In the past (mind you, 7 years ago) I had gone earlier in the day and it was easier to get a seat. This time we were there at dinner time. Some things don't change after many years...and that's a good thing.

The steak was tender, juicy, and had a flavor I honestly hadn't experienced in a taco before. It had this deep, savory, smoky taste that felt completely different from the tacos I'm used to getting in Chicago. The meat itself was so well seasoned that it could easily stand on its own. The freshness from the pico balanced the richness of the steak, while the salsa brought a nice kick that stayed with you after every bite. Simple, but so much flavor packed into each taco. I'm really glad I finally got the chance to try La Taqueria.

They have someone in charge of seating people as well (much needed). This place is apparently a landmark. Old fashioned, fast paced, efficient, small, authentic, mostly delicious! Tried several of their tacos, the chicken quesadilla and a burrito. The burrito was delightful. Plenty of steak but still balanced and fresh. The steak tacos are also meaty and good. The meat is well seasoned and, being authentic, it is allowed to be the prominent ingredient. I would similarly describe the chicken and even the beef tongue tacos. What I loved the most, however, was the beef head taco. Immense and incredible flavor beefy flavor, not to mention that moat restaurants wouldn't dare having it on the menu. By far the best taco I've ever had. If I get the chance to visit La Taqueria again that's all I want to eat. Unfortunately there were also two items that I found to be disappointing. One was the quesadilla. Even though the chicken is good it was very greasy. The other was the pork taco. Didn't love the flavor and, again, a bit on the fatty side for me, which is not often my opinion on a pork dish. All in all, if you want to experience authentic tacos, go here. And... live a little! Order the beef head taco.

This place doesn't feel like San Francisco. It feels like Mexico, or like, you walked into an album cover for a record called, "1970's Mexican Restaurant". We just got the super nachos, called in to go. Said it would be 10 minutes, and he was right. Little did I know, they were such a tradish establishment, they didnt have those on the menu. So the dude just made me a secret menu item! What a champ. They waited until we got there to add the jalapenos, which was nice. However, these nachos had no shredded cheese. I kind of thought that was the point of nachos. Normally, I'd be like, "harumph!" but in some ways, I'm glad they left them off. There were so many veggies and beans and slices of avocado, that we didn't miss the cheese until we had almost devoured all of them. The chips were good quality chips, and all the veggies were pretty fresh as well. I might get nachos somewhere else if I were in the area, but if these were served to me again, I'd be down to eat them. Also, for $5.45 for a big ol' container of nachos with fresh avocados is a great deal. read more

I am pretty tough on Mexican food so 3 stars is pretttttty freakin good ! Very fresh and yummy food. Only downside was there wasn't anything that was spicy enough for my tacos! Its so disappointing to have a delicious taco and not have that spicy salsa your craving to be the cherry on top :( Other than that kuddos to this place ! They also sell menudo and cheesy pupusas like some in SF. They also sell carnitas burritos and fish tacos so you can do a lime squeeze if you feeling something sour like some in SF. They also sell chicharron. This is the spot in the Mission to get different types of tamales. Come visit the "Mission" not the same as the random social media posts and what you see on "television" some food can be found in the street corner and some inside a brick and mortar "kitchen" a place with so so many options to make a drink and food "decision" Go to La Espiga De Oro and get some tamales made of masa and "cornmeal" it's a value and a good "deal" for a delicious and for a quick" meal" and some wrappers can get corny like some on my social media feed just need to throw away the corn husk after you "peel"
