    Quesabirria
    Chyna C.

All the places around me either raised their prices, sacrificed quality of their food, or do not taste as good as it used to. I thought I'd give Whipple Taqueria a try. Upon first glance, it needs a good scrubbing, signs should be typed up and not hand written (even with my glasses on it was hard to read), and overall beautification needs to happen. All staff had masks on and they still have partitions and tables for everyone's safety. They have a taco plate that comes with 3 tacos, beans, rice, and toppings for $8.99 which sounded like a good deal to me. Then I saw a sign saying "we make quesabirrias". They are one for $4.00 or 3 for $11.00 which is a good price and the norm for quesabirrias. I ordered one taco plate, a Coke, and one quesabirria. My order came to ~ $16, not including tip. Just an FYI, if you spend under $10 with a card, there's a .50 cent surchage. My order came with 2 bags of warm tortilla chips and 6 small containers of salsa which was nice. Most places don't offer free chips and salsa anymore, even before the Covid times. The taco plate and quesabirrias was served on two separate plates. The taco plate has one scoop of beans and one scoop of rice with 3 tacos. The beans and rice was a bit small from what I'm used to but I still think that it is a good deal. They came fully loaded with pieces of chicken (they have other options but this is what I chose) cilantro, onions, 2 slices of lime, and carrots/radishes. The quesabirria was small in size but it was packed with meat and a layer of cheese. They also gave me a small container of consome and cilantro/onions. All of the toppings were really fresh! The chicken tacos were good BUT I do not like the tortillas. They were kind of thick and chewy so I did not eat them. The beans and rice tasted like they might have come out of a can which was pretty disappointing. Same with the salsas. The quesabirria was REALLY good though. Tender beef, melty cheese with a nice pull, and soft tortilla soaked in consome. The consome itself was delicious! I drizzled the rest on my 3 tacos. This place is really decent and I think that it will me my new regular place for Mexican food, specifically for their quesabirrias. I'm ready to go order some more!

It's not bad for a take out spot. I haven't had a burrito in so long, i came for a Lengua burrito , super. However, it didn't seem like there was any guacamole in it. I would come back because it is close to my job. Fairly cheap too.

Good service. Paid 12.99 for super burrito. Wanted a tasty tortilla. Received a super very very light toasty tortilla. Which turned into soggy burrito. Plus wasn't too much chicken. Thanks won.t be back again. Might as well order a veggie burrito .

Love their tacos! And at $1.50 each, I'm satisfied without breaking the bank. I've only had steak and chicken, respectively. Add both red & green salsa for full effect! A bit watery, but hey, totally makes the taco experience when you've got fresh tomato juice running down your chin! I've never stepped foot in here but Mom gets take out. Got home one day to four loaded styrofoam plates covered in aluminum foil, about five tacos on each? And it was Tuesday, how fitting XD Seasoned meat, cilantro, onions, and two thin corn tortillas. Simplicity at its best. Don't forget the red & green salsa for heat! Comes with chips ... get that crunch munch XD

Does the breakfast burrito have rice and no eggs in it? I went there last night to order one for my breakfast/lunch to find out it was only bacon cheese and rice. the girl even wrote all the ingredients down.

YUM! bare minimum i know but still yum. the carne asada was hella mid. like no flavor. the spicy pork was better and had great flavor! i made my friend eat the beans because aint no way i'll be cropdusting and blowing up the toilet. it's not too bad for the price but isn't special. in fact it is quite tipico!

We went with the vegetable option, it's still cheesy, of course, but didn't feel as heavy as it might have with the chorizo. I ordered the Tipico fajitas which comes with steak, chicken, and shrimp. I liked it overall, though it could have used a bit more seasoning. My partner had the mole and really enjoyed it, especially with the fresh corn tortillas served alongside the fundido and his entree. The restaurant itself is cute and quaint. It's usually pretty busy, but we've always managed to get seated right away. I also really love their house salsa, it's spicy, addictive, and seriously delicious.

