All the places around me either raised their prices, sacrificed quality of their food, or do not taste as good as it used to. I thought I'd give Whipple Taqueria a try. Upon first glance, it needs a good scrubbing, signs should be typed up and not hand written (even with my glasses on it was hard to read), and overall beautification needs to happen. All staff had masks on and they still have partitions and tables for everyone's safety. They have a taco plate that comes with 3 tacos, beans, rice, and toppings for $8.99 which sounded like a good deal to me. Then I saw a sign saying "we make quesabirrias". They are one for $4.00 or 3 for $11.00 which is a good price and the norm for quesabirrias. I ordered one taco plate, a Coke, and one quesabirria. My order came to ~ $16, not including tip. Just an FYI, if you spend under $10 with a card, there's a .50 cent surchage. My order came with 2 bags of warm tortilla chips and 6 small containers of salsa which was nice. Most places don't offer free chips and salsa anymore, even before the Covid times. The taco plate and quesabirrias was served on two separate plates. The taco plate has one scoop of beans and one scoop of rice with 3 tacos. The beans and rice was a bit small from what I'm used to but I still think that it is a good deal. They came fully loaded with pieces of chicken (they have other options but this is what I chose) cilantro, onions, 2 slices of lime, and carrots/radishes. The quesabirria was small in size but it was packed with meat and a layer of cheese. They also gave me a small container of consome and cilantro/onions. All of the toppings were really fresh! The chicken tacos were good BUT I do not like the tortillas. They were kind of thick and chewy so I did not eat them. The beans and rice tasted like they might have come out of a can which was pretty disappointing. Same with the salsas. The quesabirria was REALLY good though. Tender beef, melty cheese with a nice pull, and soft tortilla soaked in consome. The consome itself was delicious! I drizzled the rest on my 3 tacos. This place is really decent and I think that it will me my new regular place for Mexican food, specifically for their quesabirrias. I'm ready to go order some more! read more

We ordered a Super Burrito, the bira quasadillas since the owner was saying it was so popular, and five different tacos. The total was around $60. Let me be honest and say, this place should go out of business. The food is nearly inedible. The people seem nice. The owner was trying his best to sell everything. The problem is the food completely sucks. The meat of a Mexican joint, and I love Mexican food, is the heart. You can have amazing guacamole, some special spicy sauce (like La Victoria), or maybe you just throw in a hunk of cheese in the middle like in Tacqueria Los Pericos. All I know is everything was burnt overcooked. I took a bit of the burrito and had to spit it out, I couldn't chew it. The Carnitas was really gross. The same can be said of the chicken and the Carne Asada. With the meat inedible, the entire bite is ruined. I looked in the burrito and I wanted to gag. This just looks disgusting. The owner also gave me a free sample of the mango agua fresca. Sounds good right? No, it was terrible. I had to swallow it because he was smiling and saying how its all home made and no syrups. I checked this place out on my lunch break today! Wasn't super busy at all; and it's a rather large establishment. There was some house cleaning items that needed to be taken care of like cleaning of the tables and floors. Mind you, it wasn't busy when I went In and there were probably 5 tables occupied that already had their food. I took it light today and ordered a couple tacos. I order a carnitas and pastor tacos. They also had a salsa bar with chips; if you spend over $5 the chips will be free. My food came out rather quickly and looked full for the taco size! Flavor wasn't all there for the pastor tacos; they tasted almost flavorless even with salsa on top. The carnitas on the other hand were delicious and not dry like at most places I've been to! Tacos de carne asada is what we just ordered. There meat is very poor quality.. I cant eat them as i keep spitting out the meat into a napkin. Im glad I took them to go vs eating inside that would of been awkward..to be spitting inside. They looked good they tasted good flavor but u cant eat it :( They had many waters that look really good but i didnt try. They should have lids on the waters though to have food safety. *Tacos are $1, everyday! Key take aways from my Taco Tuesday experience yesterday: 1) When deciding on which meat to get, proceed without hesitation for the carne asada, that issssh was yummy! Juicy, some fatty pieces, full of flavor! Taco comes with sprinkles of onion and cilantro, typical corn tortilla tacos. 2) For the take out orders/boxes, they don't fill it up completely. If you need a large order of Spanish rice go for the bigger styrofoam container, as they only fill the depth of the box, versus the entire vertical and horizontal part of the box (if that made absolutely no sense, order a side of rice then you'll know what I'm talking 'bout). *wink. 3) The fluorescent orange "spiciest" salsa in NOT spicy, if anything it had more of a smokey taste (this one is not good). I preferred the green salsa, chunky red salsa and (my fav) the liquidy-red salsa over all the others. The liquidy-red salsa with more pepper seeds was seriously spicy and sour. Looks like this place is family owned and actually operated by all the family members, so for that I would consider returning for another round of tacos anytime/any day of the week! read more

