Living in Houston, you have the privilege just walking to any restaurant in northside or Houston for that matter and you get lucky to be served some amazing authentic food. This is one of those places that Anthony Bourdain would've loved. I mean my God how do you make food this good? The daughter of the owner was so nice. She told me their family was from San Luis Potosi. Food: their posole was made fresh and it was simply amazing. It has a very different flavor that I've never tried before. It was simply the best person that I've ever had. I can't put my finger on it, but it's some sort of different style or different ingredients because it's different from any other person that I've ever had but it's one of my favorites. The chips and salsa with three different sauces were simply amazing. Oh my God like how does food get this good. The breakfast taco with potato and bacon was great. You can tell they have homemade tortillas here. Customer service was great. Everyone that works. Here is very nice and very personable. This is an easy five star review. I cannot wait to come back and try more things off their menu. If you follow me and follow my reviews, I'm telling you, you need to come by and try this place and give them a review. Wow, what a unique experience this was. My friends and I went on a walk and the rain was so bad that we decided to take shelter at this restaurant. We were the only guests. In fact, there were more staff/family than us. Super cozy. Our waitress only spoke Spanish which was no issue for us (only clarification I needed was when I ordered my carne asada because it sounded like carne guisada). Food was incredible. I got two meals out of it for sure! I ended up only paying $15.99 for my plate. My friends loved their food and one of them ordered a lemonade and it was so concentrated that she was able to stretch it with water for a long time. My unsweet tea was delicious and they had only sweet n low which is my favorite. All the saccharine! We paid at the front and I don't think you can split checks. That's alright! Her checking in was slow and we didn't see her that often after we ordered. Food: The food was average. My husband enjoyed his enchiladas, but I did not really enjoy my carne asada. The meat tasted cheap and very fatty. Also, the rice and beans were very cheap or poorly made. The chips and salsa were ok, but the chips were almost stale. I've been back several times since the first time and brought my fiancé, my dad, my other brother and my mom, they all loved it and agreed the food is great. Taqueria Abasolo rules. I was definitely the only person in the place who didn't speak fluent Spanish, which is always a good sign. Chips and salsa were great. Two salsas, one super-hot salsa verde, and one of the creamy avocado-y style that seems to be common in Houston. Each tastier than the other. The California burrito was HUGE. More delicious Tex-Mexy goodness than I could eat in one sitting, and all for less than five bucks. If you are the kind of person who thinks a restaurant should have professional decor, matching furniture, and "ambiance", stay the heck away from Taqueria Abasolo. (And me.) This little restaurant is a hidden gem! My partner and I LOVE coming here. I have ordered just about everything on their menu. Our favorite is the caldo de res, the burritos, the molcajete, quesadillas and the flautas. The staff ladies are wonderful and always greet you with smiles. We are regular customers and they all know us here already. You won't be disappointed, they offer great tasting Mexican food and they even hand make their tortillas, you can't beat that! Stopped by after the Adele concert, around 11pm on a Wednesday, and was warmly greeted and seated. This place looks like an old house from the outside and the food reminds me of home cooking in the inside. The fajita tacos on homemade corn tortilla and the huge gordita were incredible. 4 tacos, 1 gordita, 1 Mexican coke and a large limonada for around $16 bucks. Cant beat that! I can order basically the same meal I do at other Mexican restaurants, but pay 20-30% less for nearly the same quality food, if not the same quality, and occasionally better.
