The rice literally taste like it is made in some ones grandmas house , so original and so authentic! The meat was super tender , not dry or too chewy , and our server Mariana was amazing . The food is great and reliable and the price is affordable. I've been to the higher dollar places and the food isn't as good and the portions are small. But not here!! Arrived and Host came around with the menus chewing on food while speaking to me and my wife, asked for a Lemonade lite ice and wife asked for tea lite ice, she went and got chips and salsa (hot), Ordered a #1 Carne Asada $13.99 but deleted the Pico de Gallo and to add more salad, which they didn't, wife ordered Crispy Tacos, hers came in quickly while mine took extra time which was ok. When arrived there was a corner piece missing and got the host's attention, she wanted to take my plate back and after I had waited I wasn't in the mood to wait another additional minutes so I told her no. BTW the Asada was chewy. She went back and announced to the cooks in the back loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear while laughing. I finished my Dinner and my spouse and I went up to the Register where I paid in cash but spoke to the main Host's about the reception I got including the chewing food while delivering and missing piece of Asada (guess the cooks are eating customers portion in the back), turned around and left a $2 tip, normally I leave $5.00 tip. I've visited that establishment occasionally and the last time the waiter ( which was there this time also, but moving tables noisily to clean) called my wife like hey Mama which was unacceptable to me. I typically get the barbacoa special from here. It is a great deal for under $20. One pound of barbacoa, 6 torts, cilantro, onion, pico & salsas. I add another 6 torts for my coworkers & myself. The menudo is hit & miss. Place is usually packed so I call in my order. Drive thru moves fairly quickly & plenty of parking. Prices are great for what you get here. Get some barbacoa! read more

Service was terrible we had to wave down our waitress multiple times even though it wasn't busy that night. Another thing they charged all my family a large family fee with different prices on each receipt practically scamming us out of more money even though there wasn't even a lot of us. This is my go-to restaurant when I want something fast and easy. It's close by and on my way to work. They have good deals on breakfast tacos in the morning. Monday- Friday you can get three of the same tacos for $1.99. The special is between the hours of 6am-11am. When my family and I plan road trips, we make it a point to stop here in the morning and we get ourselves tacos. If you are craving a quesadilla, I would recommend the quesadilla de asada. My sister introduced me to it and I loved it ever since! The thing that makes it the best, is having the tortilla extra crispy! If you want to play it safe, you can't go wrong with the cheese enchilada plate. They also have the combo with the crispy taco and it is divine! The caldo de res(beef) is amazing!!!! It is so delicious that some days they run out. It doesn't compare to abuela's caldo, but it's still on my top ten. We walked in for lunch and were told to find a seat. We found a clean table and sat down. Our waitress came up brought us a basket of chips and salsa (which was a little on the hot side) and took our drink orders, gave us some time to look over the menu and came to take our orders. When we received our orders, they were hot and fresh. The taste wasn't what I was hoping for. The food needed a little more salt and seasoning. The ground meat in the crispy taco I ordered was a little off tasting. Everyone else at our table was in agreement with my observation. We felt that the food was lacking some what on this visit. We have eaten breakfast here before, and it's good. The lunch not so much. Overall the service was good even though we weren't offered a refill on water or asked how we were doing. The ambiance is very nice. They play music. Very relaxing and enjoyable. So far the foods I have ordered have been pretty good. The waitress there are nice. You have one or two who are a bit clammy. I definitely would eat here again. The charro beans weren't quit cooked yet. I mentioned it to the cashier. She didn't offer to take the price off. I did tell her however that i was not going to pay for raw beans. So she immediately took it off. But didn't offer. So stand your ground if something is wrong with food. I eat there 3 to 4 times a week. I wish there corn tortillas were the white ones. I do not like the yellow ones. Aside from the fact that they break easily as your trying to make a taco. A local axiom here in SA is that any place that has Taqueria in the title will be very good. Whether it is Taqueria Vallarta, Arandas, Jalisco, Guadalajara, or any other province of our neighbors to the south, we can rest assured that the food will be great. The only problem is going often enough to sample all of the items on the extensive menus that specialize in Mexican dishes with a hint of Tex-Mex thrown in for good measure. For those of you from out of town the difference between Tex-Mex and Mexican is a flour tortilla rather than corn and twice as much food than you actually need to eat. On this occasion I went in the drive thru because I was pressed for time so I stuck to things I know and kept it simple. Besides when I pulled up to the window I was entertained by the rooster shanty town in the yard of the house next door. I'm glad I didn't order the chicken! Simple maybe but simply done, not at all? I wonder if these Taqueria places that started popping up twenty years ago started out by each hiring an old local Mexican grandmother to do the cooking or if they just used the knowledge of their food and added a little local flair. Either way they definitely know how to cook. The tortillas are soft, and fluffy and melt in your mouth good. If any of you aren't sure if you've actually had a homemade flour tortilla than you probably haven't. Add some bacony beans and sharp cheddar cheese and voila! For act 2 the Carne Guisada or loosely translated meat with gravy the cornerstone of every San Antonio male's culinary temple.. Now this dish sometimes gets served as chewy strips of beef with an over peppered, gelatinous gravy that can be as hard to stomach as it is to look at. (Just a quick cooking lesson- Cheap cuts of meat require three things- braising liquid, low heat, and time.) Taqueria Vallarta serves up thick chunks of fall apart tender beef in a ,heavy on the chili powder, gravy. My mom used to use hamburger meat, oh the horror! So if you happen to be in the Las Palmas area, perhaps you are visiting a passed relative in the San Fernando Cemetery or paying your Time Warner cable bill or maybe just picking up a pinata from Cupples road, check this place out because another Taqueria joint has proven its weight in caldo! Alright you guys how do I begin this the food is great but the service is terrible we went around 3 pm it was dead so you would think you wouldn't have to wait long but no the first waitress we had was fantastic but she had to leave due to her shift being done. And then this other lady delivered our food that was it we didn't see anybody after that towards the end of the meal someone gave us our bill and that's when we were able to ask for a refil and mind you there was 2 of us only one of us got a refill. So since we had a full cup we went to pay and asked for a to go cup and they said they didn't have any but yet we saw they had a lot by the drive thru. Went with a group of six for lunch. The fajita quesadilla plate was disgusting. Cold, drenched in grease and literally a soft taco of fat. We asked for crispy tripa tacos and got gooey soft tripas. Three people at our table got food first then 18 minutes later the other three people got food. The waitress was beyond dismissive of us which come to find out later they automatically charged a gratuity for the party of six (how nice for her). Great place to eat on the westside. The salsa that comes with the complimentary chips is picoso (hot) .. So beware .. Unless you like it that way of course. The chips were a little stale. I got the Fajita a la Plancha plate.. #15.. Fresh guacamole, fluffy rice and delicious borracho beans made this plate excellent. The fajitas were tasty along with home made tortillas. You can't go wrong. My friend ordered the Mojarra plate .. And loved it. Breakfast is served all day, and it even has a drive thru.