I went straight to work after eating here and I couldn't stop thinking about my amazing experience today. After going to the gym, I was biking towards work. It was about 2:38pm when I passed by Whipple Taqueria. I remember someone talking about how bomb their tacos are so I told myself I'd come back another time. Then I remembered that I'm going on a diet starting this Friday, so I immediately turned back around. I got 3 spicy pork tacos for $3.31. $1 tacos all day everyday?! Taco Mondays, Taco Tuesdays, Taco Wednesdays, Taco Thursdays, Taco Fridays, Taco Saturdays, and Taco Sundays!!!!!! I only had change on me so I gave the cashier hella quarters. I apologized and he laughed, saying that they needed change anyway :) My tacos came out in less than 2 minutes. It was 2:46pm so I scarfed my tacos down. Oh my goodness, they were so delicious. They were fully packed with meat, onions, and cilantro, yummy! The tortillas were perfectly cooked, slightly crispy, just how I like them. Fck $1 Taco Tuesdays! Why not $1 Taco Everyday!! Whipple Taqueria is the only taco place that I have been to so far that sells Tacos for $1 each everyday. Right in the same plaza as Nayong Filipino, parking is a bit limited but I came during early dinner time on a Thursday and it was not packed at all. It's crazy how not a lot of people know about this place. Not the best tacos I have ever eaten but you definitely get what you pay for! Good tacos for a cheap ass price. I also order a California burrito, which contains french fries in a burrito if you're not familiar with it. I had to take my order to go since I was on my work clock. My order took about ten minutes to prepare. Once I got home, I unwrapped the foil of the paper plate revealing four nicely prepared tacos. Assembled with flour tortillas, meats, and topped with cilantro and onions, my mouth was already watering! With the squeeze of some lime over these tacos made them taste much better. As for the California burrito, it was good. It was stuffed with french fries, carnitas, cheese, sour cream, and refried beans. Al pastor just dry! FREE chips if you spend $5 or more. Hubby ate them, I didn't try. FREE salsa bar, the bright orange sauce is the Spicest one, but not that tasty. They don't have the pico de gallo sauce that I like. The chicken soup is Huge, we shared it. Soup is good, chicken dry. Comes with a side of rice, cilantro, raw white onions and corn of flour tortillas, we asked for corn. That helped me make more rice tacos w/ some dry chicken and lots of salsa on top. I will be back for more $1 tacos and to try the Enchilada plate. I saw Indian men eating Enchilada plates probably cheese. Looked good and only $8 I think. One unisex bathroom. My coworker told me about Whipple Taqueria. Good tacos for a dollar. Every where else tacos are $1.25 to $1.50 or more. Here, you can get one dollar tacos everyday. Small in size and fully packed with meat. Their asada and lengua are really good. Their pastor was good but not the best. They need to fully deep fry their tripa (gut) to give it that crispy crunchy texture. Soggy tripas are no bueno :( If they can do that. I will give them an extra star. Avoid coming here during lunch because it gets crazy and their service is really slow. You need to grab your own condiments which are located next to the register. Also, free chips with a purchase of $5 or more which I think isn't worth it because you only get around 10 to 12 chips in the basket. Yes, I counted! Whats wrong with having a full basket of chips? Waiting for Taco Tuesday, for that $1 special? Why wait around, when you can get $1 tacos everyday! Whipple Taqueria is located in a plaza, on the corner of Whipple and Medallion Drive. It's definitely one of the better taco places I've to in the area (Hayward-Union City). The interior looks reallyyy plain with barred up windows on the outside, but it's a good sized restaurant. Service is good, they serve it to you at your table. It's also about 1 mile from Union Landing. The tacos are small in size, but it can definitely satisfy your hunger. I ordered 6 tacos (could only eat 5..), two of each - Al Pastor, Carnitas, and Asada. I hope you can finish fast, cause they're better when they're hot! All three meaty tacos were delicious cause the meat was tender and nice. My favorite was probably the Al Pastor because of it's crunchiness...but we warned, it was also the oiliest one out of the three! My hands and plate had oil all over, afterwards. Their drinks are a little overpriced, but I guess that's how it is for small businesses. Canned soda is $1, Arizona is $1.50, beer is $4..that's all I remember. If you order $5 or more of food, you can get a free side of chips! They also have a salsa bar, but most of them were watered down when my friend and I came in (7:30 pm). As for their food menu option, they do have regular, super, and kids burritos in size! If I'm craving tacos, I know I will definitely be coming back!
