No pico de Gallo, just a Couple of pieces of chopped hard tomato and limp shredded lettuce. bland rice with a spoonful of (canned?) black beans, no seasoning whatsoever!! Buffalo chicken with ranch, served with carrots from a bag, you know the mini ones. Grilled chicken served with a pickled pepper and a slice of red onion??? I've been coming here for YEARS and I've never had a bad experience! The atmosphere is always welcoming and a fun place to hang out for people of all ages. The wait staff is always pleasant and incredibly friendly. They're very knowledgeable of different beers and give samples for a dollar. Olivia and Kaitlyn are my absolute favorite bar tenders. They're always in a great mood and are so easy going. They also make fantastic drinks! Tap house has specials every day of the week and are reasonably priced. Although I only give the food quality an 8/10, the service and drinks completely make up for it. Next time you visit, sit at the bar! You won't regret it. read more

I visited with a larger group for an early Saturday dinner. The atmosphere was good, and the restaurant was busy but not packed. The goods: We ordered two appetizers: the cheese curds and pretzels. Both were really good and our group cleaned the plates extremely fast. The dipping sauces really complimented the food, and we all agreed that the cheese curds had the best sauce. Also good was the beer selection. Finally, the waitress was attentive and communicated well. One person in our party had an issue with their food and the staff worked to rectify it. It did take a little while to get the food back out to us, but it was ultimately comped, and we really did appreciate that. Most of our party was pleased enough with their dinners, which is why I left this at three stars rather than one or two. The not-so-good: I ordered the seared tuna tacos. While I am in no way a picky eater, I literally could not finish the food. The tuna was cold and barely had a sear on it. But not cold in a "fresh-caught tuna that was just seared but not enough" sort of way. Cold in a "we cooked this hours ago and threw it in the refrigerator and then made a feeble attempt to warm it up" way. The sauce on the tacos was more of an Asian-inspired sauce, which totally conflicted with the overall Tex-Mex theme of the dish. I can't stress enough: I'm not picky, and literally cannot remember the last time I was unable or unwilling to finish my plate. My wife ordered the Greek sandwich and while she didn't have the reaction I had, she certainly didn't enjoy it either. She reported that it was fine, but the sauce was "not what you'd expect" on that type of sandwich. Also of note: when we did sit down, as I grabbed under my chair to scoot into the table, I was greeted with a sticky mess. I don't totally blame the establishment as I know it's difficult to audit 100% of the chairs and tables for messes, but whatever I put my hand it had been there long enough to get extremely sticky - to the point I had to go wash my hands thoroughly to get it removed from my skin. Gross. Overall: As we drove home, my wife and I discussed our meals. I told my wife how excited I was to visit, and how disappointing the experience was. I recommend that anyone ordering food there stick to the wheel house of the menu, which appears to be the sandwiches like the burgers and pulled pork, as well as the appetizers. read more