Playa Azul -- Where Food Meets Genuine Human Connection As…read moresoon as we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and friendliness by Mauricio while we bobbed our heads to Hall and Oates' "Maneater" playing in the background -- followed by "Funky Little Beat" by Connie. We knew immediately this was our vibe. We sat down and read through the menu. A lot of dishes I wasn't familiar with, so naturally I defaulted to what I knew -- quesadilla de camarón. My wife did the smart thing and asked for recommendations. Mauricio suggested three dishes and she chose the last one- I think it was because something about tequila . When it was my turn, I proudly placed my order. Without missing a beat, Mauricio looked at me and said, "Bro, you can get that anywhere -- you should try this." He began describing the dish, then pointed to his dad sitting patiently at a corner table. "That's his invention." No more words needed. I said sold. Our dishes arrived and we immediately moved them to the center of the table so we could share both. I had the seafood fajitas -- shrimp, fish, fajita vegetables, and the most tender, flavorful pulpo I've ever had. All the seafood was cooked perfectly: tender but not falling apart. But the octopus and the sauce were something special. Chef Jose came to check on us and I told him about the pulpo. His eyes lit up as he began describing his preparation process -- then he said, "You want to see?" He walked me right into his kitchen and showed me the octopus being prepared. That moment alone was worth the visit. By the time we returned to our table, the restaurant had started to fill up. We continued enjoying our food, including the handmade soft tortillas that came with my dish -- don't sleep on those. Chef Jose stopped by again, sharing more stories, more passion, more of himself. Before we even finished eating, we were already planning our next visit for happy hour and dinner with the family. This is a perfect example of what Will Guidara calls Unreasonable Hospitality -- unexpected, personalized, and genuinely human. Mauricio and Chef Jose aren't just running a restaurant. They're sharing something they love, and you feel it in every bite and every interaction. Thank you, Mauricio and Jose. We'll be back.

The Fajitas de Mariscos came with tons of seafood in a savory sauce. It came with rice w/corn and beans. We also had the Camarones Costa Azul which was jumbo shrimp wrapped with bacon in a savory tomato sauce + cheese. Definitely a heavy dish but pretty tasty! I really liked the homemade tortillas here; they were so soft and went well with the shrimp and fajitas. Prices are in the higher end but portions are also huge! There seemed to be just a husband and wife when we dined. They were very welcoming and helpful with explaining the menu. Place was very spacious with lots of seating.

I have only ever left 5-star reviews because I love supporting small businesses, but after tonight,…read morewe will no longer be supporting this spot. We have been loyal regulars here for a long time, coming at least once a week. Honestly, the main reason I kept coming back and always tipped well, even when the staff was sometimes just whatever, is because the guy who owns it is always so nice, friendly, and works incredibly hard. Unfortunately, his wife handled things tonight, and the service was absolutely horrible. We ordered a steak burrito, and let me tell you, the meat was completely inedible. It was just pure gristle in every single bite, to the point where we couldn't even chew it and only ate about a fourth of it. They also forgot to give us salsa with our chips. When we called to let them know about the meat, his wife started chopping up meat on her end, arguing with me, and insisting the food was perfectly fine and fresh. My wife, who is visibly 8 months pregnant, actually walked the burrito back into the restaurant just to show her the gristle. Because the lady said to bring it back show her. Instead of making it right or offering a simple switch for a chicken burrito like my wife had asked, she completely lacked empathy and flat-out said, "I can't remake your burrito." I called back to ask what could be done to fix this, and she started telling me to stop yelling at her. I wasn't yelling at all, my other baby was screaming in the background because my wife left the house to try and get the food fixed. She then hung up the phone on me. Apparently, she told my wife she even consulted her husband before refusing to fix it. It is so unfortunate that a business we supported weekly would treat regulars this way, but they have officially lost customers for life. The owner also said she was going to reply to me on here. Waiting for an explanation of how you turned away an 8 month pregnant lady?
