We have been coming here since it opened because we liked it and like the food. The previous time we were there we had a very pleasant experience because the people at the head of the line let us in because my husband, who is now at an advanced age, uses a cane and has a difficult time standing for long periods. On that same visit, the manager showed us to a table that was outside where we could talk and hear because my husband also wears hearing aids. So, we were prepared to have a good repeat visit when we took two friends there last night. The line was long so we went to sit at that same table that worked so well for my husband while the others stood in line to give our order. The manager - a different one - came to tell us we couldnt sit there because we hadnt placed our order. I tried to explain the situation and he, very rudely we thought, said "there might be other people in line with worse medical problems than you have and we have a sign posted with our policy." I said, so we all have to wait in that line and he said yes, no exceptions. We said we would leave and it took my husband some time to walk to the door, which the manager watched. There were no other people in line who appeared to need assistance. Having been coming here for 20+ years, we were gobsmacked by this treatment. We will not be back, and will tell others in our friends' group that this establishment does not want older people who need any special accommodations. And I think there is a lesson for the restaurant owners: be careful who you hire to represent you. read more

First things first, this location has ample parking and has been in business for several years. Clearly, something is working. There is usually a line at this location, but the food is worth it. When you walk in it's like modern food hall vibes. You line up, place your order, and find a table - inside or out. Service is pretty quick here, no long wait times. The Brisket Taco, I could've ordered 3/5 and been completely happy. Also, the queso...I could drench everything in that. Two stars because the lady at the counter who takes orders is beyond annoying, who gives you attitude, rudeness, and rolls her eyes when you don't tip. This is a counter service place that you wait in line forever for and you get your own drinks. Tipping is meant for service and you DO NOT get served here. Why would I wait in line for 30 minutes as one person slowly takes orders and then tip her for that? She literally watches you like a hawk and waits to see if you tip, and once you don't she gives you the dirtiest looks and won't say another word to you. She's done to me on several occasions and I'm so over it that I won't return to this location. Went there on my way back from Ikea about 15 minutes before closing and was delighted by everything there. Here is the summary of my experience there: 1) Ambiance 5/5: The place limited parking but they validate your parking which is great. They have heated outdoor seating which is great. The indoor is nothing like fine dining which this is not but casual and easy on the eyes. 2) Service 5/5: Although the place was busy, the order-taking was pretty quick, delightful, and helpful. 3) Food 5/5: Although the menu is limited, I feel there is something for everyone here. We were served with nachos with queso dip with jalapenos. I like things on the spicier side and so I loved the queso dip. Here is what we ordered: a) Veggie Bean tacos: I was not looking forward to it but it was really tasty and big. I ordered 2 and it filled me up. This is a great treat for people who love vegetarian dishes. b) Fried Chicken Taco: My wife ordered it and she loved it. c) We also ordered Fish and Briskett (recommended by the front desk) but my wife still liked the Fried chicken taco the best. Overall, if I had to nitpick any issue, it would be that they do not have soda on tap and serve Coke cans. 4) Value for Money 5/5: This is definitely one of the cheaper restaurants with great food. I mean my two tacos were under $10 and I felt full. Definitely worth the visit, now this chain will be on my radar whenever there is one around. What I love most about this local chain is the food is consistently good regardless of the location you choose. I've eaten at all of the Atlanta Metro locations and without fail, quality good food and still affordable. I highly recommend the Fried Chicken Tacos with Jalapeño Cole Slaw, the Brisket Tacos another Hit !! Brisket Enchiladas with Lemon Cream Sauce awesome and add a side of Beans and Rice. I'm also a big fan of the Chips and Salsa Trio...it's a great starter with more than one person eating - - they could be a meal all alone. Margaritas are pretty good also. They have a full bar so anything you want they can make. My only issue ever is that it's such a popular place - you will typically have to wait in a line around prime meal times so be prepared...you can't get a table until you order...so whole families or dinner parties are in line together which adds to the length of time you wait. They do validate parking at the Howell Mill Location too which is where I was last night.. there are other restaurants that share this lot so parking can be a bit tight - but hey it's West Midtown and kinda comes with the territory when eating anywhere in this area. The seating is ample and can accommodate a nice little group of friends for a meal - it's very casual and it has heated outdoor seating as well. 3 Strong Stars for food, drinks and overall value - from a service perspective - your interactions are so minimal and brief I've never just felt like it was anyone's pleasure to greet, welcome and take care of you. TDS is amazing. I've been coming here since it was Sundown Cafe on Cheshire Bridge. The tacos are great. Always taste the same. Some of the best cheese dip I have ever had. I like the fried chicken taco, the Memphis and many of the specialty tacos. Can't go wrong with the chicken enchiladas with lemon cream sauce. Pair with a Westside Margarita. There is usually a line, but it moves quickly. You can get a drink at the bar and have while you wait in line. Food comes quickly after you order and sit. read more