Made a reservation for an early dinner after my wife's college graduation and we were seated promptly without any issues. The food wasn't bad by any means, but the service is lacking. We ordered appetizers to eat before our sandwiches came out, and one of the appetizers arrived after the main dishes were already served. I have been to Tap House many times since moving here. My favorites are the pretzel appetizer, tater tots, and the blackened tilapia taco. I love a good Moscow Mule--their menu included many varieties and flavors. The Bar is always decorated for the holidays and service is always great. Really want to like this place. Have given it a couple shots. Both times service was not anything to write home about. But food was good. Our most recent visit I ordered a drink off of their cocktail menu. Turns out they were out of one of the ingredients - that happens. So I was quickly skimming the menu to pick something else. Our server was suggesting their cocktail made with coconut. While I don't dislike coconut, I just wasn't in the mood for it. I tried to tell her several times I wasn't interested but she wouldn't let it go. She was relentless in wanting me to order this drink. I finally gave in. It was ok. Probably would have been better had I been in the mood for it. But it was just frustrating that she really wouldn't let me pick something else on the menu I was more in the mood for. We ordered an appetizer. It never came. She didn't realize it until she brought our meal and asked if we needed anything else. Once she realized that she had forgotten she admitted so, but was unapologetic. Asked if we still wanted it, we told her no, but she ended up bringing it anyway for no charge. Glad she did because that guac was awesome. Like I said, want to like it because it is one of the few places in the downtown area to go- food is good. Tasty! I've been here a couple of times. Salads are a nice size and delicious. Brussel sprouts yummy. The tacos are good. I've eaten the tilapia tacos and my friend got the fried avocado tacos. The list of beers on tap was at least 30 long and included beers from Goose Island, Lagunitas, Solemn Oath, and a lot more that I'd never heard of. 3 of us sat in the patio area. A friend had the tilapia for dinner and followed up with the stuffed chocolate cake. Despite there being a bone in his fish, he said it was really good. And the cake looked really good - very rich and definitely STUFFED with chocolate. My husband and I were stuffed from a family party earlier in the day, so we just had our beer. But I would definitely go back for the Kit-Kat dessert or the fried bacon. Taphouse was reasonably priced with a relaxed atmosphere. It's more of a "jeans and a t-shirt" kind of place in my eyes, but there was a number of women here in LBD's and evening handbags. I apologize, yelp, for not having reviewed this place sooner! Since we moved to the area 2.5 years ago, this is our favorite local bar/restaurant! We come here multiple times a month for a quick beer, yummy eats, or the monthly beer school they offer! They offer an impressive craft beer list (40 beers on tap), and the only "non-craft beer" is Miller Lite. I believe all of their staff are cicerone servers so they are great at recommending beer choices! Once in a while they will do a Dollar Draft night and all of their beers will be $1- we try not to miss this! Speaking of beer, the second Sunday of the month there is a beer school here, and for $20 you get 5 samples of the featured beer style that month, some apps, and lots of valuable info by their knowledgable cicerones! My friends and I have learned a lot and hope to keep coming! As for food, they never disappoint! Some of our favorites are the Four Napkin Pulled Pork Nachos, Totchos (tater tot nachos), Pretzels, TapHouse burger, Sprecher Root Beer Sandwich, Merkts Steak Sandwich, and the Housemade KitKat! We loved the Tap House Grill. Based on other reviews, it seems like maybe we got lucky the day we were here in the service department: our waitress was friendly, took excellent care of us and proactively kept glasses refilled (without even having to be asked). Seriously, she was exceptional in every way. The food was great. Between the six of us we tried the brussels sprouts appetizer, the fried bacon, the pulled pork nachos, wings, a fried chicken sandwich and the most ridiculously large grilled cheese/egg sandwich combo that I have ever seen. In fact, all the portions were on the large side, but if you're going to order fried bacon, your day is shot anyway ... might as well go all in. read more

Since my bf lives in Montgomery, this is one of the few bars in the area that we're not apprehensive about going to (hello, Blue Boar Inn). Just sayin, there are some suspect establishments out this way. I've been to the Tap House in St. Charles several times, since I live only minutes away and this Tap House is a lot larger and in a way cuter building. Besides that, the service and food/drink selection is comparable. Both have outdoor seating, which is nice but the areas are very small. The bartenders have always been nice, sometimes even offering to make specialty drinks when I can't decide on something. A couple times I've asked about certain drinks and they've been out of stuff to make it, such as their horchata cocktail. Their fish tacos are very good, the tater tots (I ate w/o chili) were okay..but there was tons of lettuce all over them. I've had a taste of the macaroni and cheese but it's so fattening and terrible for you that I'll stick with sneaking a bite of my bfs. Also, I feel like it's always cold in here, I've probably been here about 5 times and I've always been chilly. read more

