Tap & Barrel is a convenient stop on your way through Wolcott to Bristol or from Bristol to Waterbury. The building that the Tap & Barrel exists in has seen many faces over the last 10 years. The Tap & Barrel has got to be the best outfit yet. I've stopped in there numerous times to inquire about live music in the fall and I was quite impressed with the set up. At night (pre-pandemic) the place was always packed. It was clean and decorated nicely. It had a very rustic decor. The staff was attentive and very helpful even though I didnt have plans those 2x to dine in. I didnt get a chance to try their food until the pandemic hit and they did delivery/takeout (maybe they always did?). My wife suggested it when she saw a post on a Wolcott town group on Facebook about them. I got an AWESOME burger with some crazy looking curled fries. The burger was probably one of the best burgers that I've had at a restaurant. It was juicy and the toppings complimented the flavor perfectly. The burger was sized well and I felt full after finishing the contents of the container. The person who delivered was very nice and was even apologetic about being late (although she wasnt). Looking forward to takeout from their again. I definetly recommend them for anyone driving through Wolcott. Hoping my 2nd time is just as good as my 1st time.

Let me start by saying the rustic ambiance of this place feels so home like. Service was fast considering it was packed for noon on a Friday. The food was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend got the Tap & Barrel burger with fries. He absolutely loved it. I got the French dip sandwich with their Mac and cheese and couldn't be happier. Would totally recommend.

The staff was friendly & helpful but clearly very busy during our visit. We ordered a spicy meatball pizza, a cheese and mozz sticks. The pizza was definitely sauce focused with lighter cheese than you'd expect, but it was packed with flavor. The mozz sticks were a great starter. Our bill for the above with 1 soda & water came to about $70, not bad for 3 people. Overall it was a nice dinner out & some good zza!

"Lay down, Sally, no need to leave so soon I've been trying…read moreall night long just to talk to you" (Eric Clapton) When I write reviews, more often than not, I visit the reviewee's website to see if there's any interesting nuggets in there. So, when I clicked into Sally's website, I was bowled over to see they now have SEVEN locations with ELEVEN more on the way, including Garden City, NY and Boca Raton, FL. That's pretty impressive. Sally's thin crust New Haven style pizza is a state treasure and I've always enjoyed it wherever I've had it. And today, I had a few slices of their fantastic pizza in a new location for us -inside the West Farms Mall near Jordan's Furniture of all places. Our lunch experience was great, starting with Bianca...our exceptional server. She was so outgoing and attentive, and checked back on us three times without ever being intrusive or an annoyance. We had a simple lunch, splitting a salad and a ten-inch pizza. The Wedge Salad ($14.75) was a big portion of three big iceberg lettuce wedges, charred tomato, Grana Padano cheese, crispy pepperoni, red onion, and a creamy Italian ranch dressing. We decided to skip the grilled bread croutons. What a nice salad! Super fresh lettuce, tasty tomatoes, a healthy sprinkle of pepperoni crisps that reminded me of crumbled bacon, and a great creamy dressing. Our 10" pizza (also $14.75) came with two toppings and we added meatballs and onions. It was thin crust New Haven style perfection. The sauce, the cheese, the cardboard thin crust, the toppings -everything was great. Late in our meal, a young father and his son came in and sat down in front of us. The boy seemed to be 5 or 6. Bianca impressed me again with the way she interacted with the boy, engaging him in conversation, and just being so nice and sweet with him. Well done, Bianca, Well done, Sally's.

We get it - long lines create the illusion of demand, which then creates the feeling of novelty,…read moreuniqueness, value. That was what I thought about Sally's. Well the reputation of Sally's initially came from recommendations from acquaintances and uber driver. So I figured: Sally's must truly be the best pizza in New Haven the pizzz capital of USA (well that's what the signage at New Haven Tweed airport says!) So on a Monday mid-afternoon (July 13 2026) I made sure I put my Teams offline and drove to New Haven from Milford. Traffic on 95 but that's I guess typical. This doesn't happen in VA Beach where am visiting from; but not a novice in dealing with I-95 traffic since I've lived in Northern VA for 36 years. Anyway why am I describing all this? Is Sally's truly worth the hype, long lines and oh btw for pickup/delivery you get in line to order, and have to come back 45 minutes to pick up your order!?? The notable thing is that service is a 4 for takeout. You have to wait a few minutes for the staff who takes orders to be at his station to take the order. He disappears for minutes. But ordering was quick and when they tell you ready gif pickup by 4:15pm, it was ready (but of course got to get in line for that too!) The answer is: only if you don't want to drive to NY to get really great pizza. I ordered the garden (signature) pizza. It looked like a garden alright: vibrant green not overload of red pizza sauce or overly sprinkled cheese. The crust was pretty thin (way I like it) but not as thin as real pizza in Italy. The toppings were fresh. But it was on the bland unseasoned side. I'd give the pizza a 3.

