On this day, I found myself in North Orange running errands and came across Taqueria La Poblana which I noticed for the first time. It is located in a larger strip mall, in comparison with the others in this part of town, and after a quick check on Yelp and the stars, I decided to stop in. When trying a new spot, I look to try menu items that might represent a good barometer for other items they have to offer. For Mexican food, I will look for a Carne Asada Burrito, a Cemita Poblana Sandwich or a Torta . . . especially if it's around the noon hour. Today, and after asking a few questions, I ordered the Cemita Poblana with Milanesa. To start, this is a Mom and Pop operation and the employee behind the counter could not have been nicer or more accommodating. It is not a large restaurant, but it is kept very clean and sufficient for a modest crowd of diners. The menu is displayed on screens behind their counter with some pictures of the items for reference. The Cemita Poblana was served within a very reasonable time and one thing that was very noticeable when it arrived is that it was actually assembled with care. After my first bite, it was evident that it contained all of the key ingredients to a Cemita sandwich. This included a fresh cemita roll, good portion of meat, long string cheese, avocado, a chipotle sauce, jalapeno and some greenery. Papilo, that green leafy vegetable with a distinctive taste, was not included. Besides the preparation, the avocado was perfectly ripened with just the right ratios of everything to make each bite as tasty as the last. The only refinement that they can make is to the Milanesa which could have benefitted by a little more golden breading as it was a bit light in this aspect. Following my meal, I had a chance to speak with the employee behind the counter and learned that they could make adjustments to orders. Their ability to accommodate might vary, but I would encourage you to ask. The menu offerings of Taqueria La Poblana was pretty vast with just about something for everyone. As indicated earlier, their service was really positive and helpful. This is a Taqueria that I encourage you to try. You will be served food that is prepared with TLC and that you will enjoy. Their food is prepared much like you might at a home where the food is tasty and inviting versus a what you would find at a chain restaurant. You will know what I mean once you give a try. I visited Taqueria La Poblana for lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. I had a chicken taco, chicken tamale ranchero, and a chicken quesadilla. The chicken taco was one of the best I've ever had. It was my first time having a tamale ranchero and it didn't disappoint. The chicken quesadilla was MASSIVE and delicious. I was quite impressed with the prices. My total for everything, including a Mexican Coke, was under $20. For SoCal, that's amazing, but honestly I would have paid so much more because the food was that good. I highly recommend Taqueria La Poblana. It's tucked away in a strip mall, but definitely worth going out of your way for. read more

Whoever rated this spot under 5 starts should really sit down and think about how and when they started to be a real sucker. This place is the G.O.A.T. Tortas that cover the whole plate. Crispy bread with tender, seasoned meat. Taco meat that hold 1/4 a cup of broth ATLEAST in each taco. House made salsas. Chipotle is bottom tier compared to this spot. Please support them. WOW. Just.. WOW! I couldn't believe the flavor that hit my tongue when I first bit into the asada burrito. It was an explosion of savory, spicy, and juicy goodness that I don't remember tasting in a minute. Really opened my eyes and set a new bar for me for authentic Mexican food. The gf got the tostadas and those came loaded with tons of toppings. I was surprised by the portions and will likely order those next time. The place is as you'd expect from a hole in the wall joint. They don't even deserve 1 star. To start the old guy taking orders is rude! He didn't even acknowledge us until I asked if he would be taking our order. They were out of al pastor at 7:00 pm on a Sunday night. I was very specific with ordering because most of the food was for my boys that dont' like any toppings on the tacos. He would write down the order on his notepad then type it on the cash register. Took them about 15-20 minutes to make 12 tacos, 1 burrito, 1 quesadilla and 1 hurache. I saw them microwave mostly all the tortillas. The guy taking orders handling cash was also making the tacos, didn't bother to wear gloves or wash his hands. They put toppings on the tacos, rather than apologizing, he goes back to his notebook and said no, you wanted everyting on them. I said no I didn't, I said all plain. There was nothing I