I really want to give this place 5 stars because the food deserves it. The bar area was pretty nice, but we needed more seats and decided to get a table. Considering how busy this place was, a 30 minute wait was reasonable. However, when we were seated, the hostess takes us all the way back to the semi-private room to a tiny table in the corner where we literally had to squeeze through two huge parties. When asked if this was ok, I said "this table really sucks". (I had seen other soon-to-be empty tables on the way to our exile). She didn't offer us a different table. We would have gladly waited for a different one. So - the two groups were so loud that our little HS get-together group couldn't hear each other speak at all. Terrible. The bar area wasn't nearly as loud as the crappy corner table. ZERO stars for that lack of service. However, the appetizers were astounding. We ordered the crispy fried bacon, fried pickles and red pepper hummus. I never thought bacon could get any better, but wow!!! It's coated then deep fried and it's heavenly. The fried pickles tasted homemade. The first taste was so-so. Then the flavor of the seemingly homemade bread & butter pickles kicked in - best fried pickles I've tasted. And I've had many different kinds. The hummus was very good also. If we had ordered just the hummus, I would be raving about it, but the bacon and pickles were the superstars of the evening. I was too full to order dinner, but I did try the garlic mashed potatoes and they were very good. My friends ordered various entrees and liked them. The drinks were so-so. I ordered a margarita and had to send it back because they put orange juice in it. I will never understand why bartenders think a margarita is supposed to have OJ in it. Replacement was decent. After we paid the bill, our server dropped off the face of the earth even though we hung around for at least another hour plus. We probably would have ordered more drinks and definitely needed more water...pretty mediocre service overall. Would I go back? For the appetizers - yes! For the service? I absolutely love the Tap House! The menu of food and list of beers keeps me coming back. As a person who loves European and exotic beers, this place is awesome. There are about 20 beers on tap alone and they offer $2 tastes of beer. The taste is in a mini pilsner glass and offers a generous taste of beer. If you are anything like me, this size is perfect to keep trying several other beers without getting tipsy! And there are televisions all over so you will never miss a game and can see from almost every part of the restaurant. The food at the Tap House is a little pricey but so worth it! The quality of the food is higher and the portion sizes are bigger. I personally recommend the loaded tater-totchos, its like nachos but even better because all the nacho toppings are smothered over golden delicious tater-tots. The salads are all refreshing and so large I shared! Last but not least, the most amazing thing on the menu is the KOBE burger. This burger is expensive, but when you taste it, you will understand why. Kobe meat is a special Japanese beef that is renowned for its marbling and its tremendous tender and juicy taste. When you get this burger don't bother with cheese or condiments, it is just that good on its own! Just thinking about it makes me want one. The service at the Tap House was great and they accommodated myself and my 11 other family members and friends very easily. We were all seated together and got our food and drinks in a timely matter even on a Saturday night. The inside is very nice, we have been 3 times and it is always clean. They have a tendency to turn the tv up too loud and the acoustics make it extremely loud because it is a small space. service has always been good never been an issue. The food has been a mix. I have had thier spicy pasta which is very spicy and very nice. My wife has been ill after eating there the past 2 times, she likes her burgers medium well and they send them more medium rare too medium. The kit Kat dessert is also amazing. The pretzels were decent but slightly soggy. Calamari was solid. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish and the breading were slightly soggy and not as crisp as I would've liked. I also ordered green beans which were delicious! Not sure how I feel about a vegetable being the highlight of a meal... $5 Burgers on Tuesdays! YUMMY! This gastropub has a casual interior and beautiful outdoor patio that wraps around the restaurant. There are 40 beers on tap that rotate with the seasons - but some favorites are always available. Their pretzel sticks are large soft pretzels that come with cheese and mustard sauces. They have several different burgers to choose from, including a veggie burger for your herbivore friends. I had one with fried egg and bacon that was delicious! Their tator tots are crispy and a nice change from your typical French fry. The night that I was there the waitress we had was taking care of our table as well as the large party room. Unfortunately, this resulted in a long wait for us. I can't hold it against her because I know that it was not her fault that she needed to be two places at the same time. The beer selection is expansive, at least 40 I believe. I did not have any but next time for sure. The food selections, soups, salads, wraps, sandwiches and burgers all very appealing. The Certified Angus 1/2 pound burger was delicious and the other members of my family decribed their selections as very good. The atmosphere was welcoming and the lighting was very good. One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had... Our waitress was nice and then she completely disappeared. She was having a rough day, that much was perfectly clear. To be honest, I understand having a rough day, but I don't understand the rest of the visit... We didn't get half the drinks we ordered, the food was sub par at best, we had one waitress take our order, another bring the order out, and then I had to flag down a waitress to get our check (no one ever even attempted to check on us). Now my criticism isn't with the initial waitress, but the management staff, and the last waitress that dropped off the check. As a manager, which I'm very familiar with, you take care of your staff, but most importantly, make sure their tables are being looked after! That's basic management 101. The waitress brought our check to us after having to flag her down to have someone get it for us (meanwhile there's at least 6 employees standing outside in front of the building). She rudely tossed the check on the table and walked away. I know there's not a ton of choices in Oswego to go to, but surely you can do better than this... I won't be recommending it to anyone much less ever stepping foot in there again. Avoid at all costs. read more

