Playa Azul -- Where Food Meets Genuine Human Connection As…read moresoon as we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and friendliness by Mauricio while we bobbed our heads to Hall and Oates' "Maneater" playing in the background -- followed by "Funky Little Beat" by Connie. We knew immediately this was our vibe. We sat down and read through the menu. A lot of dishes I wasn't familiar with, so naturally I defaulted to what I knew -- quesadilla de camarón. My wife did the smart thing and asked for recommendations. Mauricio suggested three dishes and she chose the last one- I think it was because something about tequila . When it was my turn, I proudly placed my order. Without missing a beat, Mauricio looked at me and said, "Bro, you can get that anywhere -- you should try this." He began describing the dish, then pointed to his dad sitting patiently at a corner table. "That's his invention." No more words needed. I said sold. Our dishes arrived and we immediately moved them to the center of the table so we could share both. I had the seafood fajitas -- shrimp, fish, fajita vegetables, and the most tender, flavorful pulpo I've ever had. All the seafood was cooked perfectly: tender but not falling apart. But the octopus and the sauce were something special. Chef Jose came to check on us and I told him about the pulpo. His eyes lit up as he began describing his preparation process -- then he said, "You want to see?" He walked me right into his kitchen and showed me the octopus being prepared. That moment alone was worth the visit. By the time we returned to our table, the restaurant had started to fill up. We continued enjoying our food, including the handmade soft tortillas that came with my dish -- don't sleep on those. Chef Jose stopped by again, sharing more stories, more passion, more of himself. Before we even finished eating, we were already planning our next visit for happy hour and dinner with the family. This is a perfect example of what Will Guidara calls Unreasonable Hospitality -- unexpected, personalized, and genuinely human. Mauricio and Chef Jose aren't just running a restaurant. They're sharing something they love, and you feel it in every bite and every interaction. Thank you, Mauricio and Jose. We'll be back.

The Fajitas de Mariscos came with tons of seafood in a savory sauce. It came with rice w/corn and beans. We also had the Camarones Costa Azul which was jumbo shrimp wrapped with bacon in a savory tomato sauce + cheese. Definitely a heavy dish but pretty tasty! I really liked the homemade tortillas here; they were so soft and went well with the shrimp and fajitas. Prices are in the higher end but portions are also huge! There seemed to be just a husband and wife when we dined. They were very welcoming and helpful with explaining the menu. Place was very spacious with lots of seating.

They offer plenty on their menu and have special deals too. You order at the counter and seat yourself. Service was okay. Not many people dining in but a lot of pick up orders. The sopes: Got 2 carnitas sopes and the meat was perfect. Soft but with a slight crisp and the flavor was all there. Plenty of cheese that caused a nice cheese pull. The steak nachos: They use shredded mozzarella but I don't think it was enough. A lot of the chips were bare and the ones that had it were dried out. The guac and sour cream balanced it out. The tacos: We got asada, chicken, and buche. Your average yellow tortilla perfectly oiled and heated up. I do feel like they skimped on the amount of meat they put on the asada tacos and the quality of the meat wasn't the best as there was a lot of fatty pieces. The winning meat was definitely the buche. It was fried just right and had a lot of flavor. The chicken was also very well seasoned and juicy. The green salsa was superior to the red salsa. It had a good heat level that wasn't overpowering like the red one. I appreciated that they added the pickled veggies on the side. Overall, a solid taco and sope spot. I will definitely return to try other items on the menu.

These tacos absolutely hit. However.... the wait. Taco Tuesday apparently activates some sort of time vortex. To-go orders routinely take 45 minutes to an hour, and dine-in isn't much better. You'll place your order, age emotionally, maybe grow a beard, and then BOOM tacos. Worth it? Usually. Efficient? Absolutely not. Outside of Taco Tuesday, prices jump fast. Case in point: $9 for 8 oz of guacamole. It's good guac, but at that price I half expect it to come with a tiny mariachi band or at least whisper affirmations while I eat it.

We decided to take it easy and ordered a Coke & Shirley temple. Appetizers- You have to order the wings. I decided to order the sauce on the side since my partner doesn't do spice all that much but just the wings alone.. WOW. Those were rich & tasty. The food was delicious. Next time, I'll have to order some salsa for my main dish since I forgot to ask since I do like some heat on my dish. Besides that, I'd come back here again. Alambre & Chimichangas perfectly cooked

I can't say enough good things about the staff that took care of us. Jessica, Pepe, and the manager Luis ensured that our event ran smoothly. Jessica took care of our drink orders and Pepe made sure the food Buffett was regularly replenished. Both of them constantly cleaned up around the cocktail tables, ensuring that the area stayed presentable throughout the event. The Mexican always has great pricing on drinks so the guests enjoyed a variety of them. The food was delish and everything served was not only pretty to look at but also tasty. They also let us use their mic and speaker system, which I think is a plus. All in all we loved having our event at the Mexican and would recommend this venue to anyone wanting to host an intimate event.

I have only ever left 5-star reviews because I love supporting small businesses, but after tonight,…read morewe will no longer be supporting this spot. We have been loyal regulars here for a long time, coming at least once a week. Honestly, the main reason I kept coming back and always tipped well, even when the staff was sometimes just whatever, is because the guy who owns it is always so nice, friendly, and works incredibly hard. Unfortunately, his wife handled things tonight, and the service was absolutely horrible. We ordered a steak burrito, and let me tell you, the meat was completely inedible. It was just pure gristle in every single bite, to the point where we couldn't even chew it and only ate about a fourth of it. They also forgot to give us salsa with our chips. When we called to let them know about the meat, his wife started chopping up meat on her end, arguing with me, and insisting the food was perfectly fine and fresh. My wife, who is visibly 8 months pregnant, actually walked the burrito back into the restaurant just to show her the gristle. Because the lady said to bring it back show her. Instead of making it right or offering a simple switch for a chicken burrito like my wife had asked, she completely lacked empathy and flat-out said, "I can't remake your burrito." I called back to ask what could be done to fix this, and she started telling me to stop yelling at her. I wasn't yelling at all, my other baby was screaming in the background because my wife left the house to try and get the food fixed. She then hung up the phone on me. Apparently, she told my wife she even consulted her husband before refusing to fix it. It is so unfortunate that a business we supported weekly would treat regulars this way, but they have officially lost customers for life. The owner also said she was going to reply to me on here. Waiting for an explanation of how you turned away an 8 month pregnant lady?

We were lucky to order and get seated right away, coz the line was soon out of the door! The service is friendly and courteous and the staff goes out of their way to ensure you're enjoying their food. These guys made the Michelin Bib Gourmand list in 2021 and 2025 and once you eat their food, you can see why. We got a steak burrito and a chorizo quesadilla which is more like a large taco. They have a bunch of dishes from Mexico City that you don't typically see in typical Mexican restaurants. The burrito was served with pickled vegetables and the quesadilla came with limes and cucumber slices on the side. They have two amazing salsas both of which are good. The salsa verde was my favorite - spicy, garlicky and on the money!! That itself should be bottled and sold! We will be back with friends!

I liked the amount of fattiness and juices the carnitas one had. It really melts away in your mouth. The pieces of lengua were much bigger than the ones I typically get at other taco places, didn't stand out too much for me. The carne asada one was pretty well seasoned! The other plate of tacos include lengua, carne asada, carnitas, chorizo, and cabeza For drinks, we both got the guavayaba agua frescas, quite refreshing and not artificial :) Lastly, we ordered a plate of churros for dessert. Piping hot!! Nicely coated with sugar and filled with a crème (forgot what it was exactly). It got a little bit too sweet near the end for me, but it was a good dessert!