could say or do to make him provide better customer service. To make things worse the food was disgusting. Fatty asada and lacked flavor, quesadilla was nothing special. This spot could have better customer service. The guy who appears to be the owner is so rude. Doesn't greet you and when you say hi he just says "what do you want" instead of being happy that he has customers buying his food. Doesn't greet you with respect or even welcomes you. The cooking is sloppy. I ordered the torta. Looks like it was made with anger and it's a slob of everything mixed up. Meat is poor quality. I can prep a better torta than this at home. I came was in town and me and my wife wanted some quick tacos while on our vacation. So we both ordered 3 tacos of carne asada and a chicken taco for my 1 year old daughter. I sat down waiting for my order and the guy working comes up to me and ask if I was going to order when I already did place my order mind you the place was empty other than 1 person eating. Then he proceeded to make our tacos with no gloves on after touching cash and other stuff around the restaurant. Got my food and left not wanting to eat the tacos but eventually took a bite cause we were all hungry and spit the food right out because Tortillas were cold and meat was very chewy. My wife right away got disgusted from the fat parts of the meat and decided to just toss them to the trash and went to canes down the street instead. I've been here about 4 times and enjoyed the tacos and burritos very much. In a city just full of great little taquerias this one is right up there. Prices are dirt cheap, the meats are a little saucier than most places. No chips and salsa served first, but that is not typical at taquerias ( Carnitas Los Reyes is an exception). On the weekends they do mole poblano and menudo but I haven't tried them yet. read more

Taquitos (tacos dorados) were excellent. Small mom and pop shop, so it's not a large chain like Taco Bell! Sure they work lots of hours standing in their feet! So I randomly came across this handy dandy lil taqueria as I was roaming around at lunch yet again... Was really in the mood for a chorizo taco but they dont have them here... Instead I ended up with Pollo, Carne Asada, and Al Pastor. Its a nice little storefront with inside and outside eating. A lot of Latino patrons were present both sitting and entering/exiting... The Pollo was so so... The Al Pastor was kinda tasty and the Asada was very tasty. I can definitely see coming back here again for lunch sometime. The taco's were $1.25 ea. They have a bunch of other stuff on the menu, but you know me I am here for the tacos! The red sauce was a bit creamy and pretty tasty. It wasnt that spicy but had a nice subtle lil after kick. very enjoyable. This place was not the best taco joint that I have been to but it definitely was better than many others. Passing grades to the Al pastor and Carne Asada... the Pollo was not passing IMHO. First time eating here and I can say with certainty that if you are looking for truly authentic tasting Mexican food this is the best spot in Orange within a 10 mile radius! Don't let the location and visual aspects deceive you, if you are a true foodie and care more about taste and quality versus appearance this is it! I have no idea why it is so poorly rated on yelp. They have a simple menu but cover all the basics of Mexican cuisine. My wife and I ordered a torta de asada which was delicious and well served, a sope de carnitas, also delicious and tasty! It was larger than I expected and they did not skimp out on the meat serving portion. We also tried a few tacos and for the price of $1.65 each they can't be beat! The owner Carlos and his wife have been running the place for 13 years. Very nice hardworking people and run a great tasting location. When u come in, it might look like no one is behind the counter, but just simply ring the bell and a nice gentleman will come and take your order. Now, every time, I come with the intention of trying their famous "Cemitas", but somehow I order their torta de milanesa and two tacos de carne asada (yes im a pig). Their tacos are by far better than taqueria de anda. Their tortilla is lighty tapped with oil and heated to perfection. Add carne asada and their delicious and spicy red salsa and those tacos are delicious! Their torta is nothing out of the ordinary: milanesa, avocado, tomato, beans and lettuce; however, their bread is heated to a soft touch, the milanesa is lighty breaded and no fat on the meat, and all the produce are fresh; which makes this combination taste like a "homemade" torta! The ONLY thing I get from here are the cemitas poblanas, they papalo in them! Grab yourself your favorite agua fresca (they have horchata, Tamarindo, Jamaica) and enjoy a cemita.