The tater tots were too crispy for my taste. For drinks, I asked the server if she had any juice. She hesitated and then said yes and I asked what kinds and she just said Orange Juice. I ordered orange juice and then later she mentioned no one had asked her for orange juice in 4 years so she didn't know if refills were free or not. No biggie, but I just felt awkward for ordering orange juice because of this.... I was actually leaning towards cranberry but she didn't list it nor did I further inquire. We've been to Tap House once before and that experience wasn't the best. So years later (yesterday 8/13/18) we decided to give it another shot because every time we ride pass it's always seems so busy. Unfortunately this experience was the same but worse. The waitress wasn't attentive and the food was gross. I order the garlic Parmesan and bbq wings, my daughter ordered the Mac and cheese. My food was cold by the time it reached me and my daughter Mac and cheese was more like Mac and Mac. There was little to no cheese on what was suppose to be Mac and cheese, she said it tasted like plain noodles. I didn't reorder anything because of the fear of being disappointed AGAIN. I'm convinced that the crowd I see are paid actors and actresses because the food there is terrible. read more

Really great pub and grill: neat decor, comfortable layout, cool looking bar, amazing menu, incredible beer selection, spectacular chocolate-drizzled donuts dessert. We came in on a Sunday for a late lunch and there was a good crowd plus the party room was occupied. Service was friendly but glacially slow. We ordered the jerk seasoned fish sandwich and the root beer beef and gouda sandwich. Both were amazing. The chocolate drizzled donuts are worth a trip just on their own. Spectacularly piled-high plate of freshly made donuts with the most amazing chocolate drizzle and dipping sauce. MMM. There's very little parking immediately behind/to the side of the building but if you go across the street there's a large parking lot you can use. We got to sit by the amazing stone fireplace, tho it was turned off. Great stonework! The restrooms are decorated in a prairie deco style modern tile that's very welcoming and cozy. In Oswego, if you don't want to head to a chain restaurant, there really aren't a lot of choices.....so we head to Tap House. (Yes, I know it is a small chain - but, shhhhh! People who aren't from around these parts don't know that.) So, here's what I like about Tap House: 1. Service. All of our servers have always been upbeat and positive. It doesn't matter who our server is or what time of day we have gone -- we always have had pretty darn good service. We have had some of the servers more than once, and in the restaurant world, where turn over is high, that is a pretty good thing. 2. Consistency of food. Man, I hate going to a place where one time my burger is perfect and the next time isn't not so great. The food here is consistent -- good or bad -- what you order one time, the next time will pretty much be the same. 3. Selection. They do update and change the food menu every so often, so that makes it a bit more interesting and helps to get rid of the, "Ugh, I have tried everything on the menu (that I want to try) and I want something new!" Somethings that I would order again include: Drunken Shrimp (I really like this), the Kobe Beef Burger and Shrimp or Fish Tacos. They also have a really good selection of drinks and beers on tap. 4. Specials. They run specials daily and monthly. Check out their "birthday" week in July -- these specials are pretty good and change each day. They also have a beer of the month. 5. Flexibility. You can go there to hang out with a group, go as a family, go for an informal date, and it's all going to be okay. Here is why a star is docked in one word -- SLOW Let me expound on that word just a bit. Like I mentioned, I have gone to Tap House many times over the years. And despite the time of day, what sport happens to be on, if it is an event day, how many people are in the restaurnt or who our server is...the food always takes forever! To sum it up - If you are looking for a "non chain" restaurant...okay...a non "large chain" restaurant, I would recommend Tap House. The word gastropub makes me cringe, like the words "succulent" and "salve", but this place is more or less a gastropub. I liked this place: lots of beer choices, a good sized space, and a menu that looks like it's filled with interesting bar food fare. My boo and I hit this place up on a Sunday night. Woo hoo! The crowd was a mix from late twenties to maybe mid-forties and mostly couples. We sat at the bar and split the Totchos, which is basically amped up nachos that replaces the chips with mutha truckin' TATER TOTS! It's a widely known fact that a tot is the best form of fried potato, so of course this was awesome. The menu has a bunch of other things that I'd like to try if I ever go back. Usually we shy away from chain restaurants, but the Tap House Grill is an exception because of their great craft beer list. During our recent visit to their Oswego location, they featured almost 40 different brews on tap, 8 bottled brands, and 15 canned styles. Their food is good too, with a lot of beer-braised or beer-battered items. (I had the Kobe beef slider trio, but they also have soups, salads, tacos, wings, foot-long cheese melts, and lots of appetizers.) They are also kid-friendly, with kids' menus and high chairs available. The Oswego site, located right by the Fox River, is a bit larger than the Lemont location that we've frequented in the past. This is good in a way, but they also tend to cram more tables into that extra space. Our group of four adults and two kids was seated at a table that was kind of awkwardly situated in the open doorway of the adjacent room. Service was OK (very friendly waitresses and hostess) but a little spotty - two waitresses offered to get us containers for our extras but then got busy and forgot until we reminded one. There was also an odd incident where my first two beers came in pint glasses, but my third one came in a smaller 10-ounce glass, which is usually reserved for drinks with a higher alcohol content. All of my beers were the Oskar Blues Mama's Little Yella Pils, a pilsner with an ABV of only 5.3. Were they doing some kind of alcohol profiling because I'm a woman and they thought I couldn't handle three beers? (If they knew me better, they wouldn't have made that assumption.) No matter. Any of the Tap House Grill locations are a good choice for a decent lunch or dinner and a great brewsky or two (or three!). read more

