I always use the drive thru but inside is your usual fast paced taqueria. Great kind of hidden find! There aren't many Mexican restaurants that are actually good, open for dinner, near downtown. They all mostly only serve breakfast and lunch so when I found that this spot is open until 10 on most nights i had to stop by. Classic Mexican restaurant vibes and food. The flautas were thick! Probably the thickest ones I have ever had. They also have a drive thru and an extensive menu with a lot items. Give it a try! I will definitely make this a regular place to visit now that I know its open later and nearby. Whether to pick up tacos or get fajitas its all there. Took the off beaten path away from the famous River Walk to find this wonderful gem several minutes outside of downtown. The homemade salsa is flavorful and spicy just the way I like it. Served with fresh corn and flour tortilla chips while waiting for the entrees. The Camarones a la Diabla was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Hands down, best I've had in a while. I could've done without the fries although they aren't bad. Do not overlook this place! A definite must try if you're looking for authentic Mexican food in the area. read more

So I went back and ate in two more time during my stay in San Antonio. The salsa but have just been off the first night. The salsa was so much better when I dined in. My daughter got the bean and cheese nachos and really enjoyed them. My friends son go the chicken burger. It was a huge grilled chicken sandwich. My daughter also got the barbacoa taco and they do not skimp on the meat. I also forgot to say the first night that the Borracho beans were amazing!! read more

Found this spot after a few attempts to other recommended places were packed or closing. The staff was so friendly even though we came in 20min before closing time. We ordered the beef fajita gorditas and they were decent. Seasoned well but came with a lot of onions (prefer a little less) and was juicy (made the bottom a little soggy if didn't eat fast). Rice and beans were very flavorful. Large servings. Restaurant was clean and spacious. Plenty of parking. Would come back to try breakfast or other dishes. read more

There is nothing healthy or el fresca about it. Barbacoa and menudo are a staple here. It's not in the classiest neighborhood but it's safe during daylight. Lol just joking. Park near the front door. The food is excellent and cheap. Taco Haven could learn something. You can't go wrong. Amazing food with large portions but the vieja working the register will ignore you for no reason

When I think, "authentic," this is not typically what I'm going for: the burrito was covered in sauce & cheese (I didn't think to ask when I ordered), carnitas aren't on the every day menu (I might have to come back one weekend before I leave town), and they mostly serve tacos, burritos, gorditas, y tortas. So I was worried when I sat down with the menu. However, I decided to order the #21 Jalisco burrito plate, which comes with rice & beans; for my meat filling, I chose picadillo. I also ordered a chili con queso to start, and a glass of sweet tea. Despite my dismay at the sauce and cheese covered burrito, the filling was excellent. The rice was fluffy and not overly seasoned, so it was definitely closer to my mi abuela's rice than most places. I'd forgotten to specify I wanted charro beans, so I ended up with refried beans for the first time in a few years, and they weren't terrible - they could use a little seasoning, but I'll handle that at home with the leftovers. Also, I would have preferred to see pico de Gallo, or at least diced onions, instead of cheese on the beans, but overall, not bad. The tea was good - sweet but not sickening. Their house salsa is perfect - decently spicy (more than mild but probably not quite medium) and flavorful; the chips were okay - not particularly great, but at least good enough that I ate a fair share. The chili con queso could have been spicier, but I'll add jalapeno at home; the flavor was excellent. The picadillo was fantastic. I have 2/3 of my burrito in my fridge at home, and it'll feed me again tomorrow. I'll likely scrape off the rest of the sauce from the top and just serve it with pico de gallo. Sadly, since the burrito was smothered, I couldn't actually decide if their tortillas were any good. :( Overall, a good and plentiful meal. I probably would have rated 3 stars, but the service was quite excellent, and the team members I saw and spoke to were friendly and full of smiles - so that garnered an extra star. read more

I stayed in the area for business and ate here probably 6 times over the course of 5 days and me and my coworkers absolutely loved it! You cannot match the price and value you get with any other place around! Just today I had 3 huge breakfast tacos for less than $3..... Total! I'm stuffed! Not only that, they make their own salsa, hot sauce. They have three types. Red, green and brown. I cannot decide which one I love more. I like to eat and Mexican food is one of my favorites, so I've had my fair share of sauces. These 3 hands down are the best! Service was great. A very short review. Good breakfast tacos. Really good salsa verde and salsa roja. The pieces and ends bacon they use in the bacon and egg tacos is far and away better than 99% of the taquerias in SA; more flesh than fat. House made flour tortillas, crappy institutional corn tortillas. They have never screwed up a drive-through order. Ever. And that's saying something when talking Spanglish with a well-weathered speaker/microphone. Don't go out of your way to grab a breakfast taco here.
