My neighbor bought his son some Tacos. His son didn't want them so, he offered them to me. I gladly accepted them. I don't like to be wasteful of Tacos. They look delicious! I give them a five star review just for presentation! They were Barbacoa Tacos with the usual Cilantro and Onions and an assortment of Salsas! Turns out the Barbocoa Tacos were dry and flavor less but there was a lot of meat in each Taco. Each Taco had 4 mini Tortillas. My favorite sauce was the Salsa Verde. The Orange Hot Sauce was good but, it was too hot for me. The Red Salsas were bland and watery. Well, I would recommend this place. The Salsas are good and the Cilantro and Onion are fresh and they are only a Dollar. You have nothing loose. It's better than cooking. read more

Have driven by san Luis literally for years and finally decided to drop in last week. Signs inside said CASH ONLY and I had enough for 2 tacos with avocado on both and ordered to go. I was the only person inside and noticed another customer at the drive thru which I knew I'd use if I returned. Cashier/waitress was friendly and quick to assist. The first thing I noticed was that each taco had 2 tortillas which rocks! One tortilla is a pet peeve of mine because it rarely holds up to the taco filling. I had one asada and 1 pastor. Both were delicious but the pastor was my favorite. Cilantro, onions, lemons and salsa were served on the side. The red was fine but the green was great! Super spicy! I returned today (used the aforementioned drive thru - where I saw that credit cards are accepted but for $1 fee) with a little more cash so I could order a taco plate which comes with 4 tacos (you can mix and match meat) and charro beans. I asked to sub rice for the beans and the same cashier from last week was happy to oblige. When she handed me my order and I her tip she realized she had failed to include the rice which she was "getting from the microwave" . Thanks to her forgetting i was able to try the rice and beans. I found both had minimal flavor but really liked the fact that the rice was on the sticky side which is my preference. Oyyyyyy! It's been a while since the last time I had any tacos from a taqueria and this place was quite a treat for me last night. It was 11pm and I was so pumped when I found out that they are open late. We ordered asada and pastor to-go and it came with 2 small,cup full of their famous beans. The tacos are great, meat is seasoned well and it was tender. But the beans is the star of the night! I wasn't really expecting it to be that awesome. It was rich, beany, bacony, and that kick from the jalapeño gave it more life than what beans could handle. Lol. I sipped on that cup like I was sipping a hot coffee first thing in the morning. As a taco spot, this taqueria spot is good for a quick lunch but leaves more to be desired. I will note that I did NOT try the tortas nor beans that others have raved about. In terms of tacos, I got the 4 taco plate that comes with beans. Instead of beans, I was able to switch it out for another side, but they also recommended that I switch it out for another taco, which I gladly did! I tried chicken, barbacoa, and the flank steak. I topped off the tacos with chopped onions, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. The meats were ok, but nothing stood out with the seasoning and there wasn't any unique flavoring. I will say that I preferred the chicken and steak slightly more than the barbacoa. Sitting in, you get to enjoy complimentary chips and salsa. The service was fast and the waitress was friendly and patient as I made my order. Perhaps the tortas or gorditas are more memorable, but the tacos would not be enough to come back for. read more

I used to live right around the corner from this location (it's number 3, there are 4). While I did my best to work my way through the menu, what became my de facto meal was the torta pastor. Pair this with a icy cold horchata and your mouth will be in heaven. A true pastor is similar to a Greek Gyro. The meat is cooked on a vertical rotisserie. If you don't see your pastor being cut off the spit, it's not a true pastor. Most places have their own (secret) recipe, and Taqueria San Luis' is one of the best. While waiting for your food, you will be given some tortilla chips and salsa. The bowls of salsa always have plastic spoons in them. I've never seen salsa served this way, and it always tends to confuse me (Am I really supposed to spoon the salsa onto my chips?). Bottom line, I like the food here, but now I make a special trip just for the torta pastor. read more