We love this location. If you come often enough you'll be greeted like old friends. It's best to study the menu before walking up to place your order. Orders are taken and filled promptly so there is always a table no matter the crowd. Honestly, everything is delicious. I love to come for dinner and order the seafood special. They are always so good. For lunch I order two fish tacos with extra jalapeños and a side of Eddie's greens. Amazing! The cheese dip is good and everyone loves their chicken tacos. Everyone is always in a good mood here. No one minds the line since it moves quickly and everyone is so gracious. I've eaten here a few times and I have a few thoughts, while overall I'll mention this place is fantastic. I'll always keep coming back! Their tacos and enchiladas are mouth-watering, the salsa trio is outstanding, the atmosphere is chill and service is always soooo fast even when they're packed to the brim. I've had their fried chicken tacos and their chicken +red chili enchilada on different occasions and both are ridiculously delicious. Although I'll mention the portion size for the enchilada appears to be a half-portion (taking up less than half of the plate, on a small plate). I'm a small person, and usually only eat half my food anyway, but by the end I was debating if I should just order another one - munching on the salsa trio instead turned out great. I love the atmosphere because it's so airy, bright with daylight (on a sunny day) with their patio space, and the bar area is wonderful. I also like the self-serve water station and upscale cafe vibe they have. There was once when I ordered the margarita, and they served something that looked like Mountain Dew (but it tasted good, definitely a margarita). I was confused because other people had these lovely pale green margs, and this was a strange neon green/yellow color. I'd only asked for "a margarita" - and I found later that they have two kinds with different names. If she's asked me which I preferred, I'd definitely have chosen the pale green one, even if it was slightly more expensive. I think it was a dollar or two extra. Overall this is a wonderful place. Sadly over the years I have been exposed to more areas of Mexican/tex-mex cuisine this place has lost some of its allure. What does this mean, for me I could see small areas to adjust and see what the impact could be. Something as little as fresh tortillas.. Nevertheless like I said everything is good. Never had a bad plate. But if there is something you really love get as much as you can because the time for specials is short and they don't come back as often as you would like. Bright place. Taqueria Del Sol is such an Atlanta classic! You can never go wrong with anything on the menu here and you are always guaranteed great food and servicing. The parking lot can be busy but Taqueria does offer a validation code for the ParkMobile which is great! Always start of with a classic Margarita and chips and queso and guac! The salsa trio is good too but the queso is better. For my main, I always get the fried chicken taco with a roasted chicken enchilada with salsa verde and it's the best!! So simple and delicious. I will add rice and beans but I've been told to next time get the shrimp and corn chowder instead or 2 tacos with the enchilada. Either way peces are great as well! Note: Racist, confrontational, and biased staff. What an awful staff! We come here, OFTEN, to all locations and this was the first bad experience ever. This was the 1st and only time that Steve the manager was not here, go figure. The bartender/bar waitress "Courtney" (5'11, white woman, dark hair) SO disrespectful and so was the assistant manager (tall, red head?, white woman, bangs) The assistant manager came over with no knowledge of the incident and immediately came at me. It is very clear that both of them are hostile and racist. The experience was so uncomfortable and as of now, I will never go back. I've sent all details to the manager of the restaurant so we will see how he responds. I will also use every power and might I have to contact corporate and report as far up as I can. I'm so embarrassed and utterly disgusted at this experience. Their bias and prejudice needs to be checked and I will make sure that it's done. People don't know who they're interacting with daily so it's important to be kind and respectful to everyone. This will be a lesson read more