First visit to Oswego in 20 years and wow, the little town has really grown up. Visited the Tap House Grill on Saturday with 3 best buddies from high school for beers and lunch. Everyone tried a different beer and a different menu item. From the deep fried bacon to the deep fried pickles, everything was pretty tasty! I was so full from the appetizers that I could barely finish my blue cheese and mushroom burger and the oversized portion of tater tots that went with it. The service was great, the beers were cold and I could imagine enjoying many a winter night in there with a fire and an HDTV sporting event. Lastly, I can't believe I tried and liked a "Banana Bread Beer" but it was delicious! Look forward to my next visit! Congratulations on helping bring a river town back to life! read more

If I were rating Tap House simply for the bar and ambiance then they would definitely receive 5 stars. Sadly their burgers were really disappointing when I met a group of friends. First off, we started the night with a couple different types of beers. The waitress was really helpful in choosing new beers as well as letting us have a sample so we did not have waste our money. I am sure they will have a beer or two for just about every beer lover. This was so much fun and I even learned a little about the different types of beer! Be warned there is not a lot of seating for their cheap burgers on Tuesday night or weekend nights. We stayed at our bar seats so we would not have to wait the hour the hostess told us the list would take. We all ordered the Kobe Beef Burgers with tater tots! The tator tots were amazing! By far the best part of the meal. Sadly out of the four of us they managed to get two of our burgers right. The boys who ordered their rare burgers received their rare burgers and sadly so did we. I ordered mine medium, like I always do and my friend ordered hers medium well. However, we all got rare burgers. I am not one to send my food back so I sucked it up. One thing I have to say is Boursin Mayo is so good I could eat it on everything. It pretty much melts in your mouth. So delicious! Tap House has done a great job creating a place where people just have fun being there. You can watch all the games on all there TVs, host a party in their party room, or sit at their huge bar and enjoy all their drink selections. I would definitely suggest giving it a try. This place is my saviour because I live about 20 minutes west of here and yep, you guessed it we have NADA for good food out here in the sticks. We can drive out to Oswego, the land of chain restaurants, in 15-20 minutes and hit the Tap House for some good food and a great beer list. The service is always great. The servers are friendly, quick and very accomodating to kids! The fish tacos are scrumptous! I love the bruchetta appetizer, its unique and just addicting. I REALLY want to like Tap House. Our last few experiences have been spotty. Always nice hosts, servers; but the food is hit or miss. I'm Dec 29th, my daughter ordered the Beer Brined Chicken & it came out looking like plastic on a plate. Unrecognizable. A friend ordered chicken tacos - came out cold. Another ordered a chorizo burger which was ok: but the chorizo was burned. My SIL ordered a medium rare skirt steak that was undercooked. My shrimp Caesar was fantastic! Today, we are here for the NY Brunch for $10. We'll, you know - you get what you pay for - but .... they have no milk (due to last night' NYE kids event), no apple juice, .... the Brunch offerings are: seemingly powdered eggs, bacon, pancakes, tator tots, ... little muffins. Worst burger I have every had, dry and over done, was never asked if everything was ok, ordered the King Kobe, 1 1/2 pounds of burger (3 burgers on one bug). If you need a drink its a good place to go but would not eat there. read more