I really wanted to give this place a good review. I was hoping this mom and pop taqueria was a hidden gem. Unfortunately this is not the case. We decided to try it based on their 4 star rating. Big mistake. The barbacoa was dry, crunchy and flavorless- not at all fresh. I ordered the gorditas and I couldn't eat the tortillas as they were hard and the oil they were browned in was rancid. Beans and rice weren't very tasty either. I'm Hispanic and I know what authentic Mexican food should taste like. This place missed the mark on both taste and freshness. We are literally leaving here hoping we don't get sick. I wish I could at least say the customer service was excellent but I can't even say that. Did someone say tacos?? I had been to a taqueria San Luis in Arlington, but I didn't know if it will be the same owners or even the same taste as what I had tried. Well let me tell you it is!! Yes, that's a good thing. As soon as I saw the menu I knew it was the same place. They have 3 locations in Fort Worth, but this is the one I came to and returned within a couple of days from my first visit. The spot is very small and it doesn't look like all that from the outside. Once you make it inside you probably be like why- am I I here?? Well don't let that drive you away because the food is delicious but we will get to that in a little bit. The parking is not too big but enough room not to worry about the parking. They have a couple of tables and booths inside the restaurant. I didn't make it to the bathrooms to see if they are clean or not. I did wash my hands but it was in a little sink next to the kitchen, which it was weird but I wasn't going to eat with dirty hands. The staff is very helpful and will take their time to explain and answer any questions. In some reviews of the place they talk about the staff not being helpful, but in my 2 visits I had 0 problems. Let's talk about the food. Most of the orders come with charro beans and not with rice and beans like other places. Nothing wrong with that, specially since the beans are amazing!! A bit spicy for those who don't like spicy food, but full of flavor. I ordered the pastor tacos. The order comes with 4 tacos and charro beans. I believe you can get 5 tacos if you don't want any beans but the beans are totally worth it. They have the Mexican soda pop that we all love and if you don't like sodas or you chose not to drink them, not a problem they have aguas or just plain water. They do offer other meats like barbacoa, chicken, and asada, but pastor is one of the main reasons I come here to eat-and the beans!! The prices are regular for taco places around the area. For a house turned restaurant this place is good. One of the few places that don't give you rice and refried beans as a side. But charro beans, which are great!!! Beans with bacon, tomato, onion, cilantro stewing for a long while. It's the bomb. This comes with your plate order if it's the tacos and gorditas. They also have tortas a Mexican version of a philly steaks sandwich with Latino meats. It's a little family run business. Place is kinda small but clean. If you want take out there is a drive thru window. But if you want to enjoy your dine in experience enjoy the complementary tostadas and salsa. and if you do enjoy your experience like I did, ask for your repeat card. I can appreciate the family-run atmosphere and getting the kids involved in the business, but sometimes you should hire someone who knows what they're doing. Service is best described as slow, inattentive, and annoyed to be there. Disappointing at best. I LOVE spicy food (look at my reviews!) but the salsa is bland and so spicy it's nearly inedible. Anyone who knows me would be surprised to read that I just criticized a salsa for being too spicy. Food quality is generally good, not great. My wife and I split 4 tacos, 2 al pastor and 2 chicken. It came with the charro beans too. The tacos were delicious! We like about 30 min away and we will DEFINITELY be back! I got the torta pastor based on Eric W.'s review. I had never had pastor, the meat was delicious with a unique flavor. The bread was delicious and grilled, as a torta ought to be, with guacamole spread underneath. I like refried beans on my tortas, so that is the only thing missing for me. I also tried a barbacoa gordita which was great. The barbacoa was perfectly cooked moist yet crispy on the tips. Came by one day to try out what had been highly recommended by many others and definitely was excited to see what it was all about. Walked inside and the smell immediately was exciting. OMG, seriously, the smell is awesome. So anyway, I settled upon the gorditas sampler and the carnita Torta sandwich. Maybe a little bold to think that I could enjoy two different entrees in one experience, but don't judge me, I was hungry. Anyway, I got both, and it was a slight waiting time while it was all made freshly. Of course I ordered an orange Jarritos to accompany the meal, but upon arriving at work, it was the smell of the food that overwhelmed me. The gorditas were the first start. They were okay to say the least. The gorditas sampler is a gordita each of cheese, al pastor, and shredded beef. Each was delicious in there own way, but each was lacking in anything other than a bit of moisture in the flavor category. Otherwise, the gordita shells were relatively dry to be all honest. As for the torta, the flavor was awesome. The only downside was the texture. the bun was perfect and the meat was great. A smear of ideally, a couple of slices of avocado would have totally set this thing off, but short of the spicy sauce offered in accompaniment, there was only a textural element missing for this sandwich. All in all, I mean, it was okay, and the smell was awesome on walking in, but there were elements missing that would really set it over the top. All the tacos are delicious. Simple but flavorful. Exactly what you want from a small taqueria. Plenty of meat. Generous with onions and cilantro too. Both the green and red salsas have just the right amount of spice (medium to hot) and are great to top on the tacos. Guacamole and chips order was fresh and another generous portion size. I have been coming to San Luis at this specific location since I was very young with my family, by far the best tacos al pastor I've ever had! I'm a taco al pastor fanatic and will try them anywhere and everywhere! I have family from Mexico come and rave about the al pastor and how they don't have them that good in our small town. Definitely recommend this location specifically because I have tried them at other locations and it's not the same. I used to go here weekly when I lived in the area a few years ago. The torta al pastor is amazing, as are the tacos all pastor. A jarritos soda or mexican coke (different sugar & in a glass bottle) is always great. The chips are good, and the salsa's are very hot. Interestingly enough, I grew up down the street and NEVER bothered to swing by and try it. Coming from a mother who cooked everyday we never had the urge to go out and eat more Mexican food, it was the polar opposite in our household. When I moved out with my boyfriend he was very interested in trying all the momma pop shops in the area I grew up. Being that he is not of Mexican decent, he wanted to eat all the Mexican food he could get his hands on. Who can blame him? Mexican food is delicious!!! This restaurant was one that caught his eye. He fell in love with the pastor meat in Mexico and was rating this just as high as he did there. He loves the pastor tacos which are accompanied with borracho beans (drunken beans). He loves the red and green salsas that they give you with your chips. My favorite would be the asada torta. The bread is buttered and grilled to perfection. The meat may not be drowning in special sauce but it is grilled and seasoned to perfection loaded with favors. The torta has the traditional ingredients, mayo, jalapeños and slices of avocado. YUMMY in my tummy!! They do not come with beans but it's ok, you can add them for about $1.25. When I crave a torta there is no other place I'd rather go to. Waitresses don't speak Spanish but my if my boyfriend can go up there alone and order to go without my help, anyone can. Just read the menu, it's also in English . I wouldn't encourage you to go past 10pm on a weekend. Not saying the neighborhood is dangerous BUT that is the peak hour of business. It will be very very busy! read more
