My husband and I were so excited when we heard they were building a Tap House Grill in Algonquin because we used to go to the one in Glen Ellyn before we moved here. Absolutely love this place. I find it interesting that it has five 5 star reviews but if you Google it, it's a 3.4 star reviewed restaurant. Went for lunch with a friend 3 weeks ago. Thought we would try out the new place since there aren't many options right now for a friends lunch. As soon as I walked in, I wished we had just gone to Chilis but was being a good sport. The casual atmosphere and attention is not necessarily welcoming when no one is smiling. It didn't look much different than Houlihans inside just more lit. Seated and our soft spoken server took our drink order. Well, she came back, no iced tea. What? Really? Ok, strike 1. My friend received her meal and it was not the right burger. Honestly, if she had looked at the dish herself she would have known the order wasn't right but maybe with new staff she's still learning so let it slide. So they take it back. When her order returns her side dish is now cold. The waitress does not correct that. My meal is just ok. Nothing great. Bland beer and cheese soup. Bland shrimp tacos. Eh. The manager (not sure since he pauses only long enough to ask and run without introducing or waiting to hear a reply) walks up to our table to see if we need anything while we are both chewing. The checkout was completely uncomfortable. The waitress does it in front of you at the table. You don't see your bill first unless you ask and then she has to hand you her tablet which is difficult to understand and you have to tell her your tip amount. I placed to go order through the website and all went well. The food was great and it was ready on time. My only real issue/concern is that when you order from their website, what is in the dish is not listed (dangerous when it comes to allergens) and there is no place to do modifications. This evening my family and I experienced one of the worst dining experiences we could have had the only thing that was ok was that my fish and chips and the beer cheese soup were actually good and palatable. First strike was when we walked into a practically empty dining room. (It was 2 tables with couples and about 4-5 people at the bar) It took about 3-5 minutes for us to be noticed then have someone come over and seat us. We requested a booth which was provided in the all but empty room but the table top was kinda sticky and the wall lining the booth had food and beverage remnants splattered about it aside from crayon marks on the light housing and wood surfaces. Strike two was us waiting for our waiter after being seated which after awhile my wife and I started a countdown to just get up and leave as we were hungry and we also can't postpone too long with our 3 year old daughter. About 3 minutes before our walk out deadline a waiter finally came and we placed our orders. Strike three was when the food came out while it was quick to arrive that was the only quickness to the establishment. When the food came we realized just how bad the meal was going to be. We got our daughter the kids macaroni and cheese well so much for that as it was a $9 small serving of KRAFT macaroni and cheese not a small portion of the same macaroni and cheese as the regular menu but damn KRAFT if I wanted to pay that much for out of the box macaroni and cheese I'd be getting something much better than a box of KRAFT. Next up was my wife's meal which was the cheesy chicken delight, let's just say there was barely any cheese on the dish and the chicken portion should have been made and fried into a chicken cutlet instead of the grilled and dry meat that was served. She also got the cheese soup which again was actually very tasty, as well as my dish of the fish and chips being cooked and seasoned well. Once we got over our mistake of trying this restaurant for a first time we'll never be back. One other thing was during our whole meal we were only checked on once after our food arrived. The only refill I got for my bottomless fountain soda was when finally able to ask for the bill which still took 5-10min to get after asking for it. Not knowing how long it would take the staff to run my card thankfully I was able to pay our tab with an Apple Pay QR code on the receipt, so we could leave in a timely manner. So warning to all of you want good food, good service, priced reasonably definitely do not come to the Tap House Grill I would recommend just going to Chili's down the street which might be cheaper and I know the food is good. read more

