I visited while waiting for my flight because I wanted an actual meal and not just a sandwich. When you arrive, you choose a seat that is empty and a server will greet you. There is not a host, so it is seat yourself. I was greeted quickly and scanned the QR code of the menu. I ordered the Chili since I wasn't very hungry, but wanted something warm and soothing. The chili was good and came with tortilla chips, which is always a PLUS. It wasn't amazing, but it was good. The restaurant was clean and had a steady flow at the time. (Last visited 9/12/2021.) In an attempt to fly to Minneapolis for work our flight was majorly delayed and the Escape Lounge still hadn't reopened so what are we going to do for food?! We wandered the small airport looking for something tasty. So we walked by the Black Bear Saloon and here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right in the middle between the 2 walkways that lead to the different gate areas is this gem. It's right next to where passengers who just got off of planes would go to collect their bags/exit. The entrance is wide-open since it's in an airport. This place gives off an upscale tavern feel with neutral wood colors and yellow lighting. It wasn't very bust so it wasn't loud at all. Service: Service was a bit slow to be honest, but let's chalk it up to being understaffed, as lots of places were at this time, so that's okay. We had plenty of time and weren't in a rush to go anywhere. Food: So we are here for the wings! We were able to try 2 flavors so we went with Buffalo and I can't remember the second one. It was a white-ish sauce, but looking at their menu, none of the sauces make sense to be white. Lol. Ah! I remember! Cucumber Wasabi! It's not on the menu for some reason, but it was a very interesting flavor and one I liked more than the Buffalo! The wings were very decent though, plump, juicy, crispy and filling. Value: $14.00 for 9 wings isn't terrible, especially given the wing shortage, the pandemic AND for it being airport food. Not bad at all. I'd come back for these for sure. This is in airport so expect airport prices but the staff were super nice & quick. You have to scan the QR code to the menu. Not all the drinks are listed but they have a full bar and they can make most things. The place is clean the food is basic American food. I got a grill chicken sandwich with avocado it's good. I decided to give the Black Bear Saloon a shot as I waited for my flight. The sign out front said seat yourself, so I did. I sat by the bar, I sat for approximately 15 mins before anyone came over. Once the bartender/waitress came over I ordered my drink and food. Drink came out right away. I went with the fish and chips as I was sick of burgers and sandwiches. Food came out at 11 mins 16 secs. Which I thought was fast. The fish was good, it was cooked well, it was actually very hot. Almost burned my mouth, but better to be hot vs cold. There are not too many nice choices for restaurants at Bradley airport and Black Bear Saloon seemed the best so I decided to give it a try. Five stars for a full-service restaurant within an airport! Bradley is one of the smaller airports, so to have such quality food and such a large restaurant was absolutely surprising. At this place you seat yourself and before you are fully seated, a waitress comes over and ask if she can take your drink order, or if you already know what you wanna eat. They are very prompt with bringing you your drinks, providing refills, and getting food to you. There are charging stations throughout, and all of the prices are really, really reasonable. I ordered a Riesling, a chicken quesadilla (you can get it baked, grilled or fried; I opted for fried), and mozzarella sticks (ate them before taking a photo), and my total was about $40. Sat ourselves per instruction, was told "I see y'all I'll be right with you. 10mins passed before we were able to order drinks or food. This would also be the last time we saw our waitress. Ordered the turkey club, received the BLT. Never received any napkins/utensils. Guess jeans work as a napkin while traveling lol. Never asked if we wanted refills (we did). After eating I eventually had to get up to track down another waitress that turned out to be the manager so we could close our tab. This is airport restaurant, but still, food quality was very bad -- I couldn't finish my burger because it didn't taste like meat and I started to grow suspicious (and mushrooms in the burger -- if you've seen what happens to old mushrooms, picture them in the burger). Same deal with fries, and buffalo cauliflowers-- everything seemed to have been sitting around for a while to the extent the texture felt weird, and all masked with heavy sauce. Bradley has impressed me so far in terms of having fairly quality restaurants. We stopped at Black Bear Saloon for lunch before heading back to DC after Thanksgiving, and I was way too excited that they had a mac and cheese burger. It was messy, but didn't disappoint. This place is fairly large and busy. It has good table service, you also get your food quickly and it it quality grub. The drinks are good and so is the food. The prices are higher than the norm because we are in an airport but I would say that they are reasonable prices for the quality of the food. Next time I am her, I will come to this place. I came here on a business trip on my way to catch a flight at Bradley Airport. Wanting to avoid the standard airport fare of McDonalds and Dunkin, we stopped by Blackbear as it seemed to be the least "franchisey." Service was good and relatively quick, within minutes we were greeted and promptly seated. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us plenty of time to decide what to eat without being too pushy. I ordered the Cowboy Burger on a Pretzel Bun while my coworker got a Tuna Melt. I was told the tuna melt was decent and met expectations. The burger was pretty standard fare, served with fried onion rings and bacon on the inside and a pickle and fries on the side. My main complaint was that though I asked for the burger to be rare, I was instead greeted with a very well done patty. Despite that, I finished everything since I was pretty hungry and the food was still passable. All in all, it was decent fare for airport food and it was paid for by my company anyways. I would give Blackbear 3.5 stars but since that isn't an option I would have to say it's a 3. read more

I had burger sliders - 12.99 for 2 cheeseburger sliders and fries. Good portion for one person and quite good. Also had a glass of pinot noir $13. All were really tasty, which is somewhat surprising for an airport bar! No wine list but Shauna explained all of the options. I think you'll find that out of the few places to hang out while you're waiting for your flight at BDL; black bear saloon looks the most cozy and inviting from the outside. I've never actually had a meal here, but I've stopped in a number of times to get a drink to help fight off the pre-flight jitters. If you enjoy a robust red wine, they always have Mountain Door Malbec on the list. Granted, the glass costs as much as if you were to buy the bottle at the store but I think that's probably expected at the airport. As you've probably read in a couple of the other reviews, they also have quite a number of locally brewed beers on tap. I enjoyed a particularly delicious glass of UFO white from Harpoon. (They're located in Boston) Service has always been attentive, and I will probably stop by again the next time i'm waiting for my flight at BDL. read more

It's pretty much the only space in the airport to slam down a few IPA'a before you get the hell out of Connecticut, which is probably exactly what you need right now. I didn't see a photo of it on Yelp so I decided to take one for the team. Black Bear Saloon seems like the nicest restaurant to eat at, and I think because there is no competition they have no desire to really excel at this establishment. Starting off, this place was extremely busy on a Friday around 1PM. They should have more waitresses to handle the volume, because it took forever for someone to check on our party of six people. I pretty much had to wave someone down if I needed anything, even to order. We waited about 30 minutes before our food arrived. The food was fine, but the amount of food was on the small side compared to how much it cost. I would suggest avoiding this place if you can, unless you don't mind waiting a very long amount of time getting service. read more
