The other thing that I'd like to add for leadership to review is that behind the register, they were talking negatively about their customers not me but customers in general even though I was just standing right there and they had a half full café with customers. My hot sugar free vanilla latte with almond milk tasted sour. I threw it out. Over the years I've stopped here about three times. I have never been impressed. Today I was Jonesing for coffee and it has free easy parking. So I stopped. Maybe half a dozen people hanging out in their computers. They have basic flavors. Vanilla or chocolate. They have a frozen drink but I remember I didn't like it years ago. They make smoothies and a couple bagel sandwiches. I won't return. I have never thrown out a coffee before today. I've been coming here for YEARS, and always loved this 90's time capsule! (The PDR location is pretty great, too!) All of the staff (at both locations) have been good, but, today, I was really impressed by Elaina (hope I spelled that right). She was friendly, authentic, professional and had a great playlist on; fully rounding out the, "Singles," (movie) vibe. As a business, it's usually pretty clean, the products are quality and decently priced, and everyone feels at home. Even the supposedly normal person that "didn't know how" to enter the code for the bathroom door They rolled in with a ridiculously cologned dude. That was right after a jerk rang the bell for service IMMEDIATELY as he got to the counter, even though he walked straight from the door to the register, not even looking behind the counter; the barista was literally standing 2 feet away from the register. That's the worst of it, most customers are pretty rad. Sigh... Show your barista some love, they deal with so much we hardly see, because of how good they are at their work. read more

This small coffee shop is amazing and seems so well loved by the local community! For my first time coming here, I was happy to see a large selection of drink options and baked goods. I got a regular latte and chocolate croissant, both of which I would recommend! The latte was nice and rich, with a smooth foam. Definitely get the croissant warmed since it helps the outside be nice and flakey while the inside is a little softer. There is so much seating available, both inside and out. Inside are some couches, bar stool seating, and larger tables to fit whatever needs you have while you're here. There are plenty of outlets and free wifi, so working from here is also a great option. I got the white chocolate mocha hot. I never had a coffee where i actually taste the coffee beans, oatmilk and the white chocolate. It was actually hot. Many coffee shops I been too are usually warm. It's so good. Tanner's is legit. The server was fast and nice. I unfortunately didn't catch her name. The coffee shop is nice inside and very welcoming.