My beautiful date and I ordered pot stickers as an app. They were fresh and perfectly seared with the right amount of dough. we had drinks and both ordered the blackened mahi mahi tacos. Service was good. The 3 stars is all because of the food. My shrimp tacos tortillas were old. I asked for fries instead of the rice. I got tots. So when food came I asked for fries. This was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had, period! Monday night, the place isn't that busy. Waiter has a bad attitude and the personality of a wet rag. Waited an extraordinarily long time for our meals. 3 of the 4 meals were absolutely horrible. The 4th was marginal at best. It was so bad when we were leaving we actually stopped a couple going in so they didn't suffer the same fate. That place will be out of business in 6 months tops. we ate for Mother's day brunch. not a lot of choices , just typical breakfast ? scrambled egg , greasy bacon ? burnt sausage , tough french toast and gooey and cold , pancakes dry and taste like the frozen one and just thawed and warm , Ham too salty , Roast beef , tough and undercooked , no fresh fruits , just cookies for dessert , seevice very slow , no drinks offered , we have to ask for coffeee and orange juice . If you feel like stopping here for a meal, try going and eating out of the dumpster the day before garbage pick-up. The slime from the decomposition of the thrown away food over many days may help you choke the food down. I've never had Buffalo wings have the same consistency and moisture content as the napkin on the table. I'm not even exaggerating! This place is a typical run down sticky table and floor "bar & grill" that serves the same old fried food and burgers as every other bar and grill, only they don't know how to cook it. The only thing more atrocious than the food is the service. Our server had to be reminded 3 times to bring ranch dressing for my sons disgusting, dry as desert sand, Buffalo wings and a refill for his lemonade. It took nearly 25 minutes to get the order correct, something she could have handled immediately in about 39 seconds. It was 5:30 and there wasn't many people there. It was frustrating watching her continue to walk around as if we just didn't remind her for a second time that we asked for ranch and a refill. A normal person would just go grab it quickly to correct it. She seemed to forget the second she turned away from us. She never apologized or even acknowledged her mistake even after the 3rd reminder. Not only that she never once thought to ask my wife and I if we would like refills on our drinks. My wife's flatbread was as hard as a rock and my chicken sandwich was over cooked and hard to chew. Our server spent a whole 90 seconds at our table the entire time we were there. We're not rude, demanding or obnoxious people. We are mild-mannered, quiet and pleasant. We were very nice to her even after all of this. We didn't get an attitude and kept our comments to ourselves. We get that the service industry probably isn't fun, but handle yourself like you appreciate the customers because if you don't, you won't have any customers to justify keeping the doors open. Especially when it's a dump, the food is gross and 2 adults and an 8 year old spend $80 eating your disgusting food, never even having the pleasure of a refill on our drinks. We paid, even left a tip that she didn't deserve and we didn't even get a "thanks" or "have a good night" on our way out. This is the canary in the coal mine of where this country is headed. With people that put this kind of effort into their jobs, the America we once knew "pre-covid" will be like a bedtime fairytale. Our grandkids won't believe us when we tell them how nice it was to go out to eat and be treated with appreciation and having intelligent people that cared about doing a good job, waiting on you. Long story short, if you're going here for the food or the atmosphere, try somewhere else, you will be underwhelmed. The menu is amazing and restaurant is close to home for carry out. Servers were friendly and attentive. Nice beer specials. But it sounds like we were here on an off night. Ordered the wings because we wanted to see what $18/8 wings tasted like. Were not crisp and tasted like fish. Tacos, beef and avocado, were okay. Rice and beans very good and definitely not an afterthought as in many places. Dessert donuts were raw and dripping with oil. Probably oil was not hot enough. They replaced with a different dessert. Let me start by saying my server was great. He was attentive and kind. The food was ok, not great, not bad. The reason for 1 star is the unethical food surcharge that they add to the bill. Most will ask what's the big deal, it's 2%? My problem is the reason I was given. The reason was that it was an effort by the owner to keep menu prices the same. OK, maybe the naive will buy that, but YOU ARE STILL MAKING ME PAY THE INCREASED PRICE. It is extraordinarily unethical to say "it's noted on the menu" and expect your customers to be reviewing the menu for hidden fees. Most people are looking at the food descriptions and prices. The worst part is the coward owner makes the servers explain this. They have to repeatedly deal with confused (annoyed) customers that otherwise had a good experience. The real reason is likely that they think most people won't notice. The reality is most people make the servers take the hit on their tip. Shady business, and the $2 that you didn't even end up getting from me cost you a customer forever. Genius. QUIT ABUSING YOUR SERVERS. Phenomenal food & phenomenal service! Our waitress, Lauren, was on TOP of it. Smiling face, never left us waiting, great jokes, gave us amazing recommendations on food, and just overall great conversation and service. Beer-battered chicken strips were crisp and thick, loved the taste. Kobe beef burger was cooked to perfection and their traditional pretzel sticks were sooo warm and soft.
