Ordered the Margarita Flatbread. Received a burnt piece of toast with something resembling cheese.

There's always a little pressure when a dinner is part reunion, part catch-up, part "please let the restaurant be good enough to match the occasion," and Republic absolutely came through. The whole evening was fantastic. Shane took great care of us and struck that perfect balance of being attentive, personable, and making everything feel easy. He helped the night flow in a way that let us relax, laugh, catch up, and enjoy ourselves without ever feeling rushed. The dinners across the table were a hit, but my Moroccan lamb special was next-level. It was one of those meals where you take a bite and immediately stop mid-conversation because your full attention has been redirected to the plate. The flavors were rich, layered, and so unexpectedly good that I'm still thinking about it. Everyone loved their meal, the atmosphere made it easy to settle in and enjoy the evening, and the prices felt very reasonable, especially for how good the whole experience was. All in, Republic Gastro Pub gave us exactly what you hope for in a night like that: great food, great service, lots of laughs, and a dinner worthy of the reunion

Odd little place. Locals like it. Parking way in the back makes for an uphill walk to the place…read more You enter, but there is no one to greet you in the very empty restaurant. So you walk farther upward to the bar. Small dark. Limited seating. Cozy and quaint but somehow still awkward. Yelp shows pizza, Steak and other great food. However, I was informed they no longer do pizza. Okay. So, I ordered the steak with red wine. A few minutes later I was told they were out of steak. (6:30 on a Wed). Ok. Np again. The baked scrod sounded good and I flipped my red wine order to sauv blanc. A very good house salad immediately came out. Fresh and full of good lettuce. Not cheap iceberg as well as plum tomatoes and cucumber and red onion. Nice! But it went down from here. Tick tock. Tick tock. Time goes by. The barteneder spending time talking to her favorite guests seemed aggravated that I interrupted after 15 minutes and asked if my dinner was arriving anytime soon? Just as she went to check it finally came out. And was not worth the wait. A $6 piece of cod sitting on mashed potatoes and soggy spinach just saturated in butter. A fish soup almost. $25? Ah not. I was just about to try dessert and the guy next to me ordered another drink for he and his girlfriend. The bartender said no. "We have a three drink max rule." Rude. To the point. Ruined their experience right there and mine too since i already had a martini and a wine. So, I wasnt going to rish an espresso martini with dessert and add more cost to be cut off. Anyway, i decided to skip dessert and just go. I left wanting an underwhelmed.

Food: plating was perfect, presentation excellent and taste was very good as well. Cost: for the area I think it was good, about 30-40 per person and for the quality of food, is on point. Overall: I was impressed with the restaurant and food though a drawback for me was even though I can be considered a great family restaurant, seeing people in tank tops at the bar turned it more into a corner place with great food rather than the upscale restaurant I was expecting. I would go back for the food if in the area.

It was graduation weekend at UMass Amherst and my family and I could not find a reservation for lunch. The people at Johnny's Tavern were so kind and accommodating in making our large group Reservation happen!! Ultimately we had a family emergency. and had to cancel after all their hard work and leave to go home! When we canceled, they even called us back and confirmed that we didn't cancel accidentally!! Amazing people and I've heard- great food!

I swear the woman could read our minds, anticipating our questions. Now to the food. We started with fried brussel sprouts. Huge portion. Flavorful, not overcooked, just the right amount of crispness...and those bacon pieces!? Yum. I had the chicken wings and a beet salad. I'm a Buffalo, NY native folks, and thus have had my share of great chicken wings. Johnny's wings were on par with anything I've had in the Queen City. My only suggestion to make it real Buffalo style is thick blue cheese dip. The other meals served were amazing - two pasta dishes and the fried chicken. All tasty. Everyone loved their dishes. The prices were very fair for the quality and quantity of food brought to the table. I'm surprised at the 4.1 Yelper average. The meal and service we had tonight was excellent.

The food also exceeded our expectations. The fried brussels sprouts and salmon were both superb and perfectly cooked. It was all edible, but there were problems with every single thing we ordered. We started with the marinated mushroom & sausage flatbread: one of the better items and fairly tasty with a tomato sauce base, could have used a tart element like a balsamic drizzle to wake it up a bit. My husband got the Korean bbq burger, which at $27 was honestly a bit insane and doubly so when it wasn't good. There's not a single thing that was wrong, the whole conception is an epic fail. A beef burger should not have an intense taste of soy. Sorry, harsh but true. The exorbitant price is insult to injury. The ham and cheese croquettes should never have been offered with the cinnamon sugar dusting. Another bizarre pairing that makes no sense in your mouth and adds nothing. The dijonnaise was good if a bit mild... amp up the savory flavor and put more ham in the mix with a touch more salt please. Finally, the Public Salad was a good base but needs a bit of a vinegar component to make it sing. I'd recommend red wine vinegar, just a small splash in the dressing. Overall enjoyed it and the chicken was adequately moist. Thank you for having us.