This was my first time at this location and there was a long line out the front door. You park in the parking lot and then go inside! There's a code to have 2 hours of parking validated! This is awesome, cause paying for parking is annoying. I got the Memphis taco (bbq pulled pork) and the chicken taco (fried chicken with a honey crème type of sauce) and both were good, but a little pricey to me at $3.89 a pop. A salsa trip was about the same price and came with a Smokey chipotle type, salsa verde, and a more pico style of salsa- they were all fine. For me though, the margarita was not it. They pour them all from carafes and I'm not sure how long they're there for because mine tasted a bit watered down. If you order a soda, you'll get it in a can (no soda stations- FYI). It's a "get in where you fit in" style of seating- you grab a table or seat after you order, and I made a friend at a communal table. He raved about his food, but also was in agreement with me about the marg missing the mark. I would come back for the tacos though. read more

A lot has changed in 24 years, but one thing that has not changed is that there is a line out the door about every single time I'm there. Now I'm standing in that line with people that weren't even born when the restaurant opened, surrounded by luxurious buildings and businesses that were once just vacant industrial space. I'm not big on always getting the same thing at a restaurant . . . . except for here. One fish taco, one fried chicken taco, and absolutely the shrimp poblano corn chowder. . . I've been eating that since it was on the menu at Sundown Cafe back in 1996. I don't live in Atlanta anymore, but every time I'm back, there's at least one trip to Taqueria del Sol, and it's not even just for the nostalgia. read more

We came here for drinks at lunchtime on a weekday. It was very busy. We sat at the bar and ordered 2 of the worst tasting margaritas I've ever had. After maybe 15 minutes the old cranky dingbat of a manager came up to us and asked us to move so someone having lunch could sit down. Why could he not sit where she was moving us. Which was a community table away from the bar? When we moved we tried to order drinks from her and she instructed us to go to the bar. HA. I finally understand why there's always a line out the door at this place. Partially because the prices are reasonable, partially because people love Tex-Mex, and probably mostly because the booth where you order before you sit down is pretty close to the door, so naturally the line goes out the door pretty quickly. We arrived at 11:45am on a Monday, and it filled up within 20 minutes of us arriving. But everything moved pretty quickly - the line, grabbing a table on the nice covered patio (good for a rainy day for sure, but it was sunny for us), and the arrival of the food. We were shocked when it came out less than 5 minutes after we ordered. But the menu is pretty limited for lunch - maybe 6 tacos to choose from, a handful of enchiladas, and some starters and sides. So it makes sense that they can have all that ready to go and serve during lunch hour. Each item is a la carte, so you could do a taco and an enchilada or different kind of tacos together. They also had a very extensive drink menu, including pitchers of margaritas, but we didn't partake, so I can't speak to the quality. All our food was tasty. Not the best tacos I've had in my life, but perfectly sufficient if you have a craving. My favorite taco I tried was the fish taco (fried tilapia, jalepenos, and a delicious creamy sauce), and the carnitas taco was alright. We got the trio of salsas, and found them all to be very fresh. I get the hype, but I probably prefer Bone Garden Cantina if you're on this side of town and have a little more time to eat. read more