We really liked the food at Tap house, and the drinks were good. I feel like it's fairly priced, especially for the amount of food you get. The shrimp off the appetizers were AMAZING. Literally some of the best I've ever had. The staff was SO friendly. Only thing is maybe it's just this location, I wouldn't say to sit outside. It's just way too loud from Washington street that you can't hear well when talking to who ever you're with which obviously isn't their fault! We love tap house! read more

How did I not find the Tap House Grill before now? I've been in Oswego nearly a year, and have reserved myself to the chain-restaurant humdrum of the Douglas/34 corridor. NO MORE! Just a few miles down 34 near the heart of Oswego, the Tap House Grill is situated just near the river. The first thing that struck me was this great location with excellent parking. Arriving, we seated ourselves and our waitress arrived quickly. After choosing a beer from the 40+ on the list, we ordered an appetizer and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. Part bar but mostly restaurant, this place was clean and friendly. Folks of all ages were around, even families. The food was phenominal. After spending time down the road at Red Robin, Chili's, Friday's, etc - I wondered how I'd never heard of this place The food was promptly delivered to the table, hot and fresh (almost too hot!). The items on the menu were varied and just a little gourmet without being pretenious. I haven't been able to find a great burger since a little place in Texas I fell in love with, but the Tap House Grill has what I consider to be one of the best flavored burgers I've ever had (and this wasn't even the Kobe burger, which is also on the menu). Everything was fresh and even the buns were a step above most places. Oh, and the tater tots - fantastically golden and crunchy with no stale oil flavor to be found. Dinner was closed out with some carrot cake. And let me just say - WOW! Carrot Cake! And I must add - Ladies, the bathroom was SPOTLESS. The beer was great, the food was better, and we even got to spend a bit of time chatting with the manager, Ryan. The staff were friendly and attentive, wihtout hovering or over doing it. Overall I'd recommend the Tap House Grill over any of the Douglas/34 corridor places. It's great for families and would make a great casual date place or just a place to hang out with friends. read more

I come here every week for trivia on Wednesdays with a group ranging from 3-6 people. I feel sad for people that have had a poor experience at this establishment because truthfully, I've never been forgotten or ignored by waitstaff. I think the service is exceptional. On a packed night, trivia questions blasting over the intercom, multiple servers running around -- I've never had a beer glass go empty for long, and I've always been able to order food. Best things I've had to eat: Sam Adam's Beer Battered Fried Chicken App. DROOL. It's just, whoa. So good. The bbq and honey mustard it comes with are just as great. Huge portion for only $9.99. Also, the cheese curd app --- winner. Burgers --- winners. Side salad is delicious. I'm pretty sure they make their own ranch. WINGS: Grade A, and that's saying a lot. Wing rating: 8/10. They are meaty, crispy, and appropriately adorned with your requested sauce. Nice ratio of bicep to forearm pieces. XL complaint: We want Trivia Guys Chicago back. They slam dunk everytime. FANTASTIC. I went with my husband and parents for dinner. We had the Tater Totchos and cheese curds for appetizers...wow!!! Definitely getting the Totchos again!! My husband got the Kobe beef burger and it was cooked to perfection...he loves that they offer tater tots as a side (and theirs are so crispy like we like them). Mom got a beer braised beef and gouda sandwich and loved every tasty bite. The side salad it came with was very nice. I got the drunken chicken and shrimp that comes with a generous portion of beans and rice. It had the perfect amount of heat and flavor. Even though we were full my Mom insisted on trying the homemade donuts and HOLY CRAP...they come to the table piping hot with a decadent chocolate sauce. And because we didn't finish them our awesome waitress Jessica brought us extra sauce to put with the ones we took home! Try the Peach Collins...its very good too!
