When the hunk of sourdough with dipping oil and a beautifully roasted bulb of garlic arrived, I understood why the bartender (Amber?) said it often stole the show... but our plates were delicious down to the last bite. We had short rib w/polenta, smashed baby potatoes, seared scallops, and burrata-peach salad... all so flavorful, so expertly prepared. Literally my favorite restaurant in all of CT…read more i just got engaged yesterday, and me and my fiancée have been coming here for years. when i was thinking of spots for engagement dinner, i knew immediately. i always love coming in here, greeted with a super cozy vibe, and a very friendly host each time, and were served almost immediately after being seated. today, our experience was no different. we went with the meatballs and steak skewers for our appetizers, and they were a home run as per usual. for our mains, i got the grilled cheese sandwich with steak inside, cooked medium rare, with fries. my fiancée got the cobb salad with steak, and poppyseed vinaigrette. absolutely incredible as to be expected, i always get the biggest smile on my face when i bite into the food here. for dessert, we got the crème brûlée, which was a blueberry flavored version today. if i could give 6 stars, i would. this place makes me so happy. i urge everyone to come try this place!

The baked scrod sounded good and I flipped my red wine order to sauv blanc. A very good house salad immediately came out. Fresh and full of good lettuce. Not cheap iceberg as well as plum tomatoes and cucumber and red onion. Nice! But it went down from here. Tick tock. Tick tock. Time goes by. The barteneder spending time talking to her favorite guests seemed aggravated that I interrupted after 15 minutes and asked if my dinner was arriving anytime soon? Just as she went to check it finally came out. And was not worth the wait. A $6 piece of cod sitting on mashed potatoes and soggy spinach just saturated in butter. A fish soup almost. $25? Ah not. I was just about to try dessert and the guy next to me ordered another drink for he and his girlfriend. The bartender said no. "We have a three drink max rule." Rude. To the point. Ruined their experience right there and mine too since i already had a martini and a wine. So, I wasnt going to rish an espresso martini with dessert and add more cost to be cut off. Overall: I was impressed with the restaurant and food though a drawback for me was even though I can be considered a great family restaurant, seeing people in tank tops at the bar turned it more into a corner place with great food rather than the upscale restaurant I was expecting. The dijonnaise was good if a bit mild... amp up the savory flavor and put more ham in the mix with a touch more salt please. Finally, the Public Salad was a good base but needs a bit of a vinegar component to make it sing. I'd recommend red wine vinegar, just a small splash in the dressing.