We met on a Thursday evening around 6:30pm. There were a group of six of us, so we lined up at the counter, ordered and paid individually, and the cashier and staff was very accommodating and cleared a table for us immediately. We were off to a great start! For my order, I chose the following: - Shrimp corn chowder: when I asked the cashier if this "was good", she rolled her eyes back and made a very reassuring face. This really is SOOO good, full of flavor and a bit of heat - very delicious! - Fried chicken taco: also based on the cashier's recommendation and this was much, much better than I expected for something so simple. The flavor is a bit band, but the chicken and breading is outstanding! Crispy, hot, delicious! - Cheese dip (more on that later) - Westside Margarita Our food came out pretty quickly and like I mentioned above, everything was very delicious. We enjoyed the food, our margaritas and the casual setting on their enclosed patio. Here's where things get wonky: After our food was delivered, I informed the food runner that we were missing one cheese dip (two had been delivered, but three of us ordered cheese dip for the table). The food runner then informs me there was already cheese dip and I let him know that yes, there were two cheese dips delivered to us, but we are missing one more. He then starts questioning who at the table ordered cheese dip and after I explained I had one of them, he told me what I received on my plate was Shrimp Chowder, not cheese dip. Once again, I reiterated that yes, I am aware and that I ordered both cheese dip AND shrimp chowder. The situation continues to get odd as we were all requested to show our individual receipts to prove we paid for three cheese dips. A couple of my colleagues pulled out their receipts but informed the staff this is useless as the receipts are not itemized. The food runner then walks away and calls over [who I assume to be] the manager. We explain the situation. The manager comes back over and speaks with one end of our table. He tells them he suspects the cashier did not hear the third order of cheese dip. He brings over a receipt that itemized everyone's order at the table to prove that yes, he was indeed correct and we did not pay for a third cheese dip. Unbeknownst to the other half of the table at the time, he also brings over a new bill for one cheese dip as well as the actual cheese dip. He sets the cheese dip down at the other end of the table (the end he did not speak with) and we are all thinking cool, resolved. Roughly a couple of hours later, as we've finished our meals, he comes back and asks us to settle up on the cheese dip. As you can imagine, the people who he didn't address in his initial conversation were pretty shocked at the ask and ultimately, the entire group was put off by this experience. Look, we all do pretty well so a $5 cheese dip isn't worth fighting about. We shouldn't be asked to pull our receipts to prove we actually paid for the item when those receipts aren't even itemized to show what we actually paid for. Management admitted it could be that the cashier didn't hear one of our orders correctly; why is this the fault of the customer? What if this were the other way around and the customer paid for more than what he/she ordered and would never know because receipts aren't itemized? Furthermore, I've spent the majority of my life in the industry and now I'm in operations management - I wish management here had enough forethought to question if a $5 cheese dip is worth souring the customer experience of 6 patrons. read more

I wish there was a bit more vegetable and maybe less sauce. 3/5 Carnitas Taco: This one was a classic. The carnitas were tender, the toppings were simple. Party of 2 for Dinner The taqueria is located in the Westside Provisions on Howell Mills Road. There is a medium sized parking lot that can get kinda packed. I was lucky enough to find an available space. The lot is affiliated with ParkMobile so you can electronically purchase your parking. As we arrived at the restaurant we stood in line, reviewed the menu and placed our order at the counter. After we ordered we went to find our own seating outside, on the covered patio. The menu had about 5-6 taco options and a good assortment of other Mexican choices. I ordered 2 fried chicken tacos and a side of jalapeno coleslaw. Wifey ordered 2 carnitas tacos with chips and guacamole. The beer menu was very respectable with about 12 options including some craft choices from local breweries. They also have a full bar if you are looking for something stronger than beer. I even saw another table order a full margarita pitcher to share, so that is another drink option. Our food came out pretty quickly. We really enjoyed the food, wifey said the guacamole was very good and had a little spicy kick to it. They have multiple staff members walking the floor and checking in to see if everything is good with your meal. We enjoyed our food, the service and overall ambiance. read more

I ordered the salsa trio which had this fantastic roasted chipotle salsa (not too spicy), pico, and spicy salsa verde. (Be warned: the salsa verde is pretty spicy so I don't recommend it for your enchiladas unless you're vegetarian cause that's one of the only options) Other than this, the chips are extremely fresh and addicting (wish they were free) and my enchiladas were fresh and tasty! I would order the bean enchilada again in a heartbeat, while the pulled chicken enchilada was a little too meaty for my taste. I would highly recommend the side of Mexican rice, since they do it really well (not too dry, very moist).