We ordered the triple appetizer, and the kitchen gave us chicken tenders instead of the arancini that we ordered, so they gave it to us on the house. The servers were attentive and kind, and quick to fix our order. - Arancini, (4.25/5): I've never cared for Arancini but this changed my mind- the ball was perfectly cwisp and fried, with a not toooo mushy cheesy center - Calamari, (4.5/5): so good! I love lemon on mine, and it came with this addictive sour spicy mayo dip- top notch sauce - Meatballs, (4/5): tasted pretty standard- not too dry and very beefy with acidic tomato to cut through the meat - Chicken tenders, (4.5/5): surprisingly very good - very juicy with crackly batter and had a great dipping sauce - Small Calabrese Apizza, (5/5): wow! this pizza is sooo light and airy. I am not a big crust person, but I ate the whole slice. the dough is so chewy, the pizza itself was flavorful and light. the waiter recommended us to get a small since we got appetizers... but tbh the 2 of us could've tackled a bigger pie as certified big backs Very happy to have tried Sally's!

I wanted to give them a second chance. Sometimes businesses have bad days and I don't like to judge based off of one experience unless it's super bad. Well, this time was worse. Ordered the chopped salad. All you could taste was dressing and it was soggy and swimming. Barely any meat. Then the pizza came. One half had pepperoni and hot honey and the other had meatball and ricotta. The pepperoni side was literally disgusting. Like the salad, it was completely drenched in hot honey and sickly sweet. It was pooling on my plate. You couldn't taste the sauce, cheese, and toppings. Speaking of the sauce, there was little to none, had no flavor, and it was canned. I know canned sauce when I taste it. This was especially shocking because Sally's is known for their sauce. I'm very disappointed because I usually love the sauce at Sally's l, but this wasn't it. And then there's another problem: the pizza came out burnt and cold. New Haven style is slightly charred, not BURNT. It wasn't just the crust; it was also the undercarriage. See the photos I attached. It also took 50 minutes from the time our order was placed to get our one pizza when the restaurant wasn't even at half occupancy. Service was terrible!! We weren't even offered red pepper or parm with our pizza and weren't asked if we wanted dessert. Not like we wanted to stay after that mess, but it would've been nice to be asked. Our server was never near our table and it took a long time to get the things we wanted. We felt completely ignored all night. I feel like this is totally understandable on a busy night, but the place wasn't packed by any means and there were only a few tables occupied. We had to wait an extra 20 minutes after we finished our pizza before our server came around again and just handed us the check and walked away without a word. Not coming back.

We arrived on a Monday around peak dinner time, but there was essentially no wait (apparently uncommon according to my friend -- just a delightful consequence of dining at a college town during the summer). We split a medium pizza (1/2 elote mexican street corn and 1/2 bbq brisket), proving to be more than enough for two plus a more than ample amount of leftovers. Recently, I've gravitated toward thinner pizzas, a far cry from the typical Detroit (foccacia-esque) style pizzas I used to prefer, and BAR's pizza is akin to a flatbread yet very thin, another fallen angel to the GLP's. The undercarriage boasts a brilliant crust, almost cracker-like. However, it should be noted that the pizza is indulgent all the same. The elote pizza is quite possibly the most memorable, unique pizza I've ever had; it arrives almost crimson-red with a generous layer of corn and takis atop. It's still incredibly well balanced despite the hodgepodge of varied toppings. It's hard to pick a favorite between this and the bbq brisket though; while one is incredibly unique the other is simply sumptuous, nothing pedestrian about either of the two. The service is also impeccable, almost rivaling that of southern hospitality. I always thought Californians were friendly but something is in the air every time I visit New Haven. Incredible!

The bartender was fantastic and even shared the secret to a perfect Whiskey Sour: dry shake the whiskey, lemon juice, and egg white first to build that silky foam, then add ice and shake again. She also noted that aquafaba--the liquid from canned chickpeas--can create a similar effect for vegan or egg-free drinkers.